    how to handle property - the issue when being offline

    well i think it is ok for vehicles as it is now. i don't want ppl to get confused over two things: losing your stuff when online and losing your stuff when offline. When online, yeah it's pretty damn much your own fault, you should have watched out for your stuff, deal with it. When offline - and there is no IRL-equivalence -, you have no chance to defend and no chance to react. Now there comes another thing into play: effort Yeah sometimes you have to make huge efforts in repairing a car to get it going, but most of the time these efforts are kept somehow at a tolerable level. This is also the reason why ppl are annoyed, when they login and see that their car has gone, but well they can live with it. When we talk about bases - not just hideouts - why would someone invest so much time and make immense efforts when everything could be gone just by the next login... Maybe this also raises the question, what is the common opinion about how "bases" should be defined? What should be the significant differences to "hideouts" If we regard "bases" merely as hideout-esque constructions, with no huge efforts to build/raise, well then maybe this whole thread could be pointless, because then imo, the existing mechanism should be enough..

    We shouldn't be able to loot our own bodies nor have access to past lives gear stored in tents/vehicles ect. Are we not supposed to be dead and starting a new life? Keep the name, not the gear.

    How to choose a good server?

    try mine, myself, other admins/regulars make it little missions to completely destroy badly damaged vehicles and then I run the create vehicle script in control panel so more vehicles spawn on restart
  6. The AI are amazing. I haven't seen anything like them yet. It has an incredible survivor feeling, but it's not post apocalypse, it seems more like, during the outbreak. Dogs are cool and will even jump in your vehicles with you. Definitely my new favorite server.
  7. Before I get into the actual best feeling, let me start from the beggining. So for the first time in about a week or so, i decided to hop on Dayz for about an hour. I was egar to get some quick action so i found a server with 48 players on it and hoped right in. When I spawned in, i ended up near balota and i was also about 100m from another survivor. Being the friendly person that I am, I talked to him a little and asked him where he was going. He said that he was headed to the airfield. I told him that I was too but I wanted to check an industrial area nearby. I head off to the industrial area and I don' find too much. Now, my thirst indicator was getting a tad bit low and I was in need of a weapon so i hurried over to the airfield. To my surprise, I see not one, but two Hueys! On top of that, I see a SUV. The SUV, from what I could see, only had a tire or two missing! Seconds later I hear gun shots and the same person that I had spoken too before appeared in the death chat. This worried me. Did he get KoSed? Was he noob and not know how to handle zombies? Either way, I stayed put for about a few minutes. That is when I saw a guy messing around with one of the hueys. I wasn't sure if he was repairing it, or was just adding fuel. I thought that he may take off but eventually he just ran off. After he had ran off, I decided that I would take my chances and see what I could find. I first headed to the hangers and the air control tower. I found some drinks and an AKM. The AKM only had one mag with it and that had to be used to save my hide from zombies. I then found an M1014 and decided to take that. After losing a lot of blood and patching myself up, I ran over to the industrial part of the airfield. Upon entering one of the industrial buildings, I encoutered another survivor. I asked him if he was friendly. He didn't say anything, but he leaned left and right. I guess that was him trying to tell me that he was friendly. I let him be and checked the 2nd warehouse. In their I found two tires. Immediatly, I remembered the SUV and picked up one of the tires. If needed, I would be able to come back and get the other one. Trying to repair the SUV was pretty tough. Everytime I got near the darn thing, the zombies ran me off as if they were the protectors of the SUV. After a few tries I had a clear shot at the SUV and was able to fix one tire. Fifteen minutes later and I had the second one on. I quickly hoped in, not evening knowing if it had gas. Thankfully, It had a quater of a tank. As it started to drive, I got a huge grin on my face. This was the first time I had ever fixed up a car and driven it off. It was truly, the best feeling I have ever had in DayZ. For those of you who are still reading, I ended up refulling at a gas station, and headed up north. I eneded up stumbling into someone out in the middle of nowhere. He shot at me but the good'ol SUV took it like a champ. I drove off in fear and ended up hiding it and logging off. I want to also add that this was on a private hive with 500+ vehicles and other sorts of various tweaks. I know that what I did was really not that impressive but for me, It was almost an achievment of sorts. Hopefully when I log back in it will be there tomorrow. I won't be upset if its not. I honestly don't expect it to be. So tell me everyone, what was the best feeling you have ever had in dayz? Thanks for reading :) P.S. - It is 1:00 as I am writing this so I apologize for grammatical errors or just a lack of good writing. I am tired but this is an awesome expereience that I needed to share!

