Thank God for private hives and people with common sense. 1000+ vehicles server, umad?

Le Sigh....dumb poster is the dumb. Before I start I'm going to say this, You know this game is in Alpha. As I've stated in a half a dozen posts, if you'd botheer to read anything from the devs, you'd know why there aren't many zombies. In videos where people are riding in cars...you're watching videos for the Mod, not the standalone. Vehicles haven't been added yet. As far as food, weapons, backpacks, and other goodies, you're likely going into the coastal towns, which are usually picked pretty clean since that's where everyone spawns. Move inland to have a better chance of finding things or move to a low populated server to gear up if you absolutely feel that you must. That said, I've never had any problems finding anything. I come across 2 or three backpacks an hour. Food is all over, finding something to open cans is a bit more challenging. Use a fireaxe, screwdriver, hacksaw or any sharp or pokey weapon. You'll spill some of the food, but it's better than starving. Finding a gun can be a bit more difficult. Check fire stations, air fields, barracks, refugee camps, hangers, those long storage houses, or the big metal ones. TEC buildings too sometimes. Go to dayzdb.com, it has marker locations of where you are likely to find things. As for things being clumsy, it's alpha. As for controls, check the keybindings. This game doesn't hold your hand. If it did, you would start with more than a flashlight and a battery. Play ARMA II and the mod if you want some sort of idea, or check the forums for newb guides. There's tons of them. I'm sorry that you are lazy and been coddled too much by games like BF and COD. This game is much like the apocalypse, it's a cold bitch, even more cruel at times than S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I've never had a problem finding anything. Surviving long enough to get your hands on it is another matter entirely, but I've gotten a lot better. My REg/Vet character is fully decked and armed well enough to fight off small army, with almost 2 and a half weeks of survival time under his belt. My New hardcore mode character...well...lets just say he's surviving. He may be half dead but he's survived a few days now of rampant running aimlessly with a small group of maniacs playing the game of 'How long can we survive in Cherno while playing like we don't give a fuck. WE all got fully armed in about an hour, on full servers no less, and only one of us has died in almost a week, and that was only because someone played 'I'ma run through this tree while Westerburg is playing Joaquin Phoenix in Signs with a half a dozen zombies and a fireaxe.' We laughed for a good ten minutes while he bled to death and his body slid across the outskirts of cherno with two guys chasing him and attempting to put a bandage on the poor SOB. Long story slightly less long, you're looking in the wrong towns on the wrong servers and associating the wrong videos with the wrong version of the game, not to mention not bothering to read the forums before you post. WEsterburg out....

Shut your face. There will be 1000 vehicles per server, deal with it. Grand Theft DayZ.
-
Just add the fucking vehicles already. No vehicles on a 225km2 map is really cringeworthy.
-
When they add vehicles whats going to end up happening is a couple people per server are going to rush to get them and as soon as they get them a massive horde of players are going to swarm to their location if they go anywhere near a city with it. The reason why this wasn't a problem in the mod is because there were a lot of vehicles and they were expendable, in Standalone I assume they would be both loud and rare, not what you want to put your entire group in. Thats why when the add bikes I am hesitant on using them for the first couple weeks because having a bike when they first come out I feel like is going to be asking to get shot.

This Is To Help Companies That Rent Out Servers To Players.
byrgesen replied to Robert Millette's topic in Suggestions
We had this in the MOD and it turned into a giant, uncontrolled, admin abuse, clusterfuck. No thanks, nobody, besides BI, should have anything to say when it comes to what an admin can or cannot do, nobody. For the love of god, dont give admins power like they had in the mod. Sure let them have powers like kick/ban, but no spawning of any kind, no teleporting and please please please, no live tracking of players. We also really need to be carefull, when it comes to giving options like +100 vehicles, spawn loadout and so on. The chances of someone abusing it, is simply to high. And the whole point of SA isnt to "make 100 different games" really, its Dean's vision, this game will be exactly like he wants it to be, so it might not be for everybody. Im sorry, but people got spoiled with the mod, because it was a mod, so now they expect the same kind of "false freedom" in the actual game. I truly hope they wont buckle under, from the pressure, and i hope they will keep theese things out of DayZ for ever. -

