    Let's talk about car despawn ...

    Here's something else to consider -- do NOT force kill the server using the /F switch. So, in other words: GOOD: taskkill /IM DayZServer_x64.exe BAD: taskkill /IM DayZServer_x64.exe /F When you shut down your server, the last line in your .RPT file should be something like this: 14:00:07.02 --- Termination successfully completed --- If you don't see this line, it means the server did not complete all of its normal shutdown functions. Some parts of these functions include doing any final writes to the persistence files (the .bin files in the storage_1\data folder). If you are force killing the exe with the /F switch, you are opening up the possibility of one or more of these .bin files getting corrupted. If the server was in the middle of writing to one of these files when it was force killed and the file gets corrupted, what do you think happens when the server restarts? What happens is that file gets deleted and recreated, meaning whichever items were being saved in the world in that file are now gone. So, in the case of vehicles.bin, this would mean all cars that had been touched/moved by players would vanish on restart. I have been messing around with DayZ servers since 1.0 launched. I have always shut down the server gracefully. I have NEVER had one of my cars disappear. The cost is only about an additional 15 seconds to shut down the server gracefully (i.e. without the /F switch). I highly recommend you do it that way to avoid this issue.
  2. As a returning player, from my experience it seems that the community has fragmented off into modded servers. IMO the current state of vanilla is barebones. The game looks and runs great but it is severely lacking in content or purpose. It's the same gameplay loop that it's always had. Spawn, run to mili sites gear up die and repeat. Base building may add longevity but even that's barebones (Few wood pieces and tents) and in order to introduce realism vanilla bases are sadly mostly a waste of time. What might take you days / weeks to build and store loot can be wiped clean in a matter of minutes by some bambi and a tool. If we had some tiered base building materials going up to metal and concrete that required explosives to penetrate that would be a game changer but it's unlikely at this stage. The dev's seem to have wound down and are now focusing on smaller content updates that fix bugs and add back legacy content (the odd new gun and food items etc). I suspect they are focused on Arma 4 now. One of the biggest downers is that vehicles were added but they behave terribly on servers and as far as I can tell work on this has been abandoned. It's a real shame because what this game needs more than anything is a mode of transport that doesn't involve getting serious hand injuries from holding shift and forward for what feels like hours and hours. Assuming Arma 4 is getting built on the same engine we may see a major update come to Dayz in the future that massively improves vehicle performance as large scale vehicle combat is a big part of Arma 4. We can only pray... Your best bet is to grab the DZSA launcher and look at community / modded servers. Since mod support came out there have been some pretty big strides made with modders adding a lot of the promised content that never came and building on the vanilla game. A lot of mods are still in their infant stages and due to server performance they can be quite unstable. That said I've been having a blast so far. Expansion mod is probably the most polished addon for Dayz currently that I would recommend. So yeah if you're gunna jump on, find a modded server community that tickles your fancy.

    @Melita01 Regarding your Case 1, this is configurable in the xml files -- you can change it so that ruined items remain longer on the server, although it will apply to all ruined items and will have an impact on performance. As for the mechanic itself, the CLE (Central Loot Economy) handles all ruined things the same regardless of what they are, so whether it's a ruined axe or a ruined car, they will both despawn. This is by design to satisfy the nominal value for the vehicle events to make sure there are that many non-ruined cars available on the server. Shortly after the ruined car despawns, a fresh car is spawned at one of the spawn points defined in cfgeventspawns.xml. I get the frustration regarding the items in the trunk, but personally, I like it the way it is. It forces you to make decisions when you're vulnerable -- you have to decide what items to take with you before you leave because you know the car is going to vanish and there may be players in the area. Regarding your Case 2, check your economy.xml file and make sure you have save="1" for the vehicles line. If it's 0 that means vehicles are not being saved in the persistence files and are therefore subject to despawn. You can check that as well -- the lifetime value in events.xml for the vehicle events. The value is in seconds, so increase that to have cars stick around longer.
  4. Bases on vanilla Dayz servers have never really been a viable goal. The problem is because of two conflicting issues in the game: 1. The concept that any player should always have the ability to break into any base, unlike other games such as rust. This idea has always been what people have envisioned for Dayz for many years, six years ago(!) Brian Hicks mentioned that "no bases should be impenetrable". By the way, I do like this concept but I think it should only be kept to an extent. 2. Bases should never be impenetrable, so players instead have to defend their bases with either traps or themselves because this is more realistic (like what you would see in The Walking Dead). I also like this concept and think it should also be kept to an extent. The problem is that either players have to defend their bases around the clock, or those players just have to accept that the base they spent potentially several days building will be easily broken into in a matter of hours after they log off. Obviously defending your base 24/7 is completely impractical, even if that's more realistic because that's what you would have to do in real life. My solution to this conflict between realism and practicality is: Meet half way by having the ability to stack Hesco barriers up on top of each other to create a stronger base. Hesco barriers are already in the game, they make sense as a much more durable fortification and they fit in the world of Dayz. The hesco boxes should be more common but still rare enough where the process of building a base always starts with making it with wood/metal as it is already, so that the first few days your base looks something like this: During this time your base is a lot more vulnerable like it is in the current game. More time is devoted to protection but no guarantees of it surviving. You would obviously be storing up hesco boxes in this time and raiding other groups in the same stage of base building would likely help you get more boxes. After a fair amount of time accumulating these hesco boxes, you're able to start building something more like this: You should also have the ability to add barbed wire to the top of the hesco walls to prevent players climbing over. After more time the hesco walls could be built up to the maximum limit of 3 boxes high, which offers more protection but also requires a lot more boxes. These bases would be very hard to raid. I know this goes against what many people envisioned for the game including Brian Hicks, but the trade off is that these bases take a lot more effort to build and that effort is rewarded. It also avoids the unnatural feel of many base building mods that we've seen (including those dreaded brown skyscrapers) whilst still being reliably protected. To me this just seems like a no-brainer that this is the direction the developers should take with base building. - It fits in the world of Dayz; - rewards players for effort; - shouldn't be hard to implement since we already have the in-game assets (the boxes) ready and waiting; - somewhat maintains base vulnerability by keeping the "improvised" wood bases relevant, whilst also giving players the option to reliably protect their high-value items, farms, vehicles, etc. if they put in the work; - makes vanilla base building viable without the need for 24/7 protection from base owners for their bases to survive. I would imagine this would create a world where "clans" emerge, that not only base raid and protect their own bases, but can set up trading with each other, create alliances for control and take over other bases too. All this would be possible without the forced role-play you see on some RP servers which I don't like due to their rules on KOS and weird interactions (in my opinion). They would also have a space where they can use features like farming, vehicle maintenance and things that involve electricity like generators and lights (currently a wasted feature) to their full potential. I think this would open up a whole new dynamic in Dayz. Let me know what you guys think. (edit: poor wording)

