  1. I would like to point out, I've been playing Arma2 since release. Unfortuately due to the game engine, cars and vehicles can blow up quite easily.

    Vehicle Towing and Extraction

One good truck? What percentage of players have access to one good truck? Not only that but ensuring the vehicle has wheels to be towed, having to stop more times for fuel and having to find the other vehicles in the first place doesn't seem too easy to me or have I missed something? However, I do agree that it means almost any vehicle can be towed away whether or not they repair it. But, as with everything, they still run the risk of having the vehicles nicked from their secret lair and seeing as most cars can be driven without engine repairs (and just have the wheels) I think that the increase in hoarding would be marginal really.

How do you get to the NW Airfield?

Walking is how most people get there, since all the vehicles are hidden in bushes and your chances of finding them are slim. Dayz in its current state is essentially a hiking simulator with zombies, best get used to it. It generally takes a few hours for me to get to the NW airfield because I'll come from the SW, loot the towns, check the gulleys to the West, and generally mess about. You should loot the south airfield at Balota, all of the fun and none of the orienteering..

    Vehicle Towing and Extraction

If towing was implemented it would just make it easier for people to hoard vehicles. One good truck and one can tow all the vehicles to their secret lair in the forest, regardless of whether or not they put the time into scavenging for repair materials. The fuel costs would also be a moot point as jerry cans can be refueled at gas stations an infinite number of times.

    map question

Yes - the point is that you have a reference to look at on the side. The benefit of using the online map on a 2nd monitor is that you can filter some of the icons out. If you're new to the game, I would use dayzdb.com/map and remove all 4 types of Low Yield buildings (Residential, Industrial, Farm, and Military). Next, remove Vehicles. That set-up right there is a solid, print-able map. If you are printing in Black and White... and have some colored pencils laying around (or highlighters), then try to mark all ponds (blue) and the trees (green) around the cities/airfields. You should also color the High and Medium yield buildings according to their category (in the first paragraph). If you want to mark some important bits on your map... 1. I'd put a big red circle around the Northwest Airfield, Vybor, and Stary Sobor. You'll find bandits all over Chernarus, but in these three areas, you'll find the best equipped ones. Also, players very rarely come to these areas alone, so if you see another player, assume that he's got friends. Bottom line: stay away until you're ready. The next big PvP areas to note are the Northeast airfields and Berezino (Southside - near the Hospital/Supermarket) and Cherno/Elektro (obviously). Also, I've seen Polana pretty active recently, my squad got in two firefights there today. 2. Don't use the Dayzdb.com/map for vehicle spawns. Instead, use this http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Vehicles#Spawn_Locations_of_Vehicles and mark whatever you want. To be honest, I wouldn't spend a lot of time looking for vehicles. Assume that organized squads already have most of them, and if you come across one randomly, then cheers! 3. Like I said before, water. Mark water. When you're living in the North (off the coast) you only need 4 items to survive forever without having to go into town. Hatchet (to kill animals and cut trees down), Hunting Knife (to gut the animal and collect raw meat), Matches (to use the wood to make a fireplace which keeps you warm and cooks meat), and a Water Bottle. If you have the water marked properly on your map, make sure you are always within a short walk of another pond or worst-case-scenario, a water pump on the edge of town. 4. In the future, when you're a weathered survivor with a sniper rifle strapped to your back, you need to mark your favorite sniper locations. These are areas that are elevated, hard to attack, and easy to escape from (all obviously after you have a good field of view of your sector). Two examples of sniper positions are the forested hill to the Northwest of Vybor and the Northern ridge overlooking Polana. I think that right there will give you a relatively clean map, with loads of information that will get you through the end of the world.

    Most Creative Camp Sites

    1. Items spawn regardless of being hoarded 2. Usually yes, in case they die or someone new joins the crew and needs gear 3. Not unless someone feels they've nothing better to do 4. All items in tents and vehicles are saved if you save the tent/vehicle prio to restart 5. Zeds only spawn on buildings and not tents/cars

    Vehicles

Agreed. If they where to lose there vehicles over a certain time would be horrible, just think if you got one and you went off for a day and lost it? I agree with tracking, its all about luck and finding there base. I know it sucks but it can prove rewarding. Think of all the stashed goodies there! The only realistic way I can think of making it more balanced would be a heat sensor from a satellite, (Perhaps a GPS use only used when its in orbit). Other than that, maybe team up with some people and find their camps and all the best.

All (8) of our vehicles gone. How?

Three vehicles for a small group isn't that bad. There's a line, though. Does a group of three need 5 vehicles? 7 vehicles? 10 vehicles? It becomes absurd. I didn't see car a for my first month of play time. This was of course during the out of bounds shenanigens, but my point still stands.

    admins are abuseing

I had no idea admins had this amount of access to contents of player inventories. Not sure how I feel about that. I'd much rather something like BE keep an eye on my current gear than an actual person who may (or may not) misuse that information. Massios, could you please elaborate? Are you able to check a players current inventory at any time? (I'm not planning to get bitchy about it, this is just news to me and wanted a better understanding on the info you (as an admin) can access about a players gear. Does this extend to tents / vehicles as well?
  10. If I wasnt rolling in a large group already, i'd give you guys some AS-50 or M107 support. Our next goal is to get a convoy going with our vehicles.
  11. edonovan

War on banditry!!! Join the fight!!!

I already do this. Except I just take what I need, flatten the tents, and blow up the vehicles. I don't want to risk leaving anything on the coast for a bandit to easily find. I have also adopted a shoot-on-sight policy for armed individuals. If you have a hatchet armed, I may make an exception and let you go.

All (8) of our vehicles gone. How?

