What is the best/fastest way to find a vehicle?
EnermaX replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
http://bit.ly/MfrxYD However, many vehicles are "collected" by douchebags and hidden outside of the map, so you probably won't see many. -
Will never pick up a grenade again

I hate em too. One time I had someone hostage, dropped a grenade at their feet and it didn't kill them. I find it's only useful for destroying stationary vehicles. -
What is the best/fastest way to find a vehicle?
Hakultair replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
If you're on a new server it's by just walking around (not near the coasts) and keeping your eyes open. But on servers that have been there for more then 2 weeks I'd suggest scouting the edges of the map for other peoples vehicles. -
Sorry but I'm bringing vehicles into this discussion. I've been a lucky dude. I've encountered a ton of vehicles. I've been the owner of a stolen bus. I like submachine guns. I prefer an MP5(SD) over any sniper rifle in the game. I give almost all the weapons I fins to my teammates. So if I die I know I can find that gun pretty easy in NW and be on my way. OK back to vehicles. I found a broken ATV and nursed that SOB to life. I found a heli crash right after I got it working. Now, its flipped on the dock. I would have wiggled it back over but it ran out of gas. I've waited before 4 - 5 server resets to get it flipped back over. Point of the story is I'm obsessed with getting my 90kph vehicle back to working. I only got to use it for an hour tops. Its been about 2 days that I've been watching it while its flipped. I'm not attached to my gear.. just my ATV. Its a gateway drug. It'll take me to better things.

This server should be avoided. Tents and saved vehicles disappear one day and reappear the next. Characters often aren't saved even after several hours of play. I played several hours yesterday and found two military offroad vehicles. After driving them around for an hour me and my friend stashed them in the woods. Today they are gone as well as 4 tents at 4 locations. Also when I spawned into the game I was at the Northwest Airbase in pitch dark and was shot before I could find my way out (lost some prime gear too). The server resets every 160 minutes and whether your tents or vehicles will reappear when it restarts is anyone's guess. Oh yes, and there is hacking. Lots of it. My friends are abandoning this server and as soon as I can find a new server that works and doesn't disappear on me ( I mean US 509 Atlanta here) I'll move my tents over (if they ever reappear again).

