DayZ Devblog 4th February 2013

In Fallout or the Elder Scrolls games (same engine) you can not really open chests, boxes,or cupboards and take stuff out, you activate a so called "container" which opens a pop up menue and an attached loot table. In this games this is mixed with handplaced loot that you can find in the gameworld ( on tables etc etc). It is nothing more than a script that can be used for any kind of static object like furnitures, dead bodies, vehicles, barrels blablabla.... Good thing, the player can also put stuff in such a container. Also locks and keys can be attached. For example if our DayZ fridge would be used as such a container, all fridges placed in Chernarus would use the same loot table .This could include the chance of finding nothing, all kind of rotten stuff but also a can of pepsi etc...could also be used for cupboards, trash bins etc. Would the same system work for DayZ or would it be an immersion breaker ?? thoughts ? -
Starting New Squad | Private Hive + Whitelist
Whiskey_Tango (DayZ) posted a topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
As the DayZ_Unleashed server continues to become more and more active again as the weeks go on, I have been stockpiling a lot of resources to accommodate a squad I have been planning to form. I am still unsure whether this squad will be heroic or cruel, but I do know that survival and proper techniques will be a main focus as we strive to dominate the server. If you are interested in helping me out, I will gladly help you out as well with my stockpiled items to give you a jump start on our server. Are you a lone wolf desperately looking for someone to team up with and watch you back? Are you a Walking Dead fan who would enjoy surviving just like the show? If you are a mature being and have some actual PvP or military experience, I especially invite you to share your knowledge and create something on the DayZ_Unleashed server! Anyone is welcome though. I'd love to help young bambi's find their place. You may respond here or PM. Server Info: You can also come and visit our website at http://dayz.vrocker-hosting.co.uk where you will find our forums, whitelist applications and stats/leaderboards. Server Features We are one the few remaining vanilla servers (non-modded servers) Active admins that are keeping an eye on the server, even from IRC Plenty of vehicles to go around Automatic backup of our hive every hour We are more about the actual survival aspect of DayZ rather than anything else, hence we have actually increased/doubled the zombie count to what you would normally find on other servers A steadily growing mature community with all admins being over the age of 20 Two dedicated servers, one for the DayZ server it's self and one for our Unleashed Hive The resources to maintain a 100 player slot server Custom wrecks, find farm/residential/industrial loot at various different wrecks scattered around the map Veteran difficulty, the only changes that we have are that 3rd person, crosshairs and waypoints are active No extra starting gear, you get the default DayZ loadout and then thats it, you have to go find the rest of it The only server that is hooked up to an IRC Echo, allowing players to talk to in-game players even when they aren't themselves The simplest Whitelist method that is currently known in DayZ, helping to keep the hackers away and promote a fun and fair server for everyone Server-side fixes from the next DayZ version which fixes bugs such as being able to publish invalid objects to the database Those are just some of the reason you should come and check us out, but come and see for yourself what the server is like, you won't regret it! Whitelist Applications If you wish to apply to our whitelist fill out this simple form at http://dayz.frak.eu/whitelist/ - any applications will be accepted within 24 hours of the form being submitted. Hope to see some of you in-game soon! -
DayZ: Most Private Hives Are Not Real DayZ

Weapons on spawn? Millions of vehicles on the map? Both of these are bad, but there's one thing I really dislike in a server; constant bloody daytime. Why would anyone want to spend all their time in daylight? It boggles my mind (I love DayZ at night). Strictly Vanilla here. Love it. -

I understand the viewpoint of there are many servers for many different varieties of game play. I don't actually have a problem as long as servers are properly described so i know which ones to play and which ones to avoid. I just wonder, if Rocket was still pumping out updates for the mod, as in had total control like he used to, would we be seeing all these differences in spawns, loot and vehicles? Does he look at some of these servers and think "They are completely missing the point!" Who knows? But, hey, it doesn't really matter and i ain't going to lose sleep over it. -
New concept for Server System [DayZ Standalone]
SmashT replied to Ernst's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I hope not, I'd rather we didn't see the game having fifty different modes for every possible playstyle that exists, that's one of my biggest gripes with the mod - every server has modified loot, starting loadouts, extra vehicles, 24 hour daylight etc so that's the last thing I want to see happen with the standalone. -
New concept for Server System [DayZ Standalone]
logan23 replied to Ernst's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I was wondering if The Servers for DayZ could be broken up further as- No 3rd person option- Hardcore (this server would be the same as the normal but the loot spawns altered(think DayZ 2017), Zombie change in(HP or Damage), all vehicles need to be fix multiple parts) No 3rd person option-Normal (This one would have vehicles which might need 1 or two things to get it running- making easier for players to fix and drive vehicles) Yes 3rd person option- Hardcore (this server would be the same as the normal but the loot spawns altered(think DayZ 2017), Zombie change in(HP or Damage), all vehicles need to be fix multiple parts) Yes 3rd person option-Normal (This one would have vehicles which might need 1 or two things to get it running- making easier for players to fix and drive vehicles) As you stated this would mean any character created on any of these server types can only jump to a server that matches the same Server type. I also just wanted to ask- do you think we will also have break up of Servers with 24hrs cycle and a server with a (4-8 hr) cycle? So there would be two time cycles. I'm just tossing out there since I can't see how they can keep the 24hr day cycle since you want players to experience all of DayZ not a faction. (This is going on the assumption that the whole Night issue/to dark is resolved so players enjoy dark night time more) -
So I have been wondering lately while playing Dayz that how many days, weeks, months or years has it been since the zombie outbreak happened? I see debris in the roads and rusted vehicles but are they rusted from fire or exposure to natural elements over time? Bottom line I just want to know how long the zombie virus has been about as we enter the game. :)

