    Zombie dogs and spiders and snakes

    (Some) Players spend a lot of time around camp fires and fishing, to bring a much needed relief to the sometimes overwhelming atmosphere of DayZ. Having a snake/spider bite you while doing either of these things would not bring anything "constructive" to the experience I feel. Endurance Sniping (spending hours camping with your Sniper Rifle for a worthy goal, hijacking vehicles etc) would also become even more problematic. If I remember correctly, the idea's been touched on but immediately dropped because the country that chernarus is based didn't have many or any deadly snakes or spiders. I suppose we'll have dogs soon as pets. looking after your dog may involve treating it for illness/sickness.. maybe even rabies? Sounds more believable considering....

    Larger Map

    For 40 players the map seems big enough though thats hard to say as most game dynamics are not final. With rarer loot, loot respawn management, lower walk speed, vehicles, fixed server hopping etc. we might see more action all over the map. A bigger map would also require more resources and more players. So I agree with the others who said "quality over quantity" - for now.

    POLL: What if DayZ was made by a different company?

    If DayZ was made by EA they would rush the game (current feature list with fixed issues and optimization) to be finished just before Christmas. Vehicles and specialist weapons would be paid DLC appearing in 2015. And in December 2015 "DayZ II - Survivor Tales in Chernarus" would be released, featuring a different set of weapons and better graphics. Last DayZ patch would be in January 2016 and introduce some major gameplay changes that would make the game much less enjoyable. Then DayZ II would get vehicles and specialist weapons as paid DLC. Just before Christmas 2016 they would release the Addon "DayZ II - Survivor Tales in Chernaus: Zombie Hunter" which will get paid DLC the following year as well.

    Is it to easy to gear up?

    Gearing up is too easy. In the current .48 Stable branch that I play now, I hardly feel any pang of dissatisfaction at having a character be reset either through a extraordinarily-convenient-for-certain-clans-my-group-is-about-to-murder restart in a [ZaP] server or just running into some murderous Russian speaking psychopath. Gearing up is so EASY now that It's actually kind of "fun" to see how fast you can get your hands on a weapon and some olive/brown clothing. Seriously, I don't think people realize just how common weapons, ammunition, and good clothing are and how many spawns they run by all the time that can give them amazing gear. Rusty vehicles are goldmines for ammunition and for weapons, even now when you can't see the police cars. I AM SHOCKED HOW MANY PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW THAT KALASHNIKOVS SPAWN IN JEEPS. There. I said something true. Give me beans, dammit.

    erh... It was about 25 vehicles in the mod. Military weapon was just as rare. When I started, only my group had vehicles and military weapons. Until ppl figured out how the game mechanic worked. And intentional and unintentional duping become a major problem. Military loot today aint really the issue, but how easy it's to obtain those items. I mean why would I choose the bow over an AKM. At the moment there is no point to even think about the bow. To make a bow, I need to find recipes for it. To find the recipes can be challenging and time consuming. Even making the arrows is a difficult task. Coz I haven't even seen a chicken yet. So I rather take walk to NWAF. After one trip, I'm fully geared with vests, camo pants/jacket, ballistic helmet, AK,ammo, food, drinks and so on. Basically I get fully geared in no time. Just by visiting the airfield once. Looking for that chicken could take me the whole day.I'm glad this is just alpha. Because currently this game lacks of character progression. We are supposed to start with nothing. Then slowly develop our character. Maybe crafting some clothes and basic weapons. And meele weapons should be your first weapon. Then you find new stuff and you slowly improve what you have. You may have baseball bat. How do you make it more lethal? Maybe you can find some nails in a shed and attach it to your baseball bat? Hopefully we will see character progressions that goes step by step. Instead of just running into a military base and ur done. Hopefully they make places with high value loot dangerous. Military areas should be like hell and risky. A place with radiation, toxic air, mutants or similar. So hopefully u have made or found gear that can handle those environments. At minimum it should require basic hand weapons like shotguns, pistols, hunting rifles, a gas mask, boots. To enter certain places that contains high value loot. I wish those area had similar environment as the game Stalker. Dayum I really hate replying with the phone...

