    Spawn changes need to be changed

    Play what game though? What does scouring various small towns along your ultimate route of military loot accomplish? Those towns have nothing of value outside of the hunger/thirst system. There are no tents to hunt down, there are no vehicles to fix, there are no random events, no heli crashes, etc. From the second you spawn the end game is military loot, from spawn to military loot there's nothing to do other than loot small towns for items that are irrelevant. This change needed to happen after some more stuff was implemented. That way when I walk towards the endgame loot, like everyone ultimately will at some point in this game, there is stuff to encounter and do along the way that will actually engage me instead of me just walking by yet another small town that has more beans/water that I don't need.

    Good point. Hopefully this thread inspires people to start thinking about the expansion of DayZ that will inevitably come! I called them luxuries because I am a pessimist! haha. So no offensive! As far as vehicles go: Do you think a running train is out of the question? Not a "Cho Cho All Aboard!" train but perhaps a salvaged train that is turned into an "apocalyptic cab". It would be interesting to see people travelling along the railroad. Hell, I would even settle for a handcar.

    Spawn changes

    The only places to get top gear are military spots, this current change makes arriving at one a 20-40 min process of running. There is absolutely nothing to do in this game between spawning and running to get military gear outside of the hunger/thirst system. This change needed to be delayed until there was stuff to do during this run, such as heli crashes, hunting player tents, vehicles, random events, etc. Until then, it's just a tedious game of either rushing to military loot via a 40 min run or spending hours slowly searching every place along the way to military loot during which you accomplish basically nothing because looting the average small town does nothing because they have nothing of value in them. Only to end up dead once you get there by the guy who got there hours or days ago and just camps the spawn with full gear because they got absolutely nothing else to do in this game.

    Agreed, there is absolutely zero reason to do absolutely anything outside of a big city or military loot currently. This change should have waited until heli crashes/other random events, player storage (tent hunting), and possibly vehicles. These things create a reason to stop between spawn > axe/water/food/bag > run 20 min to military loot. Currently none of this exists, there is no reason at all to stop anywhere from spawn to military loot outside of basic thirst/hunger mechanics. There is no vehicle to come upon to repair, there is no tent to find for loot, there is no heli crash to go loot. There is just a bunch of empty roads, empty fields, with random scattered small towns which are absolutely irrelevant to run past. There needs to be something meaningful to do during this 20+ min run to military loot.

    What, exactly, is the point of this game?

    Firstly, none of us are actually playing the DayZ game. We are alpha testing an early access title. This game is going to include many of the features of the mod. The old mod site described the game as 1. Scavenge. 2 Kill bandits/zombies 3. Survive. Really, that's it. That is all there is to this game. But I like the Lego analogy, because if you get bored in a sandbox game then You. Have. No. Imagination. Someone may ask what the purpose of a box of Lego pieces is, confused because there is no instructions or clear goal like if you opened the box to board game like monopoly for example. There will never be a 'goal' or 'objective' to the game. Just survive as long as you can with the tools the game gave you. Now you may be thinking "That sound really boring, it's really easy to survive in the alpha right now and zombies are no threat or even fun to kill." And you would be right to an extent. Here are some features the mod had which added long term goals to survival to make projects to work towards during survial to make it more challenging and fun. *Tents/Stashes - Use these to stock pile gear, hide them in the forest and return to them after you get killed to re-supply quicker. That way you are not just playing for your current character, but your future characters too. *Vehicles/Helis - These used to be quite time consuming to repair and refuel. Repairing a vehicle from a broken state to fixed provided me hours of fun in the mod as I or my squad would run around trying to get all the right parts together after discovering it. *High end gear - The mod had rare and high end items that kept a player searching around (ghillie suits, e-tools, Range-finder, NVGs, high-end guns/ammo) So, once that stuff is implemented to the Alpha it will give us a lot more to keep us busy. Once you have everything listed above comes the real challenge of how to stay busy or how to keep from being bored in this game. Now of course once you have all this stuff you have to hold onto it right? And there will be plenty of people that are going to find your camp and try to raid it. If you have stockpiled tonnes of gear and holding onto it you must be playing on a low-pop server. The people that say "I have all the high end gear and can survive so I have essentially 'finished' this game, I'm bored, what do I do now?" have no imagination and are missing the point of a game like DayZ. Here are some things which have kept me busy having fun in the mod once me and my squad had bases/gear/vehicles/helis: *Start a war or feud with another group, raid their base. This kept me and my team entertained for weeks until the other group got tired of us dominating them and left the server lol *Try to go all hero style and offer help to newbies. Give them rides, give them supplies. Patch them up and send them on their way. *Hunt bandits (more challenge/fun than hunting newbies) go looking for groups of bandits preying on newbies. Sniper hill in elektro used a be a good place to check *Start a Coast Patrol or Cherno Police Force group and restore order to chernarus for a few hours *Start a bandit group and create chaos for a few hrs. *start a trading or medical post for a few hrs. protect it from bandits. *take over a military base for period, seeing how many people you can fend off * do silly stuff. eg gather a massive train of zeds and have someone run them over in tractor. *work in a team, use a 'bait' player to gauge peoples intentions, then have your snipers hit them if they turn hostile. *rig a car-bomb onto a car then leave it parked somewhere where people will find it and wait. used to do this on DayZ Caribou *go all predator on people. stalk them and whisper over direct "i see you" then watch them freak out. *use satchel charges. *use your imagination and maybe if you can afford it go play the mod or some of the arma3 spinoffs like breaking point while DayZ SA gets fleshed out.