I am one of the VERY active admins on this server and a few things we are working on as well are : - As stated above we do play at night and the coastal towns will now have new light sources. - Walks through the woods will now have zombie encounters in select locations. - Some of the towns have/are being upgraded. ( New stores, hospital, residential and Military) - There is a new city being constructed. - More zombies in High Value Loot locations - Vehicles are added to shore (Broken) as they are depleted and needed. - Groups who decide to make a camp on our server and become regulars will get a custom camp upon request (Walls with one opening for vehicles + Light sources) And we are currently working on unlocking all skins so groups can have a custom skin load out to match.

DayZ: Most Private Hives Are Not Real DayZ

This topic has always been a mystery to me. I can kind of see it from the "just screwing around" view. I used to play a lot of Project Reality a BF2 mod. Anyway, a few versions ago they had a training map mode. Which totally throws out the legnthy spawn times and other restrictions applied to the regular game mode. Then added a crap load of vehicles. It was fun, really fun. All of a sudden these vehicles I'd been respecting and treating like gold for so many months became disposable and dieing didn't really matter as much. But, it was a very shallow experience. I enjoy flying the helicopters & doing infantry anti-air in that game so I spent a great deal of time "training" in that map. What I found was a lot of people who didn't actually play the real game. I would ask them to go to a real server and they wouldn't want to. The pressure or fear or whatever made them uncomfortable and at the end of the day gaming is about having fun. They wanted the realism of the environment & vehicles and harshness of the combat, but they wanted it watered down so it wasn't punishing and nobody was counting on them to do well or be intelligent. It's a video game, they wanted to screw around and blow shit up. Luckily for purists like me, Project Reality strictly enforced their vanilla settings and didn't allow modification without a password on the server. I was not a happy camper back when Rocket started supporting private hives. Those fucking hackers ruined everything. -
Everyone seemed to be excited about this update. I have played it and it is actually horrible. The zombies are more glitchy, I had 4 different tents dissapear after setting them up, there were no crash sites or vehicles anywhere to be found. I died a dozen times in one day. I played on a lot of different servers with this update and they are all horrible. I finally found a server with the old 1.7.4.4. and its way better. If all the servers were on the 1.7.5.1 , I would never play this game again. Its that bad. After you drink your soda or eat canned food, the tin stays in your inventory... its really annoying and i would prefer it dissapearing like it used to instead of having to go through and manually drop it.

DayZ: Most Private Hives Are Not Real DayZ

My favorite servers have been the ZUST hive where they have bikes at the remote spawn points, 300 working vehicles (with weapons) scattered about and a couple helos at each of the air bases. It's just enough vehicles that you can typically find one when you need it but don't want to be too careless with them. It really makes the roads a dangerous place to be. I've had more than my fair share of Mad Max bandit encounters. -

I joined a server the other day that was only titled - Private server Australia. It seemed to have a bit of population so I decided to have a look into it. Spawned with a G17 and some other stuff and running into Elektro I instantly find the Russian transport heli full fuel and all green. After some inspection from the air there were many many vehicles and also these odd looking structures that look somewhat like the bases you find in wasteland and inside them was tons of vehicles and tents. An automated message came up every few minutes saying that anybody found inside of "admin bases" will be assumed hacking and will be banned. I later learnt that nobody was actually playing on the "Game map" and they were actually holding some kind of pvp competition in another instance of the world or some shit. After finding a fresh spawn to give the chopper to I logged off. Edit: I also forgot to mention there were several other automated admin messages stating that admins were allowed to tp to players and use godmode "because of hackers". -

