Are we allowed to edit the Squad.xml? Is that in any sort of violation of the hosting a server rules? That allows us to put clan tags and upload a logo to the server which will be displayed on vehicles. Before I change anything wanted to verify this is allowed as I know several groups are doing it... considering it's on the Bohemia Interactive wiki.

Me and a friend attacked a clan, stole their car in 'prig' and then made a camp after finding quite a number of vehicles throughout the map on our journey. This consisted of 2 atvs, a motorbike, 2 cars (one is the stolen one), a little speedboat dinghy, 2 tractors and a fishing boat (God knows why i saw it and wanted it). At this stage the longest time we had a car was about 30 mins before the server crashed and the car disappeared into a cyber blackhole I logged on today and decided to see if my little brother had managed to get back to camp with one of the ATVs safely I stumble across a HUGE cloud of dust, so my first instinct is to sweep round and see if it is a smoke grenade or something more sinister... Turns out it was a group of hackers (one by the name Leo) and it was a landing helicopter. Now at the time we didn't know it was hackers, but as usual I engage them unseen and they all disconnect... Fair enough I have the cars parked in front of the helicopter and a empty helicopter which i quickly seize. I then locate another helicopter landed just across from camp so I pick a clan member up form green mountain and try to quickly seize a second helicopter... We then spot the hackers (still don't know) and engage them from the air... 1 disconnects and the other couple return fire so I flee. I then land and tell my clan member to try and get a car or something and we'll hide again. Just as I lift off I get teleported to the southern coast and what happens to be in my flight path... A forest... we both die and spawn to the merry INFERNO of cherno and electro and all other villages... At this point we were a bit miffed we had some laffs and giggles but really? What the hell is the point in spawning helicopters in the game. Also I think they may have hacked the helicopter radar cause there was no way on earh they could have located all of our spread out vehicles... A good mile between them. Hackers... destroyed my camp bubble today. :'D

There's a pattern for me obviously. As soon as I have a great experience in-game, it somehow gets fucked up :D I was heading from Kamenka to Zelenogorsk, using the route someone recommended in my "Spawned in Kamenka, where to go" thread (hitting the dear stand to the north of Kamenka, going north-east to the barn, then to those 3 deer stands that make a triangle, just south, or south-west from Bor. Before I reached the "Deer stand triangle" I saw a guy with an axe, attacked by zombie. I approached him as he killed the zombie and we looted the 3 deer stands together. Aggroing quite a few zombies doing that. After we looted the last deer stand we decided to go to Zeleno. There was nothing more in the deer stands than ammo and smoke grenades. As soon as we started to crawl towards the road between us and the forest that leads to Zeleno (that's what I though, at least), some guy opened fire on us, trying to hit me (screw you, my grandma can aim better :D ) Not a scratch. We crossed the road and started going up the hill. At that point the guy I was traveling with vanished. Probably got disconnected. I waited for a bit and then decided it's time to go. Just as I reached the forest, I was teleported in the middle of the forest (don't know if the same one I as approaching), right next to a mint-condition huey! I didn't know where I was, but hey - good for me. A heli in perfect condition, full of fuel, I could fly, try to see where I am, and get where I want to go (I don't really want any vehicles for now). So, I get in, I start the engine and just before I started taking off, I appeared next to the heli again. Tried it one more time - this time I took off. The damn thing just rolled over and killed me as soon as I was a few inches from the ground. So, it's a great day for the beach again. Man, I'm on the beach every day, this is the greatest vacation EVER! :D

