  1. I don't server hop for loot. I also like how you use overzealousness to try to prove your points, though. It's indicative of someone who's not very skilled at conveying his ideas in an intelligent way. But, that's cool. The in-game threats are cool, too. Reading some of the stupid deaths you've suffered (and unfortunately felt the need to articulate on the forums) basically removes any credibility from any threat you could make, haha. Also, bra = . Did you mean, "brah"? Link me to a developer saying the way they intend to combat these issues is with an increased timer. That's news to me. It's also the worst idea ever. There are too many factors that can take place to justify using an "exponentially" longer timer: client crashes, admin kicks, etc. There's no failure of understanding, I follow the twittersphere and other forms of social media pertaining to DayZ quite closely, and I haven't seen that mentioned. So yeah, toss me a link. "Hey guys, what's the best way to fight the current exploitive behavior behind ghosting and server hopping?" "LOL LONGER TIMERS." The memes were accurate and depicted what I could've wasted more time typing to you in a few seconds of Photoshop. A picture's worth a thousand words. You should follow suit. Again, you're contributing nothing. Your trolling is weak.
  2. Shit is broken. If you debate that, you're obviously part of the problem. Server hopping happens. Ghosting happens. People run around on empty servers gearing up, then switch to full servers to kill people. WORKING AS INTENDED. Cute meme reference. They hurt, don't they? See above. I feel that's the direction BI needs to go if they're serious about DayZ. Having private hives for a game like this in its mod version is one thing, but this is its own product. Unfortunately, this isn't Counter-Strike where you just jump on a server and kill people; we need some sort of stability from the producers of the game and can't continue relying on the public (because the public isn't moderated, and stuff happens, e.g: kicking for no reason, server restarts when you kill an admin, etc.).
  3. Third-party private servers are ok for a mod or an online add-on to a single player game, but in a fully-fledged standalone online game, the servers should be centrally controlled and run. I think that's the only viable way to run the game when it gets closer to release. Once you have that, you can lock characters to servers, which allows you to eliminate server hopping and ghosting, and makes persistent storage work properly. If people want to play on different servers with their friends or a clan they should be allowed to keep multiple characters on the go at once, but each time you join a new server you should have to start again as a new spawn. I don't see a problem with that - you could limit it to, say, 5 characters per player. That's the only way to really create the persistent game-world that's required to fulfill DayZ's potential. And yeah, you should be allocated your server automatically, with group formation tool in the game menu. The system in place now is fine at the moment, while new features are introduced and tested; but it would be a bit Mickey Mouse for the finished game to operate in the same way.
  4. Nesuma (DayZ)

Find a flaw in my logic, because this seems too simple.

Some people prefer 40/40, death match servers where you find someone to kill every 20 minutes and some prefer servers with ~15 people. Yes you could make a filter but why, there are much better ways of solving ghosting and the other stupid stuff. I, for example would love to play on one server all the time, where you know the other players, can have clan wars etc... Private hives, I miss you :D
  5. The zombies in experimental are a bit tougher, one hit and your bleeding, plus with the new melee stance, it makes killing zombies with an axe a bit harder... Now, the other day, last week to be exact, i shot a zombie in the head with the .22 rifle, it went down, i turn around and bandage... I look back and see it got up and went after me again.... Now this is a good way to toughen up the Zs... Keep their current speed, but make it so that a players "inventory weight" affect his running speed, the more shit you have, the slower you are, then a headshot should be the only thing that kills a Z, 2-3 body shots puts it down, but will rise again after a pre determined time, u dont really need tons of zombies, what u need is a good respawn system that makes em look like theyre infinite...have some pre determined num on a location then the moment one sees a person, depending on how that person is seen will determine how many goes after him, loke gun shots in cities spawn 10 or so coming from different directions... It will make sneaking around part of the gameplay again. And as for the night.... I agree nvg and thermals shouldnt be put in, if youre a fresh spawn playing a night server, well thats just asking to get shot... Make brightness and gamma adjustable only at the main menu screen, before entering a server... But make the nights playable... Its just too dark.... I understand that sometimes it is that dark... But only when theres a storm....Then make a good system for logging in and logging out.... Lets say 300 secs to login and 300 secs to log out... Both times your character just sits there, killable.... I bet this will lessen ghosting and server hopping... Right now, when someone logs out, he can log put instantly and then gets the 300 secs when logging back in... He should also get a 300 sec logging out where his toon just sits there, you can make an animation like the toon is sleeping for falling asleep.... Oh yeah, and bring back global chat, make it so that you can toggle it on and off.... I kinda liked having global chat....

