  1. Dear Dayz devteam, I’ve got many suggestion how you could improve gameplay and realism. Most of them for the SA-version. I inspired myself by The Walking Dead, probably pretty obvious since it's an awesome series. English isn’t my mother tongue so please be patient. Unfortunately I can’t summaries my suggestions in little sentence because they stay in context with each other. Overview Zombie Movement Smell Zombie Noise Zombie behavior in General and Killing Zombie Virus Skills Character Movement/ 3rd Person Weapons Story Day Night cicle Hallucination Cities and houses Server Hopping /Log out Final Conclusion First off: one thing that killed the atmosphere of Dayz for me is that zombies are way too weak or bugged. They should even be a threat for experienced player. Also really bad is the gamma setting in Arma2 that destroyed gameplay fun totally when I found out about it because I played mostly at night. Here are some of my ideas how basic game changes could change the gameplay a lot: Zombie Movement In my opinion zombies should move slower and only if they manage to approach closely they start to move faster but not super-fast as it is now, more like jogging. Also the closer they are, the faster they get. A comparison to nature; an animal that hunts usually sneaks slowly from far away and if they think the target is close enough they start run or hit fast. Zombies should also have different speed parameters because some zombies are more injured than others and therefor can’t run fast. They should also get attracted by flashlight and all other sources of light like fire etc. Also consider this suggestion that fits well with mine: http://dayzmod.com/f...ie-ai-proposal/ I think when you do noise the zombies should not run because noise isn’t equal to meet. They run only on sight (even if they lost sight for a short period) and are very close. Trees and bushes shouldn’t make you invulnerable that’s very dump I hope they can fix that in the SA. Now you think I might be a tard because I stated earlier that zombies are too weak and now I suggest making them slower, wtf. Well that needs to be compensated. There need to be more zombies. They also should be clustered sometimes. In some parts of a city there might be almost no zombie while somewhere else there might be a lot. I heard that they will implement zombie hordes, that’s nice to hear but in city’s zombies should not be even distributed as well. Also on rare occasions you might meet random zombies in forests or even groups. Also my next suggestions will make zombies stronger. Smell Zombies can hear and see, why not smell as well? That’s probably one of the most important sense to improve gameplay drastically in my opinion. If you enter a city/village, some (not every!) zombies should smell you and walk slowly towards your position. That means, if you stay in a house or camp somewhere zombies will find you, even if they don’t see and hear you. If possible the Devs could implement wind and therefor it can matter from what side you enter the city. This could tactically be pretty interesting and you are always in danger especially the longer you stay at a certain area. To prevent zombies to smell you, you have to cover yourself in zombie-meet from a dead body. Negative side effect for this could be, that you get sick faster or something else, haven’t thought that completely. Zombies noise Since I heard that there will be random zombies there is one more thing to add. Zombies have to have different sound effects and different volume. Some zombies shouldn’t nearly be heard if they haven’t got agro of a player. That would scary me more because you never know if there is a zombie around the corner or in a house. Zombie Behavior in General and Killing By the way importance of the Zombie sense: Smell < Hearing < Sight/Vision In General zombies should move slowly even if they see, hear or smell you. But they can attract each other and encircle you if don’t pay attention. Only if they come close (like 10-20 meters) they start getting faster. Zombies should only die if you destroy their heads (or reduce body damage strongly); right now in the mod this isn’t possible because zombies are way too fast. Another thing you could do is implement zombies that look dead but aren’t in fact (especially in buildings is this very creepy). Zombie Virus If a zombie hits you, there should be a very high chance (maybe around 70%) that you got injured and you will unfortunately turn slowly into a zombie. To prevent that from happen your teammates or yourself should try to find the rare antivirus. The player itself should not know when he will turn into a zombie. That means it can take an hour or more until you become one, it also depends on how hard the zombie has hit you but is still random. Those zombies should be faster and stronger than regular zombies since they are still very fit and therefor more dangerous. If the group is looking for an antivirus and you have to stay with them closely because you can’t see properly when you are injured you might kill your mates. Therefor your teammates have to decide if they want to help you and risk their own life or basically kill you. To prevent people from just logging off and wait until a mate got his antivirus he should still die even logged off after the random time past. Skills In most games you gain levels or skill points. In Dayz I suggest something similar. For example if you run a lot with time come by you can run longer and slightly faster. If you carry a lot you can carry more. If light lots of fire, you will light faster and better and warmer fire. Same with shooting; if you aim and shoot anywhere you will get better