New player here. I've played around 10 hours on public servers, and much more time on my own private server to give the game a fair shake. I gotta say it doesn't even feel like it's out of beta, much less on a "stable release" Development standards sure have slipped over the past decade. Too many "early release" suckers buying games that are not ready to be sold, and developers like this just taking their money and then laughing at em behind their back. I guess that's what happens when your primary clients are teenager/kids without any sense of monetary value. So, major problems with the game: 1. Zombies clip through everything, cars, building etc. They still spawn on top of buildings and bug out not letting you out of cars etc. The zombie AI in general in this game is absolute not even in an early release state. It's like in a dev sandbox state where it seems 90% of the code is missing. What gives after 5+ years of being "released"? 2. Items have the same problem, often times not being visible because they've sank through the floors etc. 3, the graphics and textures for most things are terrible, yet the game suffers from atrocious framerate. GTX 2080 + i9 9820x cpu and getting barely 70-100 fps on graphics this dated shows how poorly optimized the game really is. 4. The central loot economy is laughable at best. In about 40 hours total of game play, I've seen towns where most sheds have the same item in this, almost as if all sheds got stuck on the same rng number and spawned the same exact item. 10-15 in the same town. in one small town that had a total of 19 sheds, 14 had glow sticks for example. Complete vanilla server, no changes to anything in the types file etc. Experienced this on both public and private server(s) 5.Vehicles. I just can't really say enough. Pausing/de syncing/crashing etc. A vehicle based on the Golf GTI can't go up a minor hill on a paved road. even in a post apoc world this makes no sense. I've driven a golf GTI that pretty much had been through a zombie apocalypse and can say vehicles wouldn't act anything like they do in game even in the worst of conditions. 6. The inventory/interaction system. ie. Reloading for example. The empty clip just goes into some random bag/slot in your inventory and ignores where it's replacement came from. Lack of any type of sorting of items intelligence when picking up items. Not letting you switch to a weapon because of said system etc. So incredibly annoying. The inventory in general is what put me off the most from this game. It's a clunky hot mess and you should not be charging customers for a "standalone" game when it's in this condition. You should be embarrassed as developers for this alone, but in general I'd love to sit down over lunch with the team most responsible for this, and seriously run you through the ringers. I'd first ask you what went wrong with your life that you did this to other people and go from there. 7. The entire user interface in general. Vicinity for example, just doesn't work. Standing right over top something and it doesn't show up. Interaction with doors or other items feels so incredibly clunky and you never really feel confident if your keystroke registered. Getting out of a car for example, jumping a fence, crafting etc. They all result in key mashing because of lack of confidence in the input. It's not pleasant to say the least. 8. Char movement. Walking off a ledge and you hover for 10 seconds waiving your feet and then land 4 inches down on tthe ground and roll like you've dropped off a 2 story building. just terrible. Running down stairs and then suddenly leap as if you hit the jump key. Even with no gear on, char's move like they have bricks in their shoes and movement in general is just so clunky. 12" ledge on the ground? Let's do the scaling a 100 foot vertical cliff animation for 10 seconds! ROFL The more time/experience in this game and I'm sure all of the above problems will scale or mutate into bigger ones. I'm sure there are some super high hour players who will look at my complaints and think or comment on how trivial they are compared to "actual" complaints but for me, as a new players, they are why I've uninstalled and and hid from my list. In short, Input, poor performance, world glitches/bugs,loot, char movement/feel and NPC interaction are completely broken. Not even close to a 1.0 state and imho, I'd be embarrassed to be involved in the development team who made such a claim. so much potential in this game, such poor vision and development path, again, IMHO and just wanted to offer some feedback.

The client-server communication I don't know if they can ever fix. But since this thread was posted they fixed the brakes somewhat, in Patch 1.08. Why they released a game where braking sends you into four-wheel skid and didn't improve it for 7 months, I don't know. It didn't feel like a full release to me. From that one change vehicles drive significantly better now. "Changed: Vehicle brake power is now increased over time instead of instantly" This was not a bad run. Handling is still terrible and slow to respond. Modding values shows there's maybe some potential for improvement.

