Agree with op to some extent. While i would love to see plenty of diversity and everything from rafts to tanks, there is something to be said for small scale simplicity. Having played the vanilla mod with a ver large clan and being force to take a ural convoy everywhere which offeres no element of stealth or suprise. The more dependant you become on increaingly large and difficult vehicles the more time and effort is diverted from your gooal into maintaining the means to get there.
  2. PVP will always be part of the game. the whole point of DayZ is that its Open world/Sand box. no rules no playstyle funneling thru development. every player is given an apocalyptic world in which to do what ever he or she chooses, be that for good or evil. Adding more conetent, especially enormously time consuming end-game stuff like full base building or hig end vehicles will simply shift the PvP from death match on the coast to squad/clan fight sup north for military and vehicle assets. The only way to ever cut it down would be to masively change the development philosophy towards trying to make players play a certain way- at wich point you might as well take the dayZ name of of it and call it something else because its just a zombie MMORPG then.
  3. Alot of what this thread contains is people talking about how broken the game is. I feel I should state my opinion. I feel they should abandon this current build of the standalone and start fresh. The entire game is broken and the dev team doesn't seem to know what they are doing as far as the development goes (not saying they don't know how to create a game, but how to develop it well). The issue is that the core of the game isn't there. Let me list how they could go about things if they were to remake the game. The servers are broken, they really are. And while I don't know anything about game development and servers, I don't see how it is so hard to use ArmA 3 like servers as those run much better than the standalone servers. So, let's say they use ArmA 3 servers. Sweet, now they can do a lot of stuff and not have to sorry nearly as much about their limitations. Now let's throw in the pretty ArmA 3 engine and use that (and possibly modify it a bit). Now, we have a great engine that is ready for vehicles and more. Alright, so now we can add in some basic vehicles. Now, I don't know how possible this is, but they could copy & paste the vehicles from ArmA 3 into DayZ standalone and improve them however they want later. If not, then they can just add in a bicycle and not have to worry about things like fuel. Now they can add in some guns, zombies, change up the map however they want, and more. And with these great ArmA 3 servers they'll still have things that they can add. Also, I feel they should change how the game is played. Make guns and stuff harder to find. And don't add in a bunch of military items that makes your character look like they're soldiers in a fucking war. Also, do whatever you can to make sure it ISN'T a pvp game. A zombie apocalypse survival simulator is what I want. Now, do I expect the developers to do this? Hell no. But this is what I think.
  4. It's more stuff to collect which means more gameplay opportunities. The current implementation currently isn't so great, but it's going to be tweaked down the line. It's better than the mod's method of "heres an m16 acog, heres an m16, here's an m16 gl, here's an m16 red dot" all as separate items. Saying they should scrap attachments entirely is ridiculous. Could people please actually understand what is going on in development? They add in systems/mechanics and then move on to the next one. They've created a foundation for a weapon attachment system and thrown in a few examples to make it "work" and then move on to the next thing, say hunting or vehicles or whatever. They'll do the same there, they'll throw in a very basic vehicle system and it will probably be shit as well, then they'll move on to base building and it will be shit too, then they will move on to aircraft or whatever the fuck and so on. They don't care about perfecting these systems yet, that comes later. Just because something doesn't work exactly as desired currently doesn't mean it won't be properly built up later, that's the entire point of the alpha process. Just because attachments and weapons function like shit now doesn't mean they can't tweak this shit later on. Do you really think they give a fuck about weapon balance right now? All they care about right now is getting a working prototype of these mechanics in the game. Look at the grand picture. You don't scrap a piece of art based on the rough sketches, you build up from them. It's a process. When the game actually releases, and if these systems still suck, then complain.

Maybe they'll allow the server option like they did in the mod to decide which vehicles spawn, then everyone can be happy.
  6. Anyone who played the mod and thought vehicles and helicopters were the end all be all was playing the wrong game. They just allow you to get to places faster, make you louder, and definitely announce your presence a lot more than being on foot. In Standalone, they're going to be deathtraps and things you won't be able to touch if you really want to steal a working one. If you shoot up the vehicle all to hell to kill the occupants inside, well, good luck with all those ruined car parts you now need to replace before it starts. Anyone posting about vehicles at this point clearly has no idea what they were playing before or what they've gotten into now. Because we all know in Standalone, Cars will only need some scrap metal, four wheels, some windshield pieces, engine parts, and fuel tank parts that aren't ruined. (10) I don't really know what people are expecting DayZ to become. Are there people out there that think we're going to build houses/bases and just sit around hanging out without guns? Because you can already do that now, go claim a house and have your friends holed up in it, doubt you'll really last that long or have much fun just sitting in a house, ready to play the victim. Do people really think that's where the game is ever headed? This game will always be pvp, even if they make the zombies a real threat and something to work together against. People will never stop killing one another in order to stay alive, or to gain an edge and lose a second (or more) mouth to feed.