    It is based on what is written in the events.xml file. Look for events with a name that begins with vehicle. The lifetime value there indicates how long a spawned vehicle will sit in its spawn point before it vanishes. The nominal value indicates how many vehicles ideally should spawn on server start. Whatever that nominal value is, you should have at least that many, but preferably a lot more, spawn points defined for that event in cfgeventspawns.xml. So, let's say you wanted spawned vehicles to stay put for 2 hours. In that case, the lifetime value should be 7200 since that's how many seconds there are in 2 hours.

    Hello, I wont change the default speed settings for the car. In DZ\vehicles\wheeled\config.cpp I found next code: class CfgVehicles { ... class Truck_01_Base: CarScript { ... class SimulationModule: SimulationModule { drive="DRIVE_662"; centralDiffRatio=2.1500001; airDragFrontTotal=0.80000001; class Steering { increaseSpeed[]={0,25,50,15}; decreaseSpeed[]={0,50,50,40}; centeringSpeed[]={0,25,50,15}; }; ... } ... } ... } I don't understand how arrays: inceaseSpeed, reduceSpeed and centeringSpeed - work. What is the logic behind them?I can assume that the elements of the array are tied to the gears: inceaseSpeed[0] - 1st gear, inceaseSpeed[1] - 2nd gear, inceaseSpeed[2] - 3rd gear, inceaseSpeed[3] - may be reverse gear. The question is how do they interact, array elements among themselves and arrays among themselves? Can I see how this is implemented in the native code? What should I be guided by when creating a class of my own car? Thanks in advance for helping me with this issue.

