Gamebreaker.tv - Jul 2012 - Interview with Rocket
HalloweeNGT replied to vier0hr's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
-Old engine wich will remain at least till 2013 (Arma3), think about how much time they are spending to fix some basic bugs... now think about how much time they will spend to transfer the whole mod into a new game. Im not saying they are doing a bad work, im saying they are too few devs for a big size project like this. -Hackers.. *Nuking servers *Watching cars/tents/players vehicles *Polymorphing DayZ streamers on chickens then killing them just for fun *Spawning weapons, illegal vehicles, etc -Tons of issues with character movements, servers not saving data when supposed to do, and loooooooong etc. You will enjoy this till your mind says STOP. A game like this claims for dedication of the user who is playing it, you can spend so much hours on doing so many things and there are SO MANY FACTORS that will probably ruin all your work. This wont work, not if BI doesnt claims the mod and works on it as an expansion of Arma3. Of course this wont work on Arma2 since BI doesnt give a fuck anymore on this while they work on Arma3, and as you can immagine the mod devs cant work on an antihack system, they just can ban the hackers they spot. (Wich of course wont be enough) Just a tip to anyone that minds about getting Arma2 just for DayZ, if you liked youtube videos, go for it, you will have fun but assume this game is totally glitched/bugged/hacked and its not even near of being fixed, dont buy it if you wanna play this in a seriously way, just get it for having some random fun. -
Scripts in arma can do everything. In original Arma people write scripts which change the AI behaviours, attach markers, glue toghether UAZ and a cannon... Unlimited ways to control the game. So it's a matter of hackers imagination of what to do. So they wrote a script which marks every player on the server with a huge red dot, then they make it so that when they look at this dot they have a button "BOOOM" and the next moment scrip spawns some 5 artillery rounds to explode at your feet. When they get access to launch custom script, their power is not limited and I suggest you logout every time you see weird non-DayZ events happening, explosing cities, nukes, parachuting cows, tanks etc. It's a matter of hackers craziness and lawl-mood unitl he executes a script like this: {_x setDamage 1;} foreach allUnits; This script will loop through all network players, zombies, animals and vehicles and kill\destroy them. I'm not a cheater, I don't use such crap, but when you build custom missions scripts make it easier to implement many interesting things. Many old Arma fans know scripting even better and can tell you much more fantastic things yo ucan do with scripts.

How Many Times Have You.... (map hackers)?
Mr Muggles replied to Nirvana620's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm glad to hear the OP and his little gang of cheating shits got their stuff blown up by the server admin (probably was the admin lets face it) and all their duped items. That's the way to treat game hackers and the OP practically admitted as much lol ALL the vehicles, guns etc etc how the hell is that even possible without cheating!?! Exactly it, isn't you got what you deserved. Talk about stupid  -
-alarm trip mines creating a huge ammount of sound and scareing the shit out of random people also letting you know their position. (link to smoke gernade, bear horn, flair, glowsticks. """" NO EXPLOSIVES""""" -mirrior for signaling people faraway with a lens flair. -smoke signals from a xtra large fire -metal detector for finding crossbow bolts or misc crafting materials. -head mounted flashlight/torches for camping. -mega phone for extending voical communications further distances maybe have some on the vehicles.

Cannot be used near tents or vehicles as they would just blow up (troll bandits will place them at tents and vehicles you own to kill you and destroy your stuff)