I can drive an armoured car, it's identical to drive an ordinary car, you cant drive a helicopter, probably not even a plane. Almost no one would be able to. Plus air vehicles flooded the game with metagaming since the mod. It will become pointless to hoard loot and the game will just turn into an elektro deathmatch with einfields and double barrels again, just like the vanilla mod was.
  8. Oh you guys! Picking on the new poster for asking silly questions. At 2 posts he is still wet behind the ears. OP, Your questions and concerns have been brought up many many times before. But since you are new, you probably are unfamiliar with the road map that most of us have probably committed to memory after reading numerous times. But just to get you up to speed and not forcing you to read something longer, here are upcoming features** that make us quiver with anticipation: ETA: Sooner than vehicles - AK weapons. Probably some sort of Sub Machine gun. ETA: This Wednesday (I hope) - Fireplaces, ovens, and lighting shit on fire. Not literal shit, not yet at least. New clothes to look more militaristic? Maybe not yet. But we have track pants, so we're ok for now. ETA: Not soon enough! (within a month hopefully) - new animals to hunt, with meat to loot, and the ability to cook it. After that, all they need to add are NPC indian wives/slaves so I can be Jeremiah Johnson. Oh shit! I didnt mean to be offensive. I meant I would want Native American wives/slaves ** = it has been over a month since I read this stuff, and suffice it to say recreational drug use has hindered my ability to remember the dates and/or items correctly. Also it has left me with no motivation to fact check myself.
  9. Welcome fellow survivor. Don't get down about the negative comments. There's been a lot of whining on forums lately and it wears on our collective patience. I'd love vehicles tomorrow as well. However I think they are making a smart play with focusing on survival/hunting. This is an area never fully realized in the mod. I think, if done right, it will effectively make DayZ two games in one. First game is your classic DayZ-go find a gun, walkaround, loot some more, hopefully kill a guy Next game will be hunting/survival sim which hopefully will be awesome-stealthing around the forest so as not to attract a bear since you don't have anything to defend yourself with yet. It's important to remember that forums were going mad for awhile during mod dayz demanding some sort of end game beyond vehicles. Because from those player's perspective, the vehicle was part of the "same old find a car, drive around kill guys, isn't there anything else to do in DayZ, when are you going to implement (insert wishlist here)?" So don't think vehicles is the end all be all for DayZ. You'll get bored of that too if you aren't playing the game correctly.

To be honest, Id LOVE to.see them, but.in unarmed moderation :p Here in America, loggers buy old tanks that are demilled And have the turret ENTIRELY removed. That is the only acceptable TRUE tank I.wana see (cause one frag or guy.who.peeks into.the open hole of a turret...) But I like the idea of "tanking" up vehicles. Ural pimpindeathmobile XD

If ultra lights and para gliders were the only air vehicles in the game I would be delighted.

BTW Cessna-like planes should be in the game, but helicopters should never. Maybe only a half functioning and unreliable worn out little bird or two, that would require a ton of book reading and maintaining to get working, and that's it. Helicopters are way more game breaking than some armored vehicles roaming around. Clans would use it all the time to spot bases in the woods and grief other players. Another thing that shouldnt be in the game is GPS'es.

You could fix up a bulldozer as a possible tank that is if any working construction vehicles do exist in the game.

    The TANK Thread

The tank wrecks around the map would be impossible to fix considering they're static models (and most of them are run down beyond repair, regardless.) Up-armored cars? Sure. Main battle tanks? No. It's a good ways away if they ever come anyway. Dean even said himself that he doesn't expect there to be vehicles for a while and they'll just be focusing on bicycles, motorcycles and ATVs. Simple cars probably won't even make it in this year.

OR even better a way to upgrade a tractor into an armored vehicle like what they did with the Bob Semple Tank First they would need to implement digging vehicles in game. Bulldozers and such like that.

