  1. First off, I've been playing for a good month now. In fact I'd almost say 2 months. That said, I do feel like I have played this game enough to have an informed opinion of the mechanics and what not. I'd also like to state that I am NOT a new computer gamer, I've been playing games since the ti-99/4a (look it up kids!), however I would not consider myself an avid FPS player. On a bell curve of skill, I'd say my FPS skills are in the bottom third. Its just the way it is. Even when CS was "new" I was usually the first to die. Anyway, I couldn't help myself but to moan and groan about day-z. About the quirks, the bugs, and what makes it special. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this game! I can't put it down, but some things needs to be said in a thoughtful and coherant fashon. Issue #1: Bugs Arma II is buggier than a hooker with a cold. Granted, this isnt a problem with day-z so much, but good lord arma 2 was release in 2009! One would think in three years they could have gotten rid of the major bugs by now. Graphic glitches, crashes to desktop, rocks and doors eating people... These are issues that should have been fixed in 2009. For example, I had just finished raiding the tents in stary. I see a person with a starter backpack and a makarov leaving the big shed, normally, I would call friendly and if they werent, i would ahve made swiss cheese of them, however the game crashes. Not the whole game, just the video. Meaning, while the game shit all over itself, I could hear the person gun me down. YAY. -_- Issue #2: Bandits I'm not going to complain about them. Honestly, this game wouldn't be half as good without them. I want to say, bring back the bandit skin. but every time I think of a suggestion, I think to myself; thats not the way it would work in 'real life'. I want there to be an easier way to determine someone being friendly aside from finding out by being shot in the back. But that's not the way it works. I want bandits to not horde vehicles and weapons, but thats not the way it woul work in real life. All that said, what I do want is for people to grow a pair, man up and deal with them. Don't want to be a bandit, dont. Stop expecting people to play the game the same way as you do. Rockets response to bandits is correct. Group up with somone and deal with it yourself. Issue #3: loots Honestly, why is mountain dew so rare? /rage But seriously, In most cases, I think loot is mostly correct. there are little nagging things, like why on earth are matches rare? also, toolboxes should be a LOT more common. They should also take up 3 inventory slots, even though I'm happy they dont... More backpack types should be findable. school backpacks should be EVERYWHERE in a town. maybe they wont be much better than the coyote patrol pack, but I'm just tossing out ideas. I'd like to see the entrenching tool be common, and useable to dig a hole. this hole will be server dependent, and you can hide whatever you want in it. It sould appear like a small dirt mound, and be discoverable like a tent. issue #4: night I dont care what anyone says, night is broken. I live in colorado. I can drive for 5 minutes and quite literally have NOTHING around me. It would be open fields for miles. out of 30 days, I would say 20 are clear and you can EASILY see. Not enough to read, but enough that you can move around, not fall over things, etc. the last 10, 5 are moonlit, and I mean its BRIGHT moon. Bright enough to read a large text book. I'm not kidding! the last 5 are cloudy and overcast, but you can almost always see enough to not bump into things. I can goto the mountains, and the same thing! not as bright as the open fields, but I can always see enough to not walk into trees. Inside buildings, I support it being so black you cant see at all, but not outside. To those people that say "omg use flares/chemlights", fuck you. Seriously. go pop a chem light or flare and see how long before someone with nvgs comes and kills your blind ass. Ok if you are in a deserted server, its okay, but all the people with nvgs and such come out at night. You might as well fire an enfield so EVERYONE knows where you are. Issue #5: The twats that read these forums NOBODY comes into this world knowing every detail about everything. While this game is tailored to the verteran fps player. Thinking you are god's gife to the world in gaming shows the world just how juvanile you really are. The biggest lesson I learned when counter strike was TEH SHIT is, there will ALWAYS be some slant-eyed little shit in some dank rice paddy that is a better shot than you in this game. You have to realize this is a GAME. I paid $30 to enjoy the simulation. Not to hear you brag to your friends how you got your first pube by shooting some unarmed person, or how your voice cracks when you mouth off to people on an internet forum. I have been known to join a server and play mother hen to some new player getting their feet wet. I would counter-snipe in cherno or elektro and guide someone via binoculars trough town. Will I kill zombies for them? not usually. Will I make sure they live long enough to get a gun? yes. In the long run elitism is self defeating and hurts everyone. Overall, I love this game. Not because of zombies, but because of the evolution of playstyle. Unless your mother and father were brother and sister, your playstyle will change DRASTICALLY from day one to a month in. Case in point, the dayz or our livez series on youtube. You see someone completely clueless go from a viewpoint of "lets all be friends" to "shoot first ask later". I remember being fresh faced when I first logged in, only to get lost, eventually find a town and then fall to the ground like a sack of rocks only to hear a loud crack. I remember killing my first survivor not because I had to, but because I diddnt want to risk him taking my beans. I've sat on the towers of cherno and popped anything that moved below me. I think the root cause of this problem is, there are no goals. The ultimate thing to do is get a helecopter going. Which is impossible thanks to hoarding. Once you have food and a gun WHAT NEXT? For the majority of single players it means turning bandit to releave the boredom. It causes a cycle of careless banditry that turns a lot of people away. I propose having greater goals. I would like to see the power plant in elektro be reactivated. I want to see survivors populate a "safe" town. I want these towns to be ran by people. For lack of better terms, I want to see thunderdome from the road warrior! Or more accuratly the town from the movie "the book of eli". To me, thats how I envision society after a zombie outbreak. I want to see the tower at green mountain get re-activated. Maybe a factory can get re-started and new bullets can be made. the possibilities are endless!I would like to see some sort of spawn protection in this. I know its not "real" but fuck you. When you log in, you should be either invisible or invulrnible, for sake of arguement for 15 seconds or until you move your mouse. More than once, during the 20 fucking minute logons, I was shot and killed before I could do anything. naturally some people will say "ZOMG DONT LOG OUTS IN BAD PLACES OMG!" I would point these people to Issue #1. I have never alt-f4'ed out of a fight. There are MANY times I wish I had, but I have a big heavy pair of swinging brass balls. I take my lumps when I deserve it. I know I would probably still have my as50 if I had a vagina and battle logged. Anyway, my server I usually play is now back up so i'm going to go do that.
  2. hey there :D me and my buddies have just finished repairing our helicopter and have been flying a little around. Now we want to quite for today, and save the helicopter, like when you save other vehicles :) But my friend can't seem to ''save'' it, is it possible to save it, or does it not need saving? and do you have to fix everything? (we haven't fixed the windows yet)