A decent idea came to my mind after i saw a graveyard of abandoned military vehicles near the NWAF. i guess the pictures i attached perfectly match the atmosphere of the post apocalyptic Chernarus. Regarding the way the developers want to emphasize the influence of the USSR onto the country, i reckon the boneyard a great way of diversing DayZ and maybe even recreating the part of the map without changing the general concept of the game.   13. Hello there! I haven't been able to find out much info so I thought I'd ask here as these are my two biggest gripes with this game and put me off playing. Are there any plans from the developers to improve on the user interface or expand the number of vehicles / improve vehicle performance? The UI in Dayz is so unbelievably clunky and ugly. I feel like I spend most of the time faffing around trying to move stuff and figure out what is what, scrolling through all of your storage items. Why not combine your inventory into a single unit which increases in slots depending on the item you are wearing? This would certainly be a step in the right direction. Ontop of sorting your own inventory out it only gets more painful when you are interacting with another storage container or player body etc...There are so many survival games out there now that handle this better for reference. A polish / QOL overhaul to bring the UI into 2021 would be so much appreciated. If the devs aren't handling this I really hope we see modders get access to tools so they can make improvements. Next up vehicles. The walking simulator effect really is beyond boring at this point. I was a massive fan of Arma 3 exile mod and this handled vehicles so well on a map as large as Dayz. I appreciate that vehicles are supposed to be a privilege and I'm all for the hardcore experience but surely we could have some low tier, entry level vehicles that are common around spawn areas like ATVs. Easy to fix or or in full working order but with low fuel. Also what happened to aircraft? A game this hardcore with a map this big is crying for more vehicles and better vehicle performance. I do love this game but it's so hard to get back into at this point for these two reasons and I just hope that improvements are coming or modders get access to the tools to make them better. (BETA) - Fresh server wiped 03/04/2021 The first server to introduce Ranked games to Dayz, Every Friday through to Sunday we will be hosting live Ranked games, At daily start and end times. On Monday through to Friday you can practice for the upcoming ranked match. Battle out against your friends in our Hunger games mode one weekend and extract him to safety in our combat team games the weekend after. We are going to be hosting a wide range of solo, duo and team ranked games each season, including a different variety of maps. Why not just Host a normal server?... Why would we, there are so many servers to choose from currently, and most of them are great, But we wanted to create something different, unique and rewarding. You can earn discord roles for great game play, be rewarded with custom clothing and gun skins and more for winning games. Xp is mainly for bragging rights but at least its not all for nothing, Every Season the leaderboards and player achievements will be stored in the seasons discord channel so players can always look back to see the top players from previous seasons. Players can still play their main server, and play a ranked game here over the weekend, Compete against your friends or random players for your place on the leaderboard, earn xp gain levels and unlock in game rewards.   18. Dear Survivors! CrocaineDayZ is a community dedicated to Host the DeerIsle map for more then one year in Europe now and we just opened a US instance. Our Server is well visited and continously develepod with more custom content beeing added. Our community is PvP oriented and competitive, but due to Server setup you have a good chance to find a friendly conversation instead of KOS. We offer a Trader, but our Trader doesnt allow running to Safezone and get out full geared. Looting is key here to get good stuff wich is why we spend hundreds and hundreds of hours in optimizing our Loot-table. Focus was to create a rewarding feel when roaming and looting over the map.     Car "stuck" bug

    I play on PS4 and while I've experienced a multitude of various issues with vehicles, I can't say I've heard of that one. I'm not trying to dismiss your issue but there are problems of varying degrees that you can run into in this game and they aren't necessarily consistent among players on the same server, etc. I wouldn't expect any support from BI on this though, neither in this forum or on the support page. I've seen many posts including myself looking for solutions with no reply. You're only hope IME is that another customer will chime in and maybe have some sort of work-around. .....but like I said, this one is a little baffling to me. ....sorry.

    And again this is just a whole bunch of hot air... Bringing in more weapons, especially firearms does not hurt but is not a thing that is really needed. Contaminated zones is also nothing new...it is of course an awesome feature but yeah it has been announced and shown to us 4 or 5 years ago. Infected AI and Infected spawn systems has been a pain in the behind since the very start, so thank you for improving it after all these years...Bugfixes...if bugfixing and ballancing are part of a roadmap then we know that there is not really that much on the horizon to be excited for. NO WORD about progress being made on the Enfusion Engine...Nothing about the one and only thing that really matters right now...server performance /physics...No word on new vehicles....No word about the shitty lighting .... New content will be new guns and gear like Hazmat Suits/Gear and Decontamination Showers etc. I guess...stuff that has already been made for Arma3 Contact expansion like Livonia.....not a bad thing but well...

    The problem is the community.... Already on console, players should be happy to have a game like this. Then the PVP players are a cancer for the evolution of the game because they only use 3% of what the game offers but represents too large a part of the community to not be taken into account.... And then the cars, yes it's boring, but the maps are not that big and good players will tend to use their legs (1 hour to cross Chernarus from south to north) .... The game has to stabilise, that's for sure, but it also has to evolve because if the developers don't add weapons, the players will cry and if they don't add a new vehicle with its new colour the "jacky tuning" will cry.... The roadmap is clearly not detailed and certainly not to make promises in the air. On closer inspection there are some very nice things announced in more or less explicit ways.... (I pray for the configurable radiations...) What is really regrettable is that there is no new map announced, that the spear and the bow is still not in the pipes (at least not officially), the same for cannabis and cigarettes or even animal skin clothing, dyeing clothes and making recipes (by the way that you can't really eat lard without vomit would be the idea of the century because nobody eats that in real life...). And to be able to build on slopes again, because we had some very annoying regressions on the building sites... and even to be able to make different walls! (Less wide, higher,) To be able to make a wardrobe in which to put clothes with objects in it so that you can change clothes without having to waltz around with objects.... In short, the problem is the community, and then sony also breaks the balls by preventing the less stable but more regular updates that would certainly allow developers to improve the console porting and to take into account more easily the players' feedback (when you see what some players say, it could be the death of the game in some ways)... Let's not forget that Dayz is a sandbox, those who want an ultra-stable game with lots of weapons and also lots of weapons or vehicles there are plenty of games for that and somewhere you've got the wrong game.

    @Kyiara Your report, while appreciated, lacks any information regarding vehicle stability. The game has come a long way, but one of the major problems that remains and, quite frankly, that you folks have not communicated very well about, are the vehicles. Are you still working on stabilizing them? Are there plans to switch them to being client side instead of server side? Are they already as good as they're ever going to get? Some idea as to what the plans are with vehicles going forward would be nice to know.
