Morphine = Unrealistic

Recommended Posts

So, we all know Morphine is unrealistic and someone with a broken leg shouldn't recover from some drugs. But I think if a player get shot in the leg he will be forced to crawl until given morphine "like currently", but he will walk/run %20 slower with a %15 chance of tripping/passing out per 1km ran/walked.

This is a bit more realistic without us having to go through physical therapy for three months in a video game.

Nope. The mod is too easy as it is.

Yes, and how would this make it easier? It would make it more difficult/realistic.

Even though I agree that it's unrealistic that you can fix a broken leg with a little stick of morphine, it's not "more realistic" that you can walk or crawl with a broken leg. (When shot or otherwise.)

Being able to walk and/or crouch gives you more mobility, more travel-speed, and better chance in combat. So there's your answer.

Passing out because someone shot you in the leg though you took morphine? That's unrealistic.

If you want it to be realistic then people would be crawling for a month after breaking their legs (or even longer).

...when u are hurt in the leg, like broken bone players should crawl around at least for 3 weeks, needing like every day morphine, antibiotics, fresh bandages and a nice nurse to comfort me ;)

Players should be passing out all over the place anyway, simply because they're all off their tits on Morphine and Epinephrine 24/7.

And eating 24 Paracetamol because you got punched in the face? Everyone should be Jaundice as fuck!

If you want it to be realistic, then you wouldn't last more than a couple of days after a bullet in your leg before septicaemia causes you to burn up in fever and die in a curled up ball on the ground.

Needs antibiotics + duct-tape + golf club. Broken leg = sorted!

Still wouldn't be walking on it though. ^_^

Idk what all the bambies are doing, but I don't need morphine every hour. Neither I've ever needed Ephinephrine though I sometimes play with friends.

Also antibiotics are ways to rare. Irl every clinic has more antibiotics than morphine, ephinephrin or anything like that. It's just because you never need it in DayZ (almost...).

Dayz needs harsher injury effects IMO.When below 3K you should be moaning/limping etc but food over time should fix you up.When at 1K you should fall down in pain and the only cure being a blood transfusion.

Hopefully the medical overhaul Rocket is doing for standalone will separate "pain", "crippled limbs" and "blood loss" properly and more authentically than is usually expected from computer games.

The days of "health packs" insta-healing should be nothing but a fond memory.

When you're crawling around Chernarus, broken, battered and bleeding out, you'll remember when you could just morphine your leg better and get blood-bagged to 100% and it'll bring a tear to your eye.

We can only hope...

I always thought that morphine represented both the anaesthesia and the act of straighten out the bone and splint it, which the anaesthesia enables.

Great ideas and from what I gather Rocket is making medical even better.BUT what the game really needs to add in is the "getting wounded actually causing your fighting skills to plummet" part of Arma2.

"last night I stumble upon a bandit all alone and at dusk.I could barely make him out but I did see his headwrap outline. He is most likely fully geared since he is running around firing and killing infected when I cant even run without bumping into fences and the like.I hate bandits so I target him and fire.He drops and started to move real fast so I kept trying to hit him.2 shots more and he gets to a kneel spots me and just lays waste to me."Again BUT I hit him and he went down in pain.....or so he should have but instead he fights on with 3K blood as if nothing is wrong with him.I should of had the advantage but Dayz doesn't allow this realistic aspect. ;( Sorry, just needed to vent that out.

I think painkillers should work as a temporary cure for a broken leg, you could limp for 10 minutes before falling over again. Then, morphine would fix a broken leg, but you would have to limp for 10 minutes. Making it a little bit more realistic, but still not too much.

I wanna see you limp 10 minutes with a broken leg after taking regular painkillers.

Even with morphine, would be agony to walk with a broken leg... If you take enough morphine to block out the pain, you wont be in walking condition?

Playing realistic with medical issues is dangerous at best. Broken legs take months, Yes the realism of morphine in game is over simple but I can't imagine players crawling around for any longer than a medical application of morphine. Would you like to play a game where you are constantly crawling around?

Lets hope the splinter aspect with limited movement comes into play. This way you can still move but at the expense of speed and needing meds on a more constant basis

Yep, players have to actually fear to get wounded in a time where you can't just go to a hospital and wait to get some medical treatment because there is NONE!!!!!! That's one of the things what makes apocalypses are so feared and dangerous because there is no more system that can help you. Ergo people work with eachother instead of killing eachother for just beeing present or more the weapon they are holding in their hands. The fear of injury actually let's opponents hold back in most cases. Not every scene ends like in the hollywood apocalypse movies f.e. "The Book of Eli".

Okay, have your way, let's forget the a little bit worse than now thing and do the real-life scenario. I didn't say I would walk with a broken leg after taking painkillers, but I really think everyone would commit suicide rather than crawl for 2 months in DayZ. Let's be serious for a second.

Did literally nobody in this thread see that Rocket explicitly said the Medical System is being completely redone?

Yes we have, but he might change it to something worse. So we're giving our input to the community to possibly help with the decision on what to do.

I don't believe he said "I think we will." I'm pretty sure he said, "It IS being completely revised."

Fair enough. I just got off work, kind of edgy. My bad.

I think these are stupid ideas. Why? Because I don't want to be limping around for an hour in agony, when I could have fun for an hour dodging zeds and hunting people instead. I suspect harsher wounds etc. will only make players suicide more often. Yeah, yeah, I get that it's about how to survive and all, but seriously.

OK, I'll give it one positive argument... It could maybe make team play more interesting, or make people seek other players more often to ask for help. But given the way other players are generally treated in this game, I wouldn't bet on it becoming a trend. Aaand we're back at suicide again. Thus the point of having more severe wounds would be only for the select few sadomasochists of the bunch.

I say nay.

As much sense and logic that DayZ has, it does seem illogical for morphine to heal a broken leg (coming from a guy who hardly uses logic, YEP). Maybe a splint would be nice, and morphine would be used to quicken and lessen the risk of worsening the pain.

I remember a time where morphine was a god send, but now it's become more common than that tin can over there.

To prevent suiciding there should be something more than just the items you carry, something to make the char alone valueable.

how about the ability to use your shotty/rifle as a crutch?

reduce the characters speed and unable to use your weapon as your using it as a crutch

a shot of morphine heals the leg like it does now

always thought that a splint should be used as well as morphine, seems to make more sense

would be abit brutal though having to find 2 things instead of just 1 thing to patch up your legs
