Hey, Dude asking me about hacking. No I didn't hack, And would never hack:) If you take a better look. This is a private hive. Meaning custom loot, Custom guns and vehicles. NWA Barracks holds lots of treasures :)

In the standalone it would be interesting to see survivors being able to set up searchlights, or simply lighting the streetlights or other electric lights. I will be the first to admit the tactical fallacy of that as it would make areas more visible, but it would allow for excellent world building and allow the survivors to establish large bases with lit areas that would make approaching them in the night more difficult dangerous. My idea for fuel: All of the abandoned car batteries. Implement an item called CAR BATTERY that can come charged or not charged. In the event it is charged, you can connect it to some lighting equipment that can be salvaged from vehicles, streetlights or residential/military areas. The batteries would be consumed after a certain period of time. Charging them would be done by creating a charging station, combining an OLD BIKE, some SCRAP metal, and WIRING. Essentially building a pedal generator. A survivor would "use" the pedal generator. It would consume "thirst" and "hunger" since they would be expending body energy and converting it to electrical energy. This would allow survivors to essentially convert food into "batteries" useful for further base building and possibly powering cars, if car batteries are implemented. Thoughts? P.S: I think this idea would fit well into the framework of the game already. No horribly messy coding. It would essentially be like "creating fire" where a light source is created. It would require the creation of an arbitrary object called "battery" the ability to "fill" this object when near a context sensitive area. In this case the area would be "generator" which in turn would be created from a bike. ALSO: You could FIND generators in game (I think I;ve seen them around) repair with engine parts, fill with jerry cans, VOILA, electricity!

This is the key IMO. It's already implemented for vehicles to zoom in at slow speeds and out when traveling quickly so doing this on foot should be easy. This can be appled when prone as well. The point is that the ARMA simulations have to strike a balance between realism and playablilty. There is nothing at the moment that simulates what your vision does IRL because it can't recreate the kind of proprioception our bodies have and link it with our vision. 1st person feels odd because it isn't really like our own vision and FOV and we switch to the greater FOV in third but it's exploitable. It's really going to have to be about implementing a compromise. That or everyone invests in an oculus rift.

Draay (DayZ) replied to Draay (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
We currently have 50+ vehicles which I think is suitable for our current player base. I have not messed with the loot tables YET. But if you would like to suggest some changes I can look into it. -
Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions
Rifle Eyez replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Agreed, however I think some of these suggestions are gonna bite people in the ass come the stand alone release. It's not the sims, it's not minecraft, and it's certainly not real life. it's nice to ponder standalone life in a forest using only a machete and crossbow/blow gun with poison darts with a likkle tent to live off the land but for 90% of people, IMO of course, that's gonna get insanely boring quick and people want the WHOLE game based around this? especially for people with lives and a limited time frame to play. ''Herp derp there shouldnt be any military weapons as the characters aren't in the S.A.S'' or ''we shouldn't be able to fix vehicles that easy without mechanical knowledge''. really? hell, one dude was complaining the old bicycle is too quick! I think these people just need to go camping IRL tbh. Judging from the thread comments i'm in the minority. However if I'm in a zombie apocolypse with crashed helis, army bases or outposts set up to try control it I know exactly where I'm heading for gear. Also, to the guy above saying guns should be the end game and melee more common place, can you imagine the balance issues there? -
Hello there fellow survivors! I've been playing DayZ for a while now but I've only been at the NW Airfield only once, was playing with 2 of my friends on teamspeak and we managed to kill some high geared guy in Cherno. After we killed that guy we were like fully loaded and geared enough to go to the NW Airfield and how we did it? Walking.... yeah we just walked up there and took us like 3 - 4 hours i think... we did some scavenging on our way too that probably took an hour of the time so yeah don't really feel like walking up there again... So i've been kinda wondering do you survivors here manage to get vehicles everytime you go there? I've never seen any vehicle i could repair and if i do i probably won't get all the parts in time before someone else repaired it...

Hey all, having a hard time finding a server that fits me. I would prefer a difficult server with most if not all extras are off. The ones that I absolutely do not want are: - 24/7 daylight - A ton of vehicles - 3rd Person - Nametags If you have or know of a private hive that fits that, please let me know. Thanks, SP

Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
eddict replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
We should be able to salvage vehicles, for example, take a wheel off, or maybe the engine or fuel tank. Can't say how many times i've found 2 vehicles with 3 wheels each. -
How do you get to the NW Airfield?
PracticalTactical replied to hotfrost's topic in New Player Discussion
Sometimes a good thing to do is walk up through the woods that run all along the west side of the map, because chances are you will find someones camp and sometimes these camps have vehicles! Once you reach Lopatino area just head east allong the dirt road leading through the fields and you will get to the airfield. to do this it is best to spawn at Kemenka. -
What should they add in standalone.
Pat aka Silas replied to MarshmellowHippie's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
More Skins AND Clothes! I want to look different. I hate it when i play with friend´s, cause i don't know who is who and an enemy could travel with us and i would think it's a friend cause i can't see the difference. + more vehicles and harder to destroy (with 1 km/h crash a tree = engine broken????) + more ammo spawn AND less weapon spawn + only spawn in military area + only 1st person + less medical stuff + less food (and less to have drinking and eating) + more backpacks + more different buildings with functions (Clothing-shop etc) + cigaretes + alcohol (yeah i know, wierd shit but in real i would to drink a lot) + radio-function to talk with other persons (also should be able to find an locating-tool) .... i have so much ideas! -
Hey, I'm LordSigma I've played both Arma and DayZ for a long time now, I've decided that the time has come to team up with people who share my skill and passion for the game. A bit about my style, I'm an all round guy when it comes to a position in a squad, If I had to name a speciality, it'd be vehicles. I've managed to progress my skill with both flying and driving to an extreamely high level. Also, I have a head for tactics, both in game and real life, My experience in military organisations has provided me with great knowledge of both military tactics and terminology. As far as teamwork goes, I'm fine being commanded but I have great leadership qualities. I'm not sure if this is how I go about appying, but I hope you'll take me into consideration, and maybe we can discuss in more detail on your vent server. Please drop me an email letting me know: [email protected] Kindest Regards, LordSigma

When finding a vehicle you should have two ways to get in and start it up Doors- should have to be opened and have an animation so you can't escape from zombies as fast as you can now along with the vehicle being able to take minor damage or zombies breaking into the vehicle with the option of you shooting it or going into some cinematic of kicking or punching it until it's dead or out of the car. Keys- You have to find the key or it is already in the vehicle, once you have it you can put it in your storage whatever that is or on a keyring if you find one to put any of your other keys on such as a house. Break in- You need something blunt like a rock or a crowbar to smash the window and get in it, but if it's a newer car theres a chance it could set off an alarm, but if you get in successfully you have to hotwire using something sharp to cut the wire. Popped Tires- In Real life when you pop a tire the wheel doesn't completely fall off so it's just the rim unless you get into a more extreme accident but for just normal damage to a wheel the tire should just look deflated or popped still with the rubber. Another option I think would be cool is if you ran out of gas or have a popped tire if you have say 3 or more people (Number can be changed) You have one person in the front steering with neutral on and the rest in the back pushing the car to wherever you want it say a bush or inside a garage until they get what's needed to fix it. Gasoline- Petrol should be depleted from gas stations or other areas after being used to much but then being able to recover after a set amount of time say 5 hours. Along with that if you happen to find some type of hose say a typical garden hose you can use a knife to cut it and use it to siphon gas out of other vehicles but this makes you more vulnerable and receiving fairly small amounts of gas for a desperate ditch effort. Controlling The Car- I don't know what the standalone's HUD is gonna be like but if you've ever played "Take on Helicopters" You'd know how that with the helicopters you have to specifically click on the buttons to do the whole startup and increasing throttle, etc. If the vehicles in the standalone had it where you had to click in the specific spot to start up a car or to turn on the headlights making it more intense having to startup a car to escape. Just for Shits/Car Startup- Why not have it if you're being chased by zombies and you get in a car there's a predetermined percentage that you have a failed startup just like in all the horror movies whenever the killers chasing them for some reason they can't startup cars.

Yeah, for me "end game" that is, the point in which basic survival means have been met (i assume?) involves finding more tents for more gear, vehicles of any description, and heli's ofc. But if you really need an absolute end point, a point where you would normally get an achievement and such. then.. Mountain Dew

This is one reason why I play on a private hive (Wireworld EU) - it doesn't make much sense to maintain tents or vehicles when they're spread across several public hive servers. I'd rather pick one great server, free of hackers and stupidity, and stick to it. Whilst I mostly play alone, I'm always on the Wireworld Teamspeak talking to the other guys. Whenever I want I can join them for a mission, whether it be a rescue/medical emergency, repairing a vehicle, a chopper run looking for heli-crashes, hunting other players, messing about in the bi-plane (v175), etc. Or I can tell them that tonight I'm playing against them and make my own channel. There's only so much of a 'survival' aspect to the game for a lone player (although the zombies in the latest 175 beta are insane at the moment!). I'd encourage you to find a server with a Teamspeak and get to know some of the other players. For moments when you want to play solo, you can always mute it. You're welcome to try Wireworld! I'll help you get geared up again.

What is the point in hosting your own server?
Chris529 replied to Xentious's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
It isn't forcing it on anyone, it isn't hurting anyone, it's just an option. Clearly there are people who would really enjoy such things, like I wouldn't mind riding through chernogorsk in a bmp guns blazing, crushing and killing anything in my way. It would be a break from the stresses and hardships of classic DayZ. I would favourite a couple of those servers and maybe go on with my friends and fix up really cool vehicles that we normally don't get to and have some fun. I think it would keep gameplay much the same in a way, I mean its just the case of sticks and rocks vs sticks and rocks, guns vs guns and then the next step military vehicles vs military vehicles. Same stuff just a level up. -

