If you don't want to play for the "realism bullshit" then go right ahead and play on another server with DMR spawn loadouts and 1000+ vehicles and helis. I for one won't be joining you.
-
agree with both of you, the realism element with vehicles would be great and cars should only explode when they are attacked with some form of explosive.

This game feels too hard, something wrong on my server?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to xoiio's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah, what you've experienced seems normal to me. Well, actually it doesn't, as you seem to be finding a hell of a lot more vehicles than I've ever seen, but as far as zombie frequency and location goes, yeah that's about par for the course. DayZ is a very different kind of game to what you may have been expecting. It's very rare indeed for an experienced player to feel the need to use firearms on zombies, because all that does is attract more zombies, and there are probably going to be more zombies than you have bullets, so unless you've got a GOOD escape plan, put that itchy trigger finger to one side. You'll soon learn that the best tactic is to avoid confrontation and that this is best achieved by slow, steady progress, which means crawling through any area with more than a handful of zombies - you're going to get it wrong a few times, and you're going to die horribly more than a few times. That's part of DayZ's learning curve - it's not a hand-holding kind of game, and if you fuck up, it will happily kick you in the nuts as punishment. -
[SA] or [MOD]: Move the HUD to your inventory screen
enforcer1975 replied to BC_Hawke's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Nice idea but since you already have problems reading any kind of intrument incl. the watch you need high res models, as everyone can see most instruments are not even working correctly in the vehicles. I would love to have a "live" watch and map though. Metro focused on that feature so it's no wonder they made in in detail. While ArmA seems to be clunky and old compared to other games of it'S kind ( there are no games of it's kind btw. ) it focuses on other things all the other games don't. Even Minecraft is closer to ArmA in it's day/night cycle than other games with faked ones just to show an example. -
October Round-up: #DayZDaily
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to SmashT's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
It's simple. I don't swim. Basically 99% of the time I spend in game is on dry land, as swimming clearly puts you at a disadvantage. If they sped it up, I wouldn't mind. The other islands will probably necessitate some tweaking anyway. But talk about converting the swimming to the way it works in Arma 3... Well that's a completely new ball game. They'd have to map the underwater areas, taking up precious memory and causing further delays and pointless issues, when really right now they should be focusing on core mechanics, network stability, crafting combinations, dry land map content, vehicles, ect. It would be nice, but honestly it's not a pressing issue at the moment. The game isn't going to be completely broken just because swimming is a tad bit clunky. At least you don't lose all your gear at the bottom of the ocean anymore. I remember those days... -
Hello everyone, I set up a private DayZ server to mess around with and possibly put public, however I would like to just fool around and have fun first, as well as using inventory items to become familiar with them. I can see that there are no addons that allow you to just spawn items or vehicles, and that would be a bit much, so, after I log in and then exit, saving my position and inventory, how can I go about changing what I have in there/in my backpack, as well as possibly the backpack I have? Really the most I want to do right now is load myself out with weapons or something like that, to fool around before I play legitimately. So, how can I do this? Is it all text based or is there a GUI tool? I would also like to know how to edit the default loadout for anyone joining the server/respawning. I own the server it is on, and I am running DayZ Epoch 1.6.2.

If I ever manage to have 10 seperate bases all stacked with guns, meds, vehicles, etc and spread out all over the map I will still feel like I need to do more. I kinda see what your saying OP but DayZ really isnt a story line type game. And I think people who get bored with this game need to open up there eyes to the long term survival aspect. DayZ is what you make it and as a matter of fact you can create your own end game. I believe people get geared up with a good gun, 3-4 clips, cooked meat, meds and maybe even a tent loaded with gear and they think they have reached "End Game". I dont think people realize how quickly that can all go away. If I ever get in a even remotely comfortable place in DayZ where I feel stable with enough bases and gear I will start popping off headshots on zombies relentlessly. If I get bored of that I will run trains CoD style. If I get bored of that I will build camp fires in the middle of Elektro and try to host block parties.

