I like your point of view, but remember that you cannot force feelings. A lot of people might never enjoy the game the same way you do, and it's not something you can change by writing a constructive letter. It's an innate ability to perceive and enjoy that's unique to each person. But yeah, one of the reasons I stopped playing on private hives is because of all the additional vehicles/gear/donor gear. I am enjoying public hives immensely right now.

Always use the sights/scope on the gun. The crosshairs can be misleading, especially at really close range and in third person. Make sure to lead moving targets and compensate for bullet drop. Try to see where your bullets are hitting and adjust your shots accordingly. When shooting at vehicles try to get a clear shot at the driver from the front or back of the vehicle so you don't have to worry about leading them as much. If you're shooting from the side aim for tires. When shooting at people I like to aim for the legs. Not only does this give you the chance of breaking their legs and slowing them down significantly, the recoil will generally bring your gun up to their chest or head and allow for nice follow-up shots. Playing Wasteland on normal Arma 2 is a good way to get familiar with different weapons. Just launch Operation Arrowhead and type Wasteland into the filter.

So I'll try to keep this short, but just the past couple days I had quite the interesting life cycle in Dayz. I was playing on a common server I enjoy; It's private hive, extra vehicles, and 1.7.7 patch. (I actually enjoy the new, more difficult patch!) DAY 1: I started off my life in Elektro with one goal : I wanted to live this life as a bandit somehow. I had no idea how I would become one, but I wanted to live the life of a bandit this playthrough. As anyone who starts in Elektro would do, i scanned the key buildings... and as anyone who plays 1.7.7 would know, I found much less than I would have hoped. The server only had 15-20 people and I hadn't seen anyone, yet I did not get a whole lot of gear from the town. But then I heard a few revolver shots to the west side of the city by the industrial buildings. Being the curious person I am, I walked over there cautiously to find that a bandit had holed up in a small building and was trapped by zombies. I took my trusty Makarov and shot him in the head right through the window, and then proceeded to finish the zombies and loot him. He had a CZ 550 with 5 rounds, some food, a revolver with a few mags, and some key essentials such as a map and a knife. A great find for just starting! Then, I walked over to the school and got on the roof slowly with my shiny new sniper rifle and continued to scope out the town. Nothing. A barren wasteland in the city of Elektro. But then I noticed something I hadn't before - two people were talking in side chat about how they were going to meet up at the Elektro gas station and then head North. Ahh I remember those days of meeting up with people in side chat... how cute. I thought I'd run North a ways into "Counter-sniper" hill of Elektro and see if I couldn't watch their little "meet up." Sure enough, about 5 minutes later two people walked into the gas station. As they sat there (presumably chatting) I shot one of them directly in the head and the other one instantly crouched. I killed one of them instantly, but the other wasn't to be seen. That was when the guys in side chat started yelling at each other, "YOU SET ME UP! YOU FUCKER." I actually audibly laughed in my computer chair. The second guy waited a good 5 minutes before attempting to sprint to the industrials of Elektro. I killed him too, but not after wasting all of my CZ ammo. I looted both bodies and found tons of food and water - perfect for my trip up North! I then left Dayz until tomorrow to continue. DAY2: Now I was a bandit! I had the cool skin, and I felt pretty cool having killed three people already! I started back where I was at the gas station, and decided to head to Cherno to pick up more med supplies and grab a bike. (Elektro was densely populated with heavy gunfire and the admin placed many bikes in Cherno to encourage North-travel) When I got to Cherno, I instantly realized it was a mistake, there were players everywhere! Every 2 seconds a shot would go off and someone would die. I took nearly 15 minutes to crawl to the med tents to loot. (I was playing cautiously because I actually wanted this character to survive a long time - I wanted to play strategically) as Iooted, a car drove up next to the med tents with a horde of zombies behind it. Of course, the zombies instantly turned to me and surrounded me in a tent. I eventually killed them all, but not after I lost nearly half of my health. Now even more zombies came because of my firing, and I became scared that players would be congregating around me soon. So I decided to jump the guys car and wait. After 2 minutes of waiting (the guy must have been afk) he started it up and started to drive away, unaware of my presence. I then said a soft "Hey". and he freaked out. He was just 14 years old by the sound of his voice, and because I don't remember his name, we'll call him person "A". Person A at first was scared but then, as we drove out of cherno, started telling me how he just got the game and found this cool car by the docks. I actually felt bad that I wanted to kill him, but I was a bandit and sometimes things have to be done. As I planned in my head how to kill him when we stopped the car, I noticed he was driving pretty fast down the road to Kamenka. He was just mindlessly talking my ear off as I watched his driving get worse and worse. Eventually the inevitable happened, I couldn't even yell "Watch out!!" in time, he slammed the car into some debris and I lost almost all of my blood. We