    I would not mind an optional group spawning mechanic for starting a new game together with friends or as suggested by Zeppa starting with a small group of random people. But clan spawn mechanics like respawning near your squadleader after being killed or at your base for example are completely out of question. Also picking up respawning team members at the coast by chopper or car will be hopefully stopped by making fuel extremely rare in the SA. Being able to carry only 2 long-guns for gameplay reasons as suggested by Codestargod sounds like a very good idea to me. "He should also not be allowed to use the same username as before, but rather, take on an entirely different character. Any accumulated abilities would be wiped clean, and in effect, be an avatar noob all over again." agreed but I would go that far and also wipe out any saved tents and vehicles...btw will containers like tents, vehicles or boxes/crates work the same way as in the mod ??
  3. hi there! just been playing the game for about a week, the game is so unique but having read Max Brooks' World War Z, I have a lot of suggestions for the SA I heard a rumor about including "Classes" like a normal MMORPG, and we could use that to encourage cooperation and make pvp a lot more difficult and or undesirable, so, my idea is that each class would have and unique ability and a group ability, something that can only work when a group is formed. My idea of classes would be like this, each one has it's strenghts and weakness, in the end I tried to make them so playing lone wolf would be a lot more difficult and kind of realistic/authentic. Also you wouldn't be able to choose them, it would be random with every respawn. Medic: Starts with a medpack that can only carry medicines, also have more starter medicines, like epi pens and morphine besides the bandage, this medpack can only carry medicines, and that would be the only class that can give blood transfussions and also I think that there we must eliminate generic diseases, to make the medic a must in a group, he would be able to "see" what kind of infection you have and to him the generic "antibiotics" would be specific, to any other player they would appear as generic antibiotics with no way to know if they work with his disease, v.g. if you have cholera (a realistic effect on the game would be a very quick dehydratation, with TBC to have 0 stamina to run and so on) and no medical knowledge, what antibiotic would you take? of course you can swallow random pills and pray they work. Also i think that self treatment or done by a non medic should have a probability of having no effect or worsen the situation (a too tight bandage can make you lose a limb in RL), while the medic carries no risk Drawback: can carry less ammo than other classes. Group abillity: increases probability of finding antibiotics and medicines. Soldier: the only class that can carry two primary weapons (something that I find very stupid in the game.... a regular joe carrying a .50 cal and an AK? seriously) and can carry more ammo than other classes. GA: increases prob of finding MILITARY weapons, civilian weapons and ammo, it is very annoying that military grade weapons are so common, without a soldier in your group it would be very rare to find military weapons or their ammo, which is fair, think, if you find an AK with no bullets, how would you know which ammo works with that rifle? (assuming you are a regular joe =) ) also he would have more stamina than other clasess, other thing that I don't like, unlimited stamina. Drawback: gets thirsty and hungry quicker thatn the others... which is also fair isn't it? Mechanic: Starts with a toolbox with things like industrial tape, saws, lockpicks, and so on, which can be used to open doors, and most important, TO IMPROVISE MELEE WEAPONS! for example... no axe? just use the saw on a table, and so on. He would be the only one who can repair vehicles, again, how many of you can make a car work if the engine is gone? of course that you can change the tire with no help, but the engine is a very different story, also is the only class that can pilot an heli. other thing that I would like to add is that weapons must wear over time, it's not fair that a rifle exposed to the wild for who knows how long can still fire like it was new, and the mech can repair them, also he would be able to lock piick doors and other stuff with locks. GA: increases prob of finding spare parts for vehicles and gasoline Drawback: less stamina Hunter: wild life expert, he starts with binoculars and a compass. I heard that dogs could be trained so I suggest that the Hunter can have more chances of succes making them "friendly", and also a suggestion, food must be more varied, you can't live on pasta and beans, so there must be two indicators, one for veggies and fruit (to empty this wouldn't be fatal, but infection risk skyrockets) and the other one would be generic, with that in mind you could eat wild strawberries but with sickness risk, hunter can distinguish them, also he would have more stamina and better night vision, and when hunting, he can get more meat than the other classes. GA:increases prob of finding wild animals to hunt Drawback: has lower prob of succes with medicines, even if administred by a med. I treid to make the classes with drawbacks that would make playing lone wofl a lot more difficult but still doable, the group abilities make cooperation a lot more disireable About dogs: can distract zombies outrunning them, smell to find snipers and sense if a player has kills More items like a portable stove, better than fire because it doesn't emit smoke and much less visible at night, but requires gas of course, and batteries for the NVG!!!! it's just ridiculous that it can run forever! Vehicle sized camo! Underground fortress!! It would be awsome to have them! but with it's drawbacks, cannot be used for too long or infection risk becomes very high, not to mention to stay in the same room with a sick person, and it can be assalted by bandits (not easy though, also there must be traps like bombs attached to wires, to make them realistic they cannot be seen like a normal FPS in the HUD so you can fall in your own traps) but the entry can be covered by camo that's all I can think right now, I want to hear your suggestions =)

