I use a fine thing called DayZ Commander. I am sure there is a better third-party server list around her somewhere, but this is what I prefer. In it, a magical called filters allow me to choose what map, server population, and even server settings I wish to have. I also tend to read the names of servers to be sure whether or not it has a sudden influx of vehicles. Quite a fine invention, it is... -

Update on servers: Chernarus is running well, currently has: - A customised map to make some towns more useful + extra military camps etc (Still a work in progress so expect more)\ - A group of players who have found a heli offering a medical evac service - Extra vehicles with many new spawn points - Up to date script protection + very active admin scouring the logs - Regular restarts every 6 hours - Timezone is GMT + 4 (for aussies gets dark around 11:30pm EST) - Occasional events e.g. the bike race tour de chernarus - Working on other features e.g. exporting your total life stats to a static webpage Panthera Server: - Day 24/7 - Custom loadout coming soon so you can hit the ground fighting - Vehicle count to be increased - Up to date script restriction - 6 hourly restarts Namalsk Server: - Still to come We will be trialing a whitelist RMOD server soon too, so if anyone is keen to get on that you can either PM us or ask on the forums. I started playing on this private server a few weeks ago. It seemed like a good server and I hoped to find one where people play fair. The main reason to play on a private server was that there are less hackers. When I joined I received a mail from the admin with the rules: "Hey added you, enjoy, just so you know, we check the logs and any teleporting or vehicle creating will result in a ban. There are no rules, except no scripting/hacking :) MinDBlanK" All seemed well and I started playing. Although it was hard to find vehicles that sometimes is the case in Dayz and I just started walking, walking, walking and walking for one. After a while a friend of mine joined the server as well. 2 Days ago we finally found a helicopter after weeks of playing and searching. We went for a ride and while cruising we were in a lot of luck and found a second helicopter in a camp with some tents, a Ural and another car. (There are 2 heli's in game that belong to the 2 biggest clans that also have the admins in them). We took a weapon and then left with the second helicopter as well because this was a good opportunity to search for some cars with 2 heli's. There should be 80 vehicles in the server but we only found 6. We were really hoping to find the others. Because time was cut short we had to place the heli's off map with plans to look for a good place to hide them near our camp on the map. Wasn't anything in the rules that that was illegal, although I don't think it's entirely fair of us either. Anyway we placed them there and went looking for a decent place to hide em. When we logged on today our heli's were gone. Weird, because they were placed off map (2km and 4km out) and noone finds em that quick. I thought it might be a glitch bad server restart so I walked back to the map and started some runs for loot. After a while one of the admins came online and then another player from the second clan came online as well. They started talking about their helicopters and how they are safe again because they TELEPORTED them back to their new camps. Camps that were replaced somewhere on the map since the helicopters were taken by us. I told em I thought that was cheating, but according to them it wasn't because they were placed off the map by a hacker. Well, we're not hackers and I told them the heli's were taken by us. They told me that it was legit what they did because I shouldn't have placed them off map. I told them that even if we place the heli off map, it's still not ok to transfer them back to your own camp. You should at least reset them if you play fair. Besides, why does an admin ASSUME the heli's have been stolen by hackers and then check the locations of the vehicles, just because both of the heli's went missing the same day? They said that if the heli's had been on map they wouldn't have teleported them. So it's ok to check the locations of all the vehicles if yours are taken and you happen to be an admin? That aint right. If the heli's are in a place you don't like, then you just teleport everything back to your new sites. If you think a server is hacked, there isn't even a reason to relocate your camp but they did. They saw that their vehicles were taken and when they confirmed that no one from either clan took them they checked where they were and concluded from the location that they were hacked and took them for themselves again. That isn´t fair to all the players in the server that aren´t in the admin clans. There is no reason to check for vehicle locations without any proof that the server is hacked and even if they are off map, they respawn after 7 days. Taking them for yourself isn´t fair. When I talked to them they were honest about it but then the main admin came online and immediately started cursing about how we shouldn't whine about our stuff and should just move on to another server if we didn't like what they did. It's a private server and they can do whatever they want to, but be warned that they don't play fair and do one of the worst kinds of admin abuse. As soon as their stuff is taken and they don't know by whom, they just take back what is missing by scripting/hacking/cheating and get abusive when confronted about it. Of all of this I have proof by screencaptures and I've added the one of them talking about teleporting the heli's. Be warned people, if you want to play a fair game of Dayz, then don´t join this server! They don't play fair unless you are in one of their clans. In the picture the admin Brave says: "Yeah, teleported it to our camp. Move to go out on fuel run to get enough gas to get it back to you." It's from the brave clan to the bandityeah clan.