Gamebreaker.tv - Jul 2012 - Interview with Rocket

-Old engine wich will remain at least till 2013 (Arma3), think about how much time they are spending to fix some basic bugs... now think about how much time they will spend to transfer the whole mod into a new game. Im not saying they are doing a bad work, im saying they are too few devs for a big size project like this. -Hackers.. *Nuking servers *Watching cars/tents/players vehicles *Polymorphing DayZ streamers on chickens then killing them just for fun *Spawning weapons, illegal vehicles, etc -Tons of issues with character movements, servers not saving data when supposed to do, and loooooooong etc. You will enjoy this till your mind says STOP. A game like this claims for dedication of the user who is playing it, you can spend so much hours on doing so many things and there are SO MANY FACTORS that will probably ruin all your work. This wont work, not if BI doesnt claims the mod and works on it as an expansion of Arma3. Of course this wont work on Arma2 since BI doesnt give a fuck anymore on this while they work on Arma3, and as you can immagine the mod devs cant work on an antihack system, they just can ban the hackers they spot. (Wich of course wont be enough) Just a tip to anyone that minds about getting Arma2 just for DayZ, if you liked youtube videos, go for it, you will have fun but assume this game is totally glitched/bugged/hacked and its not even near of being fixed, dont buy it if you wanna play this in a seriously way, just get it for having some random fun. -
Journals/Notes/ Writing pages and leaving through the map.
n4ndoz posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Hey guys. I don't have any clue on how I should name my idead, but here it goes: (mechanics explained below) Briefing: The main idea is to implement a system in wich players can loot blank pages of paper, write on it and stick it to a wall, or just leave it through the map. I know that at the first look it looks like a poor idea. But it isn't. You must find blank pages and a pen, or pencil, or even a dead player's blood(from it's corpse of course). And you simply write on it and do wtv you want with it. You can murder a player and leave your mark on it. You can advise the players that certain areas are dangerous. Or you can put bounts on bandits through out the map. Or try to advise that you are loot a area and you will shoot everyone in sight. Or you can simply leave you story to the fellow survivors around chernarus. Mechanics: Items Needed: 1x Blank Page(per Note/Journal) 1x Pen Blood from Corpse(ok, it would be easy if you are a psycho to simply put your finger into a corpses wound and take some blood to write lol); How does it work: 1- With all the items in your inventory you right-click at the page and select Write here. 2- A small text box appears(limited to 200 chars.), and you write wtv you want. 3- Finished writing, click the "Done" buttom, and at the same slot that was the Blank Page, there will be your "Note". 4- You target a valid surface(Building's walls, a player's corpses, vehicles), slide your scroll and look for the option "Stick Note here"; 5- Some one finds it, scrolls over it and 2 options pop-up: Read , Remove from wall. Pros: - If you are a friendly player you can loot a area and let other friendlies that you are looting there, or you just passed over there. - You can let ppl know if there is a bandit on the server, without having to Alt-Tab to the forums.(ok, the Notes won't be all over the map, but whoever is nearby will have a probability to read it and be aware); - If you wan't to group with strangers, mark a meeting, try to recruit through it.(ok, there wil always be betrayers, trolls, bandits, but in a real situation I would prefer the risk of it than trying the direct contact)(Note: even if a camper is trying to troll you, you can alwasy risk and try the contact) - Many more... Cons: - People will surely try to spam internet shit(solution: a character limit and restriction(only latters and a few other special chars are permitted)); - Liars; - Trollers, scammers, etc; - A lot of notes on the server, screwing it's performance(solution: the notes aren't "saved" so, with each server restart they are all gone)(solution2: the Blank Pages are stored at ammo and food slots, so player won't take a lot of it and are single stacked) Why did I had this idea?: I'm a friendly player, and all of you know that as for now, most attempts of direct comunication are almost a suicidal action. This way, you could simply put your note there and anyone who got balls enough, or are desperate to find a group would come a long. Or even, as I said, in a real situation, I would advise players that Im in the surrounding areas so, this way or they have big balls to fight me, or they keep out from my sight. Hope you like my idea. And if any of you have some suggestions, please post it here! p.s.: sorry for any grammar mistakes, ensligh is not my language. =) -
Scripts in arma can do everything. In original Arma people write scripts which change the AI behaviours, attach markers, glue toghether UAZ and a cannon... Unlimited ways to control the game. So it's a matter of hackers imagination of what to do. So they wrote a script which marks every player on the server with a huge red dot, then they make it so that when they look at this dot they have a button "BOOOM" and the next moment scrip spawns some 5 artillery rounds to explode at your feet. When they get access to launch custom script, their power is not limited and I suggest you logout every time you see weird non-DayZ events happening, explosing cities, nukes, parachuting cows, tanks etc. It's a matter of hackers craziness and lawl-mood unitl he executes a script like this: {_x setDamage 1;} foreach allUnits; This script will loop through all network players, zombies, animals and vehicles and kill\destroy them. I'm not a cheater, I don't use such crap, but when you build custom missions scripts make it easier to implement many interesting things. Many old Arma fans know scripting even better and can tell you much more fantastic things yo ucan do with scripts.

How Many Times Have You.... (map hackers)?
Mr Muggles replied to Nirvana620's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm glad to hear the OP and his little gang of cheating shits got their stuff blown up by the server admin (probably was the admin lets face it) and all their duped items. That's the way to treat game hackers and the OP practically admitted as much lol ALL the vehicles, guns etc etc how the hell is that even possible without cheating!?! Exactly it, isn't you got what you deserved. Talk about stupid  -
-alarm trip mines creating a huge ammount of sound and scareing the shit out of random people also letting you know their position. (link to smoke gernade, bear horn, flair, glowsticks. """" NO EXPLOSIVES""""" -mirrior for signaling people faraway with a lens flair. -smoke signals from a xtra large fire -metal detector for finding crossbow bolts or misc crafting materials. -head mounted flashlight/torches for camping. -mega phone for extending voical communications further distances maybe have some on the vehicles.
-
I act alone during night. I blow up every single vehicles parked in forest that catches my sight. I work for newbs who search their repairable vehicles on spawning location. I am Robin Hood.
-
Cannot be used near tents or vehicles as they would just blow up (troll bandits will place them at tents and vehicles you own to kill you and destroy your stuff)

