What if you only had one life in DayZ.

Recommended Posts

I'd be dead and wouldn't be able to play the game right now :( It's a cool idea in theory, but considering how shitty arsed I become even just when I find decent gear, if I knew I only had one life, I'd be so scared to move I'd probs just camp in a tree :D

Someone suggested punishing banditry with longer hours before being able to play. That's wrong. Players pick and choose their playstyle, I wouldn't play if offline hours were extended for banditry. Not to mention that some bandits don't mean to be, they end up getting attacked by survivors, shoot them, and lo and behold they're in a shemagh.

I tripped on a ladder on my first playthrough, I don't want to be out of the game for X hours waiting to respawn to get a glitchy death again.

As for the solution, how about the whole game be on a machine and you put in 1 quarter per respawn? Totally original idea!

How much would this 'machine' cost? :D Arcade machines cost a fortune!

Well that was what the game was originally about, before you came along with your hacks and your 24/7 daylight 5000+ vehicles spawn with a nuke servers.

To answer your question, we got shot in the face over beans a lot, but not all the time.

Well calling it a terrible idea and saying make it a "semi intelligent" thread sure did make it sound like you didn't know it was hypothetical. In no way do I mean to start a fight but I would choose my words more wisely next time.

I said I understand that this is a 'what if' thread. Or did you choose not to read that part? Id choose to read more wisely next time.

Even hypothetical ideas can be bad, trust me ive come up with tons of bad ideas. The OP asked for a discussion so I was discussing his hypothetical idea (until you started name calling) and why it just wouldnt work even in a hypothetical world. Im sorry you took it personally, but thats a you problem.

Sorry for the hijack (unintended), you can have your hypothetical thread back.

To add to this: make the dying/bleeding process slower, and an ability to call the "police" and medics. And put out. Message to the server who shot/killed you, then have that player subtley marked, because obviously we cant recognize faces in game as we would in rl

Let's stop throwing rocks, and perhaps rephrase the question a little.

Who'd sign up for a single life, e.g. week-long tournament on a dayz map? I certainly would,

Various kudos categories can be imagined; Most hours survived in game, least hours, most kills, most blood bags given etc.

Endless permutations (holy shit, it could almost be a sandbox game), no squads, no clans, small squads, or just free play.

Just my thoughts,

AC

Or until the last man is standing with the tournament running on set hours through the week, Kind of sounds awesome actually!

You guys ever watch the show Caprica? Concept reminds me of New Cap CIty. If I only had one life, I'd be dead on the shore probably.

I actually had a similar thought about a tournament style game back in the day.

http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/22280-an-actual-in-game-day-z/

Everyone spawns at the same time, has one life, no respawning, no new players can enter once the game begins, and critically ALL loot spawns ONCE and once only.

How long before everyone is carrying a hatchet and killing for the last box of matches? How long would the game last? Would bandits exist as they do now, knowing that bullets are in short supply? Would everyone make a mad dash to the NW airfield? Would people be more likely to join up as resources run out?

Granted this type of gameplay couldnt be done all the time but i think it would make an interesting experiment.

A gamemode like that implies that the winning condition is being the last man standing. Sounds like the hunger games. :D

I prefer to say it sounds like Battle Royale, not the new age rip off.

I'd call the gamemode: BattleEye Royale.

the idea for it to be one death and kicked like a minecraft hardcore map sounds a bit over the top. if you really want to experience the 1 life thing literally imagine it like i do, count the hours, how much items you get and how long your able to control a area. once thats over you repeat and try to beat your record unless hackers come on to spawn a car and rush at you...

overall, it sounds like a good idea but should be implemented by the player not the server.

also the one week tournament play would be a good idea but what about a 1 day tournament where you literally have to come into the server at 12:00am and stay on one straight day. if its not a DM you estimate how much "money" they made in terms of value of anything they were able to hoard including where ever they placed their hoarded items such as a big industrial house or a stockade of tents in the woods. if its a DM you have that one day to kill whoever else is on the map. once there are 4 hours left of the day to insure a winner, everyone must go to the smallest town on the map and pit war against each other with the weapons they found.

before anyone comments on my tournament idea please go make a different thread and somehow invite the people already talking about it to go on to & talk about their ideas.. it was a pain in the but to read 2/3 different conversations without being overwhelmed to comment on another idea different than the OP

Honestly I think this is where you have crossed the line of realism. I simply wouldn't find it fun, I'd be too scared to do anything.