    Why DayZ needs an RPG part.

    I could see some sort of "practice makes perfect" system, totally invisible, which made it so that you got slightly faster or more effective at various tasks. Transfusions for example, could be a task that takes a long time the first time you do it, but you gradually become better at it. There could be greater risks for medical procedures until you've had some experience at it, or fixing vehicles could be a process you need to work at a bit the first few times. That said your DayZ character is an extension of you. Rather than say " Ding! You gain a point to Stealth" you realize that running along a treeline is better than skipping across an open field. Or that sometimes the smart thing to do is leave the zombies alive and lull others into a false sense of security. Every time you respawn you level up because hopefully you're more careful not to be such a careless dumbass the next time. If I ever had to "spec" my DayZ character or the game played some little sound when I gained a new "point" I think I'd shoot my computer and take up knitting.

    Well there IS going to be vehicles but for the most part it's more of a vanity item. You shoot it because it's fun to shoot, it's intimidating and it's absolutely ridiculous. I'm against the whole .50 sniper thing simply because it provides the ultimate choice in anti-personel / vehicle, but without scopes, sights or zeroing you're basically going to have to learn how this gun shoots, it won't be very effective against people but it will provide a solid choice for vehicle traps / fun factor shooting. I'm sure there could be a fix for this :p
  8. This is sort of how the mod is right now, they'll more than likely have something similar. AFAIK Rocket wants it so that we can remove/add parts to vehicles, IE you might find a Skoda on the side of the road, you already have a working one but it's driver's door is in better condition than yours. So you remove that door and replace the one on yours and drive off.

    I don't think you've ever played the mod by that statement...... People saying leave it the way it is usually don't mean: keep it alpha. pretty sure they mean keep it on the path relative of the mod which does include vehicles and base building (but the mod did not have item degradation as far as i know without being shot so they will probably need to have upkeep
  10. It's up to you how you play it, no quests or anything, you make up your own narrative and play how you like. At the moment my 'quest' is visiting all the towns to find out what loot is about, how to get to places and learning the map. I like meeting up with strangers and encounters with bandits. A huge amount of features aren't even implemented yet such as vehicles, hunting etc so it will only get deeper the further into development it goes.     I like how you post a poll that doesn't support even your idea by a long shot. Although i do support the harsher environment ie more zombies. possibly different types of zombies(not really sure). Base building requires multiple people but not sure if rocket will put in epoch stuff. Also vehicles maintenance will require multiple people (as items degrade now so will tires and engines by theory).

I'm starting to see this turn more and more into an epoch thing lol, epoch had a really good idea in where you could build anything really that your heart desires within reason, I would love to see epoch meet standalone meet possibly origins? Where you have survivor traders and building supplies and the modifiable vehicles along possibly with lockable cars and such that could be broken into with simple things like a hot wire kit or a stone to a window which in turn sets off the car alarm and attracts zombies and players alike to the area of that alarm. And maybe craft-able canvas from clothing, but you need several articles of clothing to craft a single canvas so it is not overpowered where you could craft large and small tents alike where you could actually enter them and get into their gear and it closes so that zombies can't get in and you could also have it so that they can be cut open with sharp objects such as knives to hatchets. Just an idea.

    Well what you've done so far is basically the outline of what you can do at the moment. When the game is more developed there will be more for you to do. A large part of DayZ is exploring the map, collecting gear, encountering friendlies and bandits and surviving. The game will become a lot more fun when vehicles, more weapons/clothing are implemented etc.