  4. Sounds like you would know? HostAltitude didn't even reset the server when it was purchased. Incidentally your car in Starry along with the other 2 hordes of vehicles and multiple camping tents were found and destroyed (so they could properly respawn for all players). So is the pot calling the kettle black? Additionally did I mention it would be SUPERLATIVE if HostAltitude would actually reset their servers when a new admin purchased them. This kind of customer service is akin to getting a half eaten pizza in what was supposed to be a fresh box. (Fair warning to all) Let's break this down so everyone has a realistic idea of what is actually happening here. > Ian2buckz refunds server 1345. > Server 1345 is purchased by a new owner. > The server is brought online during a major patch weekend. > Over the course of the weekend the server is reset multiple times. > The server is occasionally locked and unlocked (I played multiple times this past weekend). > The owners discover that the server was not properly reset (Nice one HostAltitude!). > Despite being in violation of the rules the owner decided to keep it locked until they can manually reset it, so everyone could have a fresh chance to play. > Spend hours looking for the cars. > Discover they are ALL horded (minus 1 PBX) in 2 different mega camps. > Destroy vehicles (manually resetting server). > Server unlocked today with all vehicles (including helicopters :D) properly respawned and available for all. > ian2buckz gets butthurt and sends email to HostAltitude. > HostAltitude never informing the server Admin of the complaint responds to ian2buckz stating they are suspending the server (Nice one AGAIN HostAltitude). > This misinformed thread is created. > What could have been a nice FRESH server is destroyed by some random impatient moron. To the players who like to report everyone and everything. Do you realize why people host servers? It's not so they can sit around and pander to your every whim. They are providing a free service a community of what appears like generally ungrateful jerks. As proven in this thread. The OP made zero effort to contact the server admin who has already posted in this thread (it's not me, check signatures). Instead he would rather run like a little wimp to the hosting company and cry. Last time my friends and I try and support the community by giving players a fresh start. I guess next we can just take all the vehicles for ourselves.
  5. We need more players! We need more organized squads. People who do raids. Competition! New players! People of all kinds. Bandits & Survivors. Server is very stable, and hasn't crashed once. It's located in northern FL and hosted by Vilayer. No getting stuck at loading or waiting for character to create. Load in time is practically immediate. We try to keep hacking to as much of a minimum as possible (We always have be-rcon running and are scanning server logs constantly for any scripts executing that shouldn't be and once we associate them with a guid, that guid gets banned immediately. Two have suffered this fate already and they were detected within about 10 minutes, luckily before they killed any unfortunate players). Also have a strict stance on ALT F4 or Combat logging in general. Do it once, if you come back in.. I'm going to notice and send you a nice little warning over battle-eye global(which everyone can see). Do it a second time, or if you ghost to reposition to kill your attacker, it's perma ban.. I know I could catch flak for that, since it's not on the list of reasons to kick and/or ban but it ruins the enjoyment of the players who call my server their home and that is of the utmost importance to me. If you're killed fairly, I can't help you. If I kill you, I obviously can't help you in that case either :P. If you're a fair player, who wants a fair experience, come find US1313 and join in on the slaughter. I cannot and will not guarantee your safety at any time :) Also, very important. If anyone who is already playing on my server notices anything fishy, hacking or otherwise.. I strongly urge you to send me an email at [email protected] with the persons name(If you can acquire it via looking at the player-list and narrowing it down, the time it happened(as close as possible to the actual time) and a description of what happened, and I will do my best to correct any issues and also send the GUID of that player to DayZ as well so they can add it to the master ban list if they deem necessary. Server details, for anyone who wants to know ahead of time.. Video of me and all the other CQF members who were on the server trying to get back in after the ban: Basically we were on the server last night, found a couple camps up north, as well as 3 vehicles. Geared up and stole the vehicles, hiding them somewhere else on the map. We were playing today after the server went down for a few hours. I was helping a clan mate who was injured heal up and recover another vehicle (the dirt bike) when somebody took me out with an AS 50 and my clan mate (Christian) took out the sniper. A while later (after the bandit we took out logged off the server) I'm running back from the beach and we all get banned from server at the same time. None of us hacked, cheated or exploited in any way. If you know CQF you know that that would not be tolerated at all. We suspect we were banned for raiding their camps.

