My First Day (and night)

Recommended Posts

It started out exactly how I had imagined it in my head: the constant swooshing of the surf against my back, my HUD popping up, and me raising a makarov. The white text beeped and clinked as I read off Elektrozavodsk. :) I had already spent about a week reading stories on the forum and memorizing the wiki, and I was fairly surprised to see that I had, my thinking at the time, such a fantastic spawn! I quickly assesed my gear: one bandage that I thought I would never need, a flashlight that I had heard was a death sentence, one makarov mag, and the ever precious staple food of Dayz, a can of beans. I crouched down and assumed the hunchback form that I had heard improves survivability chances, and set out straight forward. I was surprised and a little scared when I pressed m to check my position and saw a daunting matte black. :P

Determined to survive and obtain better gear, I crouch-ran over to a little gas station, where I went inside and found a hatchet! I was ecstatic at this point because I had heard the hatchet was one of the best weapons from multiple sources. Sweet jesus had I hit the jackpot! I had no idea how to wield a hatchet, or a flashlight for that matter, and i stumbled blindly with the inventory menu for 4 minutes. Then I heard the dinky pop-pop-pop of makarov rounds being fired torwards me, cracking and breaking the window that i was crouched against. :o I was scared out of my mind and had no idea what to do or how to react, when my assailant ran up to me and fired the rest of the magazine point blank, but still missing me. I finally got my act together and tried to mimic the youtube videos I had seen, swinging my field of vision around and firing off 3 rounds from my makarov at his center mass. This was when I saw that my assailant had no gear, was wearing a coyote backpack, and was just as freshspawn as I was. He quickly fired off 2 shouts over direct voIP that he had made a mistake and to stop shooting. Just as fast, I asked him why he had shot me and that "If you shoot at someone you will get shot back!". He apologized and said that he wouldn't shoot me if I didn't shoot him anymore. I agreed and he said that he was going to run away and to not shoot him.

After my first, and last firefight for quite a while, I noticed that I was bleeding profusely and quickly bandaged myself. I ran down the railroad tracks, shedding my past cautious-ness for the fast life. It took me 3 minutes to get into Elektro, and in that time I had become the pied piper of zombies. I crawled under a gap between a stone wall and the ground to try to get away from the zombies, and then the instant I stood back up, I got shot with a lee enfield in the legs. I was hopelessly lost, with low blood, broken legs and a broken spirit. :( It soon became night, and I was crawling around the streets of Elektro getting closer and closer to death as I painted the sidewalks red as I dragged myself across them. Eventually I saw a survivor run into a building, and I thought he might have morphine and help me. Once I got inside, I saw his back turned as he looted a dead body. I asked quietly over direct chat if he could help me, and he whirled around and opened into my face with a winchester slug. I saw him as he fired 2 more rounds into my dead body, and then my first life in DayZ was over.

I guess what I learned is that reading guides and watching videos can never teach you as much as experiencing it for yourself. Also that survivors are not your friends in almost all cases.

I guess you were on a private server to spawn with a Makarov, unless this a flashback to the good old days of DayZ.

Best way to get broken in is to have your legs broken

Yes, I found that out after another time with my legs broken. Someone had said they would fetch some morphine for me from the hospital while I waited in an archway. 1 hour later they came back and killed me with their friends.

Other survivors definitely ain't your friend. Unless its me. I'm lovely.

We could use a few more of your types, I think.

Also just had my experience with a gang of Bean Bandits. Not fun people to meet in person.

Nice story.

Just one thing to note. You said that you only spawned with one magazine. You have to realize that the guy at the gas station probably only stopped shooting and became friendly because he ran out of bullets. I'm playing as the most friendly friendlies out there, but if someone tries to kill me first, we can no longer be friends.

The cities are nooby death trap pvp places..but handy for acquiring loot quick. Then gtfo and begin the trek to the upper regions of the map...enjoy the first journeys , they are the best.

My first life in DayZ was back in August. I spawned in Komoravo, then went east. While I was going east, I saw a huge crate full of shit. I took some stuff, then all of a sudden a heli landed right by me. I was scared shitless, and the people in the heli told me to get in. I did, and they took me to(what I think was) the NW. They gave me a ghillie suit and stuff, and told me to stay where the chopper is. Sooooo, was a huge n00b, and I took their heli. I took off, then died shortly after. Should've done that helicopter training...

Ahhh to be a Noob again. Seeing the gradieur and majesty of the NW Airfield for the first time. The pair of NV goggles you try on. Finally finding that first M4, DMR or M249 SAW and feeling like a man (or woman if that's how you spawned)

I can completely feel what you've meant, OP. I had the same learning in the beginning. I tried to be the nice guy. But after several slugs, bullets, arrows and axes buried into my face I learned to be cautious. VERY cautious! If I see a survivor, I first watch the guy. I will not come out and talk to him. And if I think he will not attack, I try my luck. But in general the people are attacking on sight - even if they have a double-barrel and I have an automatic rifle.

So I became a bandit after a while. If someone has a gun bigger than a makarov I kill them instantly. And, just a last tipp, stay always cautious EVEN if the guy in front of you says that he is friendly. Do not trust anyone. (Sounds hard and sad, but it will help you^^)

On the other hand: As soon as you find your first fav weapon (a sniper? Or a huge machinegun) or your first Ghillie suit - it is a huge amount of fun (as well as the fun is increasing, your paranoic level increases too ;) ). I wish you a lot of fun in DayZ! And something else very important: Do NOT get attached to your gear.
