Christian Casali 1 Posted January 15, 2013 It would be cool if you had to scavenge for car keys before you can drive off in a car, the keys would be added to your tool belt. However, if you have not found a set of car keys yet, but have a toolbox, you can hot wire the vehicle to make a speedy getaway.
Guest Posted January 15, 2013 Finding vehicles is hard enoughRepairing them is another matterBut Car keys? That makes me want to avoid them even more. It's an good idea, just not for Dayz :)

Maybe for the Helis :P

broonskee 5 Posted January 15, 2013 i like it...could be the difference between coming back realising there's nothing there or...putting a bullet in the back of some ones head who's hotwiring your car.good stuff
tombom 28 Posted January 16, 2013 I mean finding any key is just dumb, honestly the key would most likely be in the car already and if any key could start any car it wouldnt make sense. Now if the original founder of the car has the only set of keys that makes more sense. That way only they could start the car immediately, if anyone wanted to take it they would have to hot wire it every time unless they steal the key too. DemonGroover 8836 Posted January 16, 2013 Could you imagine finding a set of car keys on a zombie and then having to go find the car?The way we enter and drive vehicles at the moment implies that the keys are already in the ignition or we have hotwired the car. guisho 258 Posted January 16, 2013 (edited) Maybe some cars can spawn inside the garages of the suburban houses so if you come across a zombie maybe it will have the keys of the car (and mostly well preserved) but if you go into the cities you can come across some crashed or broken cars and you need to hotwire them or something. Jonsse 69 Posted January 16, 2013 (edited) I fully disagree with this idea. It serves no purpose in regard to gameplay. The way cars spawn does not support such a mechanic. Just the fact that finding a car almost always requires a toolbox for repairs, it's feasible to assume that all running cars are hot wired to begin with. But building on the idea I would like to see a function in the game for disabling vehicles. For example; disable vehicle would give an item to your inventory and you would need that item or to find a similar item to re-enable the vehicle. It would serve gameplay by providing a means to "save" your vehicles while logged out. The vehicle would not disappear, but while you are logged out, it would require effort to fix it for anyone finding it, rather than just driving off with it. OrLoK 16186 Posted January 16, 2013 many military vehicles just have a push button to start.Civvie vehicles have car keys, I think it would add to the game.I like it. It'd mean less cars and more value to em.Cars do need to take more damage though especially to non vital areas.L
scoffield77@gmail.com 192 Posted January 16, 2013 Only if you can hot wire it too. If hot wiring comes along with this, Then I'd live it..

Might be a hassle but if you're really concerned about someone making off with your car then it would probably turn a lot of people off stealing it.

CarterJ 0 Posted January 17, 2013 I would love something to prevent my car from being taken while I'm offline! Maybe, though, cars can run without a key (Like hotwiring as everyone keeps suggesting) but if you happen to find a key, and proceed to use it on your car, then from that point the car will need your key to start it's engine. And maybe another new item, or combination option can allow you to make duplicates. For your buddies or something.
WiFiN 55 Posted January 17, 2013 I think keys should be in the game, but under following conditions:vehicles spawn randomly (locked and unlocked)keys can be found in the car, or on one of the zombies around if you are lucky enoughvehicles can be picklocked if you have toolbox+ (kind of "professional" toolbox that spawns rarely compared to common one) and a crowbarpicklocking takes decent amount of time and is loud (come on, we're not in GTA here)keys can be dublicated using workbench in service station by the road or that toolbox+
beastoverlord 574 Posted January 17, 2013 Or all cars could just be hotwired... It would make sense. When you find a new car you aren't going to get the key, you can just rip out the ignition and use the good old screwdriver.