    I play on this server and when i logged in today our vehicles and tents were gone. They weren't raided as we have a few spread out and none of them are there, not flattened, etc. I assume a server restart will fix this. Also, grats on owning us yesterday after we took shots at your helicopter. Would love to hear what happened on your end. EDIT: fixed with restart, thanks
  8. Can confirm that it will start leaking(Albeit slowly) when damaged, have yet to repair it enough to stop. For those of you telling us to, you can't repair the fueltank on the Huey. Huey also seems to be desyncing a whole lot, but not more so than other vehicles - seems to be on par, it's just very weird to see the helicopter go upside down for a few seconds, also makes shooting things very difficult. A patch to fix vehicle desyncing in general would be very welcome. Vehicles desync depending on the amount of players, usually 30+ will cause the vehicles to desync very often - as in going off-course and through buildings, sometimes up in the air. This has been around for long, and is annoying - but not really gamebreaking in itself. Although I can confirm that desyncing can get you killed, a friend of mine desynced and got killed(Teleported to where he died split-second after he actually died.), most likely some other guy saw him standing still on his screen - and shot him, thus he was killed. This occured on a highly populated server, with the Hatchback. Seeing as vehicles are one of the biggest features of DayZ, I'd love to see them getting some love. Example of issues; • ATV unreliable, likes to flip over when off-road(More common when uphill). Also gets stuck on bridges. • ATV goes airbourne if pushed when flipped over or stuck on a bridge. • DayZ specific objects seem to cause extreme damage, can ram trees and houses no problem. But if you hit a roadblock and your tire gets flat, the vehicle will blow up(V3S and Tractor is great to re-produce this issue with.). Edit: Am surprised yours even started. You can ferry items over to the island no problem, your gear should not disappear(This have yet to be confirmed whether its disabled by Server Admins or DayZ Devs!). Vehicles respawn on server restart.
  9. Okay so I have a few questions regarding vehicles. So when a vehicle is blown up, it seems to come back after restart, but will it come back in the last saved spot, or exactly where it blew up? Also it seems that if you save them when blown up they despawn? Am I correct about that? Also are there anything else regarding vehicles like that?

