Quick Question . Is Combat Logging fixed meanwhile?
MethHeadMario replied to garack (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
They have a fix for combat logging but they won't turn it on until they are sure the server's can handle it.. I recently started a thread about Combat Logging, Ghosting, and Server Hopping where someone gave me the info about what Rocket said about the combat logging.. -
Prevent Server Hop to Backdoor & Wall Leaning
gerbilschooler replied to Dunxel's topic in Suggestions
Already been discussed. They are already going to implement something to curb hopping and ghosting... it just might take a while, who knows. And, you did not even suggest your own idea to help prevent it... your post is pretty useless -
I was going to say combat logging or ghosting, because these are fixable and even more annoying. I've played using TeamSpeak and without. Yes, with an organized group on TS against you, you're probably going to have a bad time. My advice is for you to do the same as those groups because you're right, it's a losing battle.

I am legitimately scared every time I log in
pilgrim* replied to Dr. Phil's topic in New Player Discussion
Hey people Is'nt all this thread because at the moment there are 2 guns + 3 military locations, and NO survival or crafting or hunting - so the game comes down to a kind of capture the flag where you have to get the STANDARD LOOT before the other players get it, and everyone knows where it is... and THEN what have you got left to do?? ... unlike the mod, you can learn the whole SA (as it stands) in 2 days, do everything there is to do, then .. repeat... repeat... so AT the MOMENT its just like any 50 games - its CoD except you have to go and find your gun first... I got shot and looted (KoS naturally, is there anything else except 'run away'?), and by amazing chance respawned close and, what the hell, went back to my body in the time limit... the killer had taken ONLY ammo.. I had 3 sacks of rice and 3 water bottles in my pack and TO ME that's the key stuff, some good camo/green, pristine clothes with plenty of pockets, a handgun, boots.. to me the 3 sacks of rice and the three bottles were the most important... with those you can live for days and travel far. He left all that stuff, just took the ammo. Because once you have your gun and your cool shades, then what do you do next? You eat 1 whole can of beans, drink 2 colas (and that's your 'survival' sorted out for the evening) , then go shoot it up. There's little or no communication because theres no sidechannel - which should be keyboard only - so none of those "help me" messages, or 'noob lost in the forest', or other interesting stuff that added a dimension to the mod - including the possibility of talking enought to judge if you trusted someone (maybe you were wrong) and the chance to meet up with players, strangers, or make friends... that's not there now. AND if you WERE a survivalist on the mod, then there's plenty of stress when you hunt, someone might hear the shots, or see you making a fire, and you HAVE to go into town because you need antibiotics and bandages... and town may be full of team battles and/or ghosting snipers. So - in the SA at the moment, if you meet someone you expect them to shoot or run, never to talk. (The only people I've voice-spoken to 2 months have been holed up, frightened, and say "Go Away") .. so maybe they feel the same about communication.. they just dont risk it. I went on a <<NO PVP, Only PVE Cooperation>> server yesterday, to say hello - I said 'hello"' and was shot in the head. (lol) It's the different people with different game styles and attitudes that made the mod great - plus the crazy zombies changing at every update. At the moment we only have "get a gun, eat a can, go shoot" with teams on private teamspeak, very little chance of talking to THEM. So the game is workable at the base level for the bang-bang players. Its a good enough start. - it will get better - but SURE, if you get shot every time, or you have to shoot, the surprise wears off.. (its just another FPS standard game) The danger and the STRESS is in moving from tree to tree, guarding your back, crossing open country in dead ground, run zigzag - crawling past those zombies checking which way they turn, how close they come, and sneaking into town when you have NO bandages, realizing there's someone else in this forest, doing your run in to the supermarket when you know there's zombie agro nearby, maybe someone crouched behind that last shelf, checking the hospital roof for movement, trying to make sure you dont get trapped in the apartments with a BUNCH of zombies coming up (they keep coming) and you just heard a couple of bandits shooting on the top floor so now MORE zombs are running in. Oops.. bad scene.. maybe you can lie flat in a back room and let the bandits pull the agro? .that's all STRESS, which is what the game is about. I killed a guy on a staircase he couldnt turn his gun around to shoot straight (he came to get ME) and he was stuck on 2 dead zombs, me too, I kept hitting the wall with my axe, but I got him.. blood dripping to the floor below... then out in nowhere you hear the flies buzzing so you know there's a body (and maybe a live killer) around here (you ever run bleeding looking for a bandage cause you dont have one?).. STRESS... you find a player face down in the middle of the road.. you're starving and see 2 sheep standing next to a crash site with 8 zomb pilots.. So - you experienced people who dont feel that kick any more - this is why, because of the state of SA at the moment - and you people who already feel the stress as new players... wait till this game REALLY gets going.. it can be exciting, frightning, - so you can't even describe the sensation (wow) - even for long-time players who know their way around. But a lot of stuff has to be added yet, and I'm wondering how well the servers can deal with it. xx PILGRIM -
this is only a temporary thing...remember server hopping and ghosting is a simple fix and wont be around much longer. tents are great and I welcome them back. remember that feeling of randomly coming across a tent or camp...oh man that was tits in the mod. Then you look inside them all and find a can of beans and a soda...ugghhh