Lets discuss what is 'Cheating' and what isn't

I agree with you, but I'd mention that the timer is more for preventing ghosting than server-hopping. Server-hopping won't be squashed until, like you said, random, respawning loot tables are added.
  7. But people in real life dont act nearly as much as idiots, as people on the internet do, so i think we will be just fine mate ;) Back on topic: How difficult can it be to follow the rules? Its incredible so many people are willing to risk loosing they're server, just to get virtual loot faster, coz thats all it is, getting loot faster lol. I cant wait for Private servers, so people can dick around and play "Carebear Kindergarden" there, while the rest of us adult, can play the game as intended by BI :) When i say intended, i simply mean no server hopping, no ghosting, no exploits and no cheating.
  8. I think I may well tell the server its on then :) On the day, and let people find us, including the bandits Good idea Its going to probably be held at a location where its unlikely someone would spawn in but somewhere we can see a main travelling route, therefore if they are spawning in we will assume they are ghosting us and give them one chance to log out just in case we are wrong Ha, yeah its also been on our forums for a while lol http://dayzsaregulators.freeforums.org/operation-sanctuary-future-mission-t63.html To all those wishing to apply, ill be taking a good look at their post history and sending a PM to all those I accept And thank you for all the support, im looking to do this in the next 1-2 weeks :)

    Server hoppers... more warning?

Bind characters to servers will get rid of server hopping. nonsense about playing with friends on other servers doesn't exist. this isn't a game that requires leveling up until you see blue in the face like other MMO'S, so no spending months to get all your skills and levels. the only thing you have to work on is getting more gear. And that can be achieved simply by running around and your friends can help. There is no need for grinding. This game is already, once you die, you die and loose everything .. so this whole whining about having to start another character (again, or on different server) instead of being able to server hop is a totally retarded argument. This will get rid of server hopping easy .. and treat all bases and houses as red zones .. you disconnect (sadly it will mean loosing connection as well).. you respawn outside randomly within a certain radius... say bye bye to ghosting. The only place where you will respawn where you were are friendly places (like future player build bases or certain spots in the forests where you can log out without problem). 10 seconds to log off to prevent combat logging, 5 for logging in and you can't get killed or kill within those 5 seconds (this is merely so that the servers and your computer can catch up). It is really not that difficult to fix .. you just need to force people to be unhappy when they log off .. it will teach them to be smart about it and other than personal emergencies, which are unfortunate, will create a play style where the player will go to a safe place out of habit ...

well if it isnt a speed hacker its a jail floor glitcher

I've only been playing DayZ for a few weeks now. However in the first 2+ weeks the only sketchy thing I encountered was a player suddenly appearing in a room of a house(the room had no outside door) I was holed up in with a few friends. There were no loading sounds, or anything that is usually indicative of someone ghosting. I chalked this one up to him somehow passing through the wall, and I still attribute it to that, though I don't really know. Two nights ago I encountered something different. I was in the two story green building just east of the school in the lumber mill at lower Berezino. A player approached our area, he was on the opposite side of the wooden fence between us and the school. He poked his barrel through the fence and killed one of the people I was playing with, who was located on the other side of the fence. Odd, but given the desync in the game, certainly nothing we could deem impossible without cheats/exploits. After this he moved to the beige house next door. I watched him, in a crouching position, slide through a wall of that house, through the fence between the two houses, and alongside our house. Again... sketchy, but I've accidentally passed through fences and doors before(not a wall though) so I figured maybe it was just a bug. Anyways, the player was jabbering on direct chat, saying he was at the front door and asking us not to shoot. I was sitting on the staircase, more than halfway up, watching the entrance. Suddenly I saw a helmet and a barrel poking through the outside-wall-side of the staircase, about halfway up the stairs. Needless to say he killed me before I could try to move away. Now the only person left from our little trio was in the second story bedroom with only 1 window. I couldn't witness this part obviously, but from what I was told, he again poked his head and barrel up, this time directly through the floor beneath my comrade, and shot him dead. Up until this point I just assumed he was glitching inside of buildings, however the amount of control, and ability to move in any direction he wanted, to the exact place he wanted, really leaves me thinking this was indeed an encounter with someone using cheats, rather than just exploiting. Obviously this alone is nowhere near enough to say "OMG DayZ SA is full of cheaters now!". However, given that I feel I've seen an increase in people posting about encounters with suspected cheaters, and an increase in videos wherein the recorders obtain video evidence of someone cheating, I felt it couldn't hurt to share my own experience. Hopefully we'll see updates to BE that will track usage of these cheats, or they'll start performing ban waves on accounts already caught cheating more frequently. Also, I truly hope the current state of the military jail buildings, and the hanger in NEAF, are of the utmost immediate concern to BIS. From what I'm hearing, those bugs have already been around entirely too long.

anti-hopping or why it's useless for the moment.