Was playing today 7/29/12 approx 3:40pm -7 GMT Entered the game and was playing for a few hours and found a bicycle, first vehicle I found ever; suddenly after 20 minutes of going around I was teleported to a shady field where I noticed a few players and other vehicles they have horded and was promptly shot by the admin team. or any players granted admin authority. what can be done about this blatant act of admin abuse! very disappointing about the level of control these abusive admins have over servers accessible to the public players.

    yeah that's about right for me, too. but then, I live on a militarized rock, not in a post-soviet republic with its attendant declines. I think it might be difficult to find shoes let alone military vehicles.
  16. kind of agree with much of what the OP says. keys for vehicles is a no no though. I'd like to see less scoped rifles and more aging soviet weaponry please. CZ550 should be only sniper ingame. much of the serious military gear should go.

  19. 1: This is only my opinion but it's entirely a player behavior issue, the mod sort of capitalise on letting us decide what is apropriate or not. 2: Firing weapons from inside vehicles has been a feature request on arma2 and OA for quite a while, i'm not sure what BIS is waiting for, considering it's implemented in their military version of the game. As for keys? then you need indestructible vehicles because other players will destroy what they can't use. 3:I could see some improvements done there but it shouldn't make it a sort of inner sanctum, if you're leaving your camp unguarded for 24 hours, someone should be able to break in. Also building such a camp should take at least as long as it would take to undo it. 4: Kinda like a satchel basically? 5: I agree thermal scopes are a bit... meh. I could see thermal binoculars though, let you spot players, but you can't see much else or aim through it. 6: A zombie movie setting would need a hundred time more zombies, including large wandering hordes going toward the biggest noise on the map. But no game out there can handle this many entities i believe. 7: ok 8: The problem isn't that they aren't rare enough, it's that they never get destroyed, a good rifle is either picked from your buddy by your killer, or by a good friend. everyone ditch winchesters and lees left and right, but no one will ditch an L85. 9: Huh? 10: This is going to be an uphill battle, the Arma engine distribute "work" to the clients in order to lessen the load on the server, not sure how this will affect it. And people should stop assuming DayZ will ever gets out of the "mod" status, that's giving yourself false hopes, for now all that exists is there, and it's a mod, what it becomes in the future is pure speculation.

    I'm tired of not finding vehicles

    A mate and me were looking for vehicles for some days. 3 days ago we found 2 ATVs and wanted to fix them (missing wheels and engie). While looting Berezino, we found an UAZG and laughed hysterically. Unfortunately, the server was shutting down for maintenance. We didn't care much, because we saved the car and it was hidden quite well (+ this spawn is not marked on any loot map). But as I joined the server again the next day, it was gone, hurray... Still, we are looking forward to find another car. Just don't give up ;)

    Servers with Sniper Rifles Removed

    Freaky great idea and this would work rather well.Take away the rifles that blow people up and just have sniper rifles that need skill by a head shot or player lives is great for gameplay.Who cares about the ant-materiel attacks on vehicles.Put in a few spawns of rocket launchers with very low ammo to keep it sane.
  22. We are 1 Kilometre from a major city, the map end is another 1km away. It's just well hidden. We've worked this hard to get OUR vehicles so we're going to try to protect them. Low pop servers are the best bet to find vehicles, try a server with 5-10 players and check the vehicle spawns.

