HELLO! (new meat) If you want to play the mod, buy arma 2 + arma 2 OA, The game works fine like that. But I warn you, the mod is MUCH harder to enter servers, you would most likely need to get a third party program like "dayz commander" to enter a lobby. The mod, in my opinion, has much more KOS than the SA because it has lots of military grade guns that are common at their respective spawns favorite sniper from the mod: CZ 550 (capped so many bandits that thought they were safe to do their work. Also, join a vanilla server for the full experience. do not join the 500+ vehicles self blood bag servers immediately. Oh and be sure to throw chem lights at zombies, because why not.

military gears and weapons / possible solution to server hopping
daisho posted a topic in General Discussion
First off: I'm well aware that a lot of people won't agree with me on this topic. Maybe we can get a productive discussion going though <3 ... The way the looting-system for military gears and weapons is working at the moment is not only pretty unrealistic but also favors those, who seem to have no intention to play a survival-horror game and rather farm-hop servers or run private servers to gear up fast and go PVP. This thread ain't about playing styles, heroes, kosers or pvpers, I guess we all agree that every single playingstyle is totally legit and has it's place in this game. The problem though is server hopping: Not only these people don't actually play the game, they make it even harder for everyone who wants to play this game "properly" (as in, enjoy the journey, play a survival game, dont rush to a military farm to gear up just to then start a killing spree because you are bored). I just can tell about my personal experience on my current character. I have 2-3 servers I play on on a regular basis, 2 of them are low pop servers, one is 40/40 most of the times and I don't hop servers, because it would mess up the whole survival aspect for the game for me. When I run to some military base or an airfield and stuff is looted already, so be it, bad luck, gotta check somewhere else for the stuff I need then. The problem is: on my current character, I hardly ever find anything in a military base whenever I get there, there's just 4-6 people on the server and server got restarted like 30min before, yet no worthy leftovers to collect whatsoever. Bad luck I guess. It took me like 10-15hrs to finally find a M4 (which I only got because the server was restarting the moment I've entered the base) and -oh look at that- everything I needed was available. Assault vest, meds, M4, some ammo...and thats not how the looting system should work if you ask me. I shouldn't have been so lucky to get fully geared just because I was at the right point at the right time. Possible solution: Make all loot random, everything can spawn everywhere, including all kind of military equip. I'm not saying to increase the amount of military equip in any way, rather make them more rare and harder to find. Those who actually play the game and wander around looking for loot in every city should get rewarded and not "punished" and those who decide to just server hopp over and over to gear up: well, tough luck now. Advantages I see: 1) server hopping totally will be obsolete when you have spawnpoints completely randomized 2) players can get found all across the map, so more thrill when roaming areas that are not the few hotzones like military bases, airfields, elektro and so on, hence more thrill and paranoia for everyone, isn't that what we're here for? 3) gearing up would be way harder, people would have to deal with the survival aspect and maybe would act accordingly even when they not fully geared up yet (i.e. try to stay alive because it would take way longer to get geared up again/ get pristine gears again) 4) it would have way more of an atmosphere of heading into the unknown as it would be completely unpredictable where you'd meet what kind of people with what kind of equipment on what kind of mission. Two birds with one stone and it would make stuff so much more exciting if you ask me. Realism Some people might come up with the "that's not realistic" argument and if you ask me, the way it is at the moment is not realistic at all, so don't fool yourself. 1) Given the setting, military must have been all over the place to restore order. There is no way all Zed'ed-up soldiers ran back to their military base to drop their weapons and then ran back again to whatever place they are roaming around. 2) whats with the crashed military cars and trucks in the cities? Soldiers operating these vehicles left their base unarmed? 3) I'm pretty sure some citizens were panicing that much when hell break lose that they overpowered any military personal/ convoy out of pure desperation. Where are these weapons? 4) not only mentioning all those soldiers that got killed in action while trying to fight off the apocalypse, I doubt they did it with their bare hands. Again: I don't want to see any more weapons in game, rather reduce the amount and randomize the loot-areas to make them harder to find. -
So you don't give a shit if he's hacking in vehicles, and hacking his humanity to make himself look like a good guy even though he's murdering 'survivors'? If he was on a friends server and the friend authorized him to spawn in a helicopter and crash it, that's one thing.. I can be okay with that. But the fact that he has 7 murders and is still wearing a survivor skin means he is killing survivors, as a survivor, which means his action are affecting others who are not involved in the production of the video. If you're okay with him making a LOT of money by deceiving and victimizing others, maybe you're the dumb one..

