attrition, to fight the loot inflation
Quazil replied to Noobishtactic's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Pointless at this stage of the game, there are a 1000+ more pressing issues. Weapons are useless without ammo. There is already loss built into the game because you are rather limited in what you can carry, vehicles are massive targets and get destroyed (so their cargo is destroyed), and you can hide bodies. I'm not saying the hacking isn't rampant, but you don't need to be a hacker to create an unlimited supplies of gear with the tent & hive issues. So there is no good reason to hack in gear that is part of the game. You just need 1 of them and some patience. Since "everyone" puts camps in similar locations, you can just keep stealing from each other and the loot spirals out of control. A solution to this problem "right now" would be frequent hive wipes until tent-duping can be fixed or remove tents from the game. Since this is Alpha and not a supported game that we pay for, they should not do any extra work that deviates them in the slightest from reaching Beta then Gold. -
All players with vehicles are hackers?
Bearded McGee replied to CrimsonRisk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There's two type of players I hate. People who steal the vehicles I've painstakingly repaired and hidden in a bush out of the way. And People who hide vehicles out of the way and leave them there. Heck, even worse are the people who hold not one, but MANY vehicles. Even the frikkin' bikes are hidden in bushes. Now, if there was a few bikes per townlet, it would be okay. But you can forget about ever finding one. Only once did I find a vehicle in a "legitimate" way. it was the car that had been stolen from me a day prior (all of my stuff was still in it). It was hidden, badly, in a bush near the road west of where I had been killed. Surely enough, I found the camp a north-east from the UAZ. There was a quad, a bus and a bike. Damaged the quad's engine, stole the bike (and dropped it a bit further south in a bush) and placed my three bear-traps around the bus, one directly near the entry-door. Illegitimately, I've asked around for the cords of old bicycles a few times. I prefer ridding a bike. Really, I'd up the bike spawn rate by a few factor and have them respawn every few server restarts so new players actually have a chance of finding one. -
There are ways to dramatically change the meta-game in the right direction that would probably require less effort than adding and balancing dogs. For instance, adding skills to survivors that give minor bonuses, such as medical skills (maybe it takes less time to transfuse, bandage, morphine, and epi, and there's a chance that the item is not consumed when used), or engineering skills (same deal but for repairing vehicles). I actually have a whole set of ideas for skills that could be developed with very little work. These accomplish many of the goals of improving meta-game in meaningful ways; you may not want to kill someone if they're a good doctor or mechanic because their skills can be valuable to you as well if you team up. This encourages player interaction and provides a great reason to avoid death other than having to gear up again. There should be 2 kinds of skill ranks for each skill; theoretical and practical. Theoretical skill ranks would unlock new actions, such as applying morphine and transfusing, while practical skill ranks would improve the ability to perform those actions (quickness of action, chance of not consuming item used, and reduction in critical failure chance, for example). This would come with the addition of new items to the game: skillbooks. Reading skillbooks would increase theoretical skill, allowing players to gain access to new actions easily and quickly by obtaining and reading skillbooks, or being taught by players who already have the theoretical skill level (new player interaction, nice?). For balance reasons, skill books might need to be consumed upon use (otherwise you could just stockpile 1 of each and skill out at a tent). Practical skill levels will be gained by performing the actions, and will be given skill-gain bonuses if supervised by an already skilled player. This fixes a lot of problems I believe many players are having with the meta-game; not much meaning to survival, little player interaction besides shooting/healing each other, very little reason to think before shooting another player, general boredom once geared, etc. Potential Skills: Hunting - alters use of bear traps or other potential traps you could set, in adition to allowing more meat from gutting animals, also possible tracking skill. Medical - alters use of medical items and gives a chance to not consume medical items upon use. Also, if infection from wounds is added, could alter treatment of or prevention of infections. Engineering - alters amount of parts required to fix vehicles, and allows repairing in the first place. If scavenging is introduced, will increase amount of scavenged material from cars and whatnot. Aerobics - slightly increases run speed and ability to run without getting tired (very slightly). Swimming - slightly increases swim speed (should up swim speed anyway, it's preposteriously slow). I also will propose a crafting system to swing us away from simply looting powerful guns and going and killing people with them (making the game basically a deathmatch) and towards small arms, ammo management, and need to scavenge for parts to create weapons and ammo. This will be in another thread. Obviously, skills related to crafting would be added for that as well, and should follow a similar overall design. I also suggest weapon durabilities with an additional repair or maintainance skill, but I will save those for the crafting thread.