I think every bad action except hacking is justified in this game
crazykage replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Look guys (no cheaters, not you. I'll get to you in a moment...). You are NOT going to convince these cheaters that what they are doing is wrong. They are NOT going to change their world view because you explain it to them, no matter how eloquently and intelligently you tell them. You would have better luck explaining the moral consequences of bullying to a bully, in the hopes the bully would change their ways. Like trying to tell them that the reason they pick on others is because, deep down, they feel weak, and need to feel stronger. The bully would just spit in your face, right? I only responded to this thread to point out to the OP that "NO, not everyone who plays this game has a total lack of integrity when they do so, just because YOU don't." AND to tell him not to try and bring me down to that level. For you, the cheaters, yes, I understand there are "grey areas". Doing it ONE time, or to learn about the game, or because you trekked 500 miles to get to "X" spot and found it had been looted, so you hoped, etc... these are minor sins. But combat logging, ghosting, hoping (to "gear up fast easy mode" as the OP put it), hot spawning (whatever the fuck that is. Never heard of it until today), is an exploit. The only difference, in my eyes, between this and using an ACTUAL hack, is the fact that its free and there is no third party program or script. You are still CHEATING to gain an unfair advantage over others, that is NOT a part of the intended game design. You can say whatever you want. HOWEVER you want. NOTHING will change that fact. And anything you say to yourself to convince yourself otherwise is a lie you tell yourself to justify your actions. So go ahead and give me shit about my "soapbox" or whatever. I have fucks to give, but you cant have them.... -
Hot Spawning, Ghosting, Combat Logging. @@@
JustYouForget replied to MethHeadMario's topic in General Discussion
Easy ways to fix that? sure. Make the log out time 10 seconds from the time you hit log out ( immune from zombie hits durring this time) annnnd ghosting!? Hive servers. Aka no worries m8 this game will be great. its only 20% done right now. -
Anyone still noticing servers that do this?
Sir Digby Chicken Caesar replied to hatesauce's topic in General Discussion
Trying to hold people up or shout hostile, which i think is probably the dumbest rule ever, aint worth it as long as this lame ass combat logging and ghosting is a viable option to these pussys. Just shoot and ask questions later. -
What was your most annoying death by another player
[email protected] replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
I was taught some valuable lessons yesterday that I really should have already known. A friend and I were at Balota airfield, him with scoped mosin, and me with a shotgun, a sawn off, an FNX, and a magnum. We entered the western jail/barracks and all the doors were closed, and somebody began talking to us from the upstairs room. We spoke for awhile and I edged up the stairs, and he opened fire, luckily hitting the handrail. We told him we'd leave, and carried on to the control tower. My friend really wanted to kill this guy after he tried to shoot me, so he sat in the tower watching the door to the jail/barracks, while I watched the stairs of the tower. A few minutes later we hear a a shotgun reload, confused, we think somebody must be outside. Suddenly, the guy from before steps out from under the stairs and blows me away with his shotgun. I was so annoyed with myself. We should have left along time ago, or at least realised the reload noise was somebody logging in. Also, dirty ghosting b*stards! -