Right, this information is correct, however my general view is that the hive should remain untouched by excess influence giving the game its natural state as its developers have intended. Overloading vehicles and starting loadouts onto servers would be bad, in the future if private hives make a return I would not mind administrators absorbing more control but inevitably if it gets to that stage the server providers will be competing to offer more of what you are talking about at better prices and so forth. -
My guess, is as with the guns and other items, vehicles will be done from scratch, so while we may end up with similar vehicles as the mod(due to the setting), I imagine they will not be exactly the same as the mod.

Haha I haven't seen this patch being broken either Dezind , I think it's just you :P I love this patch , I found a dude running around smashing into shelves in the hospital because his friends (friends?) put a burlap sack over his head and left him for dead lol . it's little things like that that make this game what it is , so I can't wait for barricades vehicles and base building =D -
I am guessing summer, it will most likely (at least vehicles with engines) be one of the "last" features they implement.

Fixed towing on many epoch vehicles, vodniks, landrovers, humvees

These suggestions will be numbered in order of importance. More scheduled updates (periodic and near definite update ETA's) Optimization, most computers can barely handle this. Clans and clan patches, (Friends will be able to invite friends into clans and being in a clan will give a patch on some clothing gear such as shirts and backpacks). Bandit and Hero skins, very different looks between bandits, survivors, and heroes are important. Fix death and wall glitches (random deaths, and somehow getting inside walls with no escape). More zombies (ones that roam the ENTIRE map, in the forest, the fields and even from town to town). Hunting and adding animals / cooking. Underground areas (anything from military to old mine shaft style and eventually able to create them) More gun placement spawns (same spawn rate but more areas like houses and other buildings beside firehouse and military). Small building features (like barbed wire, start with small things and every update or so add another object) When vehicles are introduced and sever population gets bigger: A bigger map, islands and other places maybe even the size of the main land. Please comment more suggestions or even change the order! Hopefully these will be put in for the next update.

A tactical survival game is a name you gave it, but in its current conditions I'd hardly call it that, and we all know Dayz is not a tactical survival game. Maybe before, when you could hunt, get sick/infected and build vehicles and store items... maybe.. But this Dayz standalone is not turning out to be the such, and he's trying to force it to be one by forcing spawns on the East coast. Dayz is fun the way it was, with tons of weapons, vehicles, spawning on the coast, good loot in the North, it just needed more optimization and custimization, but now he's trying to stray away from what good came from the mod and make it a new game. I guess I'm just being over dramatic, but I kinda want my old Dayz back with some new cool shiz :/

I would personally love to see campfires and tents. In fact, aside from vehicles and the new AK coming out, they are the most anticipated things for me. Storage and the ability to light up the night with a fire with friends. Add a pot on a gas stove and some cans of beans going around and all is well. cannot wait for both!! -
Loot is not currently spawning in tents and vehicles

What Alpha Is Supposed To Be (A Discussion On Dev Direction And If The Game Will Ever Be Completed)
fitzee replied to jovlon's topic in General Discussion
OP your right I'm no game developer, but I have no doubt that you aren't either. If you were why would you be wasting your time trying to derail this game. You say your trying to have a valid discussion, sigh, read your opening post, there isn't really anything valid about it. Looks like you just want to complain that there isn't vehicles yet. I tried to explain a little of what I know about Bohemia to you, because you obviously don't know anything about them, and you dismissed me with the fanboys and trolls. The way I see it, there isn't anything valid about you. Flash based mario game  funny stuff, as I said your right I'm no game developer. I have been making addons/mods for games since 1998, but being just a hobbyist 3d modeller, I definitely wouldn't call my self a dev. Since you are so butthurt about the direction DayZ SA is taking why not just cut your losses and bugger off, instead of trying to convince the people that like it that they shouldn't. Regards. -
I've got a nice Epoch server, but I have Auto-refuel, along with god mode trader cities. Really that's about it, so if you want to drop by then I'm down, 147.255.183.146:2302 But if you're really looking for a complete vanilla Epoch of somewhat server or Chernarus etc.. I just have to wish you luck, been in search of one for a bit back before I got my new server. We have around 100 vehicles, I can for sure that. I hope xD G'day mate!