and much more things. I suggest this only because right now there isn’t much to lose when you die if teammates protect your dead body and you can just go and grab your stuff. Basically if you die you lose your skills. Character movement/3rd Person Well this is for sure suggested before but I need it in context with the rest. Your character shouldn’t be able to run fast forever. Maybe one minute he can run fast after that he has to run slower (jogging). Zombie speed if very close should something be in between your fast running and slower running. I also don’t understand why they implemented 3rd Person. It takes lots of realism away and isn’t needed at all I think. I mean in reality if I hide in the grass I can’t just look around very far without having the risk to get discovered. I also think it’s awesome how the world gets blurry when run in first person. It makes it harder to see. Weapons Add more shot, close-combat and handguns. Remove some of the rifles. To what I read, I think that’s going to be done anyways. A little suggestion to add, mounted weapons on pickups would be nice and this: http://dayzmod.com/f...eable-vehicles/ Pls don’t implement hair cross, really not needed in a zombie simulation where shooting is secondary (you still can aim by clicking right button). I know there are different settings for servers but this sucks. Everyone should be forced to play the same game mode. Easy mode settings destroy the whole flair of the game. I mean in reality if you shoot and don’t aim you hit nothing or need lots of bullets to luckily hit, why should that be different in a game, I really don’t understand this? With that change even slow zombies at higher number can get very dangerous. Anyways next point. Story Well in Dayz there is no story and that’s fine but how about you add some background info’s which you can find out through notes and cassettes, radio announcements, cries for help etc. (maybe also players can record on cassettes themself they should be rare thou). For example; what happened to a certain area and why. So people can find hints that might also help them to survive. This could also help new players. This suggestion might add a bit more deepness. Day and Night cicle This shouldn’t be 24 hours because if you stay on a server and always play at evenings you remain at the same day cicle right now for all time, this is boring. I suggest a 20 hour cicle or something close to that. In addition you could add something to the story board to why it is 20 hours. It could be because a meteorite crashed onto the earth and changed the day and night cycle as well as it might have released the zombie virus. What ever J Hallucination Something I came across might be hallucinations. If you are injured or got a bad cold you see or hear none existing things. This might add an eerie effect. Mega creepy Cities Houses and landscape In bigger cities I wish there would be more narrow backstreets. Houses should be closer to each other, just less space to escape. But in addition I think houses should be entered through bigger windows. Breaking window glass should create loud noise though. I would also like to see some of the smaller villages a bit bigger, just slightly. I also would like to have more cliffs where you can die. Right now it's like: "lol noob walks around with flashlight or flares", this shouldn't be the way. Walking around without proper light should be punished that way or with another way, dont care. Logging out and Server Hopping In the SA version log out shouldn’t be instant. You have to wait a minute. If you change server why doesn’t the system put you on a random spot at the starting coast? You should also lose all your tents and other saves on the previous server, it just ports the things you carry with you. This is an easy and fair way to handle server hopping and should be implemented asap. I know it’s bit long and some of the stuff I mentioned was already suggested but never in context with other suggestion therefor I had to mention it as well because I don’t think everyone has read the whole suggestion forum. Final Conclusion I don’t know if those changes make the game harder for experienced players but I hope it makes it less interesting to wait and snipe innocent players. In my opinion experienced player should fear zombies almost as much as new players. It shouldn’t be that you need lots of skills (like aiming) to survive but mainly people that are carefully and like to play with others should have an advantage. If the devs can approach to that state then they have done a very good job. Otherwise the game gets boring and becomes a sniper fun fest. Then I play rather BF3 or other shooters. By the way, most of the changes stay in context with each other as I stated before. I mean if you would just implement the smell and let the zombies behave as now, it would be very imbalanced and hard to survive. Now discuss
  2. Wireworld - came for the zombies, stayed for the drama. There's steady 15-30 people online most evenings, which is perfect for Chernarus in my opinion. Almost everyone is new-blood and running in small groups. Quite a few seem to be scavenging/repairing vehicles rather than just camping hotspots. 1761 seems like the best version for quite a while. File signatures are on, and BE seems to be doing OK. It's all good! I look forward to being shot by you all. As far as hacking and all that crap, the truth can't always be uncovered easily and admins only have a certain amount of time and skill at their disposal. I suggest the bottom line is this - if you seem to be causing more problems than you are solving, then you're going to be gone whether it's an injustice or not.