Neither current gen should even be considered. If it were to happen it wouldn't be soon and next-gen would be the way to go. But if you ask me, it wouldn't be the same DayZ experience for various reasons on console. Hell, the KoS would be worse, no doubt, as fewer people seem to have mics, and most people are there for some quick fun, not an investment of time into a character. People would rage about the bugs. People would rage about lack of updates, which would take even longer. People would likely be frustrated with clunky controls. Imagine trying to find that canteen your pal dropped for you with a joystick. It's hard enough with a mouse, looking over the ground constantly trying to get the option. Plus ALL servers would be Vanilla, and most of the DayZ audience doesn't even play that and prefer tons of vehicles and guns.

This is a brand new server 500+ vehicles, active mods are listed below. High performance SSD server with low ping and very little desync. This server is hosted in Germany because we have gone with a company which allows for amazing flexibility for us to make changes that make the experience better for you !, but this is still a server run by professional admins based in the United Kingdom who are all over the age of 18 and have had extensive server hosting experience and server development skills. We have setup our server so people can skydive from heli's/planes, this is great for stealth when raiding bases, you can fly at any height and your team can skydive down to a base and control the dive meanwhile open parachute at anytime and land in their base or near their base for an effective raid ! Please bear in mind that there may still be some issues with scripts that we are still looking into fixing please report any issues you come across to the admins and we will investigate, this server has only been online for 2 days. I play both Epoch and Origins as well as Vanilla. Heck I just started playing Battle Royal which is a pretty extreme jump from DayZ Vanilla. I believe the Standalone should not be open for modding. This sounds hypocritical but it really isn't. You will notice how hard it is to find a VANILLA Epoch server, to the point where most of the people bashing Epoch are bashing things that are not even in Epoch but are add-ons that individual server owners have added like safe zones. A lot of the people on epoch are not even playing Epoch. They are playing 1000+ vehicles, Self Blood Bag, Start with Gear, and Basebuilding 1.7.6 with traders as far as they would notice. There is the same cherno/electro experiences of spawn and get shot. Vanilla Epoch servers are about as hard as regular vanilla, but a lot of people avoid them because they are "hard". So for every good server using a solid Mod as intended you get 20 that are basically crap. Why? Because they can private host and add whatever mods they want to them. Can you give examples. I can. In both Epoch and Origins there is a way to basically secure gear in a manner that a player would have to stalk you and kill you at the right moment to get it. I don't see that as a bad thing. You can't guard your stash 24/7 alone.... but then again you could guard it a lot better than you can in Vanilla where people can access it while you CAN'T be guarding it because you are not online. See, if tents only existed while the owning player was online then every time they run off to loot things the tent is exposed but they have a reasonable ability to affect it's security. They could have several people take turns guarding their tents while a few ran off and looted, which is how most people would do it. Otherwise they could loot only nearby places and keep checking on their tent. As it is there is the workday and while I sleep that anyone can wander up and just take everything. I don't like the, "Can't access in any way..." Safe and House in those other mods, but given that someone can scope your place out when you are not online and then wait for you to log in and ambush you while they are open, they are not totally secure. It's basically a way of saying, "While you have to do that real life stuff, you don't have to worry about your pretend stuff." That is the primary change but I think it is a solid one because otherwise we are only rewarding those who have more freetime. ;)

A lot of new mods. If you want a decent game that actually tries to emphasise the survival aspect go for the vanilla, original DayZ or DayZero. The new popular mod at the moment is DayZ Epoch, it's all about trading and base-building and the vast majority of servers have safe-zone areas and a bazillion vehicles if you're into that sort of thing. Nothing totally major has changed other than that, really.

Naw. We use the word 'fuck' in place of commas - the rest of it we just don't get taught in school, too busy with all the caber-tossing. You'd be better just jumping into a server man and seeing how it goes, try http://mustygaming.com/Forum/ a decent bunch of lads and lassies and you always end up finding someone to kick about with. The zombies.nu DayZero servers are also brilliant fun and more like vanilla DayZ rather than all the silly million vehicles and weapons servers.

