I'm new to this game so I dont know how many of which item there should be out there but what they could do is give these items a lifespan of so many hours of use like in real life. All vehicles and parts being release with Global limits. Higher numbers for more real life common vehicles like a standard passenger car. Low numbers for vehicles like Helis and other military vehicles. Like cars and helis and other vehicles they would all start missing certain parts that they need and it could be different for each vehicle. Like you may find one car that is missing some belts spark plug wires etc another missing tires with some of the better vehicles missing harder to get parts. The same for helis and since helis are such premium items they would all start out missing a few common parts and at least one rare part but it would be different parts so that all helis werent missing the rotor as its rare part. One may be missing a rotor and another missing an important and rare engine part. When they emplemented the vehicles a certain number of these different rare parts would be released and globally restricted. The parts could be initially released in phases. For example they release X number of rotors then a couple or few weeks later they release X more until they feel they have the right number out there. Each of these parts would basically come with a timer on them with a random X number of hours of life for each part. There wouldnt be a timer that Players could see or anything. For example you may find a rotor that has 100 hrs of life left or find one that has 50 hours of life left. You wouldnt know. Just like in real life. When you buy say an alternator for your car it basically comes with a timer on it because sooner or later it is going to break and you will need to buy another. Once they make the initial release and have the number of those items out there they stop spawning them. Then every few weeks or so they release a few more. By that point some of the rotors from the initial release would have used up their lifespan and basically broke. If you had managed to get a working heli eventually the rotor fails and you will need to find a new one. Doing it like this would prevent real hardcore Players and Clans from basically hoarding up all of the rare parts. It would also prevent there being a million helis out there. Here is an outline for how it could be emplemented. Like I said I dont know what amount of vehicles or parts is appropriate so I'm just going to use some random numbers. Also this is an example of Helis missing rotors as their rare part. The same thing could be done with helis missing a different rare part and the same for other vehicles. All vehiclee would also be missing some random more common parts and some interchangeable parts like tires. So you could have a car with 2 different size tires different color doors ect. Example: Helis missing Rotors 1) Release 50 Helis missing Rotors as a Global limit. They could release more over time to replace any that have been destroyed or as the Player base increases 2) At the same time release 25 Rotors (all with random number of hours life span maybe between 50-200) 3) 2 weeks later release 25 more rotors. 4) Release more Rotors to replace some of the initial Rotors that would have reached their lifespan. By A: They could either keep track of the number of working Rotors Globally (but I dont know if that is possible or practical) then release an appropriate number Globally. B: They could just wait for a few weeks when they know some of the Rotors would have reached their lifespan then release 5-10 more Globally. Wait a few weeks and release some more. 5) Other parts on the Heli would also wear out over time so in order to keep your Heli flying you would need to periotically replace different parts. Some parts more common others rare. You would have to do a maintenance schedule on your Heli but eventually it would just become worn out over time and not worth the effort to keep it running. Maybe eventually the engine finally goes and is very hard to replace basically only being possible by pulling one from another Heli. This same system could be applied to all vehicles and parts and would be very realistic. It would also prevent some Players and Clans from hoarding all of the best vehicles or everyone having a Heli. This way the vehicles and parts would be circulating around all of the servers and everyone one would get a chance to sometime get a nice vehicle. It would open up trading and give Players and Clans a reason to travel to other servers to acquire replacement parts. The parts and vehicles would also stay rare like they should.

I think we sort of misunderstood the central hive thing..

Ive read Rockets comments several times about the central hive, and as I understood it sounded like such a terrible idea.. Until I realized something. MODS. What he is talking about, and I think all of us are misinterpreting is that the dayz mods before had a serious issue with certain servers offering 5,000 vehicles, and 500 helicopters.. and the like. This seriously affects the game as a whole. So when they speak of central hive, I think more or less that is what they are discussing.. not allowing there to be anymore than say 100 NVG's across the entire DayZ world of servers. This would mean that if there are 1,000 servers, only 100 of them at most would have the NVG floating around in them at once. This helps keep certain modders from making things too off balance and out of control unless they find a way to get off that central hive system.. "ahem, arma3+dayzSA mod"... cough, cough. This would not be the nightmare scenario of server hopping, as they would not be connected to your same player.. see the point now? What he means is you will hear that the [Z.NU] Europe West server of the SA mod called DayZero has at least 2 working helo's on its server currently via forum posts or whatever.. people will post proof via video and images, etc. to let others know, "I we have this.. come and get some." Or whatever it may be. But you will see that and tell your friends and want to maybe hop on that server, Ill be it as a fresh spawn if you've never played there, so that you can take a crack at stealing their heli or shooting it down. I dont think he intends to have each and every server connected, and that is just not possible with mods. But Im sure they fear the game being modded into something out of control, and if they have a central hive controlling the loot based on server count numbers then well.. that just makes really good sense. #JustSayNoToServerHopping :) This has been a public service announcement. I know how many times I've observed someone and didn't kill them and it freak me the hell out knowing someone might be doing the same to me...right now!! If the OP think the spirit of DayZ is dying because of all the KoS, to that I say "Hi! Welcome to DayZ!" That's been around since Day1 of DayZ. I do think the spirit of DayZ is dying a bit though. No vehicles. Hardly any zombies. Spawning at Berezino instead of Kamenka through Electro. The weird and obtuse food and water health system replacing the food / drink / blood icons that flashed when they got too low. The lack of ghillie-suited snipers shooting at you from a mile away with ridiculously over-powered anti-material rifles (hey...that was part of the spirit too). Don't get me wrong. I know a lot of stuff is in the works. IMHO it just doesn't quite have the feel of the old Mod.