Hey hey I'm liking Standalone, but it's one for the future for me. I want a bit more to my game, but with some elements similar to it. It has a better feel of raw survival, so I'm wanting to join a server that is challenging both in raw survival against elements and against human players. Map - Chernarus, Namalsk or Taviana preferably Vehicles - at the most 100, preferably under 50 Scripts - no auto refuel, a very basic loadout (or nothing at all), nothing that wipes the players arse really, no god mode trader cities (if Epoch) Anything like this out there? I know most folk used to play like this, but moved on to 1000 vehicle servers etc... Based in the UK myself Thanks

What Alpha Is Supposed To Be (A Discussion On Dev Direction And If The Game Will Ever Be Completed)
fitzee replied to jovlon's topic in General Discussion
Funny. A guy who claims to be a game developer is going to call gamers fanboys. C'mon, be honest, I'm guessing that "Part of the reason that I feel like there is cause of concern is because" your an adolescent who feels all butthurt because you don't have vehicles in the game yet. Regards. -
What Alpha Is Supposed To Be (A Discussion On Dev Direction And If The Game Will Ever Be Completed)

Hi. You know, if bohemia was just after a fast buck with no intention of finishing the game, they probably would have done something much easier, like simply repacking ArmA 2 without all the assets the Dayz mod didn't use and relabeling it DayZ Standalone. Why bother making engine changes? Why bother reworking the map? Why bother remaking anything? You mention vehicles, guess what, just like my last sentences, they could have used the old ones with the exact same older system. Do you(OP) even know anything about Bohemia? They are a relatively small indy company. They don't release a lot of games, but when they do, they support them and add content for years, unlike the AAA companys that release a new version of their titles yearly. It was clearly stated the game probably wouldn't even reach beta stage for over a year. Not sure where the confusion comes from. PS Anybody can come in here and state they are a 'fellow developer' and use that as a way to disprove others opinion. I'm not sure why you would think anybody would be obligated to believe you. Especially since you don't even seem to know there's a new trend of early access alphas. Regards. -
It does not take 30mins from Solnichniy to get to a town that may have houses to loot, Solnichniy itself may have stuff left over from other survivors. Key is to actually search. With the advent of vehicles it won't make things any easier, you'll still have to fix them and that will be quite a chore in itself. I think you need to change your playstyle a bit and realize that DayZ does not give you anything on a silver platter. Once you realize this you'll do a lot better at working for what you need. It's early days and if you're disappointed now you're only going to be moreso later in the piece. Welcome to DayZ!
-
Even when they do add vehicles your still going to have to run a lot, it not like they will be all fixed up just sitting on the coast.
-
Its not a bug so you will just have to wait for them to get released. If you dont like running around dont play DayZ. Even if vehicles get in it wont be easy to get one.