The Dead Return SA (TDRSA) is the spiritual successor of The Dead Return for Arma2:DayZMod which has been around since March, 2016. The TDRSA modlist has been refreshed! TDRSA is lightly modded for variety and enhanced gameplay. TDRSA has a bit of that A2:dayzmod feeling with spawn selection, A2 weapons, groups, global chat and airdrop. TDRSA also has enhanced base building, toxic zones, extra gear, guns and vehicles. The new items have been added carefully and some will be rare. You won't find an AR in every house and you'll still have to work to get over that initial food + water hump. The amount of heli crashes is doubled to 6, the gunter and sarka have been removed (plenty of new vehs), KrasAF/NEAF has been enhanced and there are lots more infected! These issues are consistent for us on both. Makes no difference so far. Honestly, I can't tell you what the triggers are for some of these issues. Only that these are not necessarily unique to jsut me of a couple others as they have been widely reported. I'm also not dismissing that others may not have to the same problems and/or frequency of them. Again, at one point after an update, I was suddenly able to drive vehicles @ 50kph or above with far fewer incidents of freezes and even some glitches (e.g. car begins to bounce around, flipping in the air, clipping through map, etc.). At the time I had upgraded to the ext SSD and installed DayZ on that but I don't know for sure if that was the reason my performance improved. ....in cars at least. The issue with the stuttering was introduced a couple updates ago. I discovered you could stop or "reset" it by simply tapping the inventory wheel button (R1 IIRC). Unfortunately, this has to be done every 30 seconds or so. This issue is also not unique to just a select few. The persistent problems with the inventory, using the reload button, stuttering, frame rate issues in towns, vehicle lag / glitches, etc. don;t necessarily change based on whether I'm on an official server, someone else's community server or my own.

Yeh, that's my thinking as well. This map, while pretty good and fairly large for on foot, is just too small for vehicles. Helicopters would just wreck the game. Even in a car, you can zip around it in an hour.

Base Building - Do's and Don'ts (DayZ Standalone)

Hi guys. This is my personal opinion about base building in DayZ standalone. It has a few do's and don'ts, along with a few other comments about the idea. Please remember that this is my own personal opinion. If you do not agree with it, please be polite about it. First things first, why add base building? It would become a cool new aspect of the game that I think would be really fun. You could board up houses to store items, etc. If you area bandit, you could find a house and break into it. It would become something quite fun. However, theres a few things that are mostly involved with realism that shouldn't be implimented. Here are the Do's and Don'ts. Do add base building (incase you didn't know) Do allow the boarding up of enterable houses Do allow people to make fences and wooden planks to board up items from tree logs Do add more items into the games such as locks, candles, individual hammers, and nails (i know nails are already in the game) Do allow as many building materials as possible, as long as they are realistic and you could probably find them in real life. Do add stuff such as spray paint that will allow people to customize and identify there houses (or just draw a penis) Don't make base building completely unrealistic (you could board up some walls and repair a fence, but you won't be able to build an actual house during an apocalypse unless you really have a lot of spare time and you've built houses in the past. Building a tiny little shed could be an exception, though it would be almost as small as a tent) Don't make getting materials too easy (You can't punch down a tree with your bare fist) Don't get carried away with crafting (This isn't minecraft, and unfortunately in real life, at least not currently, you can't make enchantment tables to give your guns godly powers) Basically, keep it realistically; DayZ is know for being realistic (Before the SoS trend came). If your not quite sure if you want to add something, just think, could I do that in real life? You can board up a door in real life. Thats is a yes. You can't punch down 5 trees with your bare hands and use those logs to make a house, chests, and a shovel to dig a hole later to be used as a toilet(though if I could...). A couple other things to think about: Will these boarded up houses transfer over on different servers? Could people affect the actual map houses by destroying part of the wall with a hatchet lets say? Will these boarded houses stay forever or disappear(like vehicles)? If so, how long? I talked to someone a while back about the basebuilding and he mentioned how Dayz bases were like fortresses in the mod, people would use helicopters to enter and leave and it just provided monolithic middle fingers to people who wanted to play a survival game. I am not really experienced myself about the mod I never played it but the way basebuilding is open air fencing/towers, helicopters would jump from one base to the next whenever they wanted and would only force people to build more inside of barns and such....which is why the base building for the expansion mod is so blocky. But also as the Derleth has said, this map is to small for helicopters. Even to think that byplanes would make it in with few runways or places to put them, such long range vehicles ruin the experience without a bigger map if you are not already jaded.