You will grow to love the bike and treasure it more than any other vehicle they put out latter on. I can guarantee you that much, The only other time your going to wish you had other wise is when you do come across those supposed armored vehicles with guns and cannons.
  17. Awesome, thanks for the replies. Was worried this might be a forum where you thread goes on for a week with no views :P Sorry for not using the search. I did use it and found a couple threads mentioning vehicles, but nothing that seemed to address what I wanted. What everyone said sounds right. I can understand that there are a ton of technical things that need to be done before vehicles are ready. I know nothing about programming. I was being hyperbolic in the OP. Of course they shouldn't stop everything and put it into vehicles. But I just don't get why some things get development time. Like why there's such a focus on foraging and cooking. These things have virtually no effect on the experience. Right now, everyone can play for thirty minutes and have a gun and plenty of food and be finished with progression. There's nothing else to want. It doesn't matter that there are more varieties of guns introduced or different types of food. I want to convince my friends to get the game too, but at the moment I really can't recommend it to anyone. Certainly bugs and server issues need to be addressed, but in order to maintain player base and grow, I think there need to be long term goals. Vehicles or barricades or something of that sort.
  18. This. Vehicles will come when the dev team are good and ready. At this current time this will be Q3 of this year (for basic stuff). They are not the most important thing right now. Bugs are.

Personally I'm not against anything that one might reasonably find in a post-Soviet state, so long as there is some element of balance. So to have a tank, much like IRL, it would use a shit ton of fuel, which should be rare. It would require spare parts, many of which might not be available. Especially if you throw a track driving over the wrong terrain, which is easy to do. Also, tank parts are heavy. So maybe you need to also find a wrecker or tow truck or something with a wench or a crane on it, and get THAT working, so you swap out that engine or fix that track. And at the end of the day, all that work might be ruined by someone placing a sticky bomb on the track or dropping a hand grenade down the barrel. The only problem I have with tanks, armored fighting vehicles and "technicals" is that if you have them, you probably have weapons for them. You also need weapons to counter those vehicles. So that means a lot more .50cal machineguns, rocket launchers, IEDs, satchel charges, grenades, RPGs, Claymores, anti-material rifles and so on circulating through the map,

your post talks about helis and i was talking to the people who were discussing it... anyway i think they have already talked about putting bikes and other vehicles into the game soon. me personally i would love to use a bike, trucks and things will bring too much attention to yourself.
  21. Hello there and welcome to the forums. Make sure to use the searchfunction prior to posting. Vehicles are confirmed and being worked on, though not highest priority. I have posted this numerous times already, but I will repost it, so you can get an idea why it will take a while. There have been multiple topics about this and multiple answers as to why it's not possible and not as easy and quite frankly: not worth the time they're spending on it. To name a few things: FuelFuel EconomyRepairsystemRepairpartsServerperformance while handling vehiclesDatabaseconnection for vehiclesVehiclestorage It is not about the models - it's about the entire system, that needs to be right. Please use the searchfunction.
  22. Full servers are lagging badly and he wants all the devs to work on vehicles. What a troll. I want them ALL to stop making ANY items and to work on the optimization.

The whole reason for everyone's bitching is because they want to run around, collecting cool hats and eating off the land or whatever. Then they get pissed when 4 guys drive up or fly in loaded up with automatic weapons and kill them for no reason. I recall one of my scariest moments in the Mod was the first time I saw a helicopter. I was on the coast and it was a long ways off. And it was very jarring, but in a cool way. Like you're the last dude on earth surrounded by zombies and you see this relic of civilization, but you aren't sure if you should pop a flare to signal it or run and hide. Anyhow, I don't get these people who think Cherno should have nothing but Cold War and WWII era firearms and equipment and that everything should be "low tech" and rare. I don't want CoD, but I also don't want to wander an empty map for hours, hoping to find the last screwdriver on earth to fight off zombies. I mean there are three major airbases. Is it out of the realm of possibility that they might have a couple of aircraft? In the Mod, helicopters (and most vehicles) really did take a lot of work to get up and running (unless you just found one in working condition). You needed to gather a ton of parts, which meant you needed to set up a base to collect them. Ideally you needed a couple of guys to help and provide security.

This game needs helicopters and ships but for your opinion, did you ever play the original dayzmod? Vehicles weren't something you saw near the coast. Atleast not driving less than 80 km/h hoping that no one stops them. Sure there were people with to much cars wasting some, but it was definitly worth it I found 1... 1! rocket launcher in hundreds of hours of dayz and I never ever saw a flying rocket or someone with the launcher, except the one time I found one and tried it...
  25. UltimateGentleman

    The TANK Thread

As with helicopters I do not see the point. This NOT a war game, why make it one? It's a survival game and as said if you have tanks you need to have rocket launchers. Which every asshole will just camp with in Berenzino or wherever an annihilate anything that moves. They make no sense to add, especially not with the lack of a destruction engine in the game this game is about realism so shooting at someone in a house and it not blowing the crap up is retarded. Cars will be enough, they will be tanks in this game and I think they're all that should be added in the way of vehicles, except maybe motorbikes or bicycles. Taking on a group of guys in a jeep or something would be hard enough as a fresh spawn don't give people tanks too god damn... The coast would just be hell and the game would just be terrible, absolutely terrible.