both survived, but with broken legs and undoubtedly under 1000 blood. We walked a ways from the smoking car into a field and I asked him for a transfusion. He gave me one and gave me morphine and he said he was going to go get another blood bag from the car. I waited patiently in the field, and when he was searching through the trunk of the car heavy sniper bullets started raining onto him. I sat in the field and watched as someone from a hill near Kamenka shot a good 15 rounds of m24 or as50 into my little friend and our car - blowing it up. I decided that was enough for one day, layed down in the grass and logged out. DAY 3:This was my final day as a Bandit but an eventful one! I found a bike and decided to head up North, probably to Stary Sabor. On my way there, I came across a perfect-condition car sitting outside of a random town. When I got inside, it was full of food, morphine, blood bags, and a few low rarity guns like AKs and pistols. As I started to drive away, I heard one guy over direct chat say "He's taking my car!!" They shot many rounds at me, but I was out of there fast - getting away with the car intact and my face not blown in! I continued to drive for a few hours in a specific routine - park outside a city, loot it, return to car, rinse repeat. Over this period of 3 or 4 hours of playing I killed 2 more people (In much less-interested ways, just simple sneaking up while they were killing zombies) After this routine I ended up near Berezino, and I looked into the distance to see a downed chopper. As I approached the chopper I saw two guys running towards my car from it. At first I was scared, maybe they'd fire upon me? But then I realized something.. the voice was familiar.. The 14 year old who had driven me earlier was one guy, (Person A) and the other guy was the person I stole the car from. (It must be said that I was not driving the same car, but driving a jeep instead, I simply transferred the gear over because Jeeps are better offroad, so he did not realize I was the same person. Person A kept complaining that he was infected, and so was Person B, so I decided to drive them to Berezino to search the hospital. I took them there and they looked around, not finding antibiotics. I told them to get back in my car while I texted someone quick, but once they got into the back of my jeep, I took out my revolver and aimed at their heads. I said "Sorry, zombie rule #1, never travel with infected!" and shot them both in the head killing them instantly. I felt like a true, proud bandit now - I had killed with stealth, with aggression, and with deception, and it was all to gather gear and survive. I was not killing "Bambis", I was playing the game how a Bandit should, and I was having fun! But of course, as I was in the North Eastern Airfield, karma hit me. Well, a zombie hit me. I got infected and as I casually strolled back to my jeep to get antibiotics, I realized I had none.. I only had half of my blood and that's when I realized the situation was actually extremely urgent.. my blood was going down fast! I was going over 100km/hour down debris filled roads just so I wouldn't bleed out. I got to Berezino, checked the hospital.. none there. I rushed down that road to Elektro and to the hospital, it was then that I realized actually how much this "Infection" plays into this game. It adds (at higher play) a sense of urgency.. a reason to go back to the coast.. it actually *scared* me! I rolled up to Elektro hospital quick, got out, shot out the windows and started to loot. I had a hundred noobs in side chat saying "WHOS CAR IN ELEKTRO?" CAN I HAVE A RIDE?" "SOMEONE SHOOT IT!" After 2 bold survivors with axes tried to take me out (with no success) I started taking sniper fire from the hill and decided to book it to Cherno. My screen was hazy now as I got to the Cherno hospital. I sprinted out of my car and smashed all the windows furiously, Where the fuck was the antibiotics??? I checked last box.. boom, jackpot! There were three antibiotics, I quickly took one. My screen was still hazy and blood was low, but now I could finally relax for a second. I got back to my car and started to head West to Kamenka. As I was driving down the road, a helicopter passed me.. It was towing a large humvee. I stopped on the road briefly to let it pass trying to go undetected, and it started to turn around... I typed into side chat "Helicopter friendly?" The chopper paused a few seconds, and started to unload chain gun into my car. I hopped out and ducked behind my Jeep as a hail of bullets rained down on me. It paused, reloading, and I decided to stand up and return fire with my M4A1. I shot a good 3 clips into the chopper and it flew away briefly. I thought I had won, but as I started to drive away it returned behind me, chasing me and gattling me down simultaneously. I reached Kamenka grocery store and ran in - I watched as the chopper destroyed my Jeep and continued to circle me. After 15 minutes of trying to shoot through the windows and me spraying clips into it when he reloaded, it finally flew away. I stopped for a second and just stood there, catching my breath from all the shit that had happened. Just before I was going to log out, a player (new) ran into the grocery store. All he had was an axe. He screamed "Please don't shoot! I'm friendly, I just got this game!" I was going to shoot him, but decided I'd done enough Banditry that day, and I was out of M4A1 ammo anyways, most of it had burned up in the jeep explosion. I said "It's alright, I won't kill you, I'm out of ammo anyways." He took this advantage to run towards me and hack at me with the axe, as I backed into the corner of the grocery store and screamed "No no no wait wait stop!" Then I died. From a noob with an axe. After all that. Damn I love this game.

