  1. In regards to vehicles, i personally have never really bothered with them, with the exception of the bicycle. I have never had much patience to fix one up but i can really see how some players and groups want them in asap. And to be honest hearing a vehicle or chopper heading your way is one of those classic DayZ moments.
  2. I guess I don't really get that, as I play alone most of the time. But, to me, that's part of the magic... and a valuable weight on gameplay. Rather than just beaming over to NEAF for ten minutes and back off with some nice loot, actually preparing for a journey, scaring the crap out of myself at every snapped twig in the woods on my way there, then the tension of looting the place and making it back to base in one piece is just more rewarding to me. It's not that I don't like vehicles, whenever I find one, you can bet your ass I'm using that bad boy. But, my main issue is that they're far too easy to repair and maintain to justify their benefits. Tires fit EVERY vehicle, engine parts fit EVERY vehicle. Which I'm sure is a problem they'll rectify in SA. But if vehicles were made harder to repair, with scarce fuel availability, I think they'd be more valuable... less likely to be used... and would fall more in line with the tension of DayZ. Plus, if sidechat were disabled across the board, I think they'd be seen as less of a common occurance and more of a significant "thing" if that makes any sense. Doing without for a while might help get back to that baseline.
  3. I may very well be, but I actually think it might be good for the community to do without for a while. I mean, I still walk 90% of my time in DayZ even on high vehicle count servers/mods. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic, but I think a lot of people have been spoiled by how easy vehicles are to maintain. To prove my point, I see people whining (yes, actually whining, not just hyperbole whining) for rides from the coast. This never used to happen, and really sort of underscores how spoiled people have become when they expect pickups along the coast. Granted, I attribute this more to the faults of sidechat more than anything, but the sentiment is still there.

    Give http://dayzpriv.com a look. They are very quick about support and use DayzCC for their control panel, which means easy import for custom placed vehicles and buildings!
  5. I think you're in the minority. It's a nice achievement to get a vehicle working after you searched for hours or days looking for parts. Now you can travel to locations quicker with a higher level of protection all while painting a huge target on yourself. I really like what they've done with vehicles in Arma III so I think not porting over Arma II stuff was a wise choice, plus again I like the customization features proposed with the new ideas.
  6. You're not. I'd rather they don't bother porting old ARMA 2 vehicles and just redo them completely later on. Exploring the new map is going to be more fun without vehicles. In the early days of the mod you would rarely come across one anyway and it was great. As for barricade-able houses, it seems to me like one of those ideas that sound cool in theory but in practice would never work. What would be the purpose of barricading an existing house in DayZ world?
  7. Hmmm... all this vehicle talk from Dean has got me thinking. Honest to god, I wouldn't mind DayZ without vehicles for a while. I really wouldn't mind if they were put on the backburner for other things. I'd rather have barricade-able houses than customizable vehicles. But, on the other hand, customizable vehicles could be a good testbed for houses. I don't know, I just really could care less about vehicles. Is anyone with me? Or am I alone?
  8. I did not meant full release. What I meant was a version of that game that is enjoyable by the majority of the people. Not a specific moment(alpha/beta/full) but just at some point where most of the major bugs will have been resolved, vehicles have been incorporated and other improvements making the game worthwhile for lots of ppl.
  9. The obvious solution to admin abuse is just go get your own server. I for one am glad for all the good admins out there that create great and safe places for me to play. Only complaint I have is extra gear at spawning in and servers with tons of vehicles. I prefer to be a survivor.

    DayZ 1.7.7.Dev Bug List

    Figured out where my helicopters went. Player vehicles are randomly spawning out in the debug plains at server start. Died 3 times tonight by getting thrown into the air by the docks. This was also a bug in 1.7.6.1.