We don't have anti-hopping in the game. We have a timer to stop people ghosting. The game isn't even out yet. Put it down for a year and come back to it when it's released. If it's still shit by then, wow, you wasted £20 on it a year ago. No biggie, we've bought plenty of games for twice the money and played em a quarter of the time.
  12. RESOLVED: No robbery apparently, only glitchies! I feel less violated now. First, some images. Before logging in: After logging in: I had logged out in a pine tree far away from a town (and the coast), and yet still, someone managed to come across my helpless character before the timer went off and rob them of their shoes, gloves, backpack with supplies, etc. Pretty much whatever they could grab before my char logged. I had a sawn off I had just made in that backpack, as well as some cereal I had just found (had only been playing on this spawn for a little over an hour). I would prefer if I had came back to a restarted char, but no, the rotten whoreson that robbed me was smart and knew not to kill me so as not to ruin anything. Does everyone else think this kind of thing is okay? I mean, should we really be forced to run forever to outside the map or some crap just to be able to logout safely? The timer itself seems like its just to cater to the KoS brats so they can corner people who would rather avoid other players, as ghosting and the like could easily be combated through long ass server waits if you try to jump. Help me understand why this is okay. EDIT: Yes yes, I know the shirt is probably what got me, but its all I could find :'( EDIt2L: If you're the guy that robbed me, bravo. I hate you ;-;. And if you're the same guy I helped hours earlier by killing a zombie when you had a gun and no ammo and no melee weapon, SHAME! SHAME ON YOU! Thanks for leaving me my pristine awesomepants, but I bet you woulda taken it anyway if you had the time you thief!

    experimental 42 impressions and suggestions

I agree with the weapon readies. They take too long and are unresponsive and lead to a kiting match against zed or other players... i understand the low ready as you dont want to have someone with an axe be a threat or atleast give the a chance to lower the weap. I dont know fix it but a client side fix could have problems with lag. I agree most of the rifles should have optics. Especially the .22 sporter. .22 dmg values need to be redone to reflect their real world lethality. Currently their values are that of an airgun. I too havent found any .22 mags but that could just be that people are taking them all to experiment with the guns. Im not sure if they're not spawning or not. I havent had a problem finding backpacks but lately alot of pp are playing experimental so just remember every route you take to a town, someone has taken it before. Currently the spawns are setting up so that everybody has t run either NW or SW to get loot since everybody on experiemental spawning somewhere around the NE. I havent had an issue with speedloaders. They work just like mags to me. All weapons should be paintable but im sure that'll come later. The main bugs are still there with ghosting but i like the more aggressive zombie AI. Though there are some problems with spawning. Zeds should spawn a little further around u when u get serious aggro. RIght now they spawn too close and its obvious since u can run in a circle and keep picking up new zeds even in the middle of a field
  14. Or server hopping. Or ghosting. Its within design parameters, why not?

Ban wave within the next maintenance?

You see most cheating in the Elektro pvp fest tbh. If you wipe a squad and they get butthurt I expect to have someone teleport onto my position and kill me from behind as i sit in a secure building I've been camping for about 20 mins and no it's not ghosting as my squadmates would see that happening and kill them like we kill all the other ghosters. These days I just keep out of Elektro and fight elsewhere and have not had any problems since.
  16. I still think a good fix would be if you leave the original server you are on for a separate server. You should be spawned randomly on the map.. Do it too many times, you become a fresh spawn on the beach.. Just the issue I see now and will always see is even with loot respawning.. People will still sit at the military base and wait out the current timer and just server hop. They would do the same thing no matter where they are at compared to actually traveling somewhere else. On top of this reason on why I like it, theres also the issue soon to be coming with base building.. Now, anyone knows from the DayZ mod that if you saw a tent with a bunch of barbed wire around it.. The easiest way to get to the tent is remembering the exact spot and just going to that spot on a different server then relogging back into where the tent is, putting you inside the barbed wire.. This is going to be a issue with base building that is also going to definitely need a fix.. Otherwise whats the point of building a base if someone can easily enough get inside it? Ill just stick with hiding tents in the forest. To me, this fixes ghosting, server hopping, and getting inside bases once they are implemented..
  17. This is the private hive solution that is imo, the only "True" fix. This would also solve the "Ghosting" problem that seems to be getting more and more common as well.