You just cannot seem to settle in and have fun. This is where me and few friends decided to all chip and and rent a private hive, where we GUARANTEE no admin abuse. An additional email I received today: This is a mass mail aimed at our clients who have purchased our ARMA DayZ Package Game Service. As you will all be aware over the past few days when attempting to play on a Vilayer Private Hive server you wont have been able to connect. Also recently our main coder and CEO (Lee) has been in the hospital and just underwent surgery. This has caused a delay in investigating the issues we are currently experiencing. You will have also experienced a delay in our support staff responding to your tickets, this was due to the high influx of tickets that came to us due to this issue. The issue itself was due to a breach of our hive database. The vilayer hive is based on open source code provided by a 3rd party and by no fault of our own this code was exploited, not just with our hosted services but with several other DayZ providers who use the same base code. Now what does this mean for you? Well, every DayZ Package server is going to be reset due to the data being un-recoverable. ALL hive data apart from tents and vehicles is going to be reset. We do regret that this happened and we do apologise but as mentioned above it was out of our control and we couldn't have stopped such an attack. We will now be working on resetting the hive to a state allowing you to connect with fresh reset servers, after this we will be working on securing the hive to prevent this from happening again in future. There are those of you who will be wondering how you will be compensated due to this issue. To create a sense of order in the way we deal with good will, we require you to create a support ticket once your service has been restored. We will then work on a first come first serve basis on serving good will allowances. There is no need to create more than one ticket regarding an issue or good will request, we will deal with every ticket in the order they come to us. I've also played a good survivor but as someone else stated in another thread: "A survivor is a bandit who doesn't know it yet." I'm also pretty tired of getting KOS'd and trying to help others and getting bullets in return. What I like to do now is find clan based servers and attack their bases instead of sniping people on the coast. I like to actually be a "bandit" and fight for vehicles and tents full of military gear over a tin of beans I really don't need.

Water fills up instantly at the pumps, doing what you are doing, but in a lake, there is an inexplicable lag. And that lag varies by server. Go in the lake (not the ocean - that doesn't work anymore), up to your waist. No deeper, no shallower. Do the inventory right-click-water-bottle thing. He will eventually bend over and fill, and eventually you will hear the glug glug sound. Some servers are nice and snappy with this animation/interaction, some take about 10 seconds where you aren't sure if you are even in deep enough. Practice will get you there. Mic: I forget what the default key is. Check that in keyboard settings. Regardless, you want to make sure you are on the correct voice channel first. The one you almost always want to be on is Direct. Never General unless you are trying to talk to people on the player-list pre-load screen. Vehicles: i think there are certain places that do more damage. I am told that a 50 cal shot to the engine will certainly disable it in one shot, but I don't know if that means it fully kills the "ENGINE" parameter or just shanghei's the whole vehicle.

My first kill was the other day. Been playing for a little over a month, no player kills. Plenty of shot on site deaths. I am a generous player usually giving up a secondary or primary weapon if someone is gear less. I hooked up with this clan who had a decent base with lots of tents and vehicles. Been lots of internal strife and one left the group, pretty sure he notified others of the base. Like an idiot I log off in the middle of a circle of tents. I log in with a "you are dead". I am like how the hell did that happen. Luckily for me I see the you have been killed and by who. I relog in and to my surprise the fool combat logged. I expected a lengthy coast run but I spawned where I died with all my gear. My dead player was on the ground next to me. I check the stats and see the name of the guy who killed me and a -1 penalty for logging out like a bitch. There was a bike next to me so I must have logged in right as he was looting. Of course he is going to come back, they always do. I move to cover over by the vehicles and wait about 5 minutes. He relogs under the name "player1". I see his head pop up and open fire. He falls down but not dead. He also has the high ground. I come up to finish him off and he gets me once with a shotgun, im bleeding and have a broken leg. He dies but I cant loot him, weird! I was able to loot my dead body so I have to coyote packs and two stanag sd's. the way I hooked up with the clan was pretty weird also. They were active on side chat and had a heli. I ask for a lift and they set the trap and invite me in. When I am in sight one of them shoots me claiming I was aiming at them. I later get in there team speak and they ask who I was. I tell them and one says "awkward". We laugh it off and all is good. Later that night they loose the heli and the server resets. I happen to be at the nwaf and find damn near all the vehicles there. Sometimes I kind of like hackers. I let one of the clan guys know, he's the only one on. I pick him up and bring him to the nwaf. The rest is history, been chumming around with them ever since. I dont get attached to my gear because the hunt for the gear is the best part for me.

