Why do you use 3rd person?

First off, CoD and Battlefield are for casual gamers. I think the people that get dizzy in CoD and BF are called "facebook gamers" or something worse. There are enough first person shooters on the market and even if the view was why they were popular, which is not the case in my opinion, it wouldn't matter because the scale of this game is much larger than the garden variety pew pew arena respawn deathmatch garbage found cluttering the market. And it's kind of late in the game to chance one of the most recognizable features of dayz, in my opinion. I guess Third Person is the new whipping boy now that a lot of the hacking has been reduced thanks to whitelisted servers. So now everyone wants to blame their deaths on the "exploitation" of the third person camera and not on their poor tactics or their poor choice of routes into locations. TP takes some getting used to and since there really isn't a campaign for DayZ, I strongly recommend everyone fire up Arma2 and play some missions or even the campaign until third person becomes second nature. Once you learn to use it effectively you can imagine how others are using it. It's more than just peaking around corners or going prone on top of some sniper nest in Cherno. You have to anticipate where players are likely to hide to get the best view of wherever you're trying to move to. Then you have to find a route to your destination while minimizing your exposure. That's harder than strafing side to side in first person or sprinting past a doorway with ALT held down until you think the coast is clear. I honestly don't see why you guys think the game is any easier when an opponent can spot you from just about anywhere. It's easier for them to spot you if you run around without thinking but not easier for them to approach you. If you're taking your time and not just running through Elektro trying to gear up as fast as you can then you'll likely have plenty of opportunities to spot any player trying to get the drop on you, short of sniper hill. Knowing other players are using third person also adds more tension as you never do know if you're being watched. Yes. Adapt. Forcing everyone into first person will make the game easier for the third person haters, and they know it. Reasons why FP view is awful: Framerates - if you're pushing 20 fps, cities and forests look like ass in FP. Third Person mitigates the noticeable stuttering and the game becomes playable. Arma/DayZ eats computers for lunch so only the best rigs, or random freaks of nature, are pulling smooth framerates in the cities and forests. Field of View - it's boinked. Sure, this could be improved quite a bit but I don't think the devs are too focused on this though. The design of some interiors - It's hard enough to squeeze through some doors in TP and I've been playing for months. I can't imagine there was a lot of reason to run around inside some of the buildings in Arma as much as we do in DayZ. They don't seem to be designed for the kind of use they're seeing. It won't solve the "cheap" deaths people experience - It'll make it worse as more people will find its easier to doorway camp. Vehicles - Some do not appear to be designed with FP view in mind. Try driving that V3S in FP or ride in the back of any of the cars. Not being able to see out the window I'm sitting next to is immersion breaking for me. Climbing ladders - This made me want to puke at 50 fps Reasons why FP view is awesome: Immersion - Despite it's flaws, it really does beef up the immersion and makes looting and navigating harder. Driving - It's fun to be the driver, even if you can't see. Zombies become a threat again (this one could easily be overcome with experience) Plays differently across the board. -
These ideas would make a lot of sense and actually, I have heard you could be able to add components on vehicles such as a tarp to keep it hidden so I wouldn't be surprised you could add some upgrades but the problem with that would be more weight being added to the vehicle making it run harder which could cause possible overheating and more gas consumed if those were major factors. Shooting out of the car was already addressed by Rocket, I have a quote here.. During the Expo for Day-Z, Rocket did a Q&A and one of them was about shooting out the car. Q(Audience Member): Playing through a large group of players and there's always a question that comes up through all of us is when were in vehicles like for instance when we found another group of people with vehicles and we get into a nice car chase and a time that it really ends is that someone screws up like crashing into a tree or a blockade but in the Standalone are you looking into implement shooting from vehicles like you're a driver sticking a pistol out the window or a friend going through the sunroof. Are you thinking of implementing things like that? A(Dean Hall; Rocket): Well I know with ArMA 2 there has been some community made mods and this is one of the -- Ordinary thing of ArMA 2 is that they have all these fantastic mods of which DayZ is just a small part. One of the mods shooting from vehicles; there are some real technical issues with it and I can't remember whether it was ever on the ArmA 3 list -- I'm not sure, I'll have to look at the press releases on that but it's not on the list of things to do at the moment but I think we want to look at vehicles a lot that'd require some code time to do it but it's definitely not on the list of things for the initial release. We just have to be realistic like the hacking and the duping. If we don't fix that, it doesn't matter how many awesome stuff we can put in. I think this is something we should look at once we fix the basic problems because I see vehicles at least until we get this uber player construction that we want done. Greetings, We have started a new Dayz Plus server. It contains added buildings and surprises all over the map as well as plenty of vehicles to run around in. We are looking for mature players, both bandit and survivors, to come play and enjoy the server. Admins are active and willing to help with any issues you may have. There's not many ideas that I have, but here they are. BUS: Having custom messages play on the screens that tell you where the bus is going. For example, "SURVIVORS" could be written, and the bus would play that on the route screens. OTHER VEHICLES: Cages on the windows. The newest update to DayZ made it so zombies can break your windows and damage your car. Upgrading your vehicle to have wire mesh, or cages behind the windows might help... SHOOTING FROM VEHICLES: Once in a blue moon you get the opportunity to have a car chase with a rival player. It's fun, but it's really just a bumper car match to destroy the opponents vehicle. However, smashing out your windows, whipping out an AK-74 and raining hell upon your opponent would be a lot cooler. Same goes with helicopters such as the littlebird, what if your passengers could shoot from the sides?