    It would different for sure. But honestly, vaguely like that there's no way to know "how different" it would be for sure. If a company like Bethesda made DayZ, it would probably be similar to Fallout 3 or TES series (Except TESO, which isn't a real TES game... I've been in 4 different beta tests and it's not a TES game. It's a an MMO in TES universe.) in terms of open world style game. But if it was the case, we probably wouldn't have access to the Alpha or Beta. Again, all this is pure speculation. I'm currently testing/playing about 8 to 12 different alphas and betas, and at least half of those are of the zombie survival genre, and they all feel very different despite being of the same category. (Alpha/Beta games of the same genre I play/test : Project Zomboid since the beginning, when the only thing there was was a tutorial with a few houses and 2 streets..., The Dead Linger since Alpha 1, 7 Days to Die since Alpha 1, Nether since pre-release alpha, etc.) There's one that I totally quit though. WarZ/Infestation: Survivor Stories. I per-ordered it like a lot did assuming it was going to be an awesome zombie survival game. It started to get weird when after 2 weeks of alpha, without any progress done, the game switched to beta stage. And when in December they called it a "full complete game", they lost all credibility. Despite major changes to some mechanics, other maps, addition of "crafting" and a finally "vehicles" (yes, "vehicles"...) the game never delivered what it tried to do initially. I had some fun and enjoyed some moments spend in game with friends, but it's truly an example not to follow when making a video game. Anyway, interesting post. I like DayZ SA current alpha state the way it is. Quite a lot. I like the direction it's taking and even at this early stage, I have lots of fun playing it.

    POLL: What if DayZ was made by a different company?

    This is - an interesting poll. Here's some things to consider. Would DayZ feel and play differently? Bohemia had the luxury of the Arma engine and successful mod to start with as a base, but it's almost like "Pimp my ride" on Mtv where they take a run of the mill vehicle and try to pimp it out for another purpose. Some things get removed, some things get completely replaced, some things just get some lipstick and a paint job, and some of the framework that works might just stay in place. That's what they're doing, so even what we're used to now will still change considerably as things are tweaked, tuned, fixed, etc. The answer is yes it would be different, but not better, certainly not at this point in the dev cycle. Would DayZ have more or less glitches? Would the base systems such as movement feel less clunky? Likely not at this point in the early alpha dev cycle. Most people don't even get access to a game at this early unfinished stage unless you're a paid tester. Most games don't even let the outside world see it until it's proclaimed at least "beta". Do you think DayZ would have any different features, such as destructable world, easter eggs etc? Of course, but there's still a lot coming, I'm not sure how to guess a measure on features and content completed by I would have to venture a guess that they're not even half way there yet. Barricades, vehicles, all coming, and the mod had destructable buildings and I see no reason why they couldn't/wouldn't add that to standalone as well. Heck, I can already chop down any tree in the world!Early Access Alpha - it's glitchy, buggy, many features not implemented yet, etc by design because it's Early Access Alpha. Many companies wouldn't even take the risk of doing an early access alpha, it's a fairly new phenomena. I'm not defending Bohemia, but as I've gotten engaged in the community, tried to read up and understand the history of what's happened and keep an ear into what's going on, it all makes sense and I can tell you that I've already gotten my money's worth out of the game. I certainly look forward to each Wednesday to find out what's been fixed, added, tweaked, etc. It's a work in progress and ever changing which keeps things interesting. I'm almost concerned about a final stable product that doesn't change keeping me engaged!