Does amount of loot reduce speed?
wolfstriked replied to The_Man's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Depends, for Dayz style game maybe not as its more geared towards authentic rather than realistic. But if they were to make a standalone SP then...and IMO this mod screams for a SP portion and I think it would add tremendously to its appeal.4Hour light cycle, having to find wood to keep you warm for the night, sleeping bags to lay down to use when you need to sleep,no snipers just looking to blow your head off, vehicles you find parts to repair and allowing you to travel to further towns to scavenge....just you against all odds.Think Project Zomboid but in FPS style game. -
Good day fellow bandits. I am glad to say that US 816 came online last night for awhile and I was able to blow up a few more things. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3ynVdpfOjU&feature=plcp Last night I logged in with a buddy. The plan was to blow up what was at their base. After that I placed another bomb and waited for Deagle to show up before blowing that one up. Sadly Deagle never showed up. However we did end up being kicked about two dozen times, and I even had a chat with some of the members from the group in the lobby. We were called hackers, and were told that the Dev rules about kicking people don't matter etc etc. Seems like Deagle has the shitty admin attitude, he owns the server he can do what ever the fuck he wants. I tried playing dumb in hope of avoiding a ban which would put an end to blowing up the stuff they recover when they are online. I guess it worked since I didn't get banned. Video shows two explosions, second one is a good one for sure. Also shows about 8minutes of talking to these scumbags. These guys also shut the server down when they logged off. It appears that they will only turn it on while deagle and buttbuddies are around. Doesn't matter that they are doing this now I was able to save most of the burning vehicles long before they rebooted or shutdown the server.

No matter where you hide stuff, it'll be found, people dedicate a lot of time to finding camps and vehicles, they know where to look. Basically the place you decide no one ever goes to and is the best place,100% guaranteed 10 other people thought the same thing. Or will think it later.

White Flag? Ceasefire? (Stop KoS)
gizm0 replied to SwitchBlayd's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Also do our guns clean themselves, and how do we open the can of beans without a can opener or knife, or even know how to give a blood transfusion, don't get me started on how we are also master machinics that can fix a wild range of vehicles ranging from Military Grade Helicopters to civilian dirtbikes. -
1200m shots are not common place, most people can't manage 800m. Also forgot to mention, DMR can be used with night vision, best sniper in the game for versatility. Anyway on to the point. Duping is a problem yes, but the guns themselves are not. AS50 is going to kill you no matter what, not because of the gun but the .50 BMG coming from it, this round can tear a human in half from a fair distance. It is an Anti-Material rifle, designed for use on Military Equipment most commonly Vehicles, Infantry have no or minuscule chance of survival, get shot in the foot, you lose a leg etc. L85, This is not the end all be all weapon, it's range is pathetic unless your good at equating bullet drop, effective at 300m anything longer and you can get better accuracy elsewhere. Thermal is good for spotting sure, but lets see it's counters. Trees, Bushes, Glass and Buildings. It is nigh useless in close quarters because there are many better options for that situation, since it uses a scope, no aiming for you, hip fire is accurate to a point but you'd be better off with a FAL or Mk 48 if your going CQC. Duping is of course a problem, but teams usually only have 1-2 L85's, these guys don't shoot unless they are a solo overwatch then they have a back up sniper. I'll agree with the point made earlier, if these guns weren't here, complaints would go to the next high tier firearm, we'll end up at "Hatchet is to quiet, make it louder" at some point if they removed weapons because of complaints. In short, Get rid of Duping, but keep the weapons intact. Duping will have to waiting till Standalone though.

Latest "patches" not really fixing key issues?
daze23 replied to kicktd's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
rocket had said a few time that the thing on the top of the list is performance. so it makes sense that a lot of the updates have to do with optimization and whatnot buggy tents and vehicles are hardly "major issues" -
What is it with vehicle's
Fraggle (DayZ) replied to jamestrendall's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Are you always on the same server? I honestly have no problems finding vehicles. It's rare to see them in the spawn locations. I go looking for camps. Usually on a server you'll find there's a main group hoarding them. If you dedicate a couple hours to searching you'll find them. If you find several together then destroy the ones you don't take, that'll really piss them off. If you still have trouble finding them, PM me and I'll give you the COORDS of some of my favourite spots. I bet you a tin of beans I can get you a vehicle within the hour. -
I didn't even start with DayZ I went into armory first and acquainted myself with the guns and vehicles. Then when I joined DayZ I got shot as a spawned in. I tried to give people the benefit of doubt but they just caused problems. So I said fuck it I moved north got myself a rifle and made my first kill. Words cannot describe the rush I felt. So I got myself a sniper. Now if anyone comes into my scope they get domed. Cheers mate.