PS4 original with the game installed on an external Samsung SSD T5. Some of these issues are not as pronounced for some but worse for others. Servers also seem to be a variable in some cases. The claims are valid but again, not necessarily experienced by all nor at the same level of severity. There's plenty of examples to show that. btw, sometime after an update and switching to an external SSD I had a notable improvement in the driveability of vehicles in DayZ. While lagging and glitching are still problems, they weren't near the issue they were for me before. Previous to that, I often couldn't faster than a running pace without encountering freezes and subsequent wrecks. Noww, I can regularly travel 50+ KPH with a couple stutters here and there. My friend playing on the same server can't. The issues are real and expressed my many.

While I do agree that the game is in a really good state, the above statement is a bit false. Stuff still missing that was in legacy builds: Guns: Crossbow, crafted bow and Steyr as you say Longhorn Deringer Trumpet RAK MP133 Pistol Grip Red 9 Atlas bipod Melee: Spear Pitchfork Farming hoe Chainsaw Cattle prod Stun baton Police baton Telescopic baton Pipe wrench Hockey stick Paddle Cleaver Sickle Fire extinguisher Meat tenderizer Ice axe Hay Hook Sword Mace Broom Field shovel Crafting: Tripwire trap Fish trap Rabbit snare Leather crafting Dyeing Spray paint (weapons and helmets) Mechanics: Broken limbs Wound infection Cardiac arrest Heated food losing heat Fresh food going rotten Damaged canned food causing food poisoning Poisonous mushrooms and berries Vehicles: V3S Truck Transit bus I've probably forgotten something, I listed the above from memory, but it is more than a handful of guns that is still in the backlog... While the game does play well without these things and nearly all of them can be had already thanks to mods, they are sorely needed back because without them the vanilla game is simply too shallow. Only time I ever play vanilla these days is when there's an experimental build to be tested. Other than that I stick to survival servers modded to stay closer to legacy balance and features.

@Boroda Thug is right. The problem is that the updates we get don't fix the long standing, fundamental problems with the game (e.g. glitching vehicles, reloads, inventory management issues, etc.). Instead we get new problems introduced by the new updates that then have to be resolved with hotfixes. To make matters worse, the new issues introduced by the updates aren't always resolved so we are then stuck with new problems that persist like the stuttering caused about 3 updates ago. .....the one where you need to quickly open your inventory wheel every 30 seconds or so to make it stop. .....or some of the inventory scrolling issues, items still getting stuck in containers, cars and so on. The team had said that this was the time they were essentially done with add ons and would be concentrating more on performance / QA. The thing is, the way they roll these updates out and hotfixes, it seems they ignore the bigger issues more directly related to console. I used to rent a server which I finally gave up until about an update or two ago but then figured I would rent for a month and see if things had changed. ......they didn't so I let it lapse one more time and now I'm just waiting to see if the PS5 will somehow help with some of these lagging issues at the very least which (hopefully) will make cars more driveable in towns and movement stop stuttering. The problem is, BI doesn't really communicate like they did when they first introduced DayZ to console with their livestream, Q&A, etc. They had a renewed commitment back then but that quickly faded away as they concentrated on new DLC and a physical release when things were still not fixed. Personally, I'd like to see what their plans are for the future regarding these long standing issues that can greatly affect the quality of the gameplay. .....and on the eve of the PS5 release, I'd like to see what the future holds for DayZ going forward (e.g. PS5 enhancements, performance testing and so on). Lots of folks have talked about the struggles of a game like DayZ due to power limitation with consoles so I wonder if they are already looking to optimize for the new generation. It seems to me that this would be a golden opportunity for DayZ to finally get to a much more stable state and become the game that a lot of us know it can. I just hope PS5 doesn't become just another money grab opportunity for a "remaster" like the physical copies and DLC.