    Banding together

    I think that maybe something cool to include in the game would be the ability to band together and fortify a set area to make it safe assign watches "repair" buildings making them "livable" so people can store goods in a safe place and have a place to build vehicles and such. This would be really cool plus add to that "End of the World" feel needing people's help to survive and build towards a common goal, I was watching the walking dead last night and a man was walking on the road begging for help but they ignored him and i thought to myself what are you surviving for? To what end? Is it to just be alive or perhaps restart civilization? That is something that I think is to the core of survival. Maybe add a party system that ranks people re building the town or fortifying the castle as "founders" and only a vote between the leaders will allow entrance of new comers and maybe allowing the founders to set rules for their camps such as weapons are stored at the entrance and automatically re acquired when you leave or people are allowed to just do as they please shoot each other steal things, though evil or un favorable acts wouldn't go without some sort of negative or positive effect. I really think something like this will encourage more partying up and surviving together in the end of the world. You could also have bandit camps too for those who would live like outlaws at the end of the world and a raiding type aspect if people are in need of resources and decide to either band together or fight it out maybe also add some kind of construction type interaction with players to say build a system to transport fresh water to the camp get electricity going again. Things like that. Hope to see some of these ideas come to fruition. I LOVE DAYz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Hello all, Back Story The 32nd Canadian Brigade was deployed to Chernarus before the outbreak. They were there to assist in evac-ing citizens and assisting the local militia in holding off the infected. After the country was over-run the 32nd lost contact with their HQ and were effectively cut off. After two days of working their way back to the designated extraction point the came upon what was left of their helicopters and crew... the latter were left shambling around the smoldering wrecks and strewn about supplies. The unit, now much smaller began searching for other living people, only the be attacked every time they came within sight of anyone. After loosing many men to the locals that they were only a week ago trying to save, the men turned bitter, resentful. They no longer care about assisting survivors, they don't even care about wiping out the bandit menace... all they care about is each other and keeping each other safe. Information This squad is a role playing squad. Though the game world around us may not be in a roleplaying state, we are to remain in character as much as possible. You are to treat the game state as an actual real life situation. Example, if you would not run into a horde of zombies with a hatchet in real life, don't do it in game. Objective - Avoid major cities at all costs - Secure food and drinkable items - Secure ammunition and weapons - Avoid contact with citizens when possible, treat as hostile unless otherwise proven - Avoid contact with bandits when possible, treat as hostile at all times - Secure a safe location to deposit supplies and vehicles - Remain under the radar, do not draw any attention - The safety of your squad members are your top priority Squad Requirements - Must be 18+ - Must be mature - Must be able to follow orders - Must remain in role play as much as possible - Must be a member of the squad forum (when set up) Squad Recommendations - Microphone - Add each member on steam - Be active at least twice a week

  14. Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Server has just been launched. IP: 5.153.13.115 Port: 3068 Website: www.BGUS.co.uk BGUS Ventrilo IP: 85.236.100.69:4134 It operates on a private Hive with over 100 vehicles in it. There are additional spawnpoints for vehicles aswell as new vehicles previously not available on the chernarus map. The server is administrated by several fair & trustworthy admins, striveing for a fun & fair environment for all to play in. Currently the server is operating on always daylight mode but once we have our website up and running will be adding schedualed periods of night time to add variety to the gameplay on our server. Third Person, Crosshairs & Death Messages are all on the server. Vehicles We have completely re-created the vehicle spawn points on our server, there are around 250 actual places that a vehicle can spawn but each has a very small chance of actualy spawning a vehicle. This is to try and get players to explore more of the map to find hidden treasures, such as military grade vehicles etc. In the future we are looking to organise events on the server aswell as scenarios to keep things interesting. We welcome players oh all sorts, be it Bambis, Carbears ,Bandits or Clans. All are welcome as long as they follow these simple rules: Rules: 1. No hacking/cheating/glitching 2. No keeping vehicles or tents outside the map (They will be deleted without warning) 3. No Racism or overtly abussive chat 4. No Spamming 5.     NPC's, maybe military patrols that are hostile to both players and zeds. They would be extremely hard to take down but the rewards would consist of military grade weapons and vehicles. You could sneak into military bases and rob them or lure a zombie train into a base to cause a chaotic breakdown.
  17. My brother and I have recently started a server and you are more then welcome to come and play on it if you would like. We do have some changes to the normal DayZ Chernarus map like more buildings, vehicles, etc. But we are very strict on hackers.