Server: 173.192.200.126:3170 WakeupDeadClan DayZChernarus - [100+ Vehicles] [Custom Buildings] [Debug Monitor] [starting Gear] [REGULAR NP:OFF][GMT+12] (1.7.5.1/101480) | DayZ.ST 7 DayZ Chernarus on chernarus Before I go ahead and start, I'd like to say that if I've posted this in the wrong section apologies as I didn't see anywhere else fit to post. Anyways, I was playing on this server for a few hours when about 30-60 minutes ago (preceding the ban) I happen to notice a helicopter crash near a small town just South of the airfield with a few bodies around it. After scouting the area and figuring that the players most likely died from the crash I proceeded to loot their bodies. Upon looting the bodies I found a few guns, one of them I believe was an M4 and a Scar, as well as a few miscellaneous supplies. After looting the bodies, I noticed that there were some military tents towards the town not too far from the helicopter crash. As I started to head towards the tents a zombie started chasing me so I turned around and started heading back to the helicopter before getting kicked for some script related reason. I figured it was a bug so I proceeded to log in, roughly 30-60 seconds after logging in I was banned for something along the lines of item duplication/spawning. Firstly, I just started playing DayZ and ArmA 2 for the first time Monday (02/04/13) and still don't know a lot about the game, nor how to get/use hacks. For verification, check my library on my Steam account (xcs14x) and it will show that it was purchased a few days prior, which was in anticipation for receiving my new graphics card. Secondly, I had been playing on that server for a few hours, had decent loot before stumbling upon what I picked up at the heli crash, and had absolutely no reason to duplicate/spawn items or whatever I was banned for. I was really enjoying the server, in fact it was the first server that I managed to stay on for a few hours without getting bored and would hate to not be able to play for a misunderstanding/false ban. I'm posting this in hopes that this can be looked into and resolved. I did not happen to find a site for the clan so I posted this here. Any help appreciated. ~ CS14 ------------------------- UPDATE Have some screenshots from when I found the loot on the bodies (you can see the body if you look closely at the pictures) http://imgur.com/ycYM3ZO http://imgur.com/wleUxQS http://imgur.com/IllnowD http://imgur.com/IllnowD

DayZ: Most Private Hives Are Not Real DayZ

I played "vanilla" DayZ for a long time, and I enjoyed the hell out of it. Recently I started playing Taviana, and the only server I get decent ping and don't lag like hell on starts you off with some food, a hunting knife, and a map/compass. I've noticed that if you die and respawn, sometimes (maybe all the time, dunno) you respawn with a Makarov, ammo, a tent, and the aforementioned items. This isn't a huge deal breaker for me, as the server is still fun and there are lots of loots still to find. I suppose if I spawned with a Coyote pack, DMR, and 5 mags that might take some of the fun out of it, but I don't disparaige those that enjoy those servers for their own reasons. As far as vehicle spawns, I could take it or leave it. I'm not a huge fan of vehicles, though I will ride a bike from time to time, for novelty sake. I feel that a vehicle makes me a target to other players, since I often use it to my advantage when targeting others. At the end of the day, it IS a personal taste thing. I love that about the mod, it allows for some variety. Where I would draw the line between what is "Real" DayZ and what isn't, I don't really know. -

I like 1000 vehicle servers because zombies wouldn't eat all the vehicles along with humans :) Although i'd like to spawn with nothing and loot should still be rare. However, and I know this was probably suggested before, there should be keys on zombies or in houses that go to random cars with condition that may be questionable. Think about it, all the cars would be so close within reach, yet so far because those keys could go to any car :) -

Fairly simple answers; | It's always fun to mess around with DayZ(ed) & just enjoy the Game. However, most people don't particularly enjoy the long walking trek's and so on, with this and the limited Vehicles in 'Regular DayZ(ed)' it become's more a chore to play. Yes, people (..myself included) don't mind the long hour's spent walking aimlessly too some extent. Yes, people still love the core feature's of DayZ(ed) and it's unmatched in the current Zombie-Survival MMO Genre. But, don't attempt to sugar-coat it with the usual / pretentious ''That's DayZ, bro'', It begins to get.. frankly, boring after long night's of walking.. and walking.. and walking. These Servers, as said, are strictly Private Hive. People needn't worry about loosing Data, which lead's to a lot of enhanced aspect's such as people tend to be more willing to be Friendly, due to there being little to loose. While it detract's from what some consider DayZ, it add's a lot for a lot of people. Side note : DayZ at the current state is a Modification of a Game. Rocket created it to Modify what others considered their baby, no? Rocket himself has embraced the Modification community, a sense of 'The more the Merrier' deal. If you enjoy something different, yet enjoy the core concept's, you can easily modify. From the starting load-out, to the amount of Loot. Sorry to get a little hipster here, but: The original DayZ(ed) had you spawn with a Revolver & Ammunition. Then, it was degraded to a Makarov. Finally, to nothing at all. If anything, spawning with a weapon is closer to the original & real DayZ(ed) then not. -