The Syntax Community has made a server for DayZ. We come from FiveM and have decided to start up a more authentic Dayz server with a hardcore feel. If you are interested in a server that is 1st person and on the hardcore side I would recommend checking our server out. We have tweaked Syntax Chernarus to provide a hardcore experience while keeping the nuisances at bay. We have a custom stamina, weight, hold breathe system, loot tables, persistence times, airdrop settings, map edits (new points of interest on Chernarus instead of going Stary-->NWAF, you can go to NEAF/Balota and more! Overview There is no trader or base building Loot spawns for various items (food/water/maps/compasses are higher than usual). If you have map you can press M and it will display your ingame location on the map, as well as show where airdrops have landed. Airdrops have 4 different tiers. (one airdrop will literally drop car parts / gas / tents) Various points of interests to change the gameplay loop of chernarus. You can use tents / chests to store things for 14days. Various modded in clothing and weapons from the community. Custom stamina/hold breathe system. Vehicles/helicopters Quick steps to join the server: If you are new to DayZ, make sure you have launched it at least once from Steam, and then exited the game. Download the DZSA Launcher from https://dayzsalauncher.com/#/home Run the DZSA Launcher, click Settings, verify your DayZ path and set your ingame name. Make sure to set your in-game name to something that is not survivor and does not contain special characters or you will be kicked. Filter for Syntax Chernarus and hit play and you'll be in the server once the mods are downloaded by the launcher. You are totally right. I remember problems in DayZ-mod where we would be driving with more than one vehicle and lag caused collisions that never actually happened, but driving one car alone was never a problem. It's a shame because vehicles are the most exciting part of DayZ for me and the crew I play with. Not only is walking everywhere super boring, but driving in a car automatically puts a giant bullseye on your back and makes the game even more intense and nerve wracking. It's such a bummer to me that they still haven't figured out how to make this work. Other games have perfectly functioning vehicles, why is it so hard for DayZ?!

why can't i take out ruined radiators/spark plugs out of vehicles anymore? it doesn't bring up the option to take to hands(HOLD) was it included in this update?

