  1. Yeah there is a hacker on this server, I had a tent packed to the brim with stuff in the most remote location and now it's all gone but bandages. I had a FN FAL Night Scope version, a M24, a MP5SD6, and ammo for all, all gone >.< And as I understand it hackers have some kind of ability to spot all tents and vehicles, that would explain it. Plus a dude wandering through would of probably just took the FAL and a couple mags. Instead it was all cleaned out. Like 30 Mags, and 3 guns. Which no one can carry. He probably used a spawned vehicle like an Apache, landed it, looted the tent and put the items in the vehicle.

    Car Battery?

It seems kind of strange to me that all of the vehicles you find in a post apocalyptic world would have fuel tank/engine problems/missing wheels, but would all have fully charged batteries? Car battery would be good as an extra item you need to get any vehicle running. Maybe add jumper cables too to allow other running vehicles to charge a battery?

    Worst Game Experience ever

Well there is a form of fatigue, obviously not like in real life, but after running, even crouch running or walking will increase the width of the cross-hairs, making it harder to shoot without aiming in, also even aiming in I've noticed if you are breathing heavily the gun "jumps" very slightly in a random direction, making it harder to go into a gunfight after moving. The best way to notice this is to run for a minute or so, then pull out your binoculars straight away, you will see how erratically it moves, it's because you are out of breath. Personally, as many "reality factors" as there are in the game, I'm glad for the unlimited run, purely because it takes long enough getting round the map without a vehicle as it is, and vehicles are few and far between. (not to mention having to repair them when you find one). I mean, would you really want to walk around a 225 square km map? I certainly don't, lol. On your other point I agree, Zed's have one thing on their mind, brains. so when they see some brains, they are going after them. And since there mind is occupied by only one thing, the chances of them getting bored and deciding to leave you alone are somewhat slim to f*** all. my only problem with them is when they glitch hit you, which is pretty depressing, especially when they knock you unconscious because of it.
  4. Me and a couple of friends have been playing for about 3 weeks now and haven't seen a vehicle yet. We heard one once but never managed to find out where from. I don't think the map should be littered with vehicles but i still think there should be more of them, maybe make them appear in a less repaired state, so that its still a challenge to get one working.
  5. I found four vehicles last night but prior to that i had only found one motorbike in 2 months of play.

    Vehicle Spawns

How about this: Make one or two factories respawn an incomplete car chassis inside them, when approached by any player. The chassis can be built into a complete vehicle with something like: 4 wheels 6 windshields 4 engine parts 10 scrap metal [*]The vehicle will despawn or degrade after 24 hours if not "maintained" or "updated" by any player [*]Maybe make the factory (or workshop) operate using a generator that would have to be refueled with jerry cans This way, you could produce a vehicle through considerable effort, definitely not super-easy. If you don't use it, you lose it. If you don't want others to use vehicles, you can prevent them by occupying the factory. That would also make the factory a choke point and a PvP attraction. Also, the car-haters could arrange ambushes by the roads. I think one of the best parts of the ArmA framework is the use of vehicles, and right now I think DayZ misses out on a lot of that. I agree it's not a good idea to have absolutely everybody driving around in tanks or even cars, but how about at least giving everybody a chance to try out some rides, instead of just the first few who find them?
  7. i've been playing for several months now and have only ever ran into 2 vehicles, both in complete random places but i recorded both which was nice yes they are very exciting moments as you can tell...
  8. I found 2 atvs and a tractor parked at different places in the woods as I ran all the way from the coast to the NW Airfield yesterday. Finding vehicles stashed in the woods is easier than finding them freshly spawned. Plus, you get the added bonus of not having to repair them first.
  9. i just found 3 vehicles..
  10. Find a server that updates fairly frequently and you'll be more likely to find vehicles as well as heli crashes. Or just do like my group and cruise the north looking for camps to steal them from :P
  11. million others servers to play on... or did you have loads of tents there and vehicles etc?
  12. So thats where all the vehicles went.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.4

That's no excuse, english is not my native language either. You would do a lot better if you could be bothered to spell out your words. 'U' and 'UR' is just annoying. By the way, people can't hoard vehicles off the map anymore, it was fixed a good while ago.
  14. @solo_888 Vehicles not spawning is probably due to a Hive issue i know that yesterday any servers with instance id's of 6000 and higher were not spawning vehicles because of some Hive maintenance. Sometimes at server boot vehicles are not spawned in and a server reboot will fix that 9/10 times. I suggest you come on the Vilayer TS server and talk to Vilayer there to figure out what the deal is (ts3.vilayer.com).