That'll teach you for having a car showroom. Honestly, hacking sucks but I find it hard to sympathise with someone who has hoarded all these vehicles.
  13. Just found 7 vehicles outside the map. Took me about 3 hours to get em all to my base, but damn, dat guy will be mad.

All (8) of our vehicles gone. How?

This. Same deal with us. 6 vehicles, all miles and miles apart in various remote locations, 10 tents, all gone within hours. Nobody is that lucky or unlucky. Nobody. If you do a bit of google research, you will find that the Arma II engine does most of the work for the hackers. They simply turn on functions already existing in the game. Someone in another thread linked this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQSf3-cYWUo There are hackers in all games, but the problem with Arma II is that there are public downloadable .exe programs b/c BI is severely inadequate.

All (8) of our vehicles gone. How?

They are not YOUR vehicles. Glad you lost them.
  16. the reason people shoot on sight is because they dont need each other whatsoever and the risk of the other player shooting you first is always there. thats why you end up shooting them and not worrying about them cause they are of no use to you. what if you could start off with 1 special skill that you choose at the spawning. These skills would allow you to do things that others without the skills cannot do. These skills could be taught to other players by interacting with them thus sharing knowledge. Maybe an action you use on a player and over time of being around them the skill would be learned from being around that other player. Some of these skills could be: Starting a fire (without matches) Gutting and cleaning an animal Mechanics (ability to repair cars and vehicles) Water Purifying (The ability to fill water bottles with water) Melee fighting (the ability to kill zombies with one strike from a melee weapon) Medic (The ability to perform blood transfusions) Sneak (The ability to aggravate zombies less frequently) Anyways. Im not saying that these have to be the skills or that other skills wouldnt be welcome (these are just examples). All I am saying is that it would be a really good reason to promote player interaction when you really need each other to help make things easier for each other. This is just an idea and I dont think its perfect. It's the concept I am trying to promote. Maybe the mechanic to teach a player your skill would be an action you select that enables the teaching and then performing the actual action. For example: If I meet a player and then click on an action on his character called "Teach Fire Starting" it allows the other player to acquire that "Fire Starting" if they are around me when I start a fire.

All (8) of our vehicles gone. How?

To the one that say it's stupid to keep so many vehicles: With my very small group of people, we have 3 vehicles. One of them found and repaired, one that was picked close to a tent, and the last one stolen after shooting the pilot. We hid them well. For the three of those, we made efforts. Repairs, time searched, fighting. We use them frequently. We maintain them as to use them requires fuel. A lot of fuel as to hide them, we have to go far through offroad. They could be stolen any time. When we are logged off, or simply when we're moving them around. People could follow us and find our hiding places thanks to the motor sounds. Now, dare say we don't diserve to use them and should share for the common good, simply because you are annoyed that, as you never stay in the same server, you can't spot the habbits of its inhabitants. And if you do have the same serve all of the time, search better.

All (8) of our vehicles gone. How?

In that second video, when you're on the hill looking at that URAL and other vehicles. Is that before you stole it? Or afterwards. Because if it's afterwards, then you're either using hacked equipment that belonged to someone prior to you, or you were the group that actually scripted it into the game. No gun in the game uses the .338 Lapau Magnum cartridge. The L115 uses it but it's not in DayZ. Let's hope you just stole the vehicle with it already "onboard" so to speak, and even so.. you should of deleted it by now hopefully. Even though you can't be banned for finding hacked equipment, so says Rocket, if you have ethics, you'd of deleted it hopefully,

All (8) of our vehicles gone. How?

I'm another person who finds vehicle hoarding laughable. I guess I just don't see the need for 8 vehicles unless you're preventing anyone else on the server from ever having one. I mean, I have 3 or 4 now in our camp, but I have no reason to find any more unless someone steals them. I'm not going to knock you or anyone for having that many, it's just personal opinion.

    Watching a Helicopter Crash

If you go place a chopper in the editor, along with a jeep hidden in a forest (say, at someone's secret campsite), then the chopper can pick up the jeep using it's radar fairly easily... which means that once you find a fuelled chopper, your friends can steal all the other vehicles on the server.

These kids giving people crap for "hoarding" vehicles are a slight bit on the troll side.

    Need a Rangefinder!

anyone else willing to trade for some Rangefinders? I guess they can only be found in the barracks of NW airfield from what i've heard, I have yet to see any in game and I've come accross tons of stuff. Also does anyone know if you drop your binoculars to pick up or does it just automatically override them? I don't mind finding another pair obv but don't want to lose the Rangefinders or something stupid if I equip, this game is known for eating items. I have access to the following and would be willing to trade: NVG GPS Entrenching Tool (Don't have any sandbags tho) M249 AS50 DMR M107 M24 M4A1 CCO SD FN FAL ANPV S4 L85A2 AWS M9SD List seems crazy I know but I play with a group so it's a collective, vehicles help that too. It's possible I may be able to spare a clip or two for said guns, but check with me first please. Let me know if interested in a trade, I can be trusted, hope you can too! EDIT: also just remembered I desperately need a ghilie suit too, mine got lost with update. I would trade any of said items above for a ghillie suit as well. Thanks in advance
  23. Hey guys, Just looking for a group/clan of bandits that mostly play on west coast servers. I got a full kit +DMZ. Hit me up on here and let me know if any of you have an extra spot open... not looking for anything too serious or strict. Just fun, loot, vehicles and what-not. it's getting shifty running around by myself. You can get me on skype at Jonnykling1985.

    Finding Vehicles

My group and I find vehicles on a daily basis. We also lose vehicles every other day. Vehicles exchange hands alot more frequently than you think.
  25. Vehicles both still there. I'd say it's pretty much confirmed that vehicle cleanup isn't working.