How Many Times Have You.... (map hackers)?
EnermaX replied to Nirvana620's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Stopped reading there. In RL, my friend, there are not 20 vehicles. There are x billion. Also, not a landscape with 240km², but 49.430.000 km². -
Base Defenses ( Document included )
ZombieGrin replied to ZombieGrin's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The problem i have is that if you have vehicles, inexperienced idiots will come and drive them off and get them destroyed ( helicopters especially ) That means all that work you and your friends took fixxing it is now gone all because some kid thought it would be cool to try to do a backflip over cherno ( or something equally as stupid ) -
I did make other suggestions, but I don't think you want to listen to other peoples ideas. Not only is coming across automated turrets unrealistic but it will change the game from one about the experiences you get trying to survive, to one just about attacking/defending bases.Using barricaded houses for small loot, hiding items and being able to create some sort of compound using old vehicles etc as a defensive barrier are more realistic options. As for keeping vehicles safe, apart from some sort of compound (which even the one I suggested would be risky and might spoil the game) What about being able to remove an engine part so it won't start? So unless you find another you can't use it anyway, but if it was possible to keep vehicles completely safe for a player who fixed it when offline that might mean we end up with too many people in vehicles, unless respawning of parts is limited

Hoarders and Bandits Beware
Ivanuvo (DayZ) replied to rjack85's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why would bandits be the only ones with vehicles? You probably stole some poor sod's vehicle that he worked days for, and he never hurt a fly. -
"Don't get attached to your gear" is equivalent to EVE's mantra of "Don't fly what you can't afford to lose". Whatever you have in DayZ, you are going to lose sooner or later. Maybe it will be to zombies, to other players or simply to the bone-crushing tree. Your vehicles will be stolen and your tents raided. Those are facts of DayZ. Getting attached to it and expecting it to last forever is a recipe for dissapointment and rage. So expect to lose your stuff at any minute, and you will be pleasantly surprised most of the time.

I am just going to get right to the point. My and my team just lost a ton of stuff to a hacker tonight. When ever we logged out and logged back in a few hours later our primary, and secondary weapons where gone and our back pack was gone off our characters. Then when I got my stuff back I was turned into a cow and saw the hacker running off in my characters skin and with all my stuff. This hacker cleared the server. I have seen hacked choppers, hackers killing people when falling in the sky, and vehicles while they are driving with a satchel charge. I am really getting tired of this. Can we please try and get some server admin action here. We need name tags on this server so we can get these hackers names when this stuff happens. Any action would be appreciated. TopGun5005

the player skillz idea makes sense. I like that idea alot. Add the skill to start fire without fire starters. Skill to gut and clean animals. Maybe after being around the players for so long the skillz get added to your character since you learned from them. I like that idea alot. What do you mean by auto run? Fishing should be more of an east coast and south coast thing. What are the chances that those ponds would have any fish? The server survivor ranking would be cool as well but not sure if that would be an easy add since Arma doesnt have anything like that to my knowledge. I like the idea of customuzable skins and is something I hope Arma 3 will introduce. Fire works are a cool addition. I dont think such items exist but something like a flare that shoots up when you light the item. I know there are already flares and granade launcher flares but a simple item that you light and creates a flare in the sky would be cool. More bikes and more vehicles in general would be nice. As far as the caves and underground chambers, that could be something they add in arma 3 but Arma 2 doesnt support anything like it. Would be awesome though.

Banned from UK 25 for server hopping??
RChud replied to MiniGoold's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Well put yourself in our shoes. You all get picked off in the middle of the night at a base. That bit is totally possible and i would respect it as a very good organised attack. But when you move the gear and vehicles to the middle of nowhere about 6,000m away and get found within 10mins by the same people. You can honestly say that you would be ok with it? p.s. Shouldn't this be only about the people in question, and the Devs? I don't think it's needed for random people to come on and give their opinion, when they have seen and heard nothing about the event and only seen what is in this thread. -
"Everyone who disagrees with me is bad. The turret I'm suggesting is weak, useless, and easy to kill. Unless there is someone there to feed it (some one who could, say perhaps, defend a base.) I have the best ideas ever. Anyone who disagrees is a dummy." Fixed. P.S. Your welcome. P.S.S. I am not a bad "solo" player. I have and will continue to seek out friendly players to join my group and we will acquire vehicles to have fun with. I will not cry when those vehicles go missing due to a bug or some jerk off catching us off guard and taking it.