    DayZ Massive overhaul

Let the discussing begin! I totally share your opinion about the zombies and their hearing/count. But it would be even better if they would be slower than now - I don´t know your image of a zombie, but i would rather say they hobble around instead of running madly. OK, with the current amount of zombies they should really run like this, or they would be a even lesser danger, but if you increase their amount, they could surround you and chase you, until you have no resort. It would also make it more difficult for campers, because they would have to run away after shooting, because there are more zeds than bullets. You simply would have to think thrice before firing in a town, because if you shoot, you will have a big pack of zombies walking straight to your position until something louder excites their attention, or they arrive and catch you / chase your ass while you have to run away and get away from them. I already read some suggestions, which would greatly fit this scenario, like deflecting them with meat or make them killable only by headshots, while shooting on other parts of their body would only slow/stun them. This would reduce the shoot on sight - PvP a litte, but don´t make the player dependent to strangers, because even if a group is "stronger" than a single player, its also more difficult for a group to move under those circumstances. Those changes would also allow to increase the amount of vehicles, because they make noise, and noise will attract the zombies. Also little changes, like "saving" a car, would be nice, so a player, who tries to drive a saved car, will activate the alarm device, which will make noise, and, of course, noise will attract the zombies. Basebuilding, barricading and sneaking, hoarding and protecting ressources will be needed to survive as a group. It would make the player care about noise, attention and avocation all the time.