I have searching high and low, coast to hills, village to towns, I have yet to find any vehicle! Im sure there is a group of players server hopping taking all vehicles and storing them somewhere. I would give my cooked meat, MP5A5, AK74 Kobra, Just to get a vehicle. I know running dosnt take that long but please let me find a vehicle..... I have travel'd the coast from one edge of the map to the other and nothing! not even a car that still needs repairing! My friend and I have searched the whole map for a vehicle and the only thing we have found is a crash sight where we got an anti astronaut sniper rifle but if we shot that thing we seem to get agro from every zombie in a 200Km radius! Has anyone else found a vehicle? have you come across a stash of vehicle's? how does the spawning system work? every map i find is useless.... I have resorted in shooting people in the leg while agro'd and watching them die for entertainment I keep a morphine on me to rescue them if i start to feel bad and they cry over the mic. Come one someone has got to have a map with a vehicle location stored! Im slowly turning in to a evil person on this game! if i dont find a vehicle soon i think im going to start shooting people in the leg then throwing a smoke grenade next to them for shits and giggles.

I think part of the problem is the players inventory not updating regularly as well. I notice, sometimes when I log out shortly after looting some items, I'll log back in the next day and none of the items will be in my inventory. If I remove items from a tent, sometimes when I log back in, the items are gone from my pack AND they are not in the tent. So, maybe a partial solution would be, when players interact with say tents/vehicles/other players packs (adding ground loot would be excessive, I feel), their inventory is then auto saved similar to the manual save button for vehicle/tent inventories. I'm not sure if this stuff is related to the duping but it seems very similar to the problem only in the opposite manner. Also, I'm not sure how much lag or how much in the way of resources this would consume but, in my mind, it seems that this could atleast fix alot of frustration of players logging back in the next day sans all the goodies they have procured. Also, one last thought, what if player inventories were forcefully saved at a log out or any time they player disconnects from a server? (I'm not a programmer, just spit ballin here)
-
that would be really good, but would also encourage hoarding. nothing against it, but if all the vehicles on the map were hidden away in a tree, it would kind of suck.
-
I guess what you meant to say was "...if he -were- to add more guns, they should be the kind that you'd find in a rural eastern european coastal area that was hit by a sudden outbreak of Zombiecalypse with literally thousands of dead soldiers, crashed military force recon/assault helicopters from the UN(hence the european weaponry) military vehicles(destroyed HMMWV's everywhere), outposts(Military emergency base near fucking balota), bases and airfields all over the place because obviously the world tried to fight the outbreak with anything they had." so yeah, finding military weapons would be absolutely unrealistic! geez..I really cant see where the problem is; just look at ..well *every* movie with a dangerous global virus outbreak/alien attack/supernatural danger. What is the first thing getting shipped there? Legions of soldiers armed to the tits to "suppress" the threat. Looking beyond established fiction, in a world.. - where people fire mortars over walls at their neighbours(im not talking about country im talking about yard neighbours)because they have different beliefs - where children are armed and trained to kill for their stupid leaders deranged ideals -where nuclear weapons of mass destructions are built to threaten someone else to not annihilate oneself with nuclear weapons of mass destruction do you really think there would NOT be a massive pooling of weaponry in places hit by something like the DayZ-Plague? ps: This is a rethorical question. So anyone saying that the best way to make DayZ more authentic 1) is completely against established fiction (books/movies/comics/graphic novels) 2) is completely against the most logical assumption that a military warfare infrastructure would be established in outbreak hotspots What does that mean? The first thing I can think of is, that you want others to play the game you want them to. I would love to have that made edible to me, because right now it tastes like shit.

Latest "patches" not really fixing key issues?
Sinoby replied to kicktd's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree with you, Kicktd, on the point, that some issues really break the game like tents/vehicles. But for these stage of development it is better to have them in and try to find a way to find possible bugs and fixes for them before it goes standalone. You see - community has found lots of ways to exploit them now, not later. I can not call this mod a real alpha, because, as it stands now - it will not become beta. It is more of proof of concept for future product. You, as developer, should understand it. -
Keep in mind that pretty much all of these are are less than a couple minutes, I will make a note of any longer ones if you want to make sure you have time before watching them. Please let me know of any broken links, or missing videos. I'm subbed to Guidez, so I'll try and have any new videos I see him post up as soon as possible. A big thanks to Guidez for putting all these together for Day Z players. Usually, when im out screwing around, i find a couple of vehicles, that being said, most of the time, im either out alone, or, have found a huge cache of vehicles. It would be nice to say, hook a trailer up on a truck and tow the vehicles away, or, maybe tow a boat, even better, link the vehicle up to a helicopter.