I really like this discussion. I think there are a few viewpoints to take on this, I dunno who is right. on one hand you want zombies to be real viable forces that you need to burn up resources to deal with. However with how big and open the world is and when played in a true survival mode (not a server with 500 fully working vehicles) - you are asking an awful lot from a player in terms of committment (time and energy) when you make it extremely difficult to get loot. If it takes 20 hours to get the parts you need to get a car working because zombies are so hard to deal with I don't know who you are appealing to (especially when you factor in human encounters). I only have a few hours a week to play, the most recent core patch made it so hard to get started - zombies were knocking me down constantly, infecting me, it wasn't that much fun. If I had more time maybe but it's asking alot. On the other hand if you make zombies weak and they basically just become background noise then why even have them. And why even have them is a good question. Would Dayz be just as good without zombies and just humans. I think you have a pretty good argument from some that it would be. I think to some the biggest benefit you get from zombies is how they alert you to other humans, that mechanism could easily be done in other ways. To some, a 20 hour gaming session where you are crawling past zombies is fun, to others it's tedious.

Something I mentioned long long ago after playing wasteland was the camouflage netting that we could use to hide things under. Why hasn't something like this been brought into dayz so we can use it to hide a vehicle under or a tent under inside the tree line. It worked great in wasteland for hiding certain things and would be awesome to have that or some kind of a vehicle tarp/cover to hide your stuff. Especially since those white cars stick out like a sore thumb :( Making this or even a camouflage netting lean to or something would be nice, something you can lean up against a tree or house and then put your tent or vehicle underneath. This would help hide certain items and do away with people trying to glitch their tents or vehicles into trees to hide them. ***** Something I think would be awesome to add would be bike crafting ***** being able to take 2 tires, hull, engine and fuel parts and creating a peddle bike (not a car or anything fancy) just a peddle bike :D