Or u need a roof NO BASE GRIEFING, this means no logging out in someone's base, do not take apart the walls or leave stuff on the floor to despawn, you cannot take over a base. No glitching into a base, this means if you cant get in through a door or the roof hatch or some form of normal entry.... move on this base ain't for you. This server uses BBP, and we'll help you learn how!!! Please just think realistically when raiding on 420, if it's not possible right now then build your arsenal until it is. Vanilla building is not recommended nor will admin comp for vanilla building raids or mishaps Bases may have no more than 11 doors/gates/hatches Bases may be no more than 5x5, if you want a 4x6 or 3x7 ect is fine No more than 3 stories tall bases may have no more than 8 tents of your choice You may have 1 main base to specs above, outpost is 2x2 and 2 stories tall max Players/bases/groups may have no more than 60 cannabis plants at one time Please be realistic when building to help server performance in the long run, the bigger the bases and the more stuff you horde in them will cause us to need wipes sooner, We are trying to not wipe except for in between DayZ updates as wipes are typically required. If anybody's base is currently not to the specs above let us know and we will help correct it. Safe Zone Rules: No stealing from players vehicles, this means if they are in the inventory or at there vehicle and it is open for them to do things to it then stay away and have some decency Do not throw explosives of any kind at the traders, including flashbangs and grenades Do not follow people from a safe zone Do not sit in someones car so they cant lock it or drive away Do not block a player in the corner so he cant move You MUST still lock your vehicle in the safe zones when you are not at it, if you leave it open someone will surely steal it and thats on you just as it is irl In general this is DayZ, think logically and dont be a dick in the safezones, if someone is breaking the rules of a safezone feel free to record it and share it with admin for follow up. Make a ticket if someone wont get out of your vehicle Admin will have little tolerance for breaking safe zone rules, keep your bandit/toxic attitudes and activities out of the safe zones. PVE ZONE RULES AND ROBBERY PROCEDURES: At 420 I am thriving to create a real world experience as much as possible and yet inviting more player interaction, whether good or bad player interaction makes no difference. There is NO KOS outside of the clearly marked circles on the map and on screen notifications, this also means no shooting from outside in or vice versa. Any player committing bandit activities should record such activities when in the pve area, trust me you want to!!! A player being robbed does not need to co-operate with a bandit, this means he can run or shoot if encountered, this also means the bandit can also shoot you if you run away or tell him you will not co-operate If a player co-operates in a robbery, take what you want from him, you must leave him food, water and shoes.....it must be clean drinkable water and not human meat!!! a co-operative player leaves with his life. If a player is being robbed, you may use a vehicle to escape a robbery, note doing this is risky as the bandits are allowed to fire at you and your vehicle A roadblock is allowed to rob people and vehicles, a proper roadblock must consist of vehicles and people only, not tents, fence kits, barrels or any other item other than people and vehicles A player is allowed to run u over when running a roadblock, vehicles do not go through vehicles, if you cannot go around the roadblock and cannot turn around......you are going to be robbed!! if a player gets stuck at a roadblock and gets out of his vehicle and pulls a weapon you may kill him, he may also kill you if a player gets out of his vehicle and is co-operative, you must not kill them, and must leave above mentioned food, water and shoes If a player is engaged in a robbery and being robbed, friends may fire at a bandit, but only if the bandit is engaged with your friend If you are caught wearing another factions colors, they may kill you for there armband back anywhere on map Factions: Factions at war may take over another factions area by destroying the land claim and replacing it with there own,(This is not active as of yet) Factions that are going to war must declare so in public on discord, the leaders of the fighting factions must agree to war Non faction players bases are not part of the land claiming, only factions bases, the land claim needs to be used by all players due to settings, Factions must name there land after there faction name. Armbands MUST be worn by factions unless at your base, otherwise armbands are a must if a solo player teams up with a faction at war, that player must wear said factions armband when with the faction Factions at war can fight and kos MAP WIDE, pve rules do not apply to factions at war only If a non faction player is killed in a pve zone admin action will be taken, be sure you are shooting at the right people If a player is impersonating a faction and wearing there colors they may kill you. Outposts will need a land claim but are not able to be taken over. Factions at war will remain at war until someone submits, there is a ceasefire declared by the factions, or if admin calls it off for any reason. ALL Players with land claim active any player within the 125m radius of your base may be considered hostile and base defense may take place, there will be on screen notification when u enter base territory(edited) CARS: 1-DO NOT drive over 35 pop 2-As stated above LOCK YOUR CARS always......sz or not lock it up, if its stolen we will not comp 3-NO COMP WILL BE GIVEN: if you drive way offroad and get stuck on a hill, or drive into water 4-Vehicles react negatively around walls, train tracks, buildings, trees, fences, posts and even other cars 5-Cars dont like being trapped inside, they will launch across the map, or despawn completely especially if in a tight space. 