List of things that I feel this game needs either implemented or changed; HOSTAGES When you have been handcuffed you have 3 options; - Wriggle out until you're free - Wait until your captor lets you go/kills you - Log out and kill yourself (which leads to you losing all your gear) When you become restrained people just fuck with you until you die from bleach poisoning, throwing up all your insides or your captors just become bored and end you. To deal with the torment, people just log out and kill themselves. The 'insta-death' solution to captivity-loggers doesn't work at all, as the whole point of it is to keep restrained players restrained, and many players would rather lose all their gear than be tortured. This kind of defeats the point of being able to take hostages. Whats the point of taking the risk to get close to another player (a possible threat) and handcuff them if they're just not going to give two fucks otherwise and log off immediately. It would be quicker and a lot safer just to shoot them. Plus, if you're a Hero restraining bandits, it gives them a faster way of breaking free. I propose perma-captivity. This means that a player stays restrained until they either break free of the restraints themselves, or are executed. Logging out causes a players character to stay in the game until they are freed or killed. At this time, captors can do whatever they want to a captives character: Move them, transport them, loot them, kill them, it doesn't matter. Server hopping should definitely be removed for this to work effectively, and while I don't mind server hopping too much, I despise players who escape my restraints by logging out. Players want a hardcore, post-apocalyptic, zombie survival FPS - this is a mechanic to suit. This should be implemented if player housing is going to be a thing. Slave dungeons and bandit prisons, I'm all up for. My outfit and I used to play Origins, and everyone knows that if you have a decent group of players, or if you put enough effort into making a house, you aren't going to leave that server any time soon. This removes the detachment that people have for their current DayZ survivors, as they are more inclined to care about the effort that they went through for attaining materials and crafting recipes for the houses. Simply switching server would give you a brand new character, which reiterates the 'logging out and starting fresh' approach to escaping the bonds. But that player also has a house that isn't on this new server, their own personalised abode is no longer with them, and they'll have to go through all that effort to start anew. FIRING FROM VEHICLES Should definitely be a thing. Sure it seems OP if you have a group of 6 guys packed into the 4 seater Hilux with two in the tray. But of course you'd have the balancing effect of rough terrain and inertia throwing off a players aim similar to (or even greater than) the way strafing does. Three extra points; an occupant can only have a specific firing angle from inside the car. They're more protected sure, but it's limited to an open window. They can open passenger windows or the windscreens (front and back) by shooting it out which will give them a greater firing angle, but also reduce their protection, and create the chance for them to actually damage the car from the inside out. Having the ability to create damage to the hull of the car by an occupants inability to analyse his firing angle or judge the terrain a driver is traversing will have a negative effect on the vehicle, thus creating another thing to be cautious of. Shooting to break windows open will require new windscreen parts to be attached. To negate the above two effects, a passenger can 'turn out' and be exposed to a greater range of enemy fire, but also extend their firing angle simultaneously. Their aim is still affected by inertia etc. and will still be able to shoot the vehicle they're in by accident, and even have the chance to kill another passenger who also decides to turn out. A driver should have the ability to fire a weapon, but only as small as a PDW or similar sidearm with a highly limited focus on either firing angles, or multi-tasking (i.e. have a limited amount of car control while leaning out of the vehicle etc). BURIED CACHES & PUMP SHOTTY I've heard something about buried stashes being implemented, but do not know much on the details so I'm proposing how I feel they should behave. Once again, a DayZ Origins story, but we collected a few of those weapon crate/lockbox things and scattered them around the map, filling them with random but useful gear that we may have needed to utilise in a time of crises. One gripe we had about them was that they were too obvious, and stuff would sometimes go missing even though we dumped a large amount of thought into placing them and concealing them. I wish for these same types of lockboxes, that can be placed both above ground and buried. While buried, the ground would look disturbed on top of their location, but would work as concealment enough that a player would not recognise it if they weren't particularly searching for them. Last but not least: please add the Mossberg or 870, pretty pleeeeeaaassseee?? I've always liked the pump action shotty in many of my zombie games, but DayZ was the only game in which I've never been fond of them. Why? Because you Never. Racked. The. Slide. It's probably the most badass thing about the pump action shotty. Not only that, but it's probably viewed as the number one zombie fighting weapon. It was the same problem with Lee Enfields and Mosins that were used in the mods. They felt so awkward to use, even though the round from them almost always killed you, and if it didn't it knocked you out. Now that the bolt action rifles have the bolt pulling animation, I feel like a fucking pro using them, and there's the placebo effect of the gun feeling so much more solid. So please, if you give me at least one of my pump shotty's with an awesome pump animation, I will rack off to this game for the rest of my life. cwutididthar

add in "My Little Ponies" as vehicles as well... Only two ponies "with wings" per server please! "My little ponies" shouldn't be able to crash inton one another either, that'd cause PvP. We must maintain a balance to the game while also remaining true to it's spirit! ;-)