Factions - just a matter of time

Here is how a mission could start for the military. Take note that I had to use some backstory to get the events started, but every item and piece of equipment you get during the mission will be unique and won't respawn. So, if anything goes wrong, or something is lost you will have to retrieve said item(s) from whoever stole/found it. Mission: Overseer Briefing: a) "There's a military drone that was on transport to the northern airfield. When the convoy struck problems we lost contact. Investigate the area and retrieve the drone." b ) you find: All vehicles of the transport have been disabled. Look for: 1) a mechanic to help build a new transport from spare parts and the remains of the convoy. 2) alternative means of transport Bring the Drone to HQ and refuel it (with grade A, high octane fuel!). c) Access the drone's control station and find out the password. The highest ranking officer had the password and keycard on him. He and some men made it to one of our radio stations and reported in, but contact was lost in the vicinity of ... (city). Find the squad and investigate what happened to them. d) Use the control station and fly the drone to ... (area). Report your findings to HQ If you find a heavily populated zombie zone Let the current group leader make the decision to arm the drone (search for rockets) Let the current group leader make the decision to take a contingent of soldier there and clean the area additional (+) If you find bandit camps in the vicinity make them your secondary objective. e) Establish a military outpost in the cleaned area and maintain it. Find a postman and send SITREP to the civilian populace about the new base. - Mission Accomplished - Military Base benefits = permanent ammo crate + storage zombie free military zone (no zombies spawn inside), safe place for vehicle repairs/modding vehicles. Military Base downsides = area around it is attractive to zombies, civilians/bandits approaching it are shot without warning Military Base benefits from future missions = upgrades to the base + new base items Extra: Equipment to build bases is delivered by airdrop, after successfull completion. Airdrops can be raided like everything else. Extra 2: the Password and keycard are a unique item. Whoever posesses it can use the drone. It can be stolen, as can the drone. Extra 3: There is only so few fuel available as to keep the drone in the air for the duration of the mission. You will be able to distill more high octane fuel, after you have done more missions and got the equipment.
  18. AS50 mag is quieter too. It's damage is extremely cool, however, if you don't have enough mags, use M107 for PVP (still 1-hit kill and easier to find) and AS for vehicles. Honestly though, 30 AS50 rounds (6 mags) is heaps, as usually you won't get that many kills before you disconnect.
  19. -If everything in your tents(not the tents themselves) vanishes after a restart: The problem with tents is a problem with the Hive database, tents created with an ID greater than 1million are bugged and won't store any items since the number assigned to it is *broken* and won't save it. Tested this myself yesterday creating a new tent and everything disappears no matter what. I'm afraid until Rocket doesn't say tents are fixed it's not safe to store anything in a tent created recently. Good news is that he said that it would be fixed soon. -About the ATV: Did you save the ATV and immediately after the restart you entered and it was gone? (and confirmed tents had respawned correctly?) From what I've read and know firs hand, ATV are quite bugged, had two cases myself: 1-Server had one ATV bugged for weeks in a bridge and it couldn't be moved, seemed as if it was in an invisble box. Now it's gone. 2-Got an ATV(not sure if it was the bugged one that respawned elswhere), hid it, saved it and after the restart it disappeared (tents and other vehicles respawned properly).
  20. Over the course of a couple days me and a couple friends found 4 tents, so we started to set up a nice base camp. After about two days with he camp set up the server ate my tents. OK that's just day z. My question is do tents only spawn so many per server , are they like the vehicles and only spawn accordingly to the number of slots on the server ? I ask because i had a huge run of finding tents everywhere now I cant find a single one or im just having bad luck coming across one.
  21. Everyone PLEASE post a comment on this topic so we can make it a "HOT" topic so all the new people like myself can read this. Also if you have any other great links or valuable information please PM me or post it here and I will add it onto this first post. I APPRECIATE ALL THE GREAT FEEDBACK- I have taken the best answers and put them here in the first post so you dont have to scroll down! I will continue to update! This top portion stolen by Prominentalex- thank you! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Starting out! I recommend taking a tutorial that comes with the game to understand the basics of gear, and controls, etc. Map Skills You're alone on the coast. You have no sense of direction, and you dont know where you are. You may or may not know the geography of Chernarus. Yes, it tells you where you spawn, but sometimes it's not always a city. First establish direction. The clouds in Chernarus always flow east. No need for a compass unless its foggy or night time. If you ever get lost always remember that. Now that we've established your direction, you have to locate yourself. The best map I've found, & if there is better, please suggest it, is - http://dayzdb.com/map#4.081.127 Or if it confuses you, you can use a simple map Use landmarks, the roads, and railroads to find out where you are. If the clouds are flowing towards the coast, you know you are located on the East Side of Chernarus. If the clouds are going down the coast, you know you are located somewhere South of Chernarus. Now that you know which side, look around for islands, towers, etc to establish where you are. Now that you know where you are, you need to start getting some supplies. You'll hear