The sounds of dayz need serious work

I find the zombie noises extremely irritating, and don't talk to me about that coff when you are infected!

I think the stand alone, with all its polished goodness, should bring in much need development of the sounds.

Zombie sounds are okay, but distant gunshot sounds are poor, there are Arma2 addons that fix it, but SA should have it at the start.

I am sure this is on the agenda. Sounds probably aren't a priority right now.

Some private mods of DayZ have different sfx. Breaking Point is one such mod which scared the hell out of me with their new zombie sounds.

It really should be a priority. I really can't stress enough how important sound is.

Try watching a movie without it. Or changing a manual gear shift without it. Can you do those things without it? Yes, but that feedback with it, is that much better.

Even if it takes another year, sound is that important.

I would say that the most lacking thing in this game as far as sound are the obnoxious whale noises that you hear when you are walking around that function as the ambiance. I just end up silencing music because of it. I would just remove any "music" at all. Unless you get a radio, but that would be stupid to turn on, even if it did emit music... especially if it did so...

Agreed, i think sound is one of the most important things in this kind of game.. accurate sounds from actual things happening would be great nothing extra like the ghastly bins being rustled. i know no one is rustling those bins but it did make me look the first few times. that sound should not be in the game at all.. full stop!. pointless.

if a real player made the noise by hitting into the bins or even a zombie then please.. i have my reason to look!!

I should make a distinction.

The ambient sound is almost perfect. This is the only game (outside of Valve games) that I don't instantly turn the music off.

The ambient sound(s) builds the tension. The player/infected sounds punctuate the tension.

I am not saying that sounds aren't important, in fact they add to the game immensely. Just that i think that at this stage in the SA's development sound may be down the list of priorities.

Once the engine is stable and the overall architecture of DayZ is intact then things like sound can be improved upon. I am sure someone is on the case anyhow.

wonder why hes not just taking the dayz mod as the stand alone and update as tech gets better, i care not for single player story.. in this game your a single player in a story. try a survive thats the point, i believe anyway.

but yes, stable it out first . there is a massive list!

here one relating to this post .. Zonal Direct Comms around your player for example players are louder the closer they are and if there on your right etc..