Base Defenses ( Document included )
ZombieGrin replied to ZombieGrin's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The problem i have is that if you have vehicles, inexperienced idiots will come and drive them off and get them destroyed ( helicopters especially ) That means all that work you and your friends took fixxing it is now gone all because some kid thought it would be cool to try to do a backflip over cherno ( or something equally as stupid ) -
The Pirates of Chernarus This is taken from our spotlight with WeTheGamerz: http://www.wethegame...s-of-chernarus/ First of all what are you trying to achieve with TPOC? We started off as a group of 4, playing Day-Z from one of the earliest Alpha patches. After advertising on the Day-Z forum with some images of what we have been getting up to on our chosen home server, people came from all over. We have now grown to over 100 active forum members with around 15-30 actively online each night. Not looking to ‘achieve’ anything in particular apart from have fun and provide a great environment for all players to enjoy. What’s your opinion on the current state of the game? Day-Z has come along way from when we started playing around 6 weeks ago! In that short period of time its had such HUGE support from the players, with the sales of Arma II and suggestions for the mod, which I think has given Rocket and his team the drive to make this a massive success. Currently there’s alot to improve on, we daily come across many bugs, lag, server downtime etc but theres something about this game that keeps you coming back for more! With new stuff being added to Day-Z what would you like to see added? More clan support for example? Clan support would be amazing, we have all watched countless interviews and videos and some of the upcoming ‘ideas’ sound fantastic. The Day-Z team seem to understand that this game needs some sort of team orientated features to continue its success. We already have great fun playing as a team, sometimes even around 20 men in 1 group but every so often a friendly member may take a hit, so with the introduction to clan features, we may avoid having to overdose our guys on morphine! On your site banner there is a pick-up truck full of people, can you tell us the story behind that? Ha! When we first started renting our server, alot of the guys were keen to get a few vehicles, that pickup being one of them! We spent ages fixing it up, many trips to different towns, back and forth! Eventually we got it running and teared up the map! We decided to head down the coast to see if we could spot any players, this is where we saw many a man being chased by zombies. We would shout to them to get in the truck, we are here to save them!!!! We would interrogate them, find out where they are from, what they plan on doing etc and even some joined the clan! Others on the other hand, got scared and jumped!!! That’s how we came up with the slogan, we steal from the rich and give lifts to the poor! (Yes we do kill people up north, poor people being the unarmed!!) With Day-Z involving a lot of trust have you had any bad experiences with other members or players? No doubt like every other person who has played Day-Z, we have had our fair share of bad experiences. We often let our guard down to ‘harmless unarmed players’ when we first started. We have had times were we saved people from zombies and other players, let them into our group to find out they were here to steal and kill us! Other times we gave out our Teamspeak to people we had picked up and they would be nice on teamspeak, but when we let our guard down, they would kill and steal the trucks! Admittedly, funny as hell now, but not at the time after you have put hours of work into something to have it taken away in seconds. We have hopefully tightened up our recruitment system and how we treat other player Has Day-Z taught you anything about surviving in a zombie apocalypse? Find yourself a Makarov and an alice pack load of beanz! Why should people join TPOC instead of maybe forming a small group or going it alone? TPOC has people from all over the world! EU, US, Australia, its become more of a community than a clan. We give all our clan members the ability to create sub-channels in our teamspeak, we use this to show our current locations and set up squads! 90% of the time someone from the community is just around the corner and in 5-10mins your allied with a friendly. We do take the game seriously, but we of course we like to have fun!! We go out on raids in formations and squads, we also have 20 man dance off’s, try to cook meat with satchel charges and watch people fight in the Ring of Pirates, with crowbars – we love a crowbar deathmatch! Do you feel basing the clan around Day-Z offers an experience other clans may not? Not really, we already play other games together and have plans to play some of the larger upcoming games as a clan! Currently the name is based around Day-Z as that’s of course where it all started, but with the recent influx of players and donations we can see this like-minded group of people sticking together and going far! Day-Z although is a unique game, you need patience, fast reactions and the ability to play as a team. Day-Z really tests peoples ability to play together, as a team you experience many ups and downs and fingers crossed if we move onto other games Day-Z will make us one of the strongest clans around… If you do decide to venture into other games would you need to re-brand the clan? I guess we would. I assume we would keep the ‘Pirate’ theme as its working well so far… yarrr!!! haha!! We are introducing some hierarchy and honorary members for donators etc. Everything we’ve done so far, we try to do as a team, if we were to re-brand that would be a decision by majority. Forum (where to apply to join!): www.tpoc.co.uk Join our public TS3 (We have a members and public area, so come say hey!): ts.tpoc.co.uk We also currently run a 70 man server: DayZ - LU1 (Veteran|3D:ON|CH:OFF) dayzmod.com - [-3 UTC] The Pirates of Chernarus! tpoc.co.uk

I did make other suggestions, but I don't think you want to listen to other peoples ideas. Not only is coming across automated turrets unrealistic but it will change the game from one about the experiences you get trying to survive, to one just about attacking/defending bases.Using barricaded houses for small loot, hiding items and being able to create some sort of compound using old vehicles etc as a defensive barrier are more realistic options. As for keeping vehicles safe, apart from some sort of compound (which even the one I suggested would be risky and might spoil the game) What about being able to remove an engine part so it won't start? So unless you find another you can't use it anyway, but if it was possible to keep vehicles completely safe for a player who fixed it when offline that might mean we end up with too many people in vehicles, unless respawning of parts is limited