a lot about 'Cherno' Chernogorsk & 'Elektro' Elektrozadodsk. Trust me, you'll visit these places eventually. These are the two main cities on Chernarus. They have the most common loot, the most zombie & human traffic, and are very dangerous. Once you start progressing in the game, you can find items such as maps, compasses, watches, GPS's etc. These will help you navigate to your destination, but items like the GPS are rare. Looting & Zombies There are plenty of other towns along the coast where you will spawn, you can find out more information about them in the DayZ Wiki link I'll leave below. Now you finally located a town or city and now you want to find food & water, weapons & equipment. However, as you walk up to a building you notice you cannot open it, that's right not every building is accessible. Here are some of the popular buildings you can collect from - You can see the other buildings in my Photobucket album link. I got all the pictures from the DayZ Wiki. By now you should have encountered a zombie or two. You are probably running for you life, and thankfully, the zombies can never catch you if you continue running. However you can't just run around the map with zombies chasing you. There are different ways to avoid them, and lose them. Well, first off if you have a weapon, and the situation is appropriate, you can shoot them. Try for headshots to conserve ammo. You can also run into a building, wait for them to come in, and leave the building safely. Zombies can't run inside! To avoid them pay attention to your visibility and noise levels - Your blood (Health) and zombie kill count, including player kill count will also be showed on your HUD. Your Hunger, thirst and your temperature is displayed. Zombies are a fair threat. Once you learn how to avoid them & hide from them with more experience your greater threat will be other players. Now back to looting, be sure to not attract any attention towards yourself and only take what you need at the time, or later down the road. If it is daytime, it's a much smart decision taking an extra can of soda then road flares. Learn to conserve your space. When you leave either the big cities, or the little towns and go into the wilderness, you don't want to end up starving to death. ---------------------------------- There are multiple Tiers of loot. For example, you won't find a M16 in a Barn because a barn only spawns specific weapons, ammo and gear. Higher tier places such as Airport Hangars, Barracks and Fire stations like the last picture above will post Military Grade weapons. You can seperate loot into 4 catagories. Farm - Includes rifles, shotguns, shotgun ammo. Hunting knives, etc. Typical woodsy loot. Compound bows, arrows, axes. Military - Night Vision Goggles, typical sniper rifles, GPS, G17's upgrades backpacks. Industrial - A lot of tools, including toolbox's, wiring fences, hatchets, car parts such as wheels and gasoline. Civilian - Medical supplies, lots of food and drinks, some shotguns & rifles. Pistols including Makarov, Revolver & M1911. Here is a VERY good weapon chart a fellow DayZ Member (Izviral) made - https://docs.google....9fV1lYOFE#gid=0 ---------------------------------- Running out of space in your backpack? Found another backpack, and want to know if it is better? Here is the hierarchy Czech Vest Pouch - 6 Slots - Civillian Loot Coyote Patrol Pack - 8 Slots (The Starter Backpack) - Civillian Assault Pack - 12 Slots - Military Czech Backpack - 16 Slots - Civillian ALICE Backpack - 20 Slots - Civillian Coyote Backpack - 24 Slots - Military Misc. Tips - Hold the ALT Key to look around - Clouds always flow east - You can turn M1911 Ammo into .45 ACP and vice versa by right clicking it - When placing tents, and it doesn't fit, hit Pitch Tent again and move back using the 'S' key, and repeat. It almost always pitches the tent - The crosshair is slightly higher than where the bullet will hit. - Swimming will take away your backpack and you might lose some inventory. - Zombies can swim, climb ladders and go through doors. - Running for a while will make you thirstier quicker. - Zombies can't run indoors. - CTRL + M To bring up the GPS - If you have a rangefinder, drop your binoculars to use it and hit 'B' - You can change your characters Race/Face in the Player Profile option in the Main Menu. - You can throw cans to distract zombies, pick a can up and hit 'F' to cycle through firing options. Please, if you have anymore tips, let me know! I just wanted to start this thread, and I will be updating it heavily. I have a lot more info to talk about, videos, screenshots, charts, etc. It will help both survivors and bandits. I hope it'll be done sometime this week. I'll expand it with weapon reviews, popular bandit sniper nests, and plenty of links to help everyone else. Please leave feedback! HELPFUL LINKS - http://dayzhq.com/map/ http://dayzdb.com/ http://www.dayzwiki....title=Main_Page http://s250.photobuc...62/Pciris/Dayz/ https://docs.google....9fV1lYOFE#gid=0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ MY PORTION questions and answers! 1)If I dont die and log out of a server, can I log on to any server i want with my current character? A:Yes 2)If no, how do I find the current server I was playing on to play my same character? A:I do not believe you can access your server history. But I could be incorrect. 3)How do I go in 3rd person mode (doesnt say in controls options) A:]Enter on numpad 4)How do I use hatchet that says (can only cut trees down) to attack zombies? is that even possible? (makes no sense why I cant use a tree cutting hatchet as a weapon) A:Rightclick on hatchet "Remove from toolbelt". The hatchet goes into primary slot, so remove your primary first. 5)Ive been almost walking for 1 hours through villages, how come pretty much EVERY door to a building is locked? A:Not every building is interactable. For a complete list see dayzdb.com/map 6) what are the odds of finding an open building? A:There are a number of buildings that are open, you will learn to recognize them soon enough. They always look the same. 7)Is there a way of determining which doors will open or are they normally already open? A:]Standard enter key, or scroll wheel open door. This will only work on interactable doors. 