    An easy way to build bases

    @ Chabowski.. Ok... deconstructing barricades, fences and stuff and then using it somewhere else to fortify a camp sounds of course a lot better than using crappy barbed wire and tank traps. But for me this would still be a temporary camp and not a real base. Building a base that is not safe (at least for some time) is just a waste of time. I am also still pretty sure that your construction mechanics would be used a lot for trolling. Predefined camps like decribed in my op would (also) cause no server lags but would povide a relative safe place for your gear (vehicles) even when being offline. This camps could be attacked and overtaken though or would be automatically abandonned if there is no player activity noticed by the game for a longer time period.There would be no chance for camping, trolling and placing barricades at stupid locations all over the map just for fun ! Beside this, predefined bases would mean having some extra hot spots and provide immersive locations for rollplaying. If not used, this places would be just normal locations spwaning loot and zombies. But as always this is a matter of personal taste and preferencies :) cheers :beans:

    This. If not that, I would love to see the list of toolbelt items expanded and improved so they are more than a single purpose item. The ability to mark on my own unique map for example. Say I loot a map from a Supermarket, and find a tent as well. After I set my tent up and stash my beans, I can mark the locaiton on my map. I'm the only one that can see it, the markings aren't global like they are in the mod. After I stash my beans and bullets, lets say I take a run through Elektro looking for an ALICE pack to replace my crappy patrol pack. With predictable results, I am killed. The player who loots my body - and obtains my map, can see the markings I have made on it once it is in his possession and in his toolbelt. There are quite a few common items like the map example that can have a lot more functionality, and I'd like to see them worked on. Radios with programmable frequencies that players can use to communicate via VOIP with any radio on that frequency, and what happens when it's looted from my body in Elektro along with my map? Match boxes that deplete after a number of uses The entrenching tool should be able to be equipped like a hatchet or crowbar, and used to bash heads (or bury your trash, extinguished campfires, or even your poop if the rumors are true). New tools could be introduced as well. Flint and steel for use starting fires as long as it isn't raining , and does not deplete with use like matches. A mess kit as both an alternative to using a tin can to boil water, and to cook healthier food for better benefit. An anemometer for measuring wind speed and direction (see quoted post). Water purification tablets for those players who haven't found everything needed to boil water, or those who simply don't want to risk starting a campfire. These should also deplete with use. Weapon cleaning kits to help prevent weapon deterioration. Several types of toolkits. Small tools for repairing weapons and adding attachments. Large toolkits for repairing or stripping vehicles. You get the idea I hope.
  20. Whitelist: Whitelisting is something i will most assuredly do when the community has been built. The server is very new (2 weeks) and has a active playerbase of around 20 people, usually playing at different times throughout the day. We had one hacker attack so far, and lasted about 2 minutes before he was banned and server rolled back. Well, you suggested you like basic dayz, and while my hive is definitely not basic, i have not made it anymore CRAZY. And what i mean by that is i don't: Have you start out with a DMR, in fact your starting gear you have basic DayZ loadout I didn't add 500 barracks around the map. I balanced the game with mods that i thought were useful and fun, or expanded the fun of the game entirely, and even balanced things out. These are some of the things i have added that should have been in DayZ from the start, and what i think attracts vanilla dayz players -Extract Parts From Vehicles ~ The ability to remove parts from working vehicles with a toolbox, works well with no problems, and adds realism. -HALO Jumps ~ adds a feature that lets you free fall from helis/planes/etc - IE Choose when you open your parachute + Controllable parachute (video on dayz thread) -Custom Buildings added as follows: NE Airfied - Barracks, Firehouse (this should make NE contestable with NW instead of people ignoring NE and going right for NW). Firehouse and Market to Kamenka - Only way to make that spawn not completely horrible and retarded :) -1 Custom City - Firestation, market, hospital -Ambient shelters around the map (hidden "bases" so to say that can be used as temp storage, there are not many of these) -Gun Store - This is kind of different: i run a gun store (admin ran) on Klen Hill, and has working gates that enable admins to buy weapons and vehicles from players, players than can use the money, or credits they get from selling to buy something bigger/more. Most overpowered guns are "not for sale" and must be found in game) -Auto Refuel at gas stations -Custom Osprey (Cool, fast, not overpowered, no guns, plane) -Heli Lift/Tow Scripts -Crashes (Plane, Truck, Heli, More) -100-150 Vehicles There's a lot more features but they are all listed and described on the main thread, we also have a community website (aowdayz.com) and would love your community :) try us out! http://dayzmod.com/f...stom-buildings/