we've been toying with vehicle counts and spawn locations as well as slowly adding new vehicles to the spawn list. so, if you play here, let us know what you think! we're also looking at creating some custom loadouts as a reward for people who have donated. we've been pleasantly surprised by the number of donations we've received so far and we're hoping to be able to give something back to those in the dayz community who have helped our servers and community grow and remain strong. -
I agree that its much more likely, to be sure. I have been hacked, twice I think, over the course of many many hours of gameplay. Both times I had top-level gear, and I look at it as sort of a blessing; keeping the game fresh for me and causing me to re-equip again. Game gets a little boring when you're lonewolfing, have 3 tents full of gear and 2 vehicles all to yourself.

New [RMOD]Private Server looking for clans, groups, and lonewolfs!

Hello there! The server im an admin on deserves more players!The server is Version: 1.7.3 .The server REQUIRES RMOD! There is a day and night cycle, and it is hosted in Europe. I live in America and i get great connection all the time! We have 4+ active admins on almost 24/7. Here are some settings and features on the server: 75+ Vehicles (Might be upped to 90 or so) Scheduled restart times are: 0800 1400 2000 0200 gmt Nameplates: DISABLED 3rd Person: ENABLED Crossairs: ENABLED DeathMessages: DISABLED Custom Bases for clans! If your clan has at LEAST 3 people, i will gladly build your clan a base in your choice of location, i will be able to add a fuel tank and/or water pump and some other misc items! Towns are being Re-Done! A couple things have been Re-done so far, we have made Kamenka a nice place to spawn ^_^ Also Balota has been redone and we are updating the map almost every single day! Server uses RMOD so we have lots of custom vehicles, theres even an osprey currently on the server! We will soon also start doing events! Some examples are like fighting in an arena, and the champion will recieve a handsome award ;) and another one is scavenger hunt, were we hide a tent in a city and who ever finds it, gets whats inside! And more events will be made up over time! Sound nice? Because it is! We are adding newer features all the time, the server does have a whitelist and simply send me a message to get whitelisted, it will be done as soon as possible! NZ 03 Hacker gave me items, I don't want them.