6-No vehicle is completely indestructable 7-if you drive to a pvp zone and are killed in your vehicle or lose it in any way in a pvp zone we will do nothing. 8-DO NOT GRIEF CARS, this means shooting tires or the engine, windows ect, if its locked you cannot get in, leave it alone 9-If you are killed and your key is stolen, your car essentially belongs to them, if they have a key, and drive it away even from sz thats on you and we will not comp Most of all, please understand, DayZ and the vehicles available are far from perfect, baby your cars if you value them, always lock them no matter what and dont drive in a pvp zone unless u understand the consequences. Faction Rules: 1-All faction members must be in the discord 2-All faction members MUST wear there armbands when not at base 3-Minimum 3 players to start a faction 4-Factions must have a main leader for faction meetings and events 5-Factions may have 1 main base and 1 outpost base, the outpost base can be no more than 2 stories tall and 2x2 on the ground 6-Factions may have 5 vehicles, 6 if you have one at outpost base 7-When war is declared, there will be a meeting with admin and the factions at war, this will be held at a church somewhere on the map to discuss the war and the politics involved Faction Wars regulations: 1-War must be declared in public on discord between the 2 faction leaders 2-Factions bases must have the land claim in use, you will own a 150m radius on the map surrounding your base, when a player enters this area they will be informed they have entered faction territory. 3-Factions at war may fight and kill each other map wide, be cautious with this as if you murder a non faction member in a pve zone there will be admin consequences to this...... including bans, being stripped and having your colors removed. 4-if a non faction member interferes with a faction war and is not wearing colors, they will also face admin consequences. 5-Until we get more factions and players , base take over rules will NOT apply and i will update this when need be 6-Factions that have declared war will continue to be at war until one faction waves a white flag of submission and defeat 7-Battle logging rules will apply to factions at war in the pve zone, you may NOT log out for during engagement, the safe zones are not to be used to escape engagement or battle, this will be considered battle logging. 8-All pve rules apply between factions and non faction players, non factioned players may still engage faction members in pvp zones and rob faction members in the pve zone. 9-Land claims will only be used by factions at this time, this is going to be the beginning of being able to take over faction to faction bases upon a war between 2 factions(this is not in play yet). 10- the only way another faction or solo player can get your custom armband is to kill you, if you see a player wearing your colors you may kill that player anywhere on the map, be 100% sure its your armband. 11-Consider factions like gangs, same thing, factions may not impersonate another faction. You may collect enemy armbands as trophies, do not wear them, faction impersonation is allowed only by non factioned players. If you run out of armbands let us know and we'll drop you some; since they're custom they won't be in the traders. Armbands are required by all faction members OUTSIDE the base area, if you wanna run around your base area or someone elses base area without an armband so be it..... ANYBODY can raid and as such it really makes zero difference if your wearing it in a base area or not, if you are in the wild they ARE REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES, ghille ponchos may not be worn IN THE WILD for a factioned member...... GHILLE SUITS are allowed, we will not tell people they cant wear a ghille suit, armband must be worn underneath Factions may declare battle or war on each other if/when both faction leaders consent to it. If it is not consensual there will be nothing. Battles: Both faction leaders meet and agree upon a WAGER that both MUST put in a pot. The battle takes place upon neutral ground in a base made by an Administrator. This fight will run for 24hrs starting on the agreed date/time of the leaders. Upon completion the full pot will be given to the victor. -Admin will declare publicly any wars/battles to ensure the safety of innocents

Hi, I have just searched through the threads here to see if anyone else is having similar issues with their Xbox controller in the PC version. I reinstalled my Xbox controller and tried to use it in game- I used to do this regular but only for driving as I much prefer KB&M for everything else. First off I noticed even although I changed the controller settings in game to inverted - it wasn't and wouldn't change unless I inverted the mouse and that's not an option for me as I said I switch back n fourth from controller to KB regular. The controller works its just the button layout that's wrong, i.e. B changes the gear up as it should but A opens the in game chat feature instead of gear down, to move the car I need to press the left stick forwards instead of the right trigger etc etc etc its all messed up. Please if anyone can help me out that would be fantastic. You guys have already helped me with another in game problem I was having- well I wasn't. I was just being err... 'stoopid' but I'm all good with that now. Now I have the cars I need to be able to drive them confidently and I cant very well with KB&M whereas with the controller I am pretty decent at driving. BTW this is a new problem - before I took my lill ole break from DZ I used to use my controller no problem at all. If I remember correctly I messed about with controller settings when I was playing Arma3 ( just for vehicles) and its expansions last summer and don't think I have used my controller with any game since- if that helps ID the problem. Help me DZ forum dudes- you're my only hope! Thanks for reading.