  4. Yes, I used the search function. It didn't give me much of anything that was relevant. Is there any news on this front yet? I'm rather fond of private hives. At present, the news we have points at zombies and items being spawned at the start of the game. No more loot cycling. That is GREAT NEWS because it'll mean that not everyone has a military grade weapon from their magically refilling deer stand. They won't have tons of ammo, or tons of supplies. GOOD ALL AROUND. But there are two issues with the main hive that almost always force me to go to private hives. Loot hoppers and ghosters. Holy f- me sideways do loot hoppers piss me off. Nothing beats scoping out an area for players, making sure the coast is clear, running up, and then running into some stupid little prick who's loot hopping in the barracks with a .50 cal and kills you in one shot. It's happened to me. Another time, (at the barracks again), me and a friend were hiding in there because we heard footsteps. They offered to let us leave if we just walked out (totally legit we won't shoot you we swear on our dead grandmother's grave and cross our hearts /sarcasm). I told them to kindly come in the doorway if they wished. So we could kill them. Of course, they did the sensible thing. They logged off, went to a different servers, entered the barracks far room, and then re-entered the server. After I saw the guy leave the server, I was all like 'hell naw', ran to the end room, and put about ten rounds of my M14 into the guy as he was spawning in. Take THAT Mr. Ghoster. But case in point, that story isn't uncommon. Except it's usually the guy playing by the rules that gets fucked over by the ghoster. I've seen clans use this tactic to hunt other players. It's ridiculous. Private hives just make DayZ, DayZ as it was meant to be played. Loot is taken by people who pass by: not by five people who logged in there, looted the place, and walked off. You don't have to worry about someone popping into existence right behind you, and generally speaking, the players you encounter are armed based on their ability to play the game rather than their ability to server-hop. AS50's are rarer because they're not found on dead bandits at Cherno. NVG's are non-existant because there's no server-hopper to find them. Vehicles are easier to keep hidden because there's a static group of people who play as opposed to an ever-changing roster of people logging in all over the damn place. Plus, people don't Alt+F4 as often in private hives. Why? You can't run to a new server is why. You log right back in there at that same spot. Private hives are just better in my opinion. So someone please tell me we're getting private hives. I don't like the magical Ender-men with teleporting powers and meta-gamed loot.