DayZ SA not being moddable
[email protected] replied to rooniedoo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm not seeing it that way tbh. Some of the core elements of mods such as epoch and origins, things that actually truly separate them from vanilla go directly against what Dean wanted/wants this game to be about and by all accounts would be very unlikely to ever be implemented. You do realize DayZ mod was hugely popular before epoch even existed, right? Yes, it depends how you define success though. Popularity doesn't mean shit really, going by that logic the SA should feature 1000 helis, 100000 vehicles servers by default. The game not coming out because of the popularity of the mods would be pretty strange considering it is most likely going to come out with no vehicles and certainly no base building, not even tents. -
Origins: Tavianna map but with some specific updates to it for Origins including an additional couple of islands. New buildings. The Zombies don't track as well as the current Vanilla zombies do but are a bit tougher in general to kill and tend to go down best with headshots. All new skins for the zombies. Multiple hero/bandit levels as you gain or lose humanity. Custom skins for the various levels. Ability to collect needed supplies and build a house. Some are drops in building and some need to be gathered like Stone and Wood Piles. Regular vehicles and "reinforced" vehicles. There are some that you can add metal plates and such onto so that they are more durable. these are things like a taxi you can add on metal plates to make it withstand more damage. Different weapons pack. Various pistols, submachine guns, and rifles. The power level seems to be about right so far. DMR and M14 seem to be the most dangerous and they are pretty rare. Running around with AKs and M4s at the moment unless I go to take out zombies in which case I tend to use a MP5SD6 which works for headshots. A Sector B section that is guarded by AI soldiers. You can't really solo that area. They do not have the better weapon swap system or crafting of 1.8, the zombies are not as robust as 1.8. Infection doesn't seem common. It's a different experience than DayZ but if you have played a bunch of DayZ then it might be a good change to try out.

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knows of a completely or almost VANILLA Namalsk server to play on. I would like one with the Magnetic Waves, Bloodsuckers, basic buildings, and everything else ORIGINALLY in the mod. I don't mind small stuff like Self Blood Bag or take clothes, but I don't want a starting loadout and 10000+ vehicles. If anyone has one or knows of one, please post the name or a link to it's website or ANYTHING! I'm dying to play a vanilla one, and all the ones now are PvP, M4A1 CCO SD loadout, and Hueys everywhere or something. Thanks for the help guys, Brian

DayZ SA not being moddable
dannyboy (DayZ) replied to rooniedoo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Seems like a pretty current trend of people bashing the mods like origins and epoch. The masses of Uberfanboys in this forums is one of the many many reason I rarely post here, but I decided to make a exception here. If Dayz vanilla was so awesome, and so great, the mods like Epoch and Origins wouldn't be as popular as they are. they are taking a game that is a pretty good mod, and giving the people what they want. however, is not what the fanboys want. so that is ruining the game huh? By getting more people to play it.........by getting more people to enjoy it.........huh, that's pretty f'ed up logic. Marketability is something you should think about. Epoch and origins do something the regular mod can't do. Creating a economy. ability to build bases, store goods, buy vehicles and make it more like a real apocalypse setting. Ability to stash lockboxes, safes, etc. Like what would happen IRL in a Apocalypse setting. people wouldn't be camping in a fire station, killing everyone that came by for there beans. They would pair up, pool resources, build fortifications. kill Zombies. hunt douchebags. Dayz SA was supposed to be out last year, early this year right? About the time Origins and Epoch took off right? So do you think that maybe the guys behind the SA are taking note, and trying to make a game the everyone will WANT TO PAY FOR. I don't know about you, but if I want to play a brutal game, I'll play DayZ vanilla. I certainly am not going to buy the exact same game with better graphics and the ability to do a few more things but not be able to build or own gear. people will, but more people will buy stuff closer to Epoch/Origins. I am sure the SA will come out, probably not be modable. do you think it will be closer to vanilla, or closer to epoch/2017/origins etc? my money is on the later. Who wants to pay 2 times for a more brutal version of call of duty, where people just hang out with a rifle on the shore killing noobs. If that's what makes the game great to you, go play Call of Duty. There are plenty of sheep there for you to enjoy. oh and I'm not trying to change a fanboys view, or views. that's a waste of time. -
Man I tried to find a Namalsk server and literally couldnt find one with even a single player in there. btw self blood bag is about as far away from Vanilla as you can get lol. That's not a small difference from Vanilla. If you find a good Namalsk server (no starting loadout, no extra vehicles, no self blood bag and etc) please let me know.