Reading the latest rocket chat interview by shannon, i even doubt that the standalone will be released this year lol. Q: Do you think we will see any kind of leveling for your character? A: We feel pretty strongly (definitely I do) that the levelling you do in DayZ is your gear, perhaps the different thing about DayZ is that.. I think Zero Punctuation put it very well when he said the great equalizer in DayZ is you can suddenly turn around and kill someone and take all their gear if you are lucky or skilled and it's not that you have won because you are a higher level. So I don't think we are ever going to have any type of levelling, we are always going to have this focus on the gear being your levelling and I think that's a really cool direction to go. I really want to see us develop more of the character side of it, that is our focus for the next few months, reinforcing the sense of character and beyond that we will look towards end-game content like customizable vehicles towards the middle of the year, stealing another cars bonet because you need a new one or want a different colour etc. At the moment the vehicle system will do exactly like it does in the mod just better performance but later on towards the middle of the year will be heavily customizable and then towards the end of the year providing the game has been successful we can start doing huge things like underground instanced construction. So if they are still working on the game mid year, i only see SA being released in 2014 to be honest.

So, I was randomly perma banned from this server... The reason? "hacking" I've only had the game a month I have no idea how to hack nor would I want to... the server was getting raped by hackers while I was playing and the admin "Maccy" decided to just ban me... So can I get an unban, or at least some evidence? I've never seen such admin abuse before I played on here, but maybe it was just the time of day or something so be wary people. Server deatz.... Hi DayZ Community, I would like to introduce you our Private Hive Server, which runs a customized version of DayZ. Server Settings Map: Chernarus 50 Slot Server Veteran 3rd Person: on Waypoints: on Crosshair: off Nametags: off GMT -5 Automated restarts every six hours (12:00 AM, 06:00 AM, 12:00 PM and 06:00 PM) Over 70 vehicles (You can find a list in our forum) Custom Mod Now you guys are probably wondering, what makes your custom Mod different to the regular DayZ? Well we revamped the loottables to make the game more survival-like. Weapons are rarer, food is much rarer, backpacks are rarer (having one is luxus). Stary Sobor now has its own loottables to make the loot of higher tier than the usual military loot (but not as high tier as the barracks). Before I write down everything, I think it is better to make a list about the most important features: New buildings added to make not interesting villages interesting Revamped the NW Airfield, NE Airfield and Green Mountain Added random military- and hospitalbases throughout the land of Chernarus HD textures for the Ghillie suit Unflip function for vehicles and bikes New temp, hunger, thirst, and blood icon You can drink on wells without the need of having a waterbottle Over 20 new lootable skins Over 30 new and balanced weapons The old bandit skin makes a return Completely removed all peripheral dots and included Zombies spawn at a much further distance so you cant tell from zombies that players are nearby Zombies and loot spawn although you're in a vehicle Barracks have a higher Chance of spawning weapons than generic loot New forces of nature (earthquake, snow, wind etc.) A custom Debug Monitor (Not a debug monitor anymore, it just shows your stats) Removed most of the trash etc from the roads And also we have added random zombiehordes, which are roaming through the woods and valleys of Chernarus. I have a little video of me stumbling upon a horde (a relatively small horde ;)), while testing the mod. It also shows the new weathereffects (wind, snow, dense fog (these are not the default settings, the weather is still dynamic)), which add a completely new atmosphere to the game. Also it shows the custom debug monitor and the new GUI icons. Notice how beautiful and scary DayZ can look like: Getting the mod and Installation If you are interested in playing this mod, all you have to do is download it here: Click! and unzip it into your Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead directory. Now if you have the DayZ Commander, just change the Dayz Directory in the settings from @dayZ to @sobchakZ and you're ready to play. Aren't you an OFP/ARMA veteran Dallas? It's kinda strange that