this just happened tonight (06/17/12) on US217 (DALLAS) I reported them and showed this video to the server admin, but i really think these guys deserve a full ban from dayz... spawning gear, vehicles, hacked weapons, teleporting. its all here! -
Hoarders and Bandits Beware
Ivanuvo (DayZ) replied to rjack85's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why would bandits be the only ones with vehicles? You probably stole some poor sod's vehicle that he worked days for, and he never hurt a fly. -
"Don't get attached to your gear" is equivalent to EVE's mantra of "Don't fly what you can't afford to lose". Whatever you have in DayZ, you are going to lose sooner or later. Maybe it will be to zombies, to other players or simply to the bone-crushing tree. Your vehicles will be stolen and your tents raided. Those are facts of DayZ. Getting attached to it and expecting it to last forever is a recipe for dissapointment and rage. So expect to lose your stuff at any minute, and you will be pleasantly surprised most of the time.

the player skillz idea makes sense. I like that idea alot. Add the skill to start fire without fire starters. Skill to gut and clean animals. Maybe after being around the players for so long the skillz get added to your character since you learned from them. I like that idea alot. What do you mean by auto run? Fishing should be more of an east coast and south coast thing. What are the chances that those ponds would have any fish? The server survivor ranking would be cool as well but not sure if that would be an easy add since Arma doesnt have anything like that to my knowledge. I like the idea of customuzable skins and is something I hope Arma 3 will introduce. Fire works are a cool addition. I dont think such items exist but something like a flare that shoots up when you light the item. I know there are already flares and granade launcher flares but a simple item that you light and creates a flare in the sky would be cool. More bikes and more vehicles in general would be nice. As far as the caves and underground chambers, that could be something they add in arma 3 but Arma 2 doesnt support anything like it. Would be awesome though.

Banned from UK 25 for server hopping??
RChud replied to MiniGoold's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Well put yourself in our shoes. You all get picked off in the middle of the night at a base. That bit is totally possible and i would respect it as a very good organised attack. But when you move the gear and vehicles to the middle of nowhere about 6,000m away and get found within 10mins by the same people. You can honestly say that you would be ok with it? p.s. Shouldn't this be only about the people in question, and the Devs? I don't think it's needed for random people to come on and give their opinion, when they have seen and heard nothing about the event and only seen what is in this thread. -
Well first it's cars 1) the ability to armor vehicles, engines increase with all its consequences: weight, speed, lumbodynia, etc. 2) the ability to shoot from the car body ... it is logical to Land Rover or Zile at all necessary and reasonable in principle ... 3) bend down when you sit in the car (if they realism, the realism in everything!) 4)removing clothes from the corpses of . 5) The body armor ... of course with different types of armor and different weights 6) The system of realistic weight transfer (there is also no need to explain) 7) radio 8) the ability to collaborate in groups, make a notation on the gear: stripes, bands that anything at all ... 9) well, and developing the theme of the building to make an for example two entrances to the roof, and the other on the street. when you come out of the game you put the bolt on the door!) To enter into the premises, an outsider to use C4 to destroy the door. (realism + common sense) 10) If we talk about the crossbows you need to refine the system of transport bolts for it, for example a quiver of 10 pieces in one slot of inventory, the optics and the ability to deliver would not be superfluous.

"Everyone who disagrees with me is bad. The turret I'm suggesting is weak, useless, and easy to kill. Unless there is someone there to feed it (some one who could, say perhaps, defend a base.) I have the best ideas ever. Anyone who disagrees is a dummy." Fixed. P.S. Your welcome. P.S.S. I am not a bad "solo" player. I have and will continue to seek out friendly players to join my group and we will acquire vehicles to have fun with. I will not cry when those vehicles go missing due to a bug or some jerk off catching us off guard and taking it.

Possible cheat or admin abuse?
Zeromentor replied to Dimedius (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If tags are on, then people can easily swip their weapons around until they find something or someone. Makes finding vehicles FAR easier, and makes finding players a bit easier and keeping track of their movements so much better it feels like a cheat. If tags were not turned on, then I don't know. Maybe a great clan has entered your server and is setting up camp? (Changing the server type without updating the title is not uncommon, same happens with patches and servers not stating they are NOT updated and the titles saying they are when they aren't) -
First of all, I don't fully understand the "don't get attached to your gear" argument/the default reply of some people. I am aware this is alpha and bugs run rampant, but if look past all that, you will see that the gear attachment is similar to what happens in MMOs - people become attached to their characters. So why do we become attached to our gear? For the most part getting high tier gear and weapons requires quite a substantial effort -.unless you manage to find a camp/kill a geared person. Another thing is how high tier weapons give you a much higher survival chance vs zombies & players - things such as silencers and scoped rifles. Lastly, gear is what motivates people to go North - military loot, crashed heli sites, barracks... If there was no loot there would be no point in exploring unless it's for the sake of exploring - lets leave the vehicles out of this discussion please.