    Standalone - private hives?

    I've been on some good private hives, and then I've been on some shite ones. I was crawling through Cherno, didn't even have a hatchet. Was quietly making my way towards a zombie-killing weapon because it was broad daylight in the patch that made zombies ridiculously hard (and much more fun). A guy rocked up on a motorbike. He was wearing a ghillie suit. He dropped me a silenced MP5, and a silenced M9. And then he ran off, leaving me the motorbike. It turned me off the server entirely. Same as these 'donate for weapons' servers. I can handle donations for things like tins of beans and warm clothes, as a taviana server I play on does that. It doesn't unbalance the game at all. But when they start handing out weapons? No. Just ugh. That being said, I think Rocket will keep a much tighter reign on private hives in the standalone, mainly because it's no a mod any more. It's a GAME. The servers have to be running the STANDALONE version of the GAME. Not the mod. The game. So unlisting the server from the server browser would effectively kill it, no matter what the admins did. This way, the private hives will be much more regulated than the current ones. And even though I enjoy getting from A to B quicker, I am really sick of '500+ vehicles' private hives...

    Finally....

    Hey guys, So at new year i stumbled across this game and it actually inspired me to finally build a PC and after 2 months its done! I'm looking for a server which has little cheating (I believe these are called Whitelisted?) Private Hive and a few other things.... A decent sized population i.e chance of seeing people but not running into them every 5 mins. A Balanced amount of vehicles. A healthy split in Bandits/Survivors Basically i'm looking for a balanced server. Anyone have any ideas? I keep seeing Balota Buddies pop up, How would i go about joining one of there servers? Oh and im a Brit :)
  8. Been offline for the last few days, saw last night that the hive is now spread over two servers. I understand players and gear replicate to both servers but tents and vehicles do not? Just wondering what safeguards are in place to stop people taking advantage of this by using the other server to change locations when coming into contact with Zeds / Players in a bid to gain the advantage? Apart from hacking protection the main reason I have played on this hive previously was that with just the one server this was impossible for people to do. Of course if I have misunderstood the new setup as you were!

Just added the following scripts: Tow - Large vehicles like Urals, Buses and Tractors can now tow other vehicles (all bikes, cars, vans etc) Heli Cargo Lift - The UH1H and Mi17 can now cargo lift other vehicles around the map. Remove vehicle Parts - You can now remove parts from one vehicle to fix parts on another vehicle (just don't steel from another players vehicle, if you're caught you'll be banned). More additions coming soon...

    My Private Hive is standard ... only difference is that vehicles have a higher chance of spawning ... but there are not more of them. The rest of my stuff is normal as I want to keep it that way. :)

    this post is not pointless. the bad thing is, when you want to play dayz, you find 5-6000 servers - most of them are private, but also not save from cheaters. Admins are not always online. And many private servers have too many modified game-settings like to many vehicles, too many overpowered weopons on loot... etc. Where are the servers, where you can play realistic custom dayz-mod? You search like an idiot :P

    I prefer moving on foot because its the stealthiest way to move. I only tend to use vehicles when i really need to get somewhere quickly or if the servers got a low pop because generally the engines are so loud they get you noticed from hundreds of meters away and just turn you into an instant target. Ironically though Ive found more vehicles due to moving on foot everywhere, I have a strange knack of stumbling upon players camps which normally have at least one hoarded vehicle to take