    The problems I've found so far with 1.7.7

    Ive had a few issues. Perhaps it may just be the specific server I play on (which has never had issues before btw), but here we go. Pros New bandit outfit is awesome. I actually feel like its cool to have the bandit skin now. Before it felt dirty and out of place, but now it just feels right. No more rush to find a ghillie suit or camo! Combining clips. One word: FINALLY! No more stupid guns! Outlawing thermal weaponry was a step in the right direction, but finally removing those damn anti material rifles. Balance is restored. Can you tell the Origins devs to get rid of the PKP? :) Cons Loot isn't spawning properly. I logged in earlier to find lots of loot, only to be kicked and upon returning, loot despawned and under new rules, wont respawn for a long time right? Every heli crash i've been to has had no loot whatsoever. I have also noticed that in places loot and zombies arent spawning correctly too. I long for the day when I find a server that you don't have to wait around for loot to spawn, cause y'know, realism and all that. Zombie knockdown is OP. I watched a PsiSyndicate video about the new patch and he said it was a 1 in 5 chance or something (yes, i know he isn't the patch notes), but what I have experienced is more like 1 in 1. Its super annoying! They also seem to be damaging without swinging again, which isnt the end of the world, but with the new knockdown it makes it unbearable. Vehicles saves? I found two vehicles in the middle of Elektro, completely fixed up, full of loot. Is it possible that vehicles arent saving upon restart? I noticed theres now a 'save [vehicle]' mechanic like there used to be ages ago. Ghilie suit kick. I put one on, got kicked... Caused the aforementioned loot problem. I hope this is constructive.
  15. i guess they are tired because of the massive most of the time arid work the had to do so far. me thinks if the first few major features slowly turn out to be of use (medical system, crafting, vehicles) they will most certainly get confidence-boosts. edit: confidence is also influenced by feedback btw
  16. Yeah, I knew it would be the case and even predicted about 2 months ago but was still hoping for a miracle. Pretty much every part of the game, zombies, models, animations, weapons, crafting, interface, vehicles, loot is in very early stages or have not been worked on yet. The team is really short on resources, shame on you Bohemia, it was your chance to make it really big, like Blizzard/WoW huge., I guess tried and true Arma took priority and SA was shoved into a dark basement room with minimal resources.
  17. "Zombies should one shot players, if you get hit by a zombie you die." I am expecting some dumb shit to say this. I'm 36 years old, and a gamer, and i've found the most amusing thing is this: People want shit to be extremely hard and then they just quit playing it. MAN WE WANT REALISM! MAKE THE ZOMBIES HARDER! Then one day, they get bullshit on by zombies, and probably die 4 times in one day to getting chain knocked down or whatever and they quit. They don't come back to the forums but then a patch comes out that changes zombies and back they come. In EVERY single game i've played there's this huge community who want 'hardcore' mode but then when they get it they don't like it. I'm a hero, I play against zombies and dodging bandits and zombies need to be tweaked right now. The knock down thing is perfectly fine, it's losing aggros in the way you're SUPPOSED to lose them that is the problem. They don't work most of the time and that's a bit of an issue. If I can go all through a city with 12 zombies, run through several buildings and then come out the other side with 10... then somethings wrong. We don't have the ability to close doors behind us, or make obstacles to slow zombies down. De-aggro was the way this was supposed to work, and yet now it's very very hard to do it. De-aggro needs to be tweaked a little, I don't care about the loot because quite frankly there was way too much to begin with. Hording and server hopping didn't help the number of things on a server so *shrug*. Oh, PS: Reset vehicles that haven't been used in 3 days. If you're not active on a server and you've got 6 vehicles stashed away then reset that shit.
  18. my opinion: 1) make 3rd person something you'll have to earn! OR 2) do it like in the inventory:you can only see zeds/animals/vehicles/gamers in 3rd person, which are in the line of sight
  19. Not necessarily. I know one that currently just kind of like "I won't be with the server much longer anyways" and doing sorta bad things. He's not killing everybody but he does reveal positions sometimes to his buds sometimes as well as fixing vehicles and such.

  22. Problem is, if cars aren't in the SA, people will complain. If they are added in the SA, they'll have to be ported in from ArmA 2; which will give us the clunky pieces of crap we currently drive. People will still complain. There's really no win/win situation for that. In the end new vehicles and mechanics will be made but that is going to take some time.

    Custom Vehicles/Buildings Question

    I guess what I should be saying too, is I see the vehicles in the database, but what about buildings? I am assuming I just add them to the objects database and then they will spawn correctly or something, but do I have to worry about the loot spawning in them differently? So do I put vehicle/building spawns in the same database table? Thanks for any help you can give.

    To those bitching about the lack of vehicles [cough]Gummy[/cough] You do realize that the whole point of the alpha is to address the more important and basic issues that are quite apparent from the recent videos. Rushing a half-baked vehicle system or even including the old one for release would be completely counter-productive in this regard.. There's a reason they've only included limited weapons/areas of the map open for the internal testing so far :|