We are a New England based private hive via dayz.st, Washington DC. 3rd person | Crosshairs | Death Mesages: ON Name Plates: OFF Difficulty: Regular Version: 1.7.7.1 50.97.49.84:3238 US BOSTON is set to full day and night. Nights are very playable with the additional lighting I have added. Now with the 1.7.7.1 update and full moons, night play is very attractive. Yes there are addon's and modifications, but they are storyline based. Nothing unrealstic like self blood bags or vehicle repair stations. Our main priority is to preserve a sense of realism. We don't have hundred's of vehicles. But we do have many vehicles on the server, all of which are in appropriate locations. Becoming mobile will not be a hard task. You won't spawn in Kamenka and see a HMV within arm's reach. But if you look around, you will find acceptable transportation that will get you out of East Cutty. Hand radio's are functional. Important broadcasts, warnings, as well as story-line based missions can be heard via radio. Once you have a map, finding a radio will not be difficult. Car radio's are working, but only music for the time being. Pre-recorded broadcasts will be coming soon. Not only do we have storyline based missions, but we also have missions that aren't storyline based that go off randomly. You do not need a hand radio for the random missions. I use Sarge Ai with static spawn locations. I believe there are three area's that have Bandit Ai. I've dumbed the Bandit Ai down to almost the bare minimum. I've placed them based on; what I believe, to be logical locations. If you were a bandit you would scavenge area's with the best resources possible. Two area's out of three have Soldier Ai that serv as a self-cleaning oven for your convenience As a bonus for having a high Humanity rating, several wardrobe options can be unlocked! Those with a humanity rating of 20,000 will unlock the entire wardrobe. Our max ping is set to 450 in hopes to attract players globally. A dissolving ebug monitor can be viewed by assigning Custom Control #19. ADDONS Sarge Ai Refuel at Pump. Radio [Hand & Car] Street/House/Tower Lights Humanity Based Wardrobe Enhanced Color Correction CCTV MODIFICATIONS Bridge to Skalisty Island Checkpoints Observation Post Balota Raceway Devil's Mountain Redux Survivor Compound NWAF Additions Unbanned Weapons Aircraft Carrier Militia Outpost Oceanic Testing Facility And a few others...   8. Now I was told private hives can do whatever they want, but there are still hacking admins in the server, so I'll report their group. In the server Dayz Bliss (200 vehicles max repaired) : IP - 134.129.140.2:2302 Today we caught them hacking in a forest near the edge of the map, where we followed their helicopter land. And we noticed something Odd, they decided to spawn a box(crate full of all the items in the game, hacked etc.), and as they were all crowded around it, a friend and I unleashed barages of grenades on them, upon dying, they instantly banned us for this. Now like I said, private hives apparently aren't under control of dayz staff some how, but they still had, and are using hacks. -Names- Duckman - Admin of server f0twenty - The hacker for sure. [KOMA]Perez - Hacker for sure as well. Chillasteve - Runs with the group, not sure if hacker or not. They were also running As50 TWS etc, obvious hacked. They made the mistake of giving me a heli ride, and expected me to not tell on them for hacking. This picture portrays the obvious "box/crate" behind the banned message, with dead bodies scattered around.
  9. I just came up with an idea. What about a mini-game to repair cars? like having a 2D image of an engine with some parts to connect, and you have to connect it properly depending on whats broken and whats not. And ofc different car types would have different engines, so if you want to be skilled repairing vehicles you would need a lot of expierence doing it. This way it would be player-skill based. Doesn't depend on classes, levels or ingame-skills, nor tools which can be stolen (and probably getting you murdered in the process).