Playing on NZ 03 (3pm local time), running through woods and heard explosion (helicopter crashing). Next second a guy in a gillie suit asked me over voice chat if I wanted anything. I declined, but he spawned a sniper rifle in front of me (I didn't take) and changed my outfit from civilian clothes to gillie suit. He asked if I would like any vehicles or to be transported anywhere on the map and I said "no" and I started to walk away. He spawned in a helicopter and took off (which he crashed). TLDR: Hacker changed my civilian clothes to gillie suit and I don't want to be banned for having hacked items. -
As we have seen, there is rampant "hacking" in -game at the moment. Also as we've seen, everyone is a spastic and rants and raves over how rocket should fix the hacking. I'm just making this so people can get some sort of knowledge about the situation, and generally because i'm sick of every second thread being some douche whining about how BI or DayZ team should fix it. Background. Since Arma was developed, it has primarily been made as a Military Simulator. To this end BI has ALWAYS had a "Trusted client" model. Basically, players can execute any scripts they want, and freely. The game was designed to be played on such a large scale, and with the Military in mind, they made this decision. Why? So you could create your own scenarios with a click of a mouse. No need for modding or anything like that, you type up a quick script in Notepad++ and then you spawn everyone with a tank, or in helicopters, or whatever. In short, Arma 2 was never made to be a MMOFPS w/ zombies. Ever. Because of the trusting relationship the engine has with the client, this clearly leads to people abusing it. It has always been like this, since the first Arma engine. And it won't change, BI cater first and foremost to their Military contractors and the HARDCORE MilSim fans. So in the end, if you played Arma 2 at all, you'd know that most servers were passworded and you organised playing with friends or skrims on the web. Because anyone can just walk in and execute a script that say, spawn a nuke. This is where the Arma 2 engine "fails" in terms of DayZ. (Not to mention being buggy .) Then comes Battleye. But first. For UBCSRavin! More on the Arma Engine/Hive/"Untrusted" In every other game I have come across, the client is automatically UNtrusted. Basically, you're a criminal waiting to happen in the eyes of whatever engine you are on. This restricts just about everything you can do, to an extent. If we take Battlefield 3 for example, there is no way in hell, without the use of a mod, or other more nefarious means, can you spawn anything that the server doesn't already have on it. Or even any Valve game. Each game comes installed with anti-piracy/anti-tamper measures. In Valve's case, its steam and VAC. Though some steam games also use punkbuster. Because you're already untrusted, any time ANYTHING that doesn't match the server-side "rules" you are instantly banned or kicked, not to mention that the Server Admin on most other games have complete control of their servers. There is good reasoning behind DayZ teams decision to tighten up the rules in relation to hacking and such. Without them anyone could accuse someone of hacking, get them banned, probably lose their 5 hour progress. This just can't happen. Its frustrating, but there simply isn't another way, unless Rocket chooses to centralise ALL the servers, like an MMO, and completely cut out the publics involvement in the running of the servers. Seriously, name another MMO that lets you run your own server. But you don't have the ability to execute scripts or anything remotely close to that of ArmA 2 on other games. Its pretty simple, it would get abused, not to mention that coding in the ability to make scenarios (For instance - Thunderdome) on the fly is a huge undertaking. Scripts are normally executed server-side, Client-side doesn't even get to see these scripts, without the aid of certain tools. On Arma 2 however, you can execute scripts at will. It has always been BI's mission to deliver an AUTHENTIC MilSim experience with their engine. Some of the contracts they hold are huge, I would assume. If you have a look at the BI website, it show cases some of their work, most pretty dam impressive. Unless you are playing Eve, I don't think there is any games of note that actually use a HIVE system. The HIVE, if you don't know, is basically a huge SQL (assumption) database containing EVERYTHING pertaining to each players Characters. The general way I the HIVE works is this : (I'd assume there would be more steps, and it would be more complex, but then again, you never know) - Join Server, "waiting for character to create" is the server you join (Lets say ANZ1 for now) querying the main HIVE for your specific data. - Do whatever it is you are doing on ANZ1, find a weapon, get some gear, etc, Battleye is active on each DayZ server, trying to find scripts that aren't meant to be there. - Leave server. ANZ1 communicates all your gear, positioning data etc. to the HIVE. The problem with this model is that its easy to exploit. If you can circumvent Battleye, the only server-level security aloud at the moment, you are free to do what you like. So you can spawn a bunch of vehicles and weapons and the ARMA 2 engine believes that is "legal." Then when you leave it communicates all this information to the HIVE, which also trusts what the Server has to say. Why wouldn't it though? If you assume everyone is good, there is no reason to look for the bad. And we need to remember as well, Arma 2 was never made to have a persistent world. It was designed so you can run scripts, which generally make entire missions, or change the current mission on the fly. Something I'm sure would let the Military contractors stress to their users how battle can change. SCRIPTS. Just about everything in Arma 2 is run by scripts. Practically all of DayZ is one script comprised of many, many smaller scripts. Every time loot spawns. Script. Every time you spawn. Script. Zombies spawn. Script. And so on. Which leads to the system being easily abused by the less savoury types of gaming. Understanding how scripting works in relation to anti-cheat. As you know, scripts can be executed at any time, by any player on any server. Its ridiculously easy to do. That is why Battleye is here. It picks up on any "illegal" scripts being executed, the ones that don't match what is meant to be run according to the server. There is basically a whitelist of scripts that are allowed to run, and anything else results in a kick, or even a global ban. Battleye is quite efficient at DETECTING scripts that aren't aloud to be run. The problem at the moment though, isn't Battleye failing (Well, kinda) It's the fact you can use a "hook" to inject into the Client-side