    Hi mate, you're welcome to check us out @ The BSB Network. (http//:www.bsbnetwork.com). We're an open social community for fair and mature gamers with our own Survival Taviana server that's well suited to newbies who are starting out with lots of emphasis being on PvE (survival) . We have our own Teamspeak server too (easier than Skype). We're UK based and all our members speak English We've been playing and supporting Day Z since launch and have our own internal clan (split into two factions, BSB Ravens and BSB Scorpions) as well as hosting several smaller groups and clans within our community. But to be fair it's pretty mcuha s mall group of regulars who play. Our Taviana server is Whitelisted and protected against hackers and has loads of vehicles (300+) , loads of new buildings and interesting cities and most points of interest are less than 1K between each other. Our server is very much suited to new players and our members are friendly and helpful and are more than willing to have you tag along, as well as giving you tips and help along the way.     Drive them on the road and avoid roadblocks ... they are plenty fast. As in real life ... taking a Bus off-road ... can cause havoc. The only Vehicle I think needs some serious attention is the ATV ... so I just avoid them for now. Road vehicles are durable on road. Off Road vehicles are durable off road and on road. Drive in to a tree or stone wall with any car ... and yes it will break ... but that is real life. :)
  15. We're hosting a DayZ Hunger Games tournament on his server tonight/this evening, and we welcome as many people as possible. We'll all spawn at the same time, fresh server (meaning fresh loot, zombies, vehicles, crash sites etc), on Chenarus. You spawn with a bandange and a flash light. It's a free for all (you can make aliances and talk through direct comms if you wish), and the last man standing wins (only one person can win, if you make an aliance you'll have to betray or have a standoff at some point). Anything goes except hacks. If you die, whether it be from zombies, falling or players or anything else, you're out. If you want to take part, send me a private message or reply to this thread and I'll give you the details (IP, start time, etc). Thanks Sorry, that went horribly. As it was our first time hosting something like this, we didn't know the best way to manage/organise people. It ended up with some people starting with less blood, a lot of people not turning up etc. When there's lots of people talking in side, it's hard to know who's saying what :P If we ever did this again, we'll be much more organised haha!     Pretty much agree, also on the subject of Denzel...why did he run to each car and do the handbrakes rather than just lean down at the end of the last car and open up the brakeline valve? China and a few countries are actually still producing steam locomotives, though in limited numbers (I believe they just recently built one in the UK as well from scratch rather than a restoration) The US and UK and a few 'first worlders' have a few running examples for excursions and specials. There's also 'third worlders' that have older steam locos from 'first worlders' that they kept in running condition. Chenarus' rail line is not electrified in any way shape or form. The tracks are fairly accurate when I look at them actually too, so its not something like they forgot to put in a third rail (third rail would be very unlikely in Chenarus besides in yards) or an overhead gantry system. And if it was there'd be honestly no way of powering the entire line without fully restoring not only the power plant s) but also all the infrastructure (jumper cables and a generator/battery would not be enough) There's a much simpler solution which I post in just about every Train post I see on here. Maintenance of Way vehicles. Speeders, Track Inspectors, handcars, hell even a hirail truck would do (don't know if they used them in Russia/Soviet Union) and they are all either gas powered or with the hand car, hand pump. Getting a working locomotive would be a pain in the ass and impossible to keep hold of, not that I'm against adding something small like a switcher with a box car and caboose, and as I've suggested before, an RDC or motor coach of some type.   17. Q: How is clothing going to work in regards to Hero/Survivors/Bandits? A: We haven't decided on a final implementation because obviously with the customizable clothing that could throw a spanner in the works as you are forcing someone to wear bandit clothing when they really want to wear a hoodie etc so it's how we implement that. One of the ideas we have thrown around is blood on the hands or clothing. Q: Have you decided if Utes is going to be added and how big is Chernarus+? A: No, there hasn't been a decision made on Utes yet. Chernarus+ is roughly the same size, all of the changes are done within the actual landscape of Chernarus (new areas, balancing existing towns and fixing problems with the existing buildings) Q: Have you ever thought about taking things from Wasteland such as missions? A: We want to have something for players to do as sort of an end game, the problem is how can we do that within server limitations. Wasteland has base building but because that is done above ground it means an ever increasing number of items are saved to the server which eventually starts to lag down the server. It's really how we achieve an end-game without affecting everything else. We have spoken about instanced underground base-building as an idea and that's something we are yet to decide on, so like on Skyrim you've got your main land and when you go into a dungeon there is a separate loading time for that, it's a separate world space which would eliminate the problem with items. That's one idea but it's not something we are going to be looking at until the second half of the year really. Q: Engine optimization - Are you still going to lose a lot of FPS in cities/buildings? A: I would say that the impact is going to be significantly decreased as all the zombies are going to be spawned in at the start now. That's something we have been trialing Which means rather then your client having to spawn them into cities it's done by the server. Q: In the latest mod patch, driving through cities even spawns zombies. Is that something you have been thinking of doing or will all zombies be spawned when the server starts? A: We have not tackled vehicles yet because we want to primarily launch with your character, guns and things so vehicles will probably be in one of the updates after we launch the initial alpha. They might be in for the initial release but that depends on when we do the initial release so it['s not set in stone. As for the lag Zombies in the mod currently use the same skeletons as players, meaning the animations can cause more lag. So we what we have done is redesigned the skeleton so it's more efficient so hopefully that will help with some of those problems. Q: What are you doing to prevent scripters/hackers? A: Currently the two main methods being employed are using VAC, which means they will have to create a new steam account to rebuy the game, the other method is our new client-server architecture which puts more onus on the server to check data rather then it being done by clients. Also, using steam We can also ensure people don't load unverifed files in at the same time. Inevitably though there will always be some hackers in DayZ. Q: Diseases, what are you thinking, what can you catch, how do they transfer etc A: Diseases will be done like they happen in real life to some extent. All diseases start of with what's called a latent reservoir which is where the disease is kept, for example they believe H5N1 (Bird Flu) started off with bats I think, bats/mice/rats/watersources etc. So we can start a virus on one server from one water source, say Cholera. Anyone who uses that water source will have a chance of being infected who can then pass it on to other water sources. They can also infect other players through bodily contact if the virus spreads that way. Even if that player uses medicine to cure it, someone else could go to that latent reservoir and still pick it up and spread it around as well. Q: Are servers going to be connected on a single hive? A: Our intention is to start off with just a public hive and all servers will connect to that and we will see how that goes. Q: Is there no way to get alpha access for the standalone? A: Not at the moment, the alpha codes aren't just alpha copies, they also give you a free copy of the game, they are exactly the same as the copies you will buy on steam so we are giving them to people who have helped out with the mod. Testing at the moment really isn't anything exciting anyway, it involves connect and then disconnecting from a server. Q: You have mentioned the initial version of the game is an alpha and then over time will add more content, is that correct? A: We will be adding regular updates to add or improve things in the game, more weapons, clothing, vehicles, lots of things like that. We will be able to settle down into fairly regular updates once the alpha is released. Q: You have mentioned you are going to focus more on civilian weapons, are you going to spawn with anything or will it be similar to the mod? A: I think the system will still spawn you with very little, as for military weaponry and rifles, there will still be hunting rifles. There may still be sniper rifles I'm not sure which military weapons we are directly keeping though at the moment. All the weapons will be redone so we can improve the sounds/models and things like that. Q: Are heli crashites going to stay in the game, giving players a chance to find high-end military loot? A: As mentioned we want to redo all of the weapons in the game. We have less weapons but with more customization, attachments etc. For example you can have an AK with a fixed stock, skeleton stock, folding stock, grenade launcher, torch, laser, kobra sight etc. So there are more variations for people to swap between rather then two versions of the AK and two versions of the M4. Q: Will you be able to find these attachments? A: Yeh, we haven't decided on the spawn rates yet though, I imagine it would be fairly rare to find scopes but when you find those your weapon becomes more personalised. So there is more likely going to be less 50 calibre rifles and more bolt action, semi automatic rifles and handguns etc. As we said all the magazines now store information on then, so you could find an magazine with 2 bullets in it or you can empty bullets out of one. As to how far we go with that is something that we hasn't been finally decided. I'd like to see you be able to take every bullet out of a magazine except for one so someone can see the magazine, picks it up and then finds out there is only one bullet. We want to be fairly intuitive with that for example you can share 9mm bullets between guns that use the same calibre. Q: Will zombies be a real threat so you can't just hide in a bush and they disappear? A: It depends on what improvements we can make to the AI and how many zombies we can spawn in on the server so I'd say it's best to wait and see for that one.