    Server login timer is F***ed.

I have to disagree with that. Ghosting still works I've managed to do it before. if someone is bunkered down 180 second timer isn't going to change anything. What matters the most is the noise made once you login, that's the saving grace for me anyway.
  19. I have 200+ hours of playing on lots of server and i never had a single disconnect so yes, my answer is revelant. What i can say is that some server companies seems to have more issue than other. I now try to find server nearby me but not only for ping, also for stability concern while playing. I also now pretty much only play on gameservers.com server since i ( and friends ) had ALOT of issue on vilayer servers. ( I'm in Quebec/Canada ) NO, server stability are not perfect but getting disconnected alot is still on the client side if you want my opinion. All my friends that have good computers with good internet connection never had any disconnect at all. We only had rubber banding and such issue on lots of server but like i told, since we added a bounch of good servers to our favorites these issue are 100% resolved for all 10+ of us playing together. My best advice as for now is simply to find a bounch of servers that are nearby you, with good ping and add these to your favorites. Even on 40 players, i get 18-20 ping, no rubber banding and no ghosting with other players and friends.

My thoughts on the log out timer (30 sec)

Question is, why not. 30s is already enough for thinking. If someone is going to combat log, shit happens. Instead of ghosting him,. which is a terrible idea for many reasons, and the worst being "Being killed when you cannot do anything against it" which is an idiotic reason if you have ever played the experimental with zombie respawning. But the worst thing is: The only reason you hate him is because you want him dead and win. If he does not want to play this game, shit happens, penalize his LOG IN timer, but please don't penalize any log OUT timer. That will just make the game awful to play. Especially if I enter another server, what do you want to happen? have my ghost over there for five minutes? let me die on the other server? Stop me from logging in for 15 minutes? All realism aside, this is a game meant to be fun. If someone logs out because he does not want to die, this is because this is after all still a game. Dying after logging out, however it happens, is not fun. I like the idea of getting a safe logout spot, but such a thing does not exist really anymore with the zombie respawning algorhithm. And logging in again to find yourself dead? Sorry, that is a gamebreaking experience.
  21. B-B-Bulllllshit. Private hives do entirely solve a few issues such as serverhopping and ghosting. But then bring a whole load of new ones, such as shitty admins, and stupid mods which make the game more casual. If the devs set up their own private hives that would be amazing, but while private hive administration is in the hands of players it nearly always comes down to 1000 vehicles and donor loadouts. Because private hives need those things to survive. so no, private hives the way the mod had them was complete shit. People don't donate without incentives, and so admins have to offer them. This is the reply I received when I asked for a more vanilla private hive on the news that the server I was playing on was getting replaced: "Well you got to think about it, this is a private hive for a reason, which is because of the extra building, clan bases, kits, and all that other good stuff that vanilla servers don't provide, there is or was nothing vanilla about #1 at all, even when #1 was popular. If you really want a vanilla Epoch server or in your case Vanilla DayZ, go play the public hive DayZ server, 100% Vanilla." This statement was made at a time when you were lucky if there was one aussie public hive server up with 20 people in it. So while I understand exactly why a lot of private hives are the way they are, it's still fucking shit.

Why Private Hives should be limited when they become available

The problem is, private hives inflate the server market and there will be NO VANILLA SERVERS left for me to play on. Which throws my enjoyment out of the water. Plus, if you bought DayZ, you should be looking for a challenge. I guess hacking, server hopping, combat logging, and ghosting are okay, because people enjoy playing the game that way? Also, you use the f-word way too often. Yet again, this makes you appear hostile. Instead of being civil, you remain a tone of anger and stubborn-ness. I guess you enjoy logging onto a server to find a DMR and a Ghillie Suit already on your character, despite having just joined? Isn't that fun, removing one of the main features of the game, which is gearing up? Sure is fun to remove all the tension of being a fresh spawn....
  23. Go play another game then, obviously the spawn timer is a work in progress, but if you can't recognize that ghosting was an issue that needed addressing then go lower another game communities collective IQ.
  24. ghosting is serious! login timer is needed. i actually stretch out or get a drink during timers, but i rearely get them BECAUSE I DONT SERVER HOP
  25. I consider playing another game. I had a server reset today after joining and it still gave me the whole timer. Annoying. Helps ghosting I guess but shit if I care about ghosts.