    It was not a personal attack but rather legitimate questions. In some regards and some aspects I will agree. I think some of you jumped on my post and that's primarily my fault in the wording I chose as if saying everything on the roadmap was accounted for. I should have worded it by saying the majority of the roadmap is accounted for. My apology for causing the uproar. Make no mistake barricading is very important to me. I am looking towards it more than vehicles. However to say that barricading is more important than zombies clipping through buildings is just nonsense and you know it. It was one of the biggest complaints and still is. What is the point of barricading if zombies are just going to walk through it??? What are you talking about? I don't have any issues with what anyone has said in this thread and respect their opinion.

    They are on track with the roadmap. Really? So in 1 month they will add multi.thread/multi-core, advanced animals, new zombie behaviour, central loot economy, barricading, basic vehicles, modding support, player statistics and horticulture. Oh yea you are right they seems pretty much right on track with the roadmap.

    Yes, more than any vehicle. Even more than a helicopter. Only for the reason that horses would inadvertently becomes mans main transportation after an Apoc. So without them it wouldn't feel right. Plus as stated vehicles will require a groups worth of effort to get started while a horse can be taken on by one man. Add in dogs before or after and we have a winner... Don't get me wrong I still want my choppers!

    i always wondered if walking dead was out and he decided to make a zombie mod. lets ve clear the mod was amazing ! fresh breath of air in stagnated times. some of the best fun and gameplay ive had in many a year. so hats off to rocket for that and those that helped him. cant fault it . i still prefer the mod over standalone bugs and all as its still more playable and more fun. the sa has been taken over from rocket hes more of a puppet to it. the progress has been shit if we honest and many who loved this idea of Dayz dont even play standalone now ! they either playing breaking point, the mod still , or waiting for H1Z1 and the other army of crappy clones. much time has been wasted on getting simple things done and time spent doing things that shouldnt of beendone like making a complicated melee system . why even do that axe chop dead. the game should of been kept simple and work and content. if that would of been kept maybe we would be further along. do i want rocket gone to me he is gone and has been since the other devs have been doing his job. rockets just that picture for interviews and on steam when it sys dayz. everyone knows that the other devs are doing the sa not really him. all i ask is the team starts getting to what really needs to be done to save this game from being a total mess and other games beating it out because they embrace what most dayz players want. simple like the mod with fighting not crafting leather under pants !!! who the fruck wants to craft leather in a zombie apocalypse ? :rolleyes: we want action fights zombies !!! not craft something useless that we wont use ! thats how out of touch the devs are ! this game is mainly played by PVP people not crafting wowtards. most people just love to mame , kill , destroy and steal shit. not make flower baskets craft a pair of shoes out of a milk bottle. wake up bring zombies, bring action , bring vehicles , bring base building. thats free and what most want. stop overcomplicating shit for the sake of it. H1Z1 is doing this its just ripping all the vest bits from the best games in the genre like rust with airdrops and bits from dayz and putting in what people want. take note or this game will go down the shitter faster than a indian curry.

    This is a great question. I would think that barricade work can be put in the game a lot easier than vehicles. So I see you point as to why is there no talk about it lately. It's safe to say that they probably realized that fixing the engine, ambient noises, and major stuff like that is sucking up their time and resources. Which is understandable. It looks like we are seeing the issues of having such a small staff for months, and months now biting them in the butt. We also have not heard anything about the ambient sound progress since hiring dedicated sound people.

    I don't think that's the right way of looking at it. In gameplay terms, we don't actually need hunting yet in order to survive (because lootable food is so abundant) but we've still got hunting mechanics. It's not a case of balancing gameplay elements, it's a case of just getting features in the game. DayZ is (apparently) on course to be "feature complete" by the end of 2014: zombies, as a feature, are technically in the game already so I wouldn't expect them to be perfected until well into next year; whereas, we should have barricading, vehicles, and everything else - in some clunky and unfinished form or other - all in the next 4 months.

    Please no more guns, there are enough already. Horses and/or bikes would be better alternative to vehicles, and in anyway gas should be scarce to gather. Keep making the game more challenging to survive.