    The world is quite large how it is, but I have to agree with Inception here, the map would be better if it were bigger. Running should stay as is, simply because it's a big part of the survival simulation and it does make you feel achieved if you do stumble across vehicles so I think increasing the default vehicle count is out of the question.

Please for the love of all that is Holy/Evil, make the vehicles allot tougher, and more maneuverable. I mean dirt and gravel roads slowing an off road truck down. One word, assholes. Love ya guys. :D As to the OP.... Are you kidding? Awe comon man, your just trolling right? Yeah, you must be just doing some sport trolling cause no one would be that upset about the 2012 jogging sim of the year. This thread needs a high jack into the "Ways to get around in Dayz recommendations" thread.

    Screw your cans and trail mix..... Root Beer and Lemonade don't make people quit Dayz... and if they do quit.... one less diaper to change... What about the tents? You guys really haven't been able to recreate ? Our server Admin removed all tents due to this dupin issue and won't reinstate until fixed (1.7.6.1 still broken ..i.. )... Had guys duping 50 satchels/gernades/backpaks/gunz/etc. in tents and collecting all the vehicles they could locate.... The server I play is listed below..... <_<

    Ground vehicles actually can't go much beyond 130 km/h, engine limitation. There are some mods with special ground values or boosters on the cars, though.

  23. Hey guys, im looking for a new Server Hoster. Im looking for a server where I can put more then 300 vehicles with max. 50 Slots without lag! My current Hoster ist Nitrado.net. but since i have more then 20 players on my server, the server starts to lag (as a co-driver in a car u drive through buildings and stuff). That really sucks! I heard Dayz.st is preety good? What do u guys say?

    Hear ... Hear ... I tend to agree. This is what makes the vehicles in DayZ a valuable asset to protect ... even bicycles and tractors. :) I protect my tractor with everything I can. Heheheheeh.
  25. Our servers are run by admins who dont play on the servers so they cant interfere with the players program you can check it out we also have lots of vehicles and a friendly community:)
