Mark walls with a paint spray

Hi there.

My suggestion today's also something I've been thinking, while I was playing.

Just model something like this (pretty easy):

And make a plane polygone using alpha transparency, on which you put that texture (in black) :

So, if I paint a wall, here's the render:

Of course, here, it's way too bold and dark, I just took some random brush on google, but if this is using opacity, that could look great ingame!

I think the best way to do it is to make one IRL and scan it.

This could be done like the Team Fortress 2 kinda way, if that's the case I think it would good for a clan to mark territory.

Edit: You have to find a spray can before you can use it like tf2, just clarifying.

It would, if it gets made, like tf2 I hope. You pick an image in game from your pictures, documents, desktop etc. and hit f near a wall and it sprays on.

I would love this. I could see if you were able to free hand draw your own stuff that it could be abused, however if spray paint was rare enough it could work OK. If it were common, having a good set of spray textures to use would be nice (No bandits allowed, arrows, skull and crossbones, RIP *players name* etc) much like how it would work in a source engine game (without the custom sprays of pornography).

What if you had to create each symbol, in game, on the wall as you sprayed it, like make it as easy as using like....paint. But like, you'd actually take out the can and equip it and spray where you aimed. Idk, might be stupid idea (mine not yours, I like the spray can idea) But as far as immersion which everyone likes to babble about, I think it'd work quite nicely.

You have to understand. You can't add a function to a sandbox game and dictate how people are going to use it.

Clans will make clan-tags.

It's not a case of "What it's for" but " What you can do with it"

I hope you're not one of those, "People can do what they like, as long as it's not what I don't want them to do." types.

Personally, I think it would be far more DayZesque if players could each have custom image files (the way ArmA allows skins).

Pardon my lack of current technical wizzle (it's been a while), but IIRC *.png is compact and allows for transparency.

Little touches of customisation give players far more immersion in their character's situation. In my experience, anyway.

I dont' see why you'd mark buildings unless you're in a cooperative group, or building a reputation of some sort.

In both cases, easily recognizable tags would be the most useful.

How about markers or chalk for simple typed out text (in freehand looking font) or hobo code? It would be more subtle than a clan logo on a building and could be much more useful.

If CS taught me anything it's that this will only ever result in offensive images being sprayed onto walls.

That's why I said we would only have 1 symbol, if people can choose the symbol, that's going to ruin the game.

I really like the idea, There would have to be a sit stamp that can't be change of course, And it would have to de-spawn after a while, other wise the map would be littered with sprays after a while, and it would get confusing. I would think every building in Cherno would been painted.

Or maybe a 'remove paint' feature. You could use a knife to scrape off the paint