on project reality or bf2, the sprint limit was so cool i think. really limited. anyway while that maybe a bit too extreme for this game, im guessing that dayz sa sprint speed will be limited in future, and is probably just so fast atm cause were testing and no vehicles etc edit, but yeah, what youre saying is right op, i think its been mentioned a lot already tho

The problem with using food as a currency ( or even as "base value" for a currency ) is that this value is highly subjective. A fresh spawn running through 2 completely looted villages with his hunger status already on orange would trade his/her Mom for some food. Problem is: He/Her doesnt have anything to trade for that value. As your character grows older, you find some more food on your own, so your focus on trading goes to higher-value items like guns or ammo. Maybe you find a gun by yourself, fine, so you encounter somebody in desperate need for a gun. He especially gathered much food to pay for it. Since you are low on supplies, you do the trade. Now you have no gun but the other dude has, but he is starving now. Guess what the dude with the gun who just gave you his entire food will do as you leave the scene :) Food and drinks are the most-important supplies to survive, you can't use it as a trading-currency since giving it away for something else makes you much more vulnerable to dýing. Also, there will never be an equilibrium of supply and demand. The ones in highest need for food wont have anything to supply to the trader in most cases. Also, we will server-hop for food then. Once vehicles are fully implemented, i will start to trade high capacity vests filled with canned peaches for a chrome-covered Rolls Royce. Me will be bling bling. Fo real, homieZ.

We continue working on the server, improving the quality to provide an unmatched gaming experience to our players. Our full ROLLING CHANGELOG can be found here. Below are some recent additions: 20140704 Changelog AI should not attack trading players in Stary any more. You can now sell vehicles you earn in missions: Armed BTR40 added to hero & bandit traders. Unarmed BTR40 added to car traders. You can now Fast Build (i.e.: building animation will play only once, rather than default 3 times). As always, please let us know what you think of the changes. Any ideas to improve our server will be much appreciated. -

A few things that i can't stress enough for them to get. right. Something that Arma has been known for being absolutely terrible at. Vehicle. Physics. Suspension. Weight. Traction. If you've played any of the previous games you know that this has always been complete shit. In arma3 it's been improved somewhat but it's still very unrealistic. Though a much better suspension system they still aren't reactive enough, cars seem to have little to no weight at all(very apparent when going on a bumpy road at high speeds) they feel very floaty as they bob up and down. Traction is also a huge problem. Going at fast speeds and suddenly taking a turn doesn't make your wheel lock or lose control as it should, instead you just start to turn slowing down slightly and never stop. Also when going up terrain, your wheels never lose traction and start to spin you either crawl up slowly, or you just stop and start going in reverse. The rarity of them and needing to find all the parts is cool, but unless they get the actual feeling of vehicles right, we're just going to have arma2 mod vehicles again..

where he says at the end he "knows its frustrating for people waiting for us to add vehicles". just keep doing what you are doing, at the pace you can do it, customers should not get frustrated, they should just accept what they have, and play test it. let the complainers stay frustrated, a lot of the realistic (older?) players are appreciating what we have already, i think... keep it up.

1. I think you are lucky because there is no tons of vehicles. However, vehicles are spawned by the server and not by the hive, the vehicle count is done at each restart and wrecks are recycled to spawned vehicles in the same time. Maybe you are comparing to vehicle maintenance done by the hive, where half of the vehicles are always missing because they are spawned with 15-day delay... or never. 2. I count 9 guns in all vehicles. I don't know whether it's normal or not. Could have been worse. 3. Mumble is for voice, you can join some public rooms. Most of the rooms are private because some mumble users are disturbing regular players. hey there 3 things about FR34 1. I played there for about 3 days now and there are TONNS of vehicles. I haven't played DayZ in quite a while so I don't know whether thats normal now but I found a Ural and a Prada and 2 hmmv's in just 2 days. Is that normal or was I just lucky or have you added more vehicles than normal? 2. I just found a vehicle with a gun on it. Is that normal in vanilla dayz now too or just on this particular server or was it a hacker. 3. I joined the mumble server to report said vehicle but I can neither switch the chanel nor text anybody so the mumble server is kinda useless imho. -