you're implying it has been this way since day one with this game. It hasn't. Even DayZ at the beggining had plenty of full 1st person servers because unlike now 3rd person wasn't enabled on practically every server. Third person is popular because it is easier and allows people to peek around corners and over the walls without being seen. Just like 24/7 daylight or 1000 vehicles 100 choppers servers are getting more and more popular. If we were to go with what's most popular, DayZ standalone would be basically ARMA with some zombies thrown in. You're looking at it the wrong way around by saying the problem lies with empty 1st person servers IMO. DayZ mod would have gotten just as big even if there never was a 3rd person option. It's only now that everyone is used to it that removing it would be a problem. -
Hey! I have opened a server and it had been online for three days. I really want people to play on it, and so far nobody has joined it :l The map is Taviana (Dayztaviana.com) And we have active admins.. We have one swedish admin, one American and me wich is norwegian. We try to be on as much as possible. There is 300 vehicles, so if you look a bit you should have no problem in finding one.. several helicopters and planes scattered around the map. I've been kinda suspicious of Frankie for a while. I love his videos, but I feel that some of it scripted/fake. It's like it RAINS sniper rifles and vehicles wherever he is. Unless there's hours upon hours upon hours and hours of running around that he doesn't add to the video. Not to mention that he always gets corned by: Bandits with weapons. Bambi's with sniper rifles. Crash sites wherever he goes. Amazing strokes of luck every fifteen minutes. either he isn't legit, it's scripted (someone on the server is giving the shit to him, not necessarily un-ethically, either. Just donating their gear), or he's the luckiest person EVER. Either way, don't go into DayZ expecting to get the same shit Frankie does.

Hello, firstly this is my first night on my DayZ but I have played on my friends pc, not completley new but my first real experience (knowing that dying would lose my prpgress and not anothers) We began, I landed on the coast near the town of kamenka with an mp5, and some very generous starting gear. A gps issued by the commander and radio comms with my fellow squaddie led us to meeting in the town of Komoravo. The shock of the outbreak lay fresh so I felt delirious, my squad mate, pvt moose, had to go to the shop for some fags so we disconnected from reality but as I was about to leave, images of being transported far away (god damn hackers) filled my mind. I left this reality but came back round soon after and to my horror bodies litterd the floor. All my training preveiled and I took their supplys, their final sacrifice not being in vain. To my horror I turned to see a sniper also looting the bodies, his greed making him unaware of this vengeful soldier. I took his life (if he used a script I reasoned he might be the hacker as he was the only guy with good loot already) and his backpack (alice oh yeah) though in my haste I lost his ammo rendering his ammo useless. By now pvt moose had headed due north and we were to rendevous at pavlovo. The infected had gathered and xhased me across the hills and I have no shame admitting I felt fear. This was rapidly taken over by seething hatred when, upon checking my six, a man with a shotgun was amongst the army of zombies trailing me... He was close enough to call out, I could've helped but no, he stayed silent and I knew his assasin tendencys would emerge so I took anothers life. If only he said something I wouldve put my irons on the zombies but alas... Soon after pvt moose and I met, for hours we roamed to survive and managed to go through a few vehicles when disaster finally struck, we were all slipping from reality now (server reset) and me in my pickup had been splintered from moose and our new comrade dani, they in a 4x4, and the radio went crazy. Survivors! Alas they were vicious. I turned, racing to save my fallen but breathing comrade when I re connected to life, thinking I saw him i swerved to miss him but the crack of a rifle dismissed my presumptions. My tire was gone but I was alive so I ran to cover, I hid, curiously... I heard, the engine? No cars but my broken pickup. I took aim without thinking and confess not a thought crossed my mind but pulling the trigger, i aimed at the windscreen, 1, 2 and 3. There lay a dead body by my old car, i took his blood. Pvt moose then came to my rescue, sneaking by and taking the enemies vehicle to escape we rode away to saftey. My first run on dayz...

