L85 Should it stay or go

I think the L85 should be removed.

Thermal sights are ridiculously overpowered in this game. Let all players live in the same fear, regardless of their guns.

It should be in the standalone, but only if you fix duping and make it super rare. The only problem with it right now is that they're everywhere due to hacking/duping.

Nerf it like they did in Namalsk? I understand that a casual gamer who wants the weapon hes found in the first 20 minutes of playing to be the king of all guns would want anything that took time to attain and was more effective to be removed, but for those who play for quite some time, who dedicate time to finding end game quality gear, and have attained knowledge to properly find gear and survive(Infected and Bandits/Survivors), weapons such as these act as a reward for their experience, its not like they respawn with this gear when they are killed, if a fresh spawn can get the jump on one of the more experienced players and is able to kill them and take the gear they had, they no doubt have earned it through a differnet means and that reward and power is now in their hands.

The best part is, when the L85, AS50, M107, DMR and its variants, the LMG's, NVG, FNFAL's, CZ550, hell anything with a scope is removed due to being "unrealistic" or "overpowered", those players who complained about them will have already quit due to it becoming "boring" or "lacking endgame", even should it be in the stand alone.

The more dedicated players should not be robbed of the fruits of their labors, regardless of what those scripting clowns do.

It was removed because the thermal was overpowered, especially when combined with sniper rifles, replacing it with a thermal rangefinder would be ridiculous.

Be less crap at spotting maybe? Or cut and run instead of trying to find him. You can't win 'em all.

Certain camouflage only works in certain terrain. A thermal scope is no comparison in terms of "overpowered"ness.

Leave it out, it was game breaking in the right hands and to be perfectly honest I got bored of how easy it was to spot and kill unwary people (wheres the challenge of you can see them so easily), if it must remain then swap it out with one that has a normal scope - ACOG or SUSAT x4.

My opinion - it better stay removed. It's already a big problem in DayZ to camouflage yourself in a grass or near a tree even in a ghillie suit because you become visible on some distance. A player with an AWS scope becomes a super-eye, no one can argue with that.

But I owned L85A AWS, lost it because of bad luck - been shot in a woods while running =) AWS is too big advantage.

Replace the Thermal vision variant. Leave L85 itself ingame with different optics (SUSAT would be awesome!).

As long as there is item dumping, there should be no thermal optics and even weapons like AS50 and M107.

EDIT: And if Thermal stays, players wearing Ghillie should be much less visible.

If you're going by ArmA 2, the "Harvest Red" campaign should have bugger-all to do with DayZ, besides geographical similarities.

If, when the story unfolds, the lore says aid choppers were sent from Britain, then that's gospel, as far as we're concerned.

the same could be said for the US weapons but as of now we have no plot so neither of us can speak, IMO take out the thermal sight L85 but replace it with another L85 variant problem solved. Edited December 2, 2012 by Rollo