    I'm not sure why, possibly related to a newer patch, but lately it is very hard to find a server with good fps. You can have a great ping but if the server has the classic 1000 added vehicles with a ton of added buildings, it kills performance. Frankieonpcin1080p's recent DayZ video showed in the debug his fps was around 35. I think DayZ has progressed in a positive way but with that progression optimization has fallen back, and more and more people are now scratching their heads and re-assuring their embarrassed PCs that it's not their fault. Because it's not. If any hardware is to blame for the poor fps on DayZ it is the server's hardware, specifically the CPU. We can only try to cope with the hand that we've been delt, I run RamDisk loading important pbo files off my ram. I have disabled all CPU restricting features like CPU parking, halt states, and am playing around with hyper-threading and cpu affinity. I have tried numerous command line variations as well as optimizing my config files. In the end, I've found the best thing to do is find the right server. Currently playing on 70.32.33.90:2332 overwatch. I get great FPS on that server.

  14. I'm just getting my opinion across. What I mean is, if you want the standalone to be difficult and unforgiving, don't bother with the tutorials and walkthroughs. When the SA does come out, everything will be different. No more loot spawns that people are accustomed(?) to, no more vehicles (until later on), etc etc, but then once people devote their time to finding good loot spots and then telling everyone about it on youtube, then there goes your fun. There's the easy way out. Making / watching tutorials completely ruins the game. If you keep dying, keep going. Take a different route. Try a different strategy. Team up with friends. But using tutorials to get through loot, weapons and vehicles is not the right way because you are basically having training wheels attached to you. Maybe I should edit my original post to a better explanation. *sigh* I have a bad habit of doing that -.- You have to learn for yourself.

    Army of CR is pretty much just useful if you want to play vanilla Arma 2, which is a lot of fun. A LOT. BAF (lite) comes with ArmA 2 OA. BAF (full, which you'll get with the whole bundle) doesn't add anything to DayZ BAF doesn't, besides (maybe!) better looking guns/vehicles from BAF. Of those in DayZ, there are few. PMC (Private MIlitary Company) will make a lot of the game look better, I guess. I never found it useful to have PMC (full) instead of PMC (lite) that comes with Arma 2 OA.

    I was just about to post his idea. Could make for interesting scenario's. I like the thought of stalking somebody, then placing their pics in their tent. Or perhaps being able to pin the pics on a notice board. You could post pics with writing. Because of the radio's, you could post radio frequencies with the pics... like maybe try to sell a car or a gun :lol:. A Marker pen could become a lootable item so you could write on the picture, like MS paint. Draw penis's or swear words? So what, there's more of that in the average high school anyways EDIT: Basic polaroid camera seems fitting. You could sell pictures of clan members to other clan members. Giving more accurate details and proof of weapons/ vehicles. Perhaps far-fetched but the more idea's the merrier eh?

    I dislike how much people exaggerate the state of most server's today. The only real differentiation that I notice on them is that they have different vehicle spawns and private hives. Some of them have gear (Especially PvP servers) but most of them don't actually have 150 vehicles on the map at a time, but 150 possible vehicles with a relatively-low chance to spawn.

    that's what i was afraid of really, i know it to be true because look at what's happened to the mod recently. are there even any public hive servers left? they're all 1000 VEHICLES SUPER PVP SPAWN WITH AS50 AND GHILLIE servers now. there's no hope for the standalone if it's left to the community, because once again we'll end up with more SUPER PVP servers :(
  22. To clarify things: By default all functionalities is fa_hivemaintenance are disabled. "IGNORED" means that the amount of vehicles of each class is controlled (it's one functionality among others), and some vehicles are seen as "extra" vehicles. Because someone changed the vehicles list on the hive side for all public servers, without any detailed changelog, after the 1.7.7 was released. The list in dayz_server.pbo is simply not up-to-date. Note: if you want to control vehicles amounts, updated version of config.cpp from dayz_server.pbo should be: Vehicles with 1 as damage are 100% damaged, so are not spawned by default. They still exists in the hive. They is a script on hive side that "recycles" these vehicles (new respawn, new loot, new damage, new fuel level) regularly. This functionality exists in fa_hivemaintenance too, but it unuseful since I have been told that the script on hive side was working properly. fa_hivemaintenance never deletes any entry in vehicle list stored in hive. If some vehicle are missing (deleted from the list you can see in HiveExt.log) this is the result of hackers, or a bug (or strange logic) on the hive side script. I don't think that fa_hivemaintenance lets vehicles in debug area. This may be the result of hackers. It's quite unlikely that it's a bug of the hive side script too. fa_hivemaintenance can add missing vehicles, but they will be destroyed less than 24h afterwards, since on the hive side there is a script that delete vehicles created by gameservers (and this scripts works very well, nobody never complained about this one :) )