Do ppl understand that we are testing this game? I swear it's like all these ppl that complain have some sort of stat system that none of us know about.Your character is going to die from dumb stuff, the dumbest trust me. If you don't get a kill from a combat logger who cares move on mate. Combat logging, server hopping and ghosting are not critical at this point of the game. Complaining is just gunna get a bunch of ppl telling u ur an idiot so don't. -
A lot of problems about server hopping would be solved if players did not know what time a server restarts. They go from one to the next to find loot because they know EXACTLY the restart time. Say just before noon I'm on a server with 10 people - suddenly at 12:03 another 15 players turn up, solo or in groups of 3 or 5 or 8..they wipe out the military loot, then leave to loot another server... maybe they can do 5 servers from 12h to 12:25... And because there are (at the moment) only 3 military areas on the map, this is a whole herd of roving players jumping from one server to the next every 4 hours exactly. A lot of players want to be on line at 0800h, 1200h, 1600h, etc, and many players move from server to server fast as they can. Some servers advertize 2hour restarts... So you can see the problem. - The 10 minute body rule means guns and equipment are taken out of the game faster than they ever were. If you're killed, you have to get new guns ammo and kit - its not lying around after a PvP battle any more - you, or even your friends, can't recover it - so you have to go looking for new. If the servers reset at an "unknown" time, this would spread the effect a lot... Or, it is just as easy to run the server on a 23 hour or 25 hour reset cycle instead of 24, so it resets one hour earlier/later each day, to make it harder to predict across servers (but also, add on a few mins, dont reset on the hour). Alternatively, A slightly randomized reset, so that a server resets every 4h plus or minus 20 mins (for instance) is NOT difficult to script. Players hop servers, its part of the game.. there are many solo players who do not play at regular times, so they are not in a group - they don't have loyalty to one special server. I play on 3 servers regularly, and in the player list I see players I've known since the early mod (but its hard to meet up with them now). They come and go. Sometimes I go wandering to look at foreign servers, to see what's happening.. I DO this and I don't think its bad. OK so spread out server resets so they dont all happen at the same time on 100 servers, randomize slightly, make it more difficult to know when it will happen. - Also linking a player to 1 server will only encourage ghosting, that IS unfair playing. Moving from one server to another is NOT unfair. In SA, if you're not in a team, you play solo (there are plenty of solo players, good, experienced ones too).. AND there's no sidechannel now so you don't MEET MANY players... so I guess you can play where you like? The other people in this thread are right, there has been discussion about server hopping. But I don't think players have talked about so many of the reset times all being the SAME. xxPILGRIM

I think every bad action except hacking is justified in this game
crazyandlazy replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
On topic, I didn't mean to piss anyone off. I was just stating my thought of accepting everything except hacking[other player actions]. I don't applaud those acts but I believe one should not cuss out/get angry over the other person for being total scum. It's what makes this game so interesting. I just find it strangely funny how some heros demand respect and obediance to "moral codes" like he is god or something. I had this one obnoxious geared "hero" giving me a gun only to start preaching about how to play the game so I punched him unconscious and ran[i did not take his loot, mind you]. There are fake heros and fake bandits. True heros are caustious, cunning, and smart. I mean how else are you going to aid people? Some are not to be trusted. Real heros are silent and respectful not omg you combat logged you are such a noob. I am not a hero nor a bandit but I always giggle like a girl if the other player goes *poof*. I am going off on a tangent here about real/fake heros and bandits. What do you guys think? I didn't mention ghosting because I don't want to list out all the exploits. Hence, I said etc etc. -

"Now the server i play on restarts every hour. After almost every restart I get at least 1 kill because someone Hot Spawns into NEAF. It has actually got to the point on my server that Hot Spawner's are spawning behind me on sniper hill and looking for me" Most of the servers I play on restart every 4 hours, so I must surmise that you are on a loot-whoring server. I guess people don't go to it looking to pvp, just to grab more loot. Change servers, you 'might' get a bit less CL and ghosting. After every restart, where are you 'hot spawning' into? sounds like you are hot spawning into the airfield and are annoyed others are doing the same as well. Hot Spawners are spawning and looking for you? how much do you camp the airfield that you are that well known and predictable? Think it is your gameplay that needs a bit of variation. Try a new server and leave the airfield, see what happens. -

Ummmmmm..... Combat logging I don't like but it's fine if some people do it for now. If you care about your gear that much... Glitching, what do you mean by that? Like hiding in a wall and scaring the crap outta someone? Sometimes it's fun other times it is a bit far Server hopping, go for it, can gear up in 2 hrs on the same server but if you want to do it in 10mins your loss KoS not my problem should be allowed it is a core mechanic Killing new spawns, mean but not game breaking One you didn't mention ghosting: too far, if you ghost I don't think you should be playing this game Script kiddies/hackers I haven't run into any so far (touch wood) but that is unacceptable IMO What you were saying about private hives, I want 2 main hives (hardcore/regular) and a few Private hives for messing around on. Because private hives mean it is difficult to be a medic -
A church. It only has one way in or out. Two players to guard the door and search players who enter. Someone by the door advertising the trading post over voip with rules. That could work if ghosting could be eliminated. You'd need a large crew of maybe 8 to 10 people to police it and protect against attacks.

