Was shock removed?

Recommended Posts

Hey, I started playing dayZ a few weeks ago, I've died so many times I've lost count, but something irks me.

Why do I never go into shock? The little white icon where if you log-out you'll be unconcious? I get mowed down dozens of times a day, but I've yet to see the little shock Icon appear, what gives? Was it removed from the game?

On a side note, what is the shock icon supposed to represent?

A few people think its like an electrical plug being unplugged or cut, with lightning around it, but I always thought it was supposed to be a neurotransmitter, and the little "sparks" were supposed to represent the brain is under stress. Just interested what your impression of it is.

Pictures for comparison:

Yeah, thats the chain icon.

Anyone gone into shock with the most up to date version?

You go in to shock if you take a lot of damage quickly. A few fast hits from zombies, taking falling damage or the classic closing a door on yourself will usually cause you to go in to shock.

I always thought the icon was supposed to be 2 objects colliding, but I actually have no idea. xD

Maybe you're just lucky? :S

I understand but it seems absurd to get this lucky for weeks! I closed doors on myself a few times ingame (Ususally to commit suicide, trapped with a broken leg, etc) and never had the shock icon appear, even if I take bullets to the chest.

Ironicly I just noticed if you squint, it looks like two guys brofisting eachother from above, and now I cannot unsee it, lol.

The closing door glitch seems to be gone in Arma itself as well, maybe Bohemia fixed it? I was in the Armory the other day closing doors on myself to see what would trigger it's killer instinct but nothing happened.

I can't remember the last time I went into shock; just an hour ago I took several shots from an M249 and survived with ~1000 blood. No shock though.

In combat Icon does the same job.

Correct me if I'm incorrect.

Technically Combat Mode doesn't last as long as shock did. (Shock could last up to 5 minutes)

In my honest opinion the best course of action would be to simply include both unless they cause complications if both are included at the same time. Just because abort is disabled doesn't mean someone couldn't unplug their computer, etc. Shock would punish you with a unconcious penalty upon login. Also as a poster said in the other thread, the combat icon can potentionally alert you of hidden enemies. Shock also could be triggered by zombies, something Combat Mode isn't triggered by.

I think having both shock and the combat timer together would work flawlessly. This way people who force disconnection will still be punished.

(Unless I'm completely wrong and shock is still enabled ingame.)