The problem with a chopper or any vehicle as storage occurs when you're not logged in. They are far more visible than tents (especially with peripheral dots active) and when someone takes your vehicle/chooper, there goes all your gear + your ride. Not unless its on a private hive with custom vehicles, no. -
Private or public, whenever I watch frankieonpc he always seems to find good loot, vehicles. Every time I play seem to spend all my time running. The one time I almost managed to get a car running I was on tire away from finnishing and I was respawnd back to coast the next time logged in. I only play on public servers because I like to be able to move around different servers, wat u all think?

This map is just awesome, and I hope more people will join and enjoy the map and the server with its custom scripts and vehicles.

1. The loot spawing is being fixed in the standalone, the problem was the engine was never deisigned to run a script like the loot spawing so once they have a dedicated engine it will work much better. 2. I don't think a code should be added because it kind of takes away from the realism. Also if a bandit sees you are unarmed then that could just mean he gets an easier kill so it may not deter people. I agree that there needs to be some sort of consequence for killing unarmed players and acting like a bandit, but it is difficult to decide on what it is. We will have to see what the deelopers come up with. 3. Realistically those weapons will not be removed from the mod as they do make it more fun at times to have a high powered weapon. The devs have done a good job of removing items such as thermal to make it a bit more balenced, but I agree that maybe the military loot needs to be reduced. However I also think that nobody will want to play a game where you run around killing zombies with hatchets and pistols as it isn't as exciting as blowing soemones head off with an as50. 4. Hackers are everywhere on the normal hive at the moment and it is really bad, but this will be reduced for the standalone. 5. If you want to filter the servers in a coherant way use dayz commander as you can filter specific settings that you prefer. Also in my opinion private hives have saved this mod. The hackes got very bad on the main hives to the point where the majority of servers were unplayable, the private hives have good communities of regular players and have more control over banning hackers and exploiters since there is almost always an active admin on, on the majority of these servers. I agree some privste servers are a bit non survivalish with more vehicles, military loot etc, but people like these servers so you can't say they are wrong. If you search the private hive section of the forum then you can find servers that are private but are just vanilla dayz on chernarus if thats what you want to play, but some of the new maps are pretty good. 6. I don't really know what happened there never experianced it myself. Maybe you logged in on different private hives? Anyway this is not a common problem as far as I'm aware so I don't really have any advice for you. Also I recommend checking out some the developer blog posts to see the new features that are being added for standalone which may interest you.

I don't exactly remember where rocket said that, I watched and read too many interviews the last few days, but he mentioned, that the Inventory system is currently in a development stage, where the functions are implemented, but the exact design of the UI isn't finished yet. He also said at various occasions, that they are going to implement some functions they believe to be extremely innovative and they don't want any speculations or people copying it, before it is released. Considering what he went through with WarZ, it is very understandable, that he is careful with what he says, promises and shows. And in a way, not knowing it in advance will increase the awesomeness we experience when we finally see it. ;-) Rocket said that's also important to him. They will start with those three, but more will follow. Also they want to allow customizable skins, so the community can import their own. He even wants players to be able to use their real faces if they want to. According to the interview yesterday, the development of the characters will be the main objective in the next month, before they tackle base building and vehicles. With always-spawned zombies comes the problem of entertaining them while noone is there. I could Imagine that some walkers just roam around the country, following distant lights or sounds they heard, while other zombies might just lie down and wait for something to move. I just hope, that they will respawn in locations, far away from players. Only few things as annoying as having a zombie coming out of nowhere right next to you... I would could imagine, that hordes of zombies coming into a town from all sides, because they heard shots would give a greater experience than always having to sneak into towns that are already fully infested with zombies. Those hordes could be, at random, filled up with a few more respawned zombies, increasing the overall zombie danger every time someone blindly shoots around a village, while it would favor those who keep a low profile and kill silently. The only fear I have is, that the gameplay wont be as balanced, so that groups as individuals and bandits as heros have equal chances to compete. But as I, like rocket, prefer the PvEnv component and the collecting over PvP aspects, I doubt that any inbalance in the standalone will be to my disadvantage.