8)Best way to evade zombies/lose them? A:Crouch/Prone. If you already aggro'd some of them zig-zag up a hill or run through buildings (atm they are not able to run inside of buildings). Or run around a corner and lay down, they will lose you (most of the times). Or jsut shoot them 9)how do I use Microphone to people in my area? A:Switch to direct chat, and press and hold capslock (default) 10) can I holster my weapon so I don't keep throwing flares? A:Double tap Ctrl to lower your weapon, although i dont think it will stop you from throwing flares. 11) how come peek doesnt worrk in first person mode A]it does, but i believe you have to have a weapon first. 12) does Q and E make you look left and right in 3rd person mode (Numpad Enter)? A:]As in, peek around corners? Then yes. 13) if your completely lost in a forest how do I determine which way to go to get out? A:Use a watch or compass, or set a waypoint on your map, otherwise just take a guess. If you're new try to get a compass or watch before you head out. 14) do I have to reload everytime I want to swing with hatchet? A:[No, you have 99999 or so swings. 15) Where is an ideal place to find a map, compass, watch? A: Shops are a main area for maps compass' and too many watches. 16) How do I make my view turn 180, Left and right when in 3rd person mode while still looking straight? (saw on a video a guy was checking his surroundings just by turning his characters head.) A:The ALT key. Hold it down. You can do it while moving too, but NOT whilst also holding SHIFT to slow down. 17)How do you Pistol whip? A: NO 18)How do you jump? A:Aside from ejecting from a helicopter, vaulting off a cliff, walking off a building, standing near a high explosive or getting hit by a truck there is no way to get airborne. V(ault) will allow you to mantle low obstacles. Use caution though, as vaulting Concertina wire will sometimes result in broken legs. 19) I noticed V does something with my characters legs? hurtle or kick? A:It is how you jump over objects (barbwire, sandbags) 20) I found an animal, can I kill it and eat it? A: Cooking an animal is the most reliable way to survive in the wilderness, when couple with a canteen and a pond one never needs to enter the cities again. Kill the animal (either with a firearm or a hatchet), procure wood (using the context menu on the hatchet while standing next to a tree in a forest), build a campfire (by using the context menu on the matches), light the fire (by looking at the campfire and using it's context menu with the scroll wheel), and cook the meat (again using the context menu with the scroll wheel on the lit fire). Cooking meat will cook all meat in your immediate inventory (as in not in your backpack). Each meat allows the recovery of 800 blood, making it the next best thing to a bloodpack, killing cooking and eating a cow will allow the recovery of a total of 6400 blood (over half). Use caution however, as campfires attract all zombies within 300 meters and during the day the smoke can be seen by observant players; during the night the light from the fire can be seen from over a kilometer granted Line of sight. 21)I found a well, can I use to for water source? A:Yes but you need a canteen or empty water bottle. These can be procured most reliably in Residential and Farm areas. 22) can I fill up empty soda cans? A: Empty Soda Cans generate noise when thrown that zombies and jumpy players will investigate. Use this to your advantage as you see fit. 23) Can I use a lake or a stream to fill water? A:Ponds are a reliable water source, however most are not in heavily wooded areas that provide visible and protective cover, use caution and as always, move quickly and quietly. 24) what items are required to build a jeep/Bike/helicopter? Fuel Tank parts are required to repair a vehicles fuel tank, scrap metal to repair the hull, tires to repair the wheels, engine parts to repair the engine, and for helicopters only you need a main rotor assembly. The number vary from vehicle to vehicle, to check the condition enter the vehicle and check the top left GUI. Bars that are red mean parts that need to be replaced. These can all be found at medium and high value Industrial targets, of which there are large easily accessible clusters in both Cherno and Electro. You will also need jerry cans full of fuel to actually operate your vehicle. These function similarly to canteens but are filled at gas stations and tanker trailers. Once a vehicle is repaired it's wise to keep spare parts in the in vehicle container, to allow for emergency field repairs. 25)Can you hit with your barehands? No. 26)Can I start a fire with a Flare? No. Flares are useful for signaling and light generation, but they do not ignite flammable objects (likely due to engine limitations). 27)where can I get fire? Procure matches and a hatchet from a residential, industrial or farm target, both are relatively common. Proceed to a forest, approach a tree, right click the hatchet's context menu and click harvest wood. Then right click matches and select build campfire. Next aim at the campfire and use the scroll wheel on your mouse to select light fire from the campfire's context menu. You can also use campfires for storage, though you will lose anything in them should you light them. 28)can I shoot a jimmy can and create an explosion? No, also likely due to engine limitations. 29) can you swim? Can Zombies Swim? Yes to both, but zombies suffer pathfinding issues in water, so for new players it's a sound escape strategy to go for a swim. This can however lead to infection as your body temp drops, and with larger packs can lead to the loss of inventory in pack. 30) how do you change between chats? Voice and Typing. Caps lock to speak, / / ? key to use text. You don't need to switch between the two as they're keyed separately. 31) can you hold 2 primary weapons? what are the pros and cons? I will have more in future. Please no flaming, im just trying to get information like everyone else.,