I am bit 50/50 on the vehicles. I understand that they would be common IRL but the idea of there being 7-10 vehicles per person in a game like DayZ seems to belittle the game. A vehicle should be a goal to attain. It just seems too easy on some servers. Bicycles though - yeah they should be a bit more common. -

As to vehicle rareness, I'd say that was at least in part because of the safety against zombie they represent. Now that that's slowly fading, vanilla might deserve a few more vehicle spawns. And guess what? They added 2 vehicles. -

Those servers are good for: 1. Beginners. They can familiarize themselves with weapons, vehicles, etc. 2. Practice. If you want to find out how good a certain gun is at killing zeds, go into a server where you spawn with it. 3. Fun. Just go on there and have ATV rallies or something. Then, when you feel like playing the real experience, join the plethora of harder servers and get your surviving on. -

It's always good to have a mess around server. When you're tired of regular DayZ, and just want to have some fun, then you can join a server with 500 vehicles and one that spawns you with AS50's and just run around and fuck around. This game messes with your head sometimes, and you always need somewhere to relax And I'm jealous of that beard :) -

Not ignoring the good of the update. Stagnation is bad for the game, and quite frankly zombies have been a joke in the past version. I highly welcome anything that makes them more challenging as a force of nature and an adversary. Here's what I personally have a problem with in this newest version, just because you asked (don't want to feed the same old same old in every other thread just to annoy people): 1.) Giving zombies the ability to attack vehicles was prematurely released considering remaining bugs with it's implementation and the existing vehicle system, namely: - when zombies attack a car and when they dont seems deliberate, sometimes they ignore a stationary vehicle filled with players, otherwise they happily swing at a car going 120km/h that should be running them over - an enclosed vehicle is, as per patch notes, supposed to be safe until the car's windows get smashed in by the zombies, then they start hitting you. this is currently bugged and they can just hit you right away if they want to - helicopters don't have a working fuel tank, as soon as a window gets smashed in the fuel starts to leak. that should simply be fixed 2.) Endless waves of zombies. This one's the biggie, even those who write love poems to the latest patch find it questionable: - whether it's a recent change in the actual spawning behavior or just a result of increased aggro - something that i support, mind you -, it breaks immersion to the point of being ridiculous. having a horde of zombies come at you is fun. using all your resources to dispatch them just to see them respawn at 20m distance pretty much instantly isn't. - if it's a recent change, tweak it to a sensible point, if it's a result of a heightened aggro range due to zed-to-zed communication, add a respawn cooldown of 30-60 seconds. - whether the changed aggro is fine or has glitches aswell remains to be seen and is hard to gauge by players' experiences and their portrayals 3.) Logout countdown: - Not talking about the improved combat lock, that thing is fine - However, even if you just spawned a second ago on a server and havent even had the time to blink your eyes yet, when you hit escape to get to the menu, you have to wait for a countdown to go from 30 down to 1, mind you each step taking 2~3 seconds, before you can actually click Abort. Again, just so we're clear, not tied into combat locking, it's just there so you can't log out as soon as you see someone else but nothing worthy of combat lock has happened yet. A ~1 minute waiting period to log out of a game when there's nothing and noone around is silly and annoying, you should be able to log out right away when you're stationary, no zombies or players are nearby and you're not in combat lock All the other changes are sorta fine. None of them seem like they were needed when compared to the big bugs (see http://dayzmod.com/f...60#entry1162826 ), but like I said, stagnation is worse -

Not so much as a whinge but an observation. Ok, ok - a whinge! Last night i joined a server which i presumed to be 'vanilla' DayZ - there was nothing in the server description to think otherwise. However upon joining i quickly realised that it was far from what i consider the "real" DayZ. I spawned with a Makarov, a map, a compass and not 100m from where i had stood there were 3(!) fully repaired and fueled Helis. Side chat was enabled and the chat consisted of : "OMG this is the best server ever!!" and such. Further exploration revealed the map was littered with vehicles. I realise that there are other servers which are 'vanilla' and there is a choice involved and normally i avoid these type of servers because it is not what i want out of the game. But my questions are: Why do players like these servers that give weapons at spawn, a map, a compass, 500+ vehicles etc etc? What sort of experience do you want out of a zombie survival game when things are put in your lap without the need for effort? In essence, why are you playing DayZ? Your thoughts please - it is a slow day here in downtown Brisbane.- 126 replies