Server-side Hotfix 0.7.2, Helicopter status and server info
Vittek replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I'm admin on 2 german servers, both running the latest HIVE vers and beta patch, yet: The vehicle inventory resets every server restart, the vehicles themself save fine. And the chopper also despawns every server restart. We fixed it now 5 times! So much fun! Not. -
hey whatsup guys. alright to put it kinda simply we are somewhere between 5 or 8 strong in count (lost count cause some people have been off) and well the core group of us plays A LITTLE too much dayz...seriously. so if you want to kill people on sight and hopefully become established enough to get vehicles and a functioning camp up, just hit me on skype. skype name is matt.gluckman PS. We can be mature and serious in a serious situaation but if we are traveling or just messing we are gonna be pretty crazy.just a warning.

LU150 ADMIN!? Not Playing Fair? Please RESPOND D1rtyD3vil!
heyitscody replied to heyitscody's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Ok, D3vil I do apologize, I made this post out of complete rage. Ignore rpilmore because he is new to the group. We enjoy the server and hope you continue keeping it up. Hopefully no one is using scripts to there advantage and we hope to find our vehicles again. From now on this is a friendly dayz war between us and the people who initially stole the vehicles. -
Why break what wasn't broken?
Fraggle (DayZ) replied to -SA-Vanguard's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This testing phase is being used to try different mechanics and ideas. Things will come, things will go. Just because respawning has been removed doesn't mean it'll stay that way. They want to see what effect it has on player behaviour. Sandbags and wire fences were put in purely to see how people acted with them and what patterns emerged. Also, you do know that vehicles can't be stored off the map any more right? If I want one I just go and find one of their camps. It's easier than fixing it up yourself and is usually full of top end gear. -
What is the point to DayZ, if not to kill players?
Izziee replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Will you and everyone stop with trying to tell people how to play their game, how it's meant to be played, what should be done, what you think the point is, why people should do this and do that and how this is bullshit and that is unfair and whatever other bollocks people want to try and decide for others? Sure, you're asking what the point is, but at the same time, trying to debate that there isn't one other than to hunt players. The point of this game is what THAT PERSON MAKES IT. It's a SANDBOX game, sandbox games you need to make your own enjoyment. If someone want's to kill on sight, that's up to them, if someone wants to survive and stay out the way, that's up to them, if someone wants to go exploring, see how long they can live, horde a ton of vehicles, get the best equipment or whatever the fuck else - THAT'S UP TO THEM. As long as THEIR the ones having fun with THEIR game, give a fuck what anyone else thinks. So in short: The point is what ever you want the point to be. No one will ever dictate to me how I should enjoy MY game/- 101 replies

Tents still duping/losing items 1.7.1.5
kicktd replied to kicktd's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Tents will be back after next server restart. Happens on my home server from time to time after the daily restart the tents/vehicles will be gone until the next restart. Very annoying but eh what can ya do, the "it's alpha!!!!!" squad just jumps in at any bug report so why bother even reporting things anymore? Seems the major issues just go ignored or get bombarded by "it's alpah!!!!" posts. And I also agree with ya. The zombies when I first started playing were a threat because I didn't know how to handle them, now that I've been playing for a good bit every time I see a zombie I just sigh because I know it's no real threat which really takes the whole zombie/infected survival aspect of this game away and just makes it yet another FPS with zombies thrown in for the hell of it in its current state. -
What is the point to DayZ, if not to kill players?
VaultDweller (DayZ) replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I said this over 100 times. It rly goes down to your personal prefrence. Go bandit , stay survivor or go bandit hunter. The game rly isnt about ,,killing other players,, The game tests you mentaly and eventualy (as i see) breaks you. You collect everything you need and you get overwhealmed by FPS experiance. Need for killing other players. The game is hardcore and incredibly challanging as we know it. But to make it even more challenging you coud simply stay on a ,,good,, side by helping others. Yes it adds even more challange, precation and determenations but that is the point of the game. If i see a bandit going for a ,,noob kill n loot,, il simply blast his head off before he kill the ,,fresh meat,, Or get some new friends, continue surviving, repair vehicles...