    Vehicle repair?

    Keep in mind that there's been bugs involving the vehicle "eating" your part and not actually repairing the piece you replaced. Rumor has it that vehicles have trouble syncing with the server, so getting in and getting out or shooting the vehicle each time before you attempt to repair it "should" sync it back up.

    They all have their drawbacks. Island with snipers in the lighthouse, you'd be able to see any boats or choppers approaching your base, but the snipers/watch would be up in a tower and vulnerable to anyone with a rifle along the visible coastline. I'd have a .50 sniper and machine gunner up in the lighthouse, and a sniper on the hill in communication with the lighthouse team. They get taken out he gets anti sniper duty. Grasslands, bit too open to really be of any use. Not to mention lack of cover. Don't plan on holding onto any vehicles or tents. Forest has its merits, depending on where you set up you can have either a lot of cover, or a lot of blindspots. Keep in mind that choppers are your enemies in this situation. Especially if your on a sever that spawns lots of them.

    I would also like feedback. I get around 30 views per DayZ video I produce, but I rarely get any comments, and that really bothers me. Youtube analytics (as inn accurate as they are) say I've got a 70%+ audiance retention rate, which means my videos are watched to the end most of the time, but no feedback/suggestions/anything!   24. Private servers should be able to enable/disable PvP, individual weapons/vehicles, certain equipment types, and in general have better control over their own server-it's private for a reason! Imagine if you could take all of Chernarus, disable vehicles, block in Cherno/Elektro/ the 2 nearby towns, and put 10 people on the map with no gear. It'd be a fight to the finish, avoiding zombies and players while you scavenge loot. That would be a nice break/shooting practice from normal DayZ. I also want to see singleplayer DayZ, but with some sort of obvious marker to show that it isn't online so you can't lie and say, "Oh, I killed 57 players!" on youtube like a dirty liar. I also want to see controls over the amount of player interaction, namely, disabling/enabling radios/radio frequencies so two teammates can communicate cross-map, but ONLY if they had the walkie-talkies necessary. Servers could control the distance of the walkie-talkies, too, and make ones built into helicopters more powerful or around transceivers improve the signal strength (imagine trying to talk to your friend when he can't respond). You could disable AMRs or enable rocket-launchers. You could give zombies x4 health and x10 running speed, or x.5 health and x.5 running speed (to make them more movie like). You could enable a giant-ass horde to spawn on the edge of the map and slowly walk to the other side. :)

One of you server admins, take a look at gbwireworld and take some notes, servers dont need 200+ vehicles, chernarus only needs 40-50 vehicles on the map at all times, you don't need 24/7 daylight, take out the op 50. cal snipers, But for the love of god do one thing they have never done, GET anti-hacks, so when accusations go flying all over the place of "hackers", Good players that are legit wont get banned, and have a good server pulled out from underneath them.