What's your opinion on the 1.7.7 patch? (POLL)
tajjuk replied to DayzForumer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not overnight but easily in a few weeks or so. My point is who knows the back story it's part of the joy of Day Z you can make it up yourself make your own story. Thing is you can't say that it's logical based on your opinion of what the story is. From a gameplay point of view to find loot all over the place and not in fairly logical locations is poor IMO. We have infection camps and heli crashes for loot in random places, plus we have US, the players. Some of the best loot I have found has been in odd places in tents, in vehicles and dead bodies. -
Server admin changes within 1.7.7
DJ_Teschmi replied to terrorizer33's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hi, I found some things yesterday evening while browsing my server (1.7.7.1) logs: - If you see something in createvehicle.log is that it is something abnormal and you have to investigate. - If you see something in selectplayer.log is that it is something abnormal and you have to investigate (often a ban). - Hacked weapons and hacked ammo are displayed in the addweaponcargo.log and addmagazinecargo.log and people will be kicked for that. - If you see something in setpos.log is that it is something abnormal and you have to investigate (often a ban). If you see many people at the same time in this log, it's probably because of a hacker was executing a malicious script and you have to cross-check in the remoteexec.log, pubvar.log and script.log to catch the hacker. Setpos of vehicles is a hack except if the vehicle's driver got a desync while driving. - attachto.log is working as usual like in the previous version but you have to check if the objects positions in the logs are always [0,0,0] or [0,1,0]. Wrong positions is a hack, attachto of vehicles is a hack. - If you see something in mpeventhandler.log is that it is something abnormal and you have to investigate (often a ban). - setdamage.log, setvariable.log, publicvariable.log, script.log. remoteexec.log seems to work as usual like in the previous version I can't find any server_console.log but i don't know if it's because of the new version or because of our new provider... Hope it will help ;) DJ Teschmi -
I recently started up a Dayz Origins server for the purpose of exploring the mod and experimenting with building, the new vehicles and the new locations and challenges offered. I'm considering making it public when the 2.0 update comes out but for now it is a private server and we are looking for additional players to explore and test with us, especially now that 1.7.5 is coming out and Fortresses are the new building that will be available. If you are interested message me or leave a line here. Must be 20 years or older Don't need previous experience with Origins. Link to 1.7.5 release notes http://www.gamerspla...5-Release-Notes Server is currently available to 4 players and we are looking to expand that to 10. As stated the purpose of this server is to test Origins, find and report bugs and work together to accomplish tasks that are near impossible for smaller groups. If you are a bandit and can't hang up that hat in this server you need not apply.

On my server we have some few bug with the new version : - When a player just get killed, he got kick from the server (don't know why ?) - The vehicles position aren't saved anymore after each restart it might come from our host, but still weird just after the new patch. Someone else got the same problem ?

hi there! I started to play the mod when it was pretty new. I still experienced teamwork and helping each other.. then came a time when people started to KoS without any reason. Then the hacker came and the game died for me personally. As many said before, Day Z is special because it gives us a tension when we meet another player.. what will he do.. will he trade or attack ? When you can expect other players are attacking 99% of the time there is no point in playing Day Z. There are better shooters out there or you can play Arma 3 wasteland. Day Z is dead with this KoS aspect. Just leaving the CoD kids and hackers behind. Todays servers with 500 vehicles and guns show that. Thats not a game I want to play. BUT I just tried 1.7.7 and have 2 stories for you: 1. I was followed by Zs and was runnung into a building killing one after the other at the entrance.. as I was done I turned around and there was another player, he must have watched me for a while. He didnt attack.. we both saluted and went on doing our thing. I was suprised. 2. I met a guy in a barn.. the long hallway kind of barn. He came closer.. I backed off.. he came closer.. I backed off and stopped, decided to attack if he came into the range of my machete. I heard him cough and he asked if I had antibiotica. I just had 1, but for the sake of the old Day Z spirit I told him: Ok wanna trade ? .. he gave me soda and I gave him antibiotics. Not a good deal.. but the point is, he thanked me, telling me I saved his live.. and left. No attack,, no stabbing me in the back. Im sure he would have killed me if I wouldnt have been careful.. or if he would have a gun.. but in the end I thought this meeting was much cooler than a simple KoS meeting. I just hope standalone is able to revive the spirit of the old days. We need bandits sure.. but if everyone is a bandit its just a simple shooter. Nothing special about it. There are shooters out there with better graphics and better gameplay. I want the survival aspect and the interaction with other players.