I don't mind the narrative. I don't mind "smart" editing.. But there's a fine line between editing, and completely faking what happened. People are attracted to what's REAL.. What's TRUE.. There are many instances in Frankies videos that are clearly "scripted".. It's a little off putting to hear him acting through scripted material, but it's another all together to realize that there are certain scenarios which were completely set up. For example, there's an episode where he "steals" a helicopter, then he flies away, and the helicopters engine cuts out. At this point in the video, he has 7 murders, but he's still a survivor. The heli starts floating downwards like it's going to crash, then the video cuts, and he wakes up on a shoreline, on a different server, using a different skin, on a different life.. he now has 1 murder, is still a survivor somehow, and there's a heli-crash next to him, and he announces that he survived the heli-crash. A few questions about this: 1. How was he still a survivor after having 7 murders? Last I checked, 7 murders would definitely get you a bandit skin. Hacks can allow you to change your humanity. 2. Where did the helicopter crash come from? It was a different server, different life.. He didn't crash and wake up on the shore, so that had to be a different helicopter crash. Did he spawn in the helicopter and crash it, for the footage? Spawning in vehicles is a well known hack. 3. Helicopter engines don't just randomly cut out. He faked this. In a recent video in Standalone, he met up with "Morgan Freeman", and in one of the scenes, he is talking into a Walkie-Talkie.. He says he found the Walkie-Talkie in Berezino, but I know for a fact that there is only 1 place which spawns Walkie-Talkies.. and that's in Firestations. He had to have... 1. Got the walkie talkie from a fire station in NWAF, Balota, Cherno, or Elektro, and then lied about where he got it from. 2. Taken the Walkie Talkie off of a dead body. 3. Hacked in the walkie talkie. There's no footage of him actually finding it, or how he came across it.. The only thing we know for sure is that he had one, and he said he got it from Berezino.

Gear up, then suicide - the cycle of Day z
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to Sebidee's topic in General Discussion
First, I like the suggestions (even if all of them were already mentioned in some sort), so don't egt that commetn als defending or putting you down or whateverm, I just have a look what is planned as said by the devs... Hunting+cooking+building (persistent barricading as first step) will be added, first 2 soon (maybe next exp patch? Maybe that one after that), barricading soon after, building will last a bit longer With respawning Zs the first step has been done - it's very hard to survive if you start shooting in a city ;) What is missing here is the new Z AI which is worked on and a better Z pathfinding (maybe give them the ability to climb ladders, so they can get those damn roof-snipers as well ;) Lootable food will be lowered (I can already feel the tears of rage that will stream like a river in this forum when it happens) when hunting+cooking is implemented, Water that is not purified or cooked will have a chance to make you sick, so that "drink from well until hydrated" -times may be over soon as well ;) And getting scurvy as you suggested (the diet thing^^)? Great idea. I hope something like this is planned Random ilnesses...well...you will get diseases from Z attacks that made you bleed (that's confirmed), and amybe even when you are in damp clothes+cold (new modifier for body temperature which is coming) Is planned as rocket confirmed. There will be no skill points to be distributed by the player, but a passive skill system (think of skyrim-passive skills)....the example that he gave was: You will not be able to repair ruined or badly damaged items when you spawn. But if you repair enough damaged items, you may get good enough to repair badly damged items, and some time later if you stay alive that long, even ruined items. Same for clothes, maybe even cooking...but "battle" skills will not be affected afaik. In long term view (think base building and vehicles) this skills will be even more useful...if the only tires you find are ruined... here is, where I see some more potential. Maybe adding some kind of mechanic skill for repairing cars, doctor skill for giving infusions/taking blood (was suggested in the suggestions sub often) etc. etc. So...thinks are looking good, if the devs can keep their promises :) -
bobotype3334 ^this guy is pure win although in the suicide thing i think it might be good to keep it like that while there are no vehicles, for example you are fully geared and need to meet up with a friend that is in berezino and you are in cherno, and because we dont have vehicles you have to run 8 km, 8 fucking kilo-motherfucking-meters, assuming you go a direct line ofc, do you know how painfully boring that is? even more painfull if your friend just got the game and then gets the news that he needs to run for 30ish min(?) nonstop(assuming he goes a direct line)