ANZ 5 Approximately 2:30pm Melbourne time (GMT +10) Myself and another member were at our group's camp when one of our vehicles was destroyed by what sounded like a satchel charge. Someone started talking over direct communication at us and continued to destroy vehicles one by one. We could hear footsteps but the player was completely invisible and could not be found. I can only assume they were spawning satchel charges directly on the cars. I logged out to lobby and took a screenshot of all the users online at the time if it helps.

Possible cheat or admin abuse?
Zeromentor replied to Dimedius (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If tags are on, then people can easily swip their weapons around until they find something or someone. Makes finding vehicles FAR easier, and makes finding players a bit easier and keeping track of their movements so much better it feels like a cheat. If tags were not turned on, then I don't know. Maybe a great clan has entered your server and is setting up camp? (Changing the server type without updating the title is not uncommon, same happens with patches and servers not stating they are NOT updated and the titles saying they are when they aren't) -
Possibility of private, player hosted servers?
ElRolle replied to Rocaset's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I think some people here are confused what you mean by private. Official servers connected to the HIVE and hosted by you at your home are not "private". These are normal servers, it doesn't matter if they are hosted in a datacenter or in your closet. Private servers are the ones NOT connected to the HIVE and have their own database. Are you asking if you can host your server at home, or are you asking if it is possible to run a private server without official database? You can host at home, as long as you meet all the *cough*retarded*cough* requirements made by the DayZ staff. You can host a private server that is not connected to the official HIVE and thus enforce your own rules, edit inventories, add vehicles, kick and ban anyone you like without fearing the horrible BLACKLISTING (Oh noez!). -
Possible cheat or admin abuse?
Dimedius (DayZ) replied to Dimedius (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Right, just wondering what powers an admin has over these servers or something about regular servers that makes it easier to track people (I see myself, buddies and vehicles on the map and just wondered if there was a way people were exploiting that). Just seemed kind of fishy to me you know? Been able to hold our own ground against people who had silenced weapons/NVG's (thanks again for the good loots, bandits!) and then on a day where the server changes its type and everything gone (yes I've already learned to not become too attached to thing lol) in a short time (from the time we died and ran back to camp about 30-45 mins)... All coincidental I'm sure, just really reaching out to the community to see if anyone out there has a lot of knowledge on this kind of thing happening before. Thanks for the info though :) Update: found more camp sites to resupply lost loots already :P -
The whole point of the game is to find yourself goals because the game won't give you any. Here's my story through my multiples characters : - I started my first characters just surviving, I headed up all the way north, had lots of luck finding loot on dead players. Being extremely careful (I'm into roleplay) I survived one full week around NW airfield (didnt know it was dangerous back then lol) set up a tent I started fill with car parts - Then my dream was to repair a car by myself. It took me some weeks, but it's so good to think about logistic and stuff (what do I carry ? do I take one extra food? or that wheel?) - Found and repaired a car (UAZ) after something like a 3 weeks of playing. Many failed attempts (died countless times because I wasn't stealthy enough). - After that I lost my car really fast. But I went to another server, and could get another UAZ running in 10 hours. Lost it again after 30 minutes, sniped near devils castle :( - Then I teamed up with a guy asking for blood packs in cherno, and started playing multiplayer. We used steam to chat and we got a GAZ running fairly quick, and had the best play session of all time, a whole night driving from town to town, scavenging stuff, trying to repair a wheel after an accident, I saved my buddy's life 2 times and he saved mine too, he found a bicycle. - Then we got our hands on a UAZ and a motorbike for him, we tried setting a camp. It lasted 1 night but some guy with a heli must have found our vehicles with the cheated radar stuff. - We found a camp in the north and got our hands on nvgs, fn fal nv, all sorts of good loot. We made another camp and got a white pick up and quad. Then raided NW airfield (found myself a svd camo) had the most intense session ever. Had to snipe one unlucky guy in the barracks. On our way back some guy was trying to steal the pickup, my friend died, the guy disconected after I shot him with SVD trhough the window. A wheel was broken on the pickup. When I came back with a wheel, the car was already stolen ( there were many corpses all around, a guy with a wheel... A clan war for our pickup, that is cool :)) - We then tried establishing a trading camp in kamenka, died countless time again, was fun too :) - after that I just came back to actual solo surviving, killing everyone on sight for safety reasons. I became a pretty good player, fast and aware of my environment, my weapon strentgh and weaknesses (CZ and AKM), and killed many players who should have been more careful. But every people I took down was a necessity. I now use direct chat a lot, trying to communicate, but people are just too paranoid and I HAVE to kill them, unfortunately. Hope it will give you clues on how to live your ingame lives. Edit : We also stumbled on some kind of peaceful beatnick comunity in the woods, they were driving around with a van and 2 buses and only carried lesser grade weapons, and never shot people. I stumbled on their camp by accident, and at the same time 2 guys on motorcycle came from nowhere, they were bandits trying to steal the camp. I took them down with my akm. I was thanked by the guys of the camp after I told the story on side channel. They helped me get my quad flipped on its wheels again, and gave me antibiotics. Was cool.