I have been playing dayz for a couple months now, and want to take it to the next level with a group of people, to find crashed heli's, raid the airfields, and look for vehicles and set up a massive camp. To do so, i need trust worthy, mature experienced players willing to fight and survive for one another. Because Dayz got boring, its now all about gear and PVP, wasn't this meant to be about survival ? 1: Removal of bandit skin resulted in possibly irreversible damage, the heartbeat should been in sooner, one of the most intense and exciting parts of this mod was meeting unknown players and not knowing how they would react, all that has gone, needs something more, where is humanity ? 2: Vehicles - the shortest amount of time we "owned" a vehicle was about 15 minutes before the hackers came,.... and as with camps the vehicles are never safe unless guarded 24/7, vehicles need "keys" and need the ability to fire weapons from inside the vehicle also. 3: Camps - waste of time unless guarded at all times, easier to find and loot camps than risk going into towns, need more defences such as razor wire, claymores or IED's, tripwires, alarms etc. 4: New item - IED (improvised explosive device), consists of 3 parts which must be found in order to build, explosive, detonator and sensor(?) or tripwire. 4: Weapon nerfing - i understand that some of the weapons may have needed a tweek but not a total nerf fest, most of these weapons will now be completely useless against players, need to increase zombie health instead of such big changes in weapon damage. 5: The L85 thermal scope - i am absolutely against this, should not need to explain why, but if this thing has to stay then simulate low battery level with flickering on the scope or give the scope limited "life", this is one weapon that really does need a nerf, just replace with ACOG version best solution. 6: Zombies - still too easy in some respects, what is the definition of a zombie ?, of course we refer to the movies, but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zombie I assume that the zombie is pretty much brain-dead with only basic functions available and no sense of pain, therefore i would suggest the following- As a starting point zombie health increased to equal the player, (requires more body shots) but one headshot from any weapon will put him down, in order for this to work running speed must be slowed down 20% as starting point, the fast movers are too fast. Should zombies be able to climb ladders (?) Seeing distance too great and camo/ghillie suit should reduce your visibility by 30% +/- Zombies too easy to lose, run though a building and they are gone, lets have some indoor action like before and above all make the zed's a real threat. Zombie attack distance seems too great, in other words its like their arms are 3 or 4 meters long, reduce the attack distance so it actually feels like being hit rather than some invisible force. 7: Food and water - as a starting point reduce spawns by 20% water and 30 % for food. 8: Hi-end weaponry/ rarity - all dayz needs IMO is a set of "nice" weapons available to those who are willing to travel a bit, do not make these weapons so rare that people resort to hacking and duping which is what has happened, the weapons list needs a revision, is it unreasonable to expect that the top-end sniper rifle is an M40, this isn't ARMA anymore. 9: Night vision - ;) Rocket talks about wanting to create an "atmosphere" at night time, hence the reason for messing with or fixing gamma levels (which BTW had a detrimental effect on daytime visuals) but i don't see a reason why this can't happen, only NVG's detract from this, consider removal of this item. 10: Hacking - i understand the need for a certain level of cheating/hacking/exploiting, but this is out of control, will the removal of SP mode help ?, need to start swinging the ban hammer. Thats all.

    Working electricity in DayZ ?

    Just a suggestion of mine. I've seen some of the "generators" or whatever is it, I don't really know, I'm not into that stuff. Would be quite interesting if you could gather some stuff, like fuel, maybe scrap methal, maybe some... cabels, whatever, and make it working. And let's say if you could actually repair the generator and start it, you would have electricity in one, or in a couple of villages. Would be povered by fuel just as vehicles and stuff, so you'd need xyz fuel to run it for xyz time. While the generator is running, the street lamps and all the lights in the cities/villages would be fully working, lighting up everything. I just don't know if those things actually are in the game as I haven't looked for them so.. Would be great to have some source of light at night times, also would kinda add a little protection from snipers etc, because you could just hide up in the building for the night, and they'd actually have to come into the town to kill you, which means you would see them as well. Or they would be able to sabotage your generator and get you in the darkness with their NVG. Please read, think about it and post your opinion. Don't do the "go play cod/l4d/whatever" thing please.Thanks :)