    There is no end game, no quests or missions, you just have to survive for as long as you can :D Eventully there will be vehicles, more players, private and public hives where your character is saved, you will be able to build and so much more. Best thing you can really do is stop now and come back when the game is complete.

    first person only servers are empty cause every shithead have a easier option, just like it is in the mod, with the 999999 vehicles, spawn with AS50 servers. Most of the vanilla servers are empty, guess why? remove the easier option and everybody will play it anyway, the shittier players will start QQing all day long on servers, but just deal with it. As rocket is always mentioning, this game isnt supposed to be easy, it's supposed to be cruel and aim for a realistic experience, so why all people walk aroung with their eyes 5m above his head?

    But you're not really missing anything because there's literally zero reason to go into one of the small towns on the way to military loot unless you're literally about to die from hunger or thirst. Once you got an axe, backpack, food, and water - things you get fast in the larger towns, you don't need small towns they don't spawn weapons much, there's no variety of weapons in them anyway. This only changes which small towns you run by on your way to military loot and makes it more running to get to the military loot. It doesn't change the fact that you have no reason to do anything on "this wonderful map" without heli crashes, vehicles, etc. This is hardly going to expand player interaction pushing a small base of 40 people max into the map in general walking vaguely towards military loot on their own paths. But I guess going back to walking towards military loot into a bunch of people camping the spot waiting for you so they can gun you down with their superior weaponry is top priority around this place because there's no reason to leave the military gear area once you get there, just sit around and wait for people to show up.

    you forgot to add, "3rd person should be removed except we want 3rd person for vehicles to remain"... i like how most of them will pick and choose whats acceptable given how they like to play. then expect everyone else to be on board.. quite laffable.

    Technically 3rd person view is cheating since you have a significantly wider view of the area around your character. Unrealistic in a game that aims for as much realism as possible. That being said, I don't really care that it unbalances things. It makes sneaking up on someone more difficult and driving vehicles something other than a living hell.
  20. I know this is my first post. Like there is no way in hell rocket is going to see this. But I just feel like sharing it to everyone to see how they feel about this. So basically, I live in an area that gets snow. And playing this game my friend and I thought about them making a snow based map. Just the possibilities that could come from that are just so amazing. Like there could be snowstorms, which can do two things, make it hard to see, and raise the snow level making it harder to walk through the snow. Yes it would be a pain in the ass. But the experience that could come out of it. Also, when and if they get vehicles, they could add snowmobiles, make it so you can form plows to plow your way through the snow. Just unlimited amount of ideas can from this...well not unlimited but whatever. Comment if you want..

    Removing all loot, adding 3k+ zombies

    Whatever they do in the future I really hope they won't be considerate of some players fear to lose their gear during an early access alpha. Some people here act like they bought a final product and now they ask for more weapons, vehicles, solutions for KoS, server hopping and better gameplay etc. The real (technical) problems the game currently has, e.g. no zombies, shall kindly be solved along the way. The alpha isn't there to provide us with a comfortable gaming experience until the game goes final, it's part of the game developing process where all sorts of things may be tested. As I already said before, I wasn't dead serious with my initial post. Although I wouldn't mind If some radical tests like this (or any other form) would lie ahead of us.

    Dayz mod or Dayz standalone?

    The mod is a mod for ARMA2:Operation Arrowhead, during steam sales you can usually pick ARMA2:OA for about 12$, the mod features many weapons and vehicles mostly taken directly from ARMA2. The standalone is a completly new game that currently goes for 30$, its price will increase in the future, at the moment it is a very early alpha of the game where there isn't a lot of content, there are no vehicles at all and only 4 weapons are currently in the game. The map has been redesigned and is much nicer although generally similar to the one found in the mod version, however, the mod version also has many different maps and mods created by players. The standalone is more in-depth in some aspects such as wilderness survival and medical systems. Both are fun but generally I think I would stick to the mod for at least a few month, especially if you have no experience with DayZ at all. I've went back to playing the mod after playing the Standalone since its release, it's very different but for pure entertainment value the mod currently wins, this will probably not be the case in the future.

    Is there any Helicopter crash site areound DayZ GAME?

    There are not helicopter crashes in the SA and there will never be scripted events in the servers according to rocket. The only heli crashes i would be expecting in the dayz standalone is player caused crashes. There is of course crashed vehicles, Including helicopters, throughout the map in which loot may spawn... This is not a scripted event it's simply just part of the map and is nothing significant. If you want good loot in the SA go to the military bases, fire stations, and hospitals upon fresh restarts of the servers.