Tom Berenger has a lot to answer for

If the military was overrun, as you say... wouldn't they have used up the majority of their ammunition in their failed attempt to stagger the zombie hordes? Or to put it bluntly, wouldn't the amount of ammunition be severely reduced and/or near impossible to find? Sure, loads of guns dropped by overrun and dead soldiers... but no ammo cause they spent it all. Furthermore we don't really know what happened. So if we are going to speculate on that, we might as well say the military successfully withdrew the largest part of the population and their own personnel and vehicles, and what we see as we arrive on the scene in the aftermath is simply those that didn't make it. Hence, the military would have shipped out the majority of their supplies (including ammo stores). Either way... there is a massive overload of sniping in the game in it's current state... which draws the game away from the survival encounters you might have had within the cities or outlaying villages. There is little suspense or excitement when everyone carries around enough ammunition to blow away the entire zombie population in a city if they want to. The last time I checked my tent I had 20 DMR magasines in there. And I know for certain others have alot more, and higher end, ammunition such as M249 boxes, AS50 ammo, Dragunov ammo and whatmore... and plenty of it as well (in fact so much I couldn't carry it all and had to ride a bicycle over the tents to destroy the contents). Anyways... this game is about spending roughly 1 or 2 hours to get yourself something scoped... then go camp a city to inflate your murder count. If the scoped rifles were removed, or at the very least made much, much rarer to come across... there would be alot more action going in within the cities as people would have to get in closer to find other players due to the lack of long range sighting on their weapons. Right now it's a sniper simulator because; 1. Scoped weapons are so easy to find. 2. Everyone likes taking shots at players without them being able to shoot back 3. By laying 1000 meters away you minimize the risk of being killed, and by extension the risk of losing your scoped weapons. The risk vs reward in the game is completely gone once you got scoped weapons. People with shotguns and handguns are putting themselves at a very real risk of being shot as they have to get within the 100m engagement radius... while anyone with a scope can lay in cover and have a field day without being spotted. Put some risk into sniping or remove/reduce the availability of snipers in the game.
  23. Top ten things wrong with Day Z; 1-10 Stop whining... P.s. You really think you would have a vehicle if the same vehicles spawned in every server. That would basically be what 10 vehicles to 12k+ players...seems legit.

I think a key here is to find a solution that would make acquiring vehicles actually possible, while still not "super-easy". Since the vehicles can be destroyed quite easily (except for the APC, i guess), there are currently more vehicle "sinks" than sources, if you count the forests as a sink. I wouldn't mind fighting over the cars, but *running* around trying to actually locate one to fight over - that I find boring as hell.

    Vehicles less rare?

By my estimate, a lot. And that isn't such a bad thing, if most of them are in pretty bad condition. Repairing vehicles requires collecting parts, that's a very dedicated task for even a small group, since car parts take up so much space. It'd also mean that industrial centers would be more dangerous, as people go there looking for parts. With so many vehicles around, there wouldn't really be many safe places to leave your car, so getting in one and using it for transport, rather than setting up a camp, would be more prevalent.