Having played Vanilla Epoch which has limited vehicles, plenty of zombies, no seriously extra loot spawn points, no AI, no safe zones, no DMRs, no AS50s and such... I found myself with interesting challenges. Mainly I found myself trying to save up to start building a base. I wanted a secure base, but "secure" is a limited thing in Epoch. You can buy a car with a key and lock it, but people can find rare spawns from police zombies that have a "Hotwire Kit" that can unlock a vehicle once and until server restart. So while things can't be taken by anyone who wanders by, there are not always perfectly safe. The only thing that can store them safely is an actual Safe, which is expensive and limited in storage. I like that finding ammo for guns I don't use isn't a complete waste of time to be left on the floor until it despawns. I like that I can gather it up and trade it in for beans or a hunting knife. Some believe this isn't in the DayZ spirit and it is and isn't. I think a couple things are priced too low, but a lot of it is about right. I don't have to "farm an area" but can save up from all the crap I gather and trade and buy an item I want instead of server hopping, or triggering loot spawns till it shows up. I really like the time-sink of base building. Think about Vanilla. After you get your gear what is left to do? Um.... maybe get a vehicle and fix it? Okay... now what? Shoot people. In Epoch I get geared up, I get a vehicle, and now I spend a LOT of time hunting up building supplies and then building my base. I do it in and out of the way place in the hope I don't get shot and need to keep it maintained so I have to constantly go out and find building materials not just find a good gun or set of guns, ammo, basic gear, 4 tires, engine, fuel parts, and jerry cans, then go shoot people. It gives people an end goal and keeps them going to different locations on the map to find Cinder Blocks and Mortar. The fact that you can't get locks off of anything but zombie corpses and maybe as random loot found in an untouched vehicle means people actually ENGAGE zombies instead of just running around them and looting the buildings quick. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Origins on the other hand does a few different things right. You want a house so you can secure a few things. I think they are a bit too secure, but at least the first level house only holds ten guns and you can be shot coming out and your gear available to loot. To do that you have to gather a bunch of supplies. Again you have a goal beyond gearing up and going, "Then what?" Second level house means you have to get the plans for it, which means engaging a super zombie that takes a ton of damage. Maybe he drops it. The more rare plans require killing the mayor of a semi fuctioning island that is filled with AI soldiers. You need a small group to get in and out safely which encourages teaming up with someone so end game isn't all about PvP but some cooperation. Then again, you don't ever have to go that far. You could build a level 1 or 2 house and shoot anyone who wanders onto your lawn, so to speak. Some people won't, but it gives those who would something to do besides just survive or PvP. -------------------------------------------- You see, that is the ONE place Vanilla falls aside. It's a persistent game, with no permanency. Your tents can be run over, your razor wire pulled up, your vehicles stolen. While I don't think things should NEVER be taken I do believe there should be a way to take reasonable precautions so that someone can't just walk up to your tent and take all your stuff. If tents were only accessible while you were online and such that would be one thing, but when you work and have family and can only be online a few hours each week then having a tent can be somewhat pointless since you are not around often enough to keep people out of the area, or pack things up if you had to. This does, and does not make sense. What makes more sense is that you would find a way to secure an area and post guards to protect your precious food and ammo. I think Epoch and Origins better work for THAT aspect of apocalypse simulation. Vanilla went a long way by giving us the more easily hidden stashes to tuck things into, but that still isn't all that realistic. 5 guys could reasonably secure an area against a few desperate people and have a chance of guarding their gear, not have some random survivor, unarmed, starving, nearly dead, come to their camp and rummage through everything and walk away armed, healthy, and ready to go. You would probably have 2 people guard it at all times.

