The Problem With Having A Car In DayZ

Recommended Posts

So, after the 1.7.1 patch (with all the vehicles being reset after the clans hoarded them) I took it upon myself to gather some car parts and find a vehicle. I gathered 3 wheels, and a fuel tank. Luckily, that's just what I needed to repair Dawg Mk. II (Dawg Mk. I was a bus).

The problem is that because I really only trust one other person in-game, I'm too paranoid to go anywhere with it. Spaghetti was falling out of my pockets left and right in Zeleno for a refuel.

I almost never go anywhere with my car either. When I'm on, I just drive through the woods. And when I'm waiting for my friend to get geared before I pick him up this is what I'm doing.

Edit: Btw, I know people accuse you of hacking like crazy if you have a good gun and low zombie/player kills. If I'm requested by an authority figure, I was recording when I picked up that gun off somebodies dead body near a tent as I was driving along the map.

(Hope Image Code Works XD)

Obviously this is not a problem with the game. I'm just curious, does anyone else feel this way? After three weeks of playing in-game this has been my first and only good vehicle. I'm just too paranoid to do anything with it.

Anyone else feel this way? Why or why not I suppose.

BTW, here's a vid of me and a friend repairing the bus/me repairing my offroad.

I found a fully working tractor once. I drove it all over the map until it ran out of gas. Then I just ditched it in the woods. Wasn't a big deal.

I feel sorry for people in vehicles if I'm honest.

http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=10241

Heard them coming a mile off.

Lol, I would never raid with my vehicle. If anything I would use it to transport a friend and keep moving until he clears it out and gets what he came for. And the good thing about raiding tent camps is that they are almost always out of the way and left unattended :). But I would never park my car near one.

One time during 1.7, I was chasing a bus down the road near the beach. The bus turned offroad and looked like it got stuck. Zombies swarmed the bus and I ran up to it. The driver didn't get out even though the bus was stuck. After waiting for 5 minutes and trying to loot the bus, I shot the zombies around it. I had a full jerry can, so I was surprised to find that I could refuel the bus. I did so and the jerry can became empty.

In another couple of minutes, the bus disappeared in midair and my companion I was rolling with teleported right in front of me. I asked the bus driver, and he said that his fuel tank was mysteriously refilled while he was driving down the road. The zombies were actually dead and I was untouched despite firing on them.

I have a hunch that my connection to the server was desynced and it was only counting the client side interactions between me and the in game objects I saw - even though they weren't actually where I saw they were. That would mean that I could have sniped the bus driver and he would mysteriously die driving down the road probably a couple km away from me when the server received my inputs. I could probably run into cherno and kill everybody because zombies and survivors wouldn't move until the server resynced me.

TLDR: driving cars in DayZ is weird and rubberbandy and you can expect to die due to syncing BS rather than making any mistakes. Don't use cars until the voodoo is fixed.

TLDR

When i get a car i go batshit crazy.

i load it with all my gear, get tooled up, and go on a run, storm cherno, NW and stary in a bid to loose it.

i mean shit guys, after you get everything you need what is there left to do? Sit in the woods and survive for weeks, screw that, i'm here to play, not to rack up days alive.

I usually announce where im going and what i have gear wise to entice people to come and 'liberate' me of my ill gotten goods, its so much fun.

then its back to square one, Banditry and survival,.. lets face it, the game is getting a bit too easy now

The game before cars is getting easy. However, finding a car once everyone nabs them into their little camps is a bitch. Especially repairing it.

I've found lots of vehicles in DayZ, my opinion, don't get too attached.

Once I found a freshly spawned tractor that needed repair but was still functional, I drove it until it ran out of gas and parked it in the trees beside a road and left for a couple hours to get parts and more gas. I returned a few times with tires and crap to fix it up, but had a hard time finding a jerry can, so finally I did and came back(had only been about 2hrs since I first parked it) and it was gone. No biggy, but damn it was taken in under 2hrs in the middle of the night.

Another time I found someones Military Off-road truck in the woods, so I drove it up and down the coast line until I slammed it into a trash pile and popped a tire. It was a spectacular failure. It was literally just 200m outside of Cherno on the main highway so I ran down the road and spotted a survivor, tailed him and eventually made contact, no text or voice chat but he didn't kill me, so I lured him back to the truck and then logged off and went to bed, it was gone the next day.

I wish (and suggested it) that there were way more vehicles, but far less parts. I don't even bother trying to fix them anymore, it too much effort just to leave it for someone else to steal.

PS> Do you not have the beta installed? I see side chat in your screen shot.

Erm no, but your way sounds smart. My character was on Day 15, after a lot of stealth ninja gameplay and when I found a working bus I was so deliriously happy that I drove into Berezino honking the horn, crashed into a burnt out truck in the town square and got shot by a bandit for my troubles.

Yeah, I have the beta installed.

I used this guide

And put a small line of code in the properties in steam to launch it with overlay. I also replaced the arma2oa exe with the beta exe.

Seems to work fine. 1.7.1.1 has worked well for me.

Currently have about 14 land vehicles and 1 water vehicle piled up in a camp made up of about 8 active people. 7 ATVS, 1 UAZ, 1 Offroad, 1 Hippy Van, 1 Truck, 2 Tractors, 1 Motorcycle, and 1 Speed boat.

We get around a lot.

Fuckisthat XD. Well done. Screenshot perhaps? As long as we don't know the server I think you could safely give us one. But that's awesome. Is your camp near the coast? Because how is the boat near it if it wasn't. Isn't the obvious?

Why would you want 7 ATVs? They are buggy as hell and bounce all over the place. You can't freaking driving over bridges with the damn things.

I found one as well near balota. They're surprisingly good in the woods compared to my SUV XD

Well I guess it's better than having no atvs. If I kept finding them I'd probably keep taking them as well. Plus, in that quantity, they're not as important.

Damnn. That sucks. Luckily, if you want there's still plenty of vehicles lying around waiting to be fixed from the patch. My friend he saw like 3 SUVs like mine sitting at green mountain on various servers.

I just ask because it doesn't seem to be working, as it should be blocking your global & side chat channels. When I finally got the beta working the only text I see is direct chat or admin.

When your looking at the servers make sure it says "Required 1.60.93825" on the bottom right. Some servers say "Required 1.60" and still let you in with the update and beta so it's confusing. I kind of think they updated their DayZ without applying the beta. Thus they'll still have side chat enabled, but I don't know exactly.

Just thought I'd mention it since not having side chat is one of my favorite changes, it's so much more immersive without a bunch of "whos firing in cherno?" "Friendly?" taking up a quarter of my screen.

Yeah I recently found 3 vehicles including 2 off road jeep looking vehicles (both on different servers) at Green Mountain, both unrepaired. Now all I need is 4 tyres and an engine block and I'm back on the road :)

OP: I am or I should say, I was exactly the same. I found a fully repaired UAZ near the tents at Bere, I had it for a few days before it disappeared - I hid it really well so I am sure it was a reset that got rid of it. I used it for collecting friends from different locations but I never liked using it alone, I was super paranoid about losing it. It really felt like a burden at times as I couldn't just stroll into Stary etc. Glad I am not the only one.

I found a working motorcycle once by the side of the road with the lights on, so I guess some kind soul left it to be found. Hopped on and drove it into a junk pile in the first few feet, so the tires got messed up but it still drove. Drove it up the road and through a town, big train of zeds behind me but no big, I was outrunning them. Then ran into another pile of junk or something and messed the tires up more so the bike would only go like 10 kph, and the zombies all caught up to me. I tried jumping off and shooting my way out of it but there was like 40 of em and i got overrun.