Building Materials on actual later spawn site?
ninjaontour replied to Demonica's topic in General Discussion
Construction sites are new... Made me lol. As has been said OP, construction sites aren't anything new, there are quite a few around the map (even more so now than in the mod). Speculation as to possible spawn points for base-building at this stage would be just that, speculation. Like Maca said, they used to house parts for vehicles and the like, so we may see that system make a return. Although, now that we have garages in-game this may not be the case after all! -
New Taviana Epoch Server - Welcome To Axeteam!
Ninja_Finder posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hello there! My name is Ninja_Finder and I'd like to invite you come play on the Axeteam server. I myself am not not a member of Axeteam but I do join them in they're missions and things in ARMA 2. NOTE THAT THIS IS A TAVIANA EPOCH SERVER. So put -mod=@taviana in your launch parameter before joining the server. Anyways this server has a few additions to it like: Custom Traders, loot, and vehicles Indestructible bases Full moon night (Still night just easy to see) Several additional bases to the map including: Sabina Square, Cropcircle, Npp, and several other locations around the map. Also soon to come is a player trading area in Sabina square. No Hero OR Bandit Trader (There are special traders that will sell certain thing. Also pricing is worked around so it's fair not to have these.) And much much more!!! I really hope you guys come check out the server. Axeteam welcomes you and It's a pretty new server so plenty of open area for base building! The IP: 91.121.20.119:2392 Also If you wanna see a video of what the server looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISL8Ms2TT1E Forgive my horrible acting skills. -
Building Materials on actual later spawn site?
Maca (DayZ) replied to Demonica's topic in General Discussion
Construction sites have been in the mod/arma for a very long time. That's where a lot of the parts for heli's and vehicles could be found also at the indurstial sites. OP more that likely when base building is implemented the same rules will apply as in finding building material, the obvious place will be these locations. We'll just have to wait and see. -
Hey Guys, so I guess no one really knows for sure, but I'd like to pick your guys' brains a little. Sometimes when taking my morning jog through some smaller towns, I pass by building materials like stacks of 2x4's or stumble over bricks at constrution sites (makes sense, duh.). But: when I see those materials, does that mean those will be actual spawn sites for them later, once base building and vehicles are implemented, or will they stay decorative, or will the material behave like any other loot and spawn somewhat randomly in size and numbers? What was that like in the mod? Can we use the mod to conclude what's it gonna be like in the SA version? Cause heck, if we can foresee which material spawns where, I'm sure there'll be campers up north hogging the places for their own bases ^^ Happy trails!