Think about the topic.

so very many games today are very unreal - even the point systems say die all you want.

Deaths don't count in most game - kills do.

This is the whole reason we have the 'run-n-guns'.

I think a 'death timer' would be great, a hour, two hours maybe twenty-four hours.

DayZ should be more about the survivor, and, less about killing other players.

Have you ever 'thought' about working together.

At least that is my vision of DayZ.

Flame me all you want 'Player Death in DayZ' should mean more, more 'cost' to the player.

I also think Bandits should HAVE to wear their 'Bandit skins' till their numbers go up out of the bandit zone.

I would also like to see a bounty system where 'friendly' players are rewarded for killing Bandits, be it food, drink, guns or ammo.

Make the Killers PAY ................

You wanta be a killer, pay the price.

Really think about it - In a DayZ world if the killers are not stopped, sooner or later there will be no one left - Think.......

I'd find the idea of a single life game (maybe like some of you said with a player lockout for a period of time after you died) quite interesting IF:

- the game engine had no glitches where you could die coz of a bag of silly (breaking your leg by climbing latters, running over rocks, stupid teleporter zombies and a melee/animation system that honestly just sucks, you name the rest of those bugs)

- you had a real shipload of options to make your avatar look quite unique (so you can identify already made friends)

- the overall reception of your surrounding environment was better (like hearing better where gunshots/noises/footsteps come from, having a more natural view on your environment and not the 90° of the first person view)

- (and this is my very personla taste) Romero style zombies, let there be masses, but don't put in those 28 days/weeks later guys that even can zig-zag you in a speed that you rather die coz of vertigo than of the attackers themselves

But honestly: even without the fear of losing your one and only life, the game (mod) as is pretty scary to me sometimes... way more scary than (e.g.) the deadspace series on hardcore mode. So I'm fine with how the gameplay is (apart from the glitches). I'd still give a 1 life game a shot... if it wouldn't cost as much as a full title...

Some of these replies are really interesting i like to hear what you guys are thinking!

Again this is just a theoretical fun discussion just imagine all the bug's, glitches had already been delt with and the game was running smooth :)

Actually I think this has indeed some potential.

Think of Diablo ... you have normal game and hardcore mode.

Perhaps we can have something similar in DayZ?

For instance the DayZ Team sponsors ~ 5 servers running DayZ Hardcore on a seperated hive.

(on expert settings of course! :) )

Players have only one life on these servers. If you die you have to wait till the next round

starts beginning of each month. It is not a complete reset - players who have survived that

long will still exist. But once a month there will be this big influx of new players.

DayZ team would monitor the activity on the hardcore servers and close down some of them

over the month - forcing people to play on full servers.

An option of buying a new life for 3 to 5 bucks could be added, but I am not sure I'd like that.

Could be an alternate payment concept though.

The implications for gameplay would be amazing :) It would allow for long-term motivation among

DayZ veterans, giving us the same feeling again of the early DayZ days.

It would also be a great PR for DayZ!

What do you think?

I'm all for death=being kicked off the SA hive for 12 hours. This way everyday you come on and play you will have that feeling of survive is utmost importance.Dead and kicked off and you will have to sleep off the tears. Then when you log back in the next day you will be running and ducking for cover from the moment you spawn.;)Its freaking harsh but will just add to the games immersion greatly.if you die and can't hack being away then go play on a private server till next day!!!!

If people had to buy a new key or got kicked off the game for X amount of hours after each death the game would be dead in a week. Imagine getting killed, waiting for the time limit to respawn and then getting sniped by some douche bag 5 minutes after you spawn.