MissBehave replied to Xentious's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Welcome to the life of a public server admin. Wait until player bitch at you for not being able to stop hackers, that is when the true joy begins. Maybe you would better like just doing your own Arma 2 OA server and getting the Wasteland mod or some other mod if you want all that stuff. Why change DayZ when there are other Arma2 mod have tons of vehicles weapons and everything else.. just no zombies... -
Why is it I always get killed anywhere on this giant map?
Dayzo replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The doubt used to bother me too. The only way is to get on a server where you are nearly 100% sure there are no hackers. Not all private hives are created equally though. I recommend Wireworld (EU server) especially if you like lower population servers and survival tactics. Note that Wireworld runs the very latest community beta patch. Follow the instructions in the above link - basically join the lobby and get kicked (this is so your player name and id is logged in the database), then email the address in the 'kick message' with your GUID, and finally download the latest beta (3 PBO files) from the link you're given. The details of the TS server are in the lobby message if you get stuck. With 5-10 players on the server you can gear up and repair vehicles in hotspots knowing there is a small but significant risk of an encounter with someone, which should keep you on edge. Encounters are still possible in remote areas, but because they're rarer and more unexpected they can really get the adrenalin pumping. With 10-20 players on the server, gearing-up and maintaining your tents/vehicles obviously becomes more dangerous, but it's still possible. 20-25 players becomes more PvP orientated; time to leave your camp and go hunting! Wireworld tends to fluctuate between these amounts of players, so you have some quiet times to collect gear and repair vehicles, and some busier times when you can scout and kill players (or be killed!). I've tried the busy servers with 30-60 players, and really they don't have much survival aspect to them at all, just mostly death-matching. Once you know you're not just being teleported to by hackers, the only thing you can do is try not to break cover often. -
In my personal opinion i think more vehicles will make the game boring. To me having to scavenge the vehicle and the parts for it makes the gameplay! Its more realistic and adds hours more gameplay...

I have reached nearly 500hrs on Dayz and now I'm having a lot of fun fixing vehicles and helis...

I vote "endgame" for negative buzzword of 2005-2012. This game is about the journey, not the destination. Every game is, heck, life is. So why do people keep expecting a glorious mountain of fun at the very end of something.. Anyway, enough of the rant. If you havent even found a vehicle yet, there's still plenty to do. Explore the fringes of the map, looking for camps (that's where the vehicles are hidden). Alternatively, keep an overwatch over Airfields and high industrial zones (where Helis tend to come to refuel). You can also try Counter-Sniping in Cherno and Elektro, killing wanna be Pro-Snipers sitting there, waiting for freshly spawned players. Or you could try one of the half dozen different maps out there, offering fresh takes on the game (like Namalsk being about staying warm, while also having a lot more vehicles) Or you could just do some epic stuff that sounds fun to you, die in a glorious blast and experience the thrill of first-day survival all over again.

Requesting Support... programmer needed.... Hey all, Niki here. I was sitting around the other day, something I do a hell of a lot it seems, and was thinking about DayZ. Now during this little brainstorm session, ironic as my brain was in shut down, I had a few ideas which I'd like to try out and get implemented on a private hive server. Now I have already, I'm pretty sure, have a person with several servers on board to help me out. Now I need a programmer.... So enough with the typing and banter. Now with the ideas: So first things first. I was thinking of making it so that way the in-game "fuel-tanks" had limited petrol. I was thinking of setting them up with 100L max, and having a refill rate of 1L/H. Now the reason for this, is I do believe that this would foster some interesting game play. Say for instance the helo and APC (I'll talk more about this later). Instead of just flying around constantly looking for people's bases people would have too actually use their vehicles wisely. I think it would make the control of fuel points a priority and make fuel a vital resource, as in my opinion, it should be. Next I was thinking of adding in say 1-2 APC and 3-4 Technicals. (If we do this, I suggest up the AT weapon spawns as well). Now when I say add them, I don't mean to just make it an all out war. I think if the ammo had to be found, and was like as rare as NVGs, that too would foster some great game play. Say for instance my team found an APC. We'd have to fix it up. Then use our precious gas, which these things suck own, to drive it away. Then we'd have to find the ammo for it. I think that this would be great though, because if fuel and ammo are limited it'd be like a last resort weapon or siege weapon and would reward the players who spent the time to maintain them. Third, I was thinking of adding in the helo sling mod. This mod would allow certain helos like the Mi-17 to carry vehicles and other stuff, say like ammo, food, medical supplies and what not. This would make another interesting development in the feel of the game. I would only recommend doing this with the fuel mod though, as this would be an ultimate troll tool if it had unlimited gas. Finally, I really would like to see that base building be implemented. I think that too would add a lot of interesting characteristics to the game. Oh! Almost forgot. I think we should have side-chat disabled, unless... unless you find and have a radio. It seems ridiculous to have a global chat in a zombie apocalypse with nothing running it.

Limit on amount of weapons
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Thanks for replying guys. I see where you are coming from, not necessary to do that on all weaponry, maybe leave that optional to server admins? I'd limit some high tier ones, so kills would be more rewarding. It would be viable option to limit weapon spawn like they do with vehicles, weapon disappears - allowed for respawn. I'm specifying on pvt hive's only cause specific server player-base has 1 database, while hive server player base has as many databases as there are servers, which would be close to impossible to manage. Pvt hives currently have all the powers to modify weaponry in-game, but an item respawn control system as such is missing.