I was playing on US 2851 and repaired the bus in cherno and drove it up to the southern airfield. I'm too tired to take it any further so I'm leaving it here for whoever wants it. Also vehicles are saving on this server so enjoy! :)

How are you guys keep your newly trading gear with Tents and Vehicles not saving all the time? or am I missing something? you can't be packing all this gear on person ALL the time right?

Tired of stuff disappearing. Recommend good server?
taffer posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My favorite server went bye-bye and I'm having a crap time trying to find a new favorite. Normally I just get stuck on the loading screen for an eternity and have to quit the process to try another one. Some servers run like garbage. We finally find a server we can all agree on. My friends and I have some fun playing like normal. You know, looting towns, killing zombies, placing tents here and there, collecting loot, finding/fixing vehicles. This goes on for days. Then we get lucky finding camps. So we take what we want and crush the tents, but the very next day our stuff will disappear. Our stuff being our own tents all around the server and our vehicles too. Each day we check again to see if a server restart puts things back to normal, but no it doesn't. This has happened twice now with two different servers. The very same story. Tents in different places throughout the map. Vehicles hidden (as well as they can be anyway) here and there. Everything saves and works just great for days and days. Eventually, me and mine get lucky and find camps loaded with fantastic stuff. We take this stuff and crush the tents. The next day we get on to play, everything all over the server is gone. Can somebody just help me stop being paranoid and tell me these really are just coincidences? It's not like we ruin an admin's fun and he has the power to reset everything right? It's just DayZ being stupid AFTER I collect a ton of great stuff right? This has happened twice now with two different servers; one of which actually went offline for a good while after we had our fun. Of course everything was gone when it came back. I'm not just being full of myself here. I can consider the possibility that our stuff just happened to be stolen and crushed as well, but these are scattered in nicely hidden places all over the map. Heck, even other tents that we leave alone to check on disappear. So we've become paranoid about the servers because our stuff will save and work fine for days. It's when we find other people's nice stuff that things tard out. The very next day/server restart, everything will be gone. Can somebody recommend a great server to play on? I'm on East Coast USA (GMT-5). I hear a lot about private hives and whatever. Can somebody point me in a good direction here? I'm starting to lose interest in the game. -
New Server US 1378 Active Admin
Nice Guy Led replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
As of right now we have updated to the most recent patch and we are fairly confident that it has 'fixed' the tents and vehicles on the server. We have done one restart so far and it looks like it's actually working. Please feel free to let us know if it's not working correctly so we can look further into it. steam - ledesimus skype - ledesimus1 -
Maybe a hacker? I heard of hackers who don't show on player list. Or as Novac suggested, it was a very, very small piece of rock or rubble. Vehicles are super bugged.