I started playing Dayz again after not having played it for 6 months to see how it has been improved over the months and I definitely notice many improvements, but I also notice some things that could be improved (for the stand alone version). I am not going to type down all the good things, because they are obvious, better to type down feedback about things that could be improved (if thats possible). The loot spawning is still a bit glitchy. It happens sometimes that i access a building that should contain loot, but there is none. When I go back to the building 2 minutes later the loot has spawned. It is probably a trigger activation that checks if a player is present and activates to late (countdown). Maybe the trigger radius needs to be bigger or the countdown a bit shorter. You start now without any weapons and that is fine, but it's not so fine to get killed by bandits while you are unarmed. Maybe some code could be added that notifies the other player that the one he is aiming at is unarmed with a floating text or something. Or even better, that it is impossible to shoot someone that has no weapons (probably not possible). In the hours that I played I got spawn killed 2 times (again I was unarmed), by now everyone knows the spawn locations and some players abuse that. Maybe it's an idea to spawn the player in a bigger random radius of the spawn locations (markers) and not the exact spawn point location. As for the weapons I find it still a bit unbalanced. I am sneaking around with a hatchet and a pistol with 1 clip and I get blasted away by some dude with a grenade launcher. I rather see the available weapons more limited. No scoped weapons, no machine guns and semi/automatic rifles and no grenade launchers. It is totally not needed. For killing zombies basically the hatchet is enough or a pistol or a shotgun. In practice the heavy weapons are only being used against players that are often underpowered and that kills the fun. Save the heavy firepower for military mission/mods. I mean with a M249 I can pawn everyone too if they only have a pistol, it's a bit lame. Also in the hours I played I got teleported by some hacker (or an admin abusing his tools) that had a shitload of weapons and ammo on the ground. I also had my character with good loot at a remote location, when I logged in I got shot within 30 seconds after logging in by a hacker that teleported to my location. Overall battleye and other anti hack scripts takes care of most of them, it's not as bad as it was last time I played it. The server list is a mess, there are tons of different named server and private hives mingled in the server list. Would be an improvement if all the servers are logically named or at least that server name starts with private or public, game difficulty and timezone. As for the private hives, I don't like it. I login to servers that are a mod of a mod. The private hives I tried are very unbalanced and *fs up the setup and intentions of the Dayz devs. You start with an overkill of weapons and a map, there are way to many vehicles. Again the ' lame factor', it's lame that there are heavy duty gunships and SU-25's and stuff, not really post apocalyptic imo. And last, it happened a few times that I logged in and all my loot was gone, but I did spawn at the place where I last logged of. It was really a bummer to have the whole inventory gone that took me hours of looting and sneaking around to get. I also had a couple of times that I logged in and had to create a new character while my old character did not die, my progress was apparently not saved. It would help to get some confirmation if my progress is saved before I decide to logoff. Dayz is a fun mod and it gets better and better while the Devs keep working on it. Considering that ArmA is not designed to be a zombie game it is pretty impressive of what it has become and it contains some very smart scripting so cudo's to the devs!

Private Hive vehicles not spawning (no mods just plain original dayz)

Ok so when I launch my server I've searched EVERYWHERE and there is only 2 vehicles that we have found all the others arent there and I had just launched my server/created it. we have not edited any of the files this is just for LAN gameplay private hive. Why arent the vehicles spawning? We only found a ATV and a huey. I am unable to find a civilian ural or a UAZ or a military offroad. What can I do to fix this? Does restarting the server make vehicles move spawn points? -