Pending Changelog: Experimental Branch: 0.42.116002
Private Evans replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
I personally don't need 100 or more players running around mainly doing nothing else than shooting each other....For me encreasing the number of players should be one of the last things to be implemented. There is absolutely no sense in having more than 40 players on a server as long as there are no proper number of zeds..and by proper number I mean masses, no animals, vehicles and features as persistent items and base building..I see DayZ still as a zombie survival game in which player interaction should be the icing on the cake....sadly for most people it is just another clan shooter including survival aspects and a few zombies. Having 100 or more players on a server will make this even worse.... but that's just me :-) -
Pending Changelog: Experimental Branch: 0.42.116002
HardstylerSL replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Basicly all the new stuff / identities (zeds, loot, animals later vehicles etc.) and new mechanics might push to a level where no server could handle the game anymore. It is yet pretty "expensive" in terms of hardware / bandwidht usage and imho i fear if everything is in place its gonna be impossible to get this game running with 100+ people on a server, cause everything is tested (as far as i know) only with max. 40 players. It makes a hugh difference cause more players -> more data needs to be sended/recived & worked on ; And i think the physics need to be done serverside, try imagin a item is getting moved by a player and 10 other player "look" at it, so the data is getting hugh ... now think about elektro , maybe 50 players in it, all manipulating the world (items etc.) ... guess no server could handle it, unless they really rework the whole stuff. OR they raise the playercap now and look if everything is working as intended with 100+ players on a server. EDIT : I dont think anyone will directly be affected by this scenario, but i longterm the game isnt getting to a point where it should be (more players/features) but as i wrote in my first post, it will suck either way : features might get deleted , maxplayers staying on 40 or developement is going to be delayed pretty much. -
He is a proper DAYZ mod player not like you or most of the people lately here shown up after DAYZ SA. So almost 2 years is correct statement. You newbies think that DAYZ SA a "New Game" however it's not. And OP is perfectly summarized it , almost 90% of it spot on.Only addition to his, could be some more RP also has been going on in DAYZ. (And Actually you're having fun coz you have friends around and it's still intense to run around, due to you have no clue if someone awaits you to hunt you down or your friend). High lvl of paranoia all the way still. Just due to lack of content atm, it's so basic than ever before, hence not a lot to do. Whenever they start adding vehicles,wildlife,(tents/camping/storage) and maybe in far future "building" or "House Holding". Things will change, but cores of the player behaviour will barely gonna change.

Good vanilla servers on the mod are extremly rare nowadays since admins who run the servers are 12 years old COD freaks that feel the need to spawn 2.4 million vehicles, give you a M107 + Ghillie + M9SD + enough food to survive a whole year + a stinger with 25 bloodbags /w self bloodbag script. I remember the excitement of finding a good weapon ... or a vehicle... it was much more fun... and imagine finding a broken helicopter with your squad then some of you camp the area to protect it and the others go search for parts to fix it .. :P It was far more enjoyable than see fully repaired Mi8s on the coast :( But yeah, if you find a good populated vanilla server let us know.

After 135h of playing the standalone, i decided to have a look at the mod. Unfortunately i cant find a regular server. They are all heavily modded. You have huge loadouts, 500+ vehicles and so on... an this suxx imo...

Why Private Hives should be limited when they become available
oregonized replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Well, if you or anyone else would like to play on a server with very minimal mods just send me a private message for the info. You spawn with nothing but a map and flashlight. There are up to 500 vehicles on the map at once, keymaster mod so you only need one key for all of your vehicles, roaming AI, and AI missions. It's not completely vanilla, but you won't be finding vehicles every 5 meters or spawning with a full arsenal. The guy who runs the server is a friend and has a "no admin intervention" rule. Even if you die or lose something because of a bug or server restart, tough shit. -
Why Private Hives should be limited when they become available
Capo replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
I'm glad you asked, while the SA has been out for over three months, I would still call that picture an accurate representation of an Australian server search with a 210 ping filter from about June last year, and as you can see, EVERY server is some variation on extra vehicles/spawn with guns. That being said, what filter set would you use? say, lower the ping filter obviously, I'm not going to play with 200 ping, and of course hide Epoch, breaking point (mods in general) - then we end up with - basically the same thing, but there must be SOME vanilla public hive servers with people in them, right? RIGHT? -

oregonized replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
He made no points worth noting and looked to be crying because some people had donor incentives or more vehicles on the map. Have you even playd the mod lately? I haven't played on any servers with donor incentives or any ridiculous shit like you guys claim. Oh, that's right... you chose to play on those servers, then cry about it on the forums. Are you so immature that you can't handle being proven wrong that you have to resort to insulting my name? Yes, let's talk about things that don't help your cause shall we. -
agreed with better respawn on Loot and zombies, but remember there are glitches like wallhacking zombies, that should be fixed first. ITs a Alpha. no need to rush everything, what we need are vehicles atm, running is just too slow :P