Respawn at the beach and gear loss
kevinyoki2 replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Honestly. I'm tired of this shit. This happens once daily for me. And you can guess it just happened a few minutes ago as well. I gather all my gear so meticulously and tediously only to lose it all the next time I log in. Not exaggerating, this happens to 20% of the servers I join. I have to cross my fingers every time. I hop servers sometimes to avoid lag (which is another issue in itself), and even on my favorite servers this happens. I'm officially quitting this poor excuse of a game until all of these countless game-breaking glitches are repaired (the tents and vehicles too. what a joke. no wonder everyone dm's) which is probably not for a long while as their efforts are now diverted to developing the standalone game. I feel like a total sucker for buying arma just for dayz, and believe me I am. Don't get me wrong this game was fun when I was actually playing with my friends and not staring at the loading screen, but when it daily takes away the fruits of hours of scavenging, I feel compelled to flip my shit by the fifth time I spawn dead in a week. I've lost all patience. I know this game's in alpha but at least have some functionality that's promised in the damn game description. by the way I did not have a ghillie suit Also the funny thing is that all of my deaths in the past week are due to this issue. It's almost like it's a feature of the game, having a chance to spawn dead for added difficulty. Besides all the other absolutely ridiculous ways to kill yourself with menial tasks like opening a gate, standing on a rock, or walking around in narrow spaces. Actually getting shot and killed seems so alien to me now. The objective of this game should be: "see how long you can survive until you randomly lose all your shit. then start over." -
Derp Dayz (Private, 1.7.2.6 - 96548, Whitelist)
[email protected] replied to guidez's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
This is the only server I will play on. Excellent load times(15-30 seconds maximum) As a US user I usually range from 20-70 ping, with never having ever seen a yellow or red chain. Full daylight so I can play whenever I want, and great spawn times on vehicles. I am so sold. -
All players with vehicles are hackers?
SystemiK replied to CrimsonRisk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You are playing the wrong patch. Vehicles are working and saving just fine on 1.7.2.4. Why everyone is still using (and bitching about) Hotfix 1.7.2.5 when it broke vehicles and did not even fix the glitches it was released to address is beyond me. 1.7.2.4 is the only way to go until we can see how much 1.7.3 breaks. -
All players with vehicles are hackers?
Jollibee replied to CrimsonRisk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lol all vehicle owners are hackers. . . . Im a solo player and most of my game time is to find a vehicles fix them and hide them in my camp sites. I remember at one point I had 5 bicycles, 1 bus, 1 pbx, 2 offroad pickup, 3 atv, and a Ural spread out in 3 camps in case one gets raided. Ive found choppers too but I usually just blow them up since I dont know how to pilot them. I play on a mid pop server where on day time there's 20-30 people online. I do agree finding parts can be time consuming but you dont have to fully repair a vehicle to drive it. All you need is to do is put the missing tires and a jerry can to fuel it then you drive it to your secured camp. From there, you can take your time finding the other parts. The new version 1.7.2.5 is a bit broken atm since vehicles tend to respawn where it was last found broken so if your really fixated on finding a vehicle and keeping it long term i would suggest playing on 1.7.2.4 or older servers. -
can someone give me a list of vehicles that actually save?
MattTheMont replied to JacksApple's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
yeah same, i can also save vehicles on multiple different servers no problem... but then again I've never had a single artifacting issue either. who knows -
All players with vehicles are hackers?
agippo replied to CrimsonRisk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
With regular server resets it isvery difficult (as you have noticed) to find a vehicle, source all the parts and get it running in the time avalible. If your really keen on getting a vechile up, i suggest the following actions : 1) get a team of like minded people to assit you. 2) Try to hit up servers that have recently restarted to give you the maximum amount of time 3) get to know the likely vehicle locations and check them out 4) if your not afraid of a little exploit cheating you can get yourself into a location close to a regular vehicle spawn point and then server jump until you find a server where the vehicle has appeared. 5) Collect everything you need to fix the vehicle and hold it on your character (and your teammates characters). DO NOT half fix vehicles. As you will no doubt be aware, if you get a sudden restart you will lose all the work you have done. At least by holding onto the parts if you lose the vehicle, you still have your collection of parts. Our group managed to fix a heli in around 30 minutes once as we were all holding most of the parts required in our inventories already. Good luck. -
All players with vehicles are hackers?
CrimsonRisk replied to CrimsonRisk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To the people saying I just suck: You're missing the point. This isn't the first time I've spent HOURS fixing up a vehicle only to have it reset to completely damaged state the next time I came back. I have wasted DAYS of my life on these little "fix up a car solo" missions. In fact, I can honestly say that I have NEVER had a car NOT reset on me. I have NEVER had the satisfaction of COMPLETELY fixing a car and driving away in it. Not once. I've been playing for months, and I might as well say that fixing vehicles is basically the entire point of the game to me, for how often I attempt it. I don't understand. What am I doing wrong? How come other people can get vehicles and not me? I know a lot of people are doing it legitimately. I've played with them before. I want to know how I can, too. -

We have a White Hilux on our server that we've named the Buddha Truck because it occasionally sticks around after a restart, or some other vehicle we have before a restart morphs into a Hilux after the restart but generally only this one vehicle seems to have any semblance of normality and....it seems to be dealing with a lot of quantum temporal instability in regards to where it shows up, or why...but it generally shows up. Also for more interesting vehicle stuff 3 bikes in a warehouse = motorcycle after a restart Bus almost always = Bike after restart GAZ = ATV after restart But not always