DayZ standalone needs to be easier for solo play

Recommended Posts

Edit: I think many of you are confused by what I am suggesting here. tl;dr I want the current health system fixed, and I don't want any future mechanics that give you a unrealistic massive advantage than playing by yourself.

DayZ is way too hard in comparison to playing with someone else. The current blood system is completely broken. When you're playing alone, and you lose some blood, you have to get a hunting knife, matches, and wood. Now that you've got that you have to run around in the woods, find an animal, kill it and cook it's meat. When you have someone else to help you out, all you need is one bloodbag and three seconds of animation to use it on you. It takes 15 pieces of cooked meat, which is at least 2-3 large animals, to heal what one bloodbag can.

If I didn't have others to play with, I wouldn't have considered buying the standalone if this absurdly broken mechanic is carried on. Players simply shouldn't be punished this much for deciding to play alone. Matches and hunting knives need to be extremely common and each piece of cooked meat should heal at least 2000 blood. Or administering a blood transfusion needs to be equally as lengthy and cumbersome.

Right now, I'd love to play, but I'm low on blood and my friends are offline. I don't feel like running around a forest by myself vulnerable because of my low blood and lack of clear visibility looking for an animal.

It should be harder to survive alone than in a group. Its the apocalypse. You cant bloodbag yourself, and that is completely realistic in my view. If you injured yourself while alone you would be pretty much screwed without help.

TBH i think the DayZ SA will get harder, rather than easier.

Well, to be honest, you should be hunting for that meat before you need it. I always try to keep 2-3 cooked meat in my inventory or pack. If you are going to play solo you have to be a little more prepared at all times.

Stay away from zombies, move slower if you have to go near them, cooked meat already heals for more than I expected as it is (800 is awesome), always carry a couple of back up cans of food, spare meat. never ever pass up water bottles (I usually keep 2 at least) I think the best part of dayz is playing alone, the challenge to utilize your knowledge of the game alone is rewarding - I think the medical system is fine, go catch an infection in game and then hope to god you can find antibiotics, then you can come back and tell us the blood system is broken - I personally think rocket got the system just right, in fact, I think if he wanted to make it even more realistic, he'd take out blood bags altogether or at least make it so you'd have to be in a medical facility to use one.

I don't usually side with others wanting things to be incredibly difficult (dayz really isn't) but the medical system needs to be less forgiving than it already is.

Yes I agree it should be slightly harder by yourself but not drastically harder like how it currently is. Administering a "blood bag" in 3 seconds is completely unrealistic and way too easy of an alternative to eating meat.

I can imagine reviewers mentioning how hard it is to play by yourself and that could be a huge turn off to potential new players.

I think it´s harder to survive when you´re with someone else.

When I play alone, I can travel faster, loot better.

I also think, the bloodsystem is too easy.

Should be less bloodpacks to found and take 5 Minutes to give + the blood after eating something should START to regenerate very slowly (1 blood in 2 seconds) but drinking should also count

5 minutes for a bloodbag.. nah 20/30 sec are totally enough, while you are in combat you will regret those 5 mins :D

How about you have to find a cannula and a tube, both as rare as matches and hunting knife before you can use a blood bag. Also blood bags are much more rare, spawning like 2-3 instead of 5+ in medical boxes, and take 30 seconds of animation to administer.

[...] Should be less bloodpacks to found and take 5 Minutes to give [...]

Well, that sounds terrible. It's not about being 100% realistic, it should feel balanced and still bother you.

I totally get OP's point, but I actually like it the way it is now. Playing alone should be harder than playing in a group, and I appreciate that.

Want a game to be easier for you? Go play WarZ. DayZ is meant to rape you in the face if you're ignorant about your survival. If you want to play alone you have to carry everything on your own - morphine, food, ammo, weapons. Bloodbag is a situational tool - want to heal up quickly? Then go find yourself a team or risk your life by asking for help from a stranger. DayZ is all about the choices you make. If you're not ready for that - find some place safe.

I know most of us can easily dispatch a horde of zeds with just an axe and good planning.

Instead of saying the blood system sucks, I'd suggest the following:

1. Don't get hit by zombies

2. Be more aware of other players

3. Learn to aim better

Hello there

The mod needs alot of streamlining, but that should be part and parcel of the mod.

Making the game easier? I think not. Making things like transfusions more complex? Definitely.

Have you ever tried to find a vein? Even nurses have a hard time sometimes and that's in a nice safe hospital. (personal experience :( )

I think the devs have most likely thought all about issues such as this and probably have addressed em. Lets wait and see.

oooo btw I almost exclusively play solo and as long as we are not penalised for that then I'll be happy.

Most things can't be done by one person alone...how long do you guys need to learn that fact? That's why people tend to group up to make things easier or else we wouldn't have gotten this far in history.

You are actually punishing yourself by playing solo ergo the problem lies with you.

If the game was easier for solo players, friendly interaction would be uneccessary. Since Blood Bags are required to be given from another it gives reliance on people. If It were to change the way DayZ as a whole would change. People would have less reason to form groups. Human Interaction would almost become pointless. When you are a one man tank it isn't very realistic for a zombie apocalypse. Little changes in the game can make huge impacts to the game as a whole.

If you dont "feel" like making an effort to survive might i suggest taking a wound, laying down and bleeding to death. You will "feel" better in no time. :)

Personally from my Day Z experience(Which would be about 1 week total, haven't been able to play because my damn laptop) I have survived on my own quite fine. I don't find anything hard to do now. At first I didn't even want to go near a town. I think that the medical system is fine. I haven't lost too much blood from the zombie encounters. I can sneak into towns fairly well (Got a ton of cool loot from a supermarket). And really Day Z isn't all that hard once you grasp the basics. Here are some tips for me to you if you intend on surviving alone.

1. Always go prone when you enter towns. This makes it so you won't alert the walkers. (I did this when I was in Chernogorsk and I went to a supermarket to get my first gun.)

2. Always check barns. They usually have some decent loot.

3. Carry as much medical supplies as possible. And carry tons of food if you want to slowly regan blood.

4. If you at a point where you need a blood bag (<2000 blood) then you should try seek another player. At <2000 blood level, you could die at the snap of a finger

It is absolutely absurd to assume that the entire basis of DayZ and social interactions would completely change if they were to balance the health system. It is NOT good at all that players need such an extreme reliance to strangers or their friends.

I am sick of people speaking for me and saying that I want to make the game easier or make yourself a one man tank. I am putting this in big letters so that your narrow attention span can keep up. NOWHERE have I said I want the game to be easier as a whole, all I am suggesting here is to balance the extremely broken health system which renders solo play extremely difficult in comparison to playing with at least one other person. All I see so far is people telling me I need to aim better (smh) or kill my player or go play war Z (smh x2) because nobody can tell me that spending 60+ minutes finding tools needed to cook meat and finding 2-3 large animals, yet spending 1 minute finding a hospital and healing yourself instantly, isn't broken without sounding like an idiot.

Hello there

Dont make it easier for solo play, just dont penalise those who choose to do so.

Yes, IRL an ingame it should be easier to survive as a group. As long as those of us who choose to solo have a chance then all is good. I dont want it easier, I just want a fair crack of the whip.