Don't reward or discourage anything. Players decisions are players decisions. I think that sniper would have been having the time of his life on that hill, picking off nooblets. Hell i remember running up to a tent and getting shot at once, lucky he was a horrible shot. However i can agree that the scoreboard could show a LOT more things then it currently does, even if it just be for records sake. It wouldn't hurt anything if you could know: How many times you have eaten/drunk How many KM's you have ran How many Blood Transfusions/Morphine/Bandages you have used on other players How many vehicles repaired Distance flown/driven/floated(?) Distance you have swam Time survived Bullets fired All those possibilities and so much more. And if you keep a form of suspense while your playing, dont show these until you die, in a final counter, similar to when you finish a campaign on any of the L4D's. I think that would be a good addition, just the ability to see how many times you did infact shoot your gun to kill 1 zombie and 10 players.

Actually i myself know i enjoy living in the DayZ world with minimal violence. This game has an appeal to me that is very realistic. I can go out in the woods, have a little camp with a fireplace, maybe a small vehicle or something i found, and a tent for storage. ill come on for an hour or 2 every day, go hunt some animals to refill my food supplies, fill up my canteens, and maybe even raid a nearby town. On days where my friends can come on with me, we will make a raid to one of the air fields in search of better weapons, ammunition, and vehicles. Its amazing how much fun this game can be, when all im doing is running through forests, killing animals, and making planned, meaningful raids into town, like i was actually surviving. Or am i just being a "hermit" as you described it? If so, thanks to DayZ for allowing player-based decisions.

How Many Times Have You.... (map hackers)?
EnermaX replied to Nirvana620's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Taking all the stuff for your own, when there is limited. Hm. Major part of your vehicles rusty in ur camp, noone uses it. You eliminate the possibility to have a encounter with another team with vehicles or to find one. It makes the whole game boring. Sadly nearly everone thinks he must gather all vehicles from the server... -
What is considered out of bounds?
Zeromentor replied to NeedleHammer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I generally say the darker grey lines are the out of bounds, or where the numbers are (top, and side). Depending on which map you use (ingame or out) and how far you've zoomed in. Vehicles and tents outside the borders are deleted when the server is reset. Or atleast, that is what is suppose to happen. -
How Many Times Have You.... (map hackers)?
Nirvana620 replied to Nirvana620's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oh don't worry, they were incredibly far apart, every single item from every single tent was looted, vehicles were all blown up (lots of ammo/grenades??) -
How Many Times Have You.... (map hackers)?
Fraxx replied to Nirvana620's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
well actually this never happened to me because i never made a camp but finding vehicles in the woods isnt that hard if you got a L85A2 AWS :P so maybe place the vehicles far away from the camp