Well i think when server-hopping is getting addressed effectively this problem will also be solved, i can't see how it is considered unfair when ppl get their loot on one server even when this server is almost empty, i mean everyone else can join in at any time. The only problem i see is excessive server-hopping to get past respawn timers and to get really unfair advantages by "ghosting". But i have another problem with those large numbers of servers, because more servers means more admins who can abuse their powers and the more servers/admins there are the more difficult it gets to monitor those servers and enforce the server-rules and lets be honest there are a shitton of servers already where unwelcomed ppl just get instakicked or their char deleted or restarts occur every 5 minutes because some ppl want to gear up or servers that are password protected and on and on and on. I think if this kind of crap don't stop it will at least ruin the clear arrangement of the serverlist entirely and for the life of me it's already very hard to even find one server where i'm "allowed to play".

This has probably been covered ALOT but I am going to put my 2 cents in also.. Hot Spawning, Ghosting, Combat Logging. WTF Bohemia/Dean.. First off, can someone please explain to me why this wasn't fixed before they even released this game and can it be fixed now that the game has released? I have heard some rumor's that this cannot be fixed with the type of network architecture they have.. If that's the case then I will have to ask for a refund and I think alot of people will do the same because these are game breaking bugs. Combat Logging isn't as bad as the other 2 but it still suck's when you know that person is stuck with no way out and you wait and wait and then finally run in to find out that the person already logged out or you miss that first shot from 600 meters out and watch the character go "POOF" and disappear before your mosin ejects the round.. Hot Spawning A.K.A. Server Hopping is a big one.. Now the server i play on restarts every hour. After almost every restart I get at least 1 kill because someone Hot Spawns into NEAF. It has actually got to the point on my server that Hot Spawner's are spawning behind me on sniper hill and looking for me before they go into the airfield, which has got me to change my position often to avoid being ghosted and killed from behind by an axe. It is almost impossible to avoid being ghosted by a good player because of all the wonky sound bugs. I just don't get what Dean or Bohemia was thinking when they released this or were they thinking about this at all. It make's me laugh now that i think back to all those video's Dean was saying if i am going to release this game then I want to make sure it's done right. This problem just seems to basic, like something any MMO would take care of long before an Alpha Stage.. I actually did a Google search for these bugs and Holy Sh@@ did i find TONS of stuff about it and it all points to these problems not being fixed correctly.. I am not a game designer but I can see these bug's will be this game downfall or Private Hives will be the only place to play. Edit: For everyone that is going to say or already has said "This is Alpha". I understand this is Alpha but that doesn't mean Dean shouldn't have learned from previously problems in the mod. This is a problem that shouldn't have been a problem in the first place. I also understand that this is a big issue and has been talked about by who knows how many other people, but if you read the first few sentences, i specifically asked if anyone could confirm the rumors about these problems not being able to be truly fixed and if you trolls out there actually read this then you would have understood I am talking about how these problems should have been addressed before the release considering they were BIG problems in the Dayz Mod.. Edit: Someone actually decided not to troll and gave me this info.. I don't know where he found this but I wish I would have seen it a long time ago.. Game Exploits* Combat logging protection not workingCurrently many of our features such as queued loading, combat logging timeout, etc... have been disabled as there is the possibility that they will cause additional strain on the central server. Once we know that we can handle the load we will begin implementing these. We do expect this will be a long process, and we'll be working with the community to identify effective ways to deal with this. In the meantime, it is going to be <<< From Rocket