Why Private Hives should be limited when they become available
Capo replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
B-B-Bulllllshit. Private hives do entirely solve a few issues such as serverhopping and ghosting. But then bring a whole load of new ones, such as shitty admins, and stupid mods which make the game more casual. If the devs set up their own private hives that would be amazing, but while private hive administration is in the hands of players it nearly always comes down to 1000 vehicles and donor loadouts. Because private hives need those things to survive. so no, private hives the way the mod had them was complete shit. People don't donate without incentives, and so admins have to offer them. This is the reply I received when I asked for a more vanilla private hive on the news that the server I was playing on was getting replaced: "Well you got to think about it, this is a private hive for a reason, which is because of the extra building, clan bases, kits, and all that other good stuff that vanilla servers don't provide, there is or was nothing vanilla about #1 at all, even when #1 was popular. If you really want a vanilla Epoch server or in your case Vanilla DayZ, go play the public hive DayZ server, 100% Vanilla." This statement was made at a time when you were lucky if there was one aussie public hive server up with 20 people in it. So while I understand exactly why a lot of private hives are the way they are, it's still fucking shit. -
Why Private Hives should be limited when they become available
hannibaldaplaya replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
That "Who the fuck are you to tell people how to play the game?" was hostile and uncalled for. If you are going to argue against my point, please be civil. Now, since the initial post was a bit rushed and simplified, let me explain to you why private hives tore apart the mod. Firstly, private hives can be good. The problem is, a lot of private hives on the mod ended up taking away most of the difficulty from the game. Instead of adding cool user-made content, it just made the game easier. It made it less about survival and more of an open world deathmatch with zombies and cars at every corner. Now, this is fine if those servers that are basically pissing on the intended experience are isolated. The problem is, the market for DayZ Mod servers got FILLED with them. Private Hives with stuff like self-bloodbag, increased rate of vehicle spawns, and military-grade spawning loadouts outnumber vanilla public hive servers on the mod. I had legitimate trouble finding a server on the mod where I didn't spawn with a gun, or where the spawnrates of both weapons and vehicles were increased drastically. You're putting the argument out that I shouldn't be allowed to "tell people how to play the game". Well, here is the problem, pal. If Private Hives emerge in the Standalone that pussify the experience, I will no longer be able to play the game how I like to. Which is without the ability to bloodbag myself, spawn in with a sniper, and find an SUV on every single street in the map. That isn't fun to me. Spawning in with end-game shit is not fun to me. Plus, getting shot at by admins who spawned themselves in guns isn't fun either, especially when they can ban you if you kill them. Look at Rust, a game I don't really like (for good reasons). It has tons of issues with admin abuse. I don't want DayZ SA to have these issues, though we're already seeing them with the abuse of kicking (though this can get their server taken down, yay.) -
Why Private Hives should be limited when they become available
theirongiant replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
I'm going to play devils advocate here and say that people should be allowed to run private servers as they see fit. This thread smacks of why-doesn't-everyone-play-it-my-way-ism. I played vanilla 90% of the time and I never once had an issue finding good servers and I don't believe for a second that anyone else couldn't either. If people want to play with loads of vehicles and loads of weapons then surely they are exactly the kind of people that you don't in a vanilla game. -

pacific_coast replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
lots of people like infitity vehicles and spawning fully geared. the modded servers are an example of dayZ mod players not liking the vanilla branch. server admins adapt and profit. i have no problem with private hives. i have no problem with admins selling loadouts for donations. i just don't play on those servers.