Trading, Base building, Activity, Factions! - BSB Epoch!
boxman80 posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Active server recently changed to Epoch and steadily building more players Strong emphasis on Survival/trading but also plenty of PvP! 250 Dynamically spawning basic vehicles (with more advanced and better vehicles available for trade and personal ownership) Base building active Trader cities Personal safes Basic loadout (makarov, 3 mags & 2 bandages)- No pay to win load outs! Usual custom buildings such as extended urban areas, additional fire stations, barracks, apartments, castles etc (Not OP additions like barracks added to Cherno or anything like that!) minimal choppers! - Play Day Z how it was meant to be played with just a handful of choppers that have to be traded! Daylight settings temporary running 24/7 No admin restricted areas or protected bases! Additional weapons and vehicles unlocked Custom ambushes and choke points moderates with limited admin access (so no admin abuse!) to just kick and ban hackers 3 factions fighting against each other (so there's no clan stacking - all our members are divided between the 3 teams!) On going tournaments and events to win in-game rewards or "faction funds" to buy equipment or supplies - earn the dough and reap the rewards! Trader events such as flash sales and treasure hunts! TSW Anti-Hack installed With the recent relaunch (moved server host and changed maps!) and success of our Day Z server, it’s important our server users get affiliated to a faction! Our Chernarus server is a dangerous place with AI and human bandits on almost every hillside, in every city and around every corner! We’re already seeing a lot of casualties though treachery, deception and damn right piracy! The only rules that apply on our server (apart from no cheating!) are faction members cannot fire upon members of their own faction – there is only honour among our factions! Affiliation to a faction at least guarantees your safety (and support) within that faction! Affiliation last the entire course of a Faction Wars season, which are regular events that are hosted on the server and played at specific times, so once you are affiliated with a faction you are bound to them for the long haul, but benefits of being a part of a faction include team loyalty, better event participation and eventually a protected faction base! All three factions are presently open to join and offer various benefits! Ideally, the factions have different goals and approaches (but these arent always set in stone!); Ravens tend to be more "hero” style in their approach, friendly, skill full, stealthy and interested in building bases, helping others and providing protection to bambis and noobs alike! Scorpions are more "bandit" style players, pirates of Chernarus their main objective is self preservation and to f**k up some ones day! They are only loyal to each other and will think nothing of shooting first, asking questions later! Jackals are the newest faction and specialise in base building and trading. They also tend to be a friendly/hero styled faction but have been known to switch their loyalties to the highest bidder! They are kind of a bounty hunter faction! However it’s important to understand that this is only the IDEAL of the factions and there are no obligations for Scorpions to play bandit, Ravens to play hero – Ravens can be as cold and ruthless in their daily excursions and Scorpions can be friendly and helpful, it’s entirely up to you how you wish to play! To apply to a faction simply click visit the faction wars page here;- http://www.bsbnetwork.com/dayz -