On the mod I once traded some guy my nvg for a morphine shot and a hunting knife....those two were muchmore valuable to me at that time than the nvg, because I was starving and had broken legs. Once a guy traded his quad for NVG, now to me the quad was worth much more (being one of the most concealable vehicles) but he was tryingto get to NWAand couldn't see shit ouside his headlights, so was happy to go on foot with the NVG. Basically we don't need some "currency", because everything is currency. Its value changes all the time depending on what the other person, or you, need. Branding one specific item a currency takes away that whole dynamic of trading. I know its hard to trade when no one trusts eachother, but that's the pub hive....always has been. On a private server you get to know who you can and cannot trade with. With the introduction of walkie talkies and channels, keeping a deent trade relationship with another clan should be even easier. No more posting sentrys because we had to organise it on global. Just pick a channel and both tune in when your both online to see if anyone needs anything :)

And there is a big conundrum the developers face. If you seriously reduce the PVP element, the game will become boring for everyone, not just you. It is the thrill of the hunt(and being hunted) that keep people at the keyboards. Sure, some people will sit in the woods, shoot and skin deer, dig rocks and make campfires, but there are much better hunting games out there. These people are the outliers. The game is being developed to draw even bigger sales numbers. I think we can safely assume that BI didn't acquire this game to keep it niche. It has 2 million sales. It is being developed to get to 5 million, or 10 million. This will require game that is capable of delivering enough of multiple aspects to bring people to the cash register. The biggest driver will always be PVP. And most of the things people ask for here will just help PVP more, such as persistent storage and vehicles.

Wait.he goes by soli because he is the admin not that he is trying to hide his name...every one Damn Well knows he is the admin... Haha..what a dumb prick you are...the admin got upset cause he left his car unlocked and a brief got stolen..he wanted to see if you were breaking the rules..which you clearly were...the Admins there are legit and don't even have to use vehicles or worry about gold. The king mentality comes from players like you with the mentality of an ape. You should really get your facts straight and if you were banned of the server, It's more then likely cause you didn't follow the rules and acted like an immature 13 year old that cried cause you got in trouble. You sir are as bad as a hacker. Everyone who reads this. Don't take my word for it, just check the server out. You will know in 5minutes that it is legit. Our community loves people who actually play the game and follow the rules. Also don't be surprised when you see myself in game and I'm not the server owner. And Nat, thanks for the chuckle. Ps. The age of most of our community is around 25 and up... -

Dude, I've been campaigning for this since the mod. Now that there's a standalone, I would imagine this is inevitable. No way you could get away with no audio for such a thing in a game built in this day and age. Also, let's not forget about all those rusty, banged up vehicles with the stealthiest doors/boots in existence. Audio overall is severely lacking right now and I eagerly await the first big audio patch for the game. Ghost Recon and Rogue Spear on the PC would be some excellent reference material for this type of thing, Those game's sound design saved my life so many times. =) -
If you must team up to survive, the game will lose a lot of appeal for a lot of players. Lone-wolfs love this game. Dean won't abandon them. Adding vehicles and persistent storage just make it easier for a lot of people to be bandits, not harder. The goals might change now and then, but in the end, you kill, or you die.

with the current run speed and not exhausting out fast, it makes travel really really easy to get from the north to south of the map or east-west. travel is realy easy atm. I do agree though after playing dayz mod for a long time now and now SA, that the map could benefit in the future to a larger map, something like Altis size, that map with the arma 3 run speed makes it feel so gigantic it daunting to run across it. Maybe if SA used something like Arma 3 run speeds, it would greatly increase the run time between distances, thus making it feel larger. I figure once they add vehicles they will address the run speed and add something like whats in Arma 3. I do think it would be nice in the future if they released maps packs, like a North chernarus and West chernarus maps that add new areas N and W, Maybe the N pack can be deans everest climbing sim lol and the west is a more open area for hunting. IDk just a basic idea, but they could add more stuff in the future. I can see any new larger maps being a DLC and have it server side, so when you run into a new area it will load the DLC map so you dont have to run to another server and play N chernarus Mountain climbingz sim lol, and if you dont have the DLC map, it would say something like "to access this area you need the DLC pack" But with the new towns around the north the map will be nice with a reworked run system once vehicles make it, i would also like a future DLC with map expansions.

Imo it's balanced as best it can be, weapons/vehicles/loot/bases. If it wasn't balanced it wouldn't be popular as players would complain X is op or X Vehicles is op, they don't.

Yep, I quite like it. Maybe switch out the Military vehicles and add in some private / light aircraft crashes and turn it into a proper civillian / cargo airfield to complete the job. It needs to be a place worth fighting over but not strictly for the top grade loot.