Battleye process and typing a few lines of code that effectively make all the scripts you execute invisible to the server log, which means you can't get kicked, banned, etc. Once they find the memory space getting "hooked" onto, they release an update and a mass ban rolls out. One happened 3 days or so ago. That is how anti-cheat and hacking work in relation to each other. Hackers create a hack, Anti-cheat responds. Mass ban. Rinse and repeat. You can never completely stop hacking, ever. There are people who simply dedicate their time as a hobby to writing hacks for games. These people you don't really need to worry about. They might hack in weapons or vehicles and so on, but their hack stays for their private use, and perhaps a few close friends. They don't intentionally, ALL THE TIME, go out of their way to ruin other peoples days, like the currently huge amount of Scripts kiddies that got a hold of a certain hack, the friendly hackers you hear about, the ones giving heli rides and gear are generally the people who write their own shit. SCRIPT KIDDIES. These are the people you see running rampant. I can 99.99% guarantee these people either downloaded a leaked private hack or bought one from one of the hacking sites that make money from spastics who want an easier game. These people go mad with power. That's why you see so many people nuking, mass teleporting and so on. Because they are 12 year olds who have access to their parents credit card. You'd generally find these people who got killed by a legit sniper and say to themselves "I want that gun, oh, better look for an easy way to get it because i'm aman with ADD and a short attention span." Basically, they are the spoilt brats of our generation who want instant gratitude. Unfortunately, the hackers who made these hacks decided to put in instant-kill and teleportation and all these other exploits that ruin everyone's day. Current scripts ruining your day - UPDATED. I did choose to omit certain hacks from my original post however, simply because I believe that some people may think it would actually be pretty cool to hack with all the added features. ESP (in some of the released hacks) Teleportation. (Of themselves and others) Ability to see everyone on the map. Spawning of objects, weaponry or vehicles, including those not in DayZ itself. God mode. Nuking. Give themselves full health with a single button. Disable grass. - Dunno why they would do that, maybe to see people crawling? Name Spoofing/Possible GUID spoofing. On our side there aren't many things we can do to stop them. If you can Fraps them hacking and possibly get their names or what not, you can contact Battleye, the DayZ team or even BI with your evidence and they should get a ban, sometimes. I can't say for certain how on top of this type of reporting they are. The DayZ server hosting rules are pretty strict when it comes to banning people from your server. Therefore it is advised you don't ban anyone without the proper evidence, as you could get blacklisted. Besides, if you have no evidence the suspect will just come here and whine to the DayZ team for an unban. And if you have no evidence they have to oblige. Its not worth the hassle. First of all, aside from the HIVE database bans, Rocket + Team, as far as my knowledge goes (probably wrong :/) have nothing to do directly with the anti-cheat. At all. That is completely in Battleye's hands, not even BI itself would have anything directly to do with it. And no, they won't change their entire engine to stop scripts from being executed. Day Z is DEFINATELY the reason we see SO MANY skiddies in the game. ArmA 2 wouldn't be receiving any attention at all in the mainstream if it wasn't for DayZ. So thats where the influx of skiddie scum has come from. They came to play DayZ, it was too hard, or they got bored and they decided to grief everyone. But DayZ isn't the CAUSE of the hacking. I think i've written that sentence over 100 times on this forum the past two weeks. Battleye nor BI or the DayZ team announce what they are doing in terms to anti-cheat. It will just come out of the blue one day and MANY people will get banned. Patience, a virtue much lost in this generation. IT WILL BE FIXED. Battleye is a company contracted to work on the anti-cheat for the Arma 2 engine. Its a job. They will get it done, because thats what they are payed for. Its a complex job looking for hooks in your own .DLL, because there are so many places they could be injected. TL;DR : Shit happens then you die. Hackers are always a problem in games. There are ALWAYS people out to crack open games and look inside. Its just unfortunate that the Engine this incredibly popular game is running on happens to trust EVERY SINGLE PERSON. Of course people are going to abuse that trust. People are dicks. You should know that just by running around in Cherno. Yeah that's the one. No worries, you've been dramatically faster than my experience with my former hosting company. I'd just like to see the server working 100% right one way or another. Like I said in the last e-mail, it's okay to reset the map spawns to the map default if necessary. Are the backups just straight sql files? It really does seem like some weird string replace script was run on them to mix up the vehicle classes since everything is in the right spot with the right inventory, just the wrong vehicles. If I was a malicious sort of coder looking to cause headaches, that would be an easy thing to pull with full access to sql files. Edit: Problem is fixed! Thank you for being awesome!

another new idea i just had though it has probably been said before is tracking Tracking: everyone im sure has noticed the tracks of you car when driving in game and how they disappear in a few seconds, the same goes for footsteps and grass when you've been crawling. these things i believe should last for 1-2 min so that players could effectively "hunt" one another. another thing to add to this is a blood trail so an injured player will leave a trail of blood that can be found by another player, the the frequency of finding blood could be determined by how fast the injured is bleeding, and of course the trail would stop if the player bandaged. another map: a map similar to the size of Chenaus, but has a more diverce ecosystem and climate, such as a swampish area, a simi-tropical area (think Lingor), and in the north a snowy region (think Namalsk), also have an extreemly hard to reach area that is say over very steep very tall mountains which you cant fly or drive over (Due to the freezing temps the vehicles freeze up or something) and over the mountains have the best loot spawns we've ever seen. also in order to have a cold weather area of course cold weather gear, including winter camo that is usless in the other regions as normal camo would be in the north