Atleast he didn't ghost in and shot you. That happened to me and a friend this weekend. We were just arriving the NWAF from an epic hike. Got lost from the shipwreck, NEAF was looted. I took way more time than it should. Anyway, I have an M4, but only have like 21 bullets, my friend got a fireaxe. So we approach the firestation very careful. Seems like the roof is empty, and my mate runs in. Shots fired, cursing. He's dead. I think I heard both M4 and mosin shots, and hide in some bushes. Suddenly this guy rises from proning on top of the firestation. Starts to climb down the stairs. I spray him with some bullets, and he vanishes. Fucking logger. Well, I thought I heard an M4 too, so Im still sneaking around. Then I get shot from behind. 2 or 3 shots, but I run for cover. The screen is almost black and white, and very blurry. I quickly bandage up, and go searching for that other guy. He clearly couldn't shoot well, cause he was 20 metres away from me, and still didn't kill me. But I can't find him. Then, I hear a clicking sound, and see the sniper from earlier appearing just in front of me. He's not alone. Some guy with an M4 is just next to him. I have about 10 bullets left, and shoot the Sniper first. This time he dies, I turn and shoot after the other guy. I hit him with some bullets, but he just disappears. Logging again. Now I'm all out of bullets, but the snipers body is here, and I need his rifle. I sprint over, and start looting. This guy is a fucking dick. He had (I'm serious) 3 full ammoboxes with 7,62 rounds. that's 600 rounds! He also had 6 or 7 canteens with water, a magnum with 120 rounds, some medical equipment and of course a lot of beans. He must have been hoarding and server hopping for a while. Everything is ruined, but I'm still out of 5,56 ammo, so I take his mosin, and start running for the woods. Then I hear the clicking sounds of someone logging in again. The last thing I hear is shooting sounds from behind me. Where a guy I just shot logged out. So in the span of 3 minutes, I encountered 2 combat logging, ghosting, server hopping assholes. Both of whom got pwned by my shooting skill and tactical knowledge. Both of whom got hit, logged out and then logged in again. I wish I had their names and a vid.

Rishua11 replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Me and a group of Guys from our clan all got taken out by server hoppers who kept ghosting us at balota airfield. we were moving through and one by one we all got taken out by two guys who hopped in and out of the server several times, flanking us etc. everytime we got the drop on them, they would combat log, change position and then come back and take one of us out. It was horrible, we all refuse to combat log or anything, we play the game fair, hopefully in the future there will be a way they can stop or at least limit the server hopping/ghosting. Rish - TLA -

do you think ghosting is ok if you think combat logging and Kos are ok in some sort of combination - ghosting -
Hardcore for me only, if people dont cheat with second screen for external map don't look up guides and wiki's and day/night time servers. Won't combat log or ghosting server hopping or first get geared up on private hive or low pop abd then come to high pop server im my eyes all losers. I wish i could play hardcore server where people purely use what game ingame give. But my friend can't take first person he get sick, myself i rather play on first person server.

ugh no civ weapons you say only military gear and weapons you want you say. i think i vomited cause this game is doomed not by the developers but by the community we are all just a bunch of douche bags. welcome to dayz the new team deathmatch game with one map where its sniper rifle on a hill for 3 hours and if thats not your cup of piss then its the serverhopper/ghosting m4 guy. so many classy characters my favorite being the scumbag kos'er. there was a guy that suggested a nuke i like that idea more and more. because the way the community is right now i would push the button and launch every damn last warhead i could.burning corpses couldn't smell sweeter. -
This idea comes from a very old, very dead game called Ultima Online. We're talking 2D figures moving back and forth old. In UO, when you would log out, your character would remain in the world for 5 minutes standing still. So, instead of giving players a timer to wait out to log off, which can always be gotten around using alt f4 or similar means, I would suggest DayZ adopt a similar system. The effect is simple, you are allowed to "exit" any time and anywhere you want. You will remain there for a few minutes, in the position you logged out in, completely open to attack. Not only would this halt combat logging, but it would also prevent ghosting and lessen server hopping. Especially on the server hopping - tell me, would you log out anywhere near an airfield if you were gunna sit there for five minutes after you did so?

In the future, we should be able to create safezones for people to trade, learn and commune in.
Jamz replied to rydekk's topic in General Discussion
I'd be for the idea of a structure which you would not be able to log into (ie; if you logged off inside it, when you logged on again you would be somewhere outside it). This would enable players who got together to perhaps have a chance at defending an area and/or making it safe for meetings and trading without the fear of players ghosting in. The building could be designed in such a way that people inside could not easily be sniped, attackers would have to make a frontal assault. There could even be many buildings like this dotted around the map.