What's your opinion on the 1.7.7 patch? (POLL)
Melone (DayZ) replied to DayzForumer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ha, this poll isnt fair because all the unsatisfied players already switched to other games ;-) I ve already lost "friends" I played with in the last month. Today I found a server with the following settings DE 1000 NPC fortress 350 vehicles fixed loot + infection !!! real crashsites buildings extra barracks wrecks care packages dayonly autorefuel repair stations open roads start equipment active admins no zombies This sounds like fun. 34 Players at this time, ranked at the first place. Ok, the last point was added by me, couldnt resist :-P -
who feels like this new patch was a big kick up the private hive,s ass
SmashT replied to smokey0159's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I agree with Bad_Mojo that hacking really isn't that prevalent on the public hive anymore, whether that is because most servers are private hives nowadays or it's due to improvements in security I couldn't say but it's no longer an issue. This is coming from someone who stopped playing on the public hive entirely around August last year because it was so bad. I've been back on the public hive for a couple of months now and haven't had any problems. I will say if it weren't for private hives the mod would probably be dead right now, I know I would have stopped playing last year primarily due to the issues with cheaters if it weren't for them. The custom maps/mods the community have created are also fantastic and bring a breath of fresh air to DayZ. However, personally I hope we don't see privates hives in the standalone for a long time, the changes made will (hopefully) address the issues with hacking and I think there are better ways of working with content/map creators then allowing server admins to do anything they want. I'd rather see the community given tools to create stuff and maybe using something like steamworkshop so community content can be rated and given feedback and the best submissions reviewed and implemented by the DayZ team into an official build (maybe we would have an official Namalsk hive and an offocial Taviana Hive etc instead of having thousands of servers where the experience is totally different every time every time you play and half the servers have starting loadouts, thousands of vehicles, admin bases, donator perks etc. It's also worth pointing out that Rocket has said the private hives won't be available for a while, you can host your own server from day one but it will connect to the central server. If you are expecting private hives anytime soon you are probably going to be disappointed. -
Are you looking to avoid the servers with hundreds of vehicles and barracks everywhere? Well, I've got a server for you. 192.31.185.212:3017 As of right now, there is a 60 vehicle spawn limit. No customization of any kind to the scripts or map. What Rocket releases is what you get. Basic starting gear includes: Bandage Hatchet 1 Anti-B One Soda One Bean Feel free to join us!

- FPS issues are worse for me and the group of people that I play with than.1.7.7. In 1.7.6.1 I rarely dropped below 100fps, now I never see above 60 and less than 15 is quite common. - Parachutes sometimes don't disappear after detaching from player. - Players/vehicles sometimes down spawn where they last saved/logged out. No where near in some cases. Destroyed vehicles routinely respawn fixed where they were destroyed. - AN2 spawns in the debug plains. - Tents do not place any where near where the player is looking. Random direction and distance from the player. - Can't reload the PKTs in the MI-17. Huey works as intended. Probably not a bug: We had a hacker hit our server and try to teleport everyone, the game kicked every single player for setPos restriction. Awesome job keeping players from getting killed, but everyone getting kicked was hard to take.

Keep inmind this is a copy and paste from a post i made earlier. The issue you are having is very unique which most games have never and mostly will never run the way arma 2 games run but seeing how dayz and arma 3 have made such a name, you can expect many great game in the future, so if you enjoy armas delightful design and gameplay then a Solid State Drive would highly benefit you in more ways than just one. The problem you are having is your 7200rpm HDD has mechanical moving parts, at 7200rpm just isn't fast enough. You see, arma 2 run's it's game through hundreds of Image files called PBO files, which have many different functions. Such as, Weapons, air, sound, water, environment, trees, grass, vehicles, skin models, anything and everything you see in arma 2 is because of those files. Now, arma 2 runs entirely off Indexing those PBO files, thats why a 7200rpm Harddrive cannot dish out the index fast enough for the processor and gpu, For example, your cpu and gpu are sitting there tapping their feet, waiting for the harddrive to give the data needed for the cpu and gpu to move forward at a stable rate. Now, 2 ways to do this, 1 being the one i recommend the most. Is buy a SSD set it up as a 2ndary harddrive and install only steam and all of arma games to it and use it as a gaming/video harddrive then use the HDD you have now as the main HDD that holds the OS and main system files. Or you could get a SSD to fit your entire computer on, though, i do not recommend that because the life of a SSD does not compare to the life of a HDD by any means, if a HDD burns, you can retrieve the lost data, if a SSD burns out, data is lost for ever, cannot ghost or retrieve data from a Burnt SSD. Hence the reason i strongly recommend it as a 2ndary!