Questions from a returning player
.Ender. replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
cool, thanks for the info! Ill check out that link right now. Im actually hurt and about to die after acquiring some decent gear so I guess Ill have to start over anyways. But so far other than a neat base and some locked vehicles, everything seemed the same. (Oh, and harvesting plants for food...was that an upgrade to Vanilla as well?). Anyways, so far its enjoyable other than breaking my leg after changing into different clothing, and then bleeding profusely even after using up my bandages. Gotta love glitches :) -
Dunno if this is the wrong spot for this thread, but I need some help. I have been playing Vanilla since DayZ came out. (off and on). Yesterday I tried Epoch. So far its basically the same except I found locked vehicles and a pretty cool custom fortress..lol. But I was changing outfits in a residential building I came across. As soon as I put on the rebel outfit from my spawned civy, I broke my leg. Well it wasn't just that and that's it..I can crawl around and survive. But then I started bleeding profusely. Now I had one bandage and lots of meat. Within a minute or two I started bleeding again and lost almost all my blood. No more bandages, one more meat, and no epipen to fix my broken bone. Is this known? Should I have just not changed? Does anyone support medic services in the Epoch mod? Kind of sucks..was doing well and now I die not from players or zeds, but because I apparently cant figure out how to put on camo pants without hurting myself.... :/

My cars keep dissapearing on restart
OfficerRaymond replied to piffaroni's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Instead of using tools to spawn vehicles, actually add them to you're database and map manually using your server map and database. It's as simple as putting in coordinates and finding vehicle code names. -
My cars keep dissapearing on restart
OfficerRaymond replied to piffaroni's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I'm 99% sure that any cars spawned using ingame tools (no matter what tool) will always disappear upon restart. The same thing applies to fixed vehicles a per the damage fixed (the damage fixed will be undone upon server restart). -
Not every person who plays "DayZ" is a "DayZ Player". I am a person who really enjoys the pure version of DayZ but I also play mods like Epoch and Origins. Heck I even tried out the Battle Royal mod which is interesting a very different way, but it is not anything like Vanilla. We have games out there that you can drop into and play for an hour or two and come out having had fun but not had any real investment in. Games where the world isn't persistent and what you do today has little to no effect on what happens or what you do tomorrow in the game. That is not DayZ and shouldn't be. The appeal of DayZ to some of us is that we spend a good deal of our time and effort in gathering all the needed things and maintaining that status of alive and functioning. The threat that some other human or Zed could end that status makes it appealing. I enjoy gearing up but I don't enjoy rushing it because I know someone is going to grab the first Lee Enfield or other rifle he can find and go camp the fire tower in 3rd person. He won't worry about food or drink, or anything else because he has 20 shots and will probably die before he uses those up so doesn't care. That guy will just die, grab the first gun he finds and go right back to the firehall. He ruins the game for the people who are actually trying to play it and not turn it into a 30 minute round PvP CoD/BF match. There is a lot to be said for gathering everything you will need to not just survive, but thrive. Couple water bottles and means to boil them and cook meat, stockpile of meat, extra ammo for you main gun, and secondary weapons of your choice. Then you sit back and decide you might want to find a vehicle to fix up and maintain. Then maybe hunt the north for helicopter crashes, and such. That game needs a chance to thrive but it doesn't if there are 1000+ vehicles, extra barracks, self blood bag, start with DMR servers sucking up some of the playerbase. I get the whole, "But if they go there they wanted to play that type of game." and that is not exactly the whole truth. What ends up happing is that there are players that would be perfectly content to play DayZ Vanilla, in first person, with limited guns and ammo, with fewer vehicles, a full day and night schedule... IF there wasn't something easier for them to run to. I've got friends that would play First Person just fine, if Third didn't give huge advantages that made the game easier for them. Instead the cop-out and play the easier things. In the end they lose the experience they stated they wanted to have and realize that Battlefield is better for the game play style of spending a couple hours in a FPS PvPing like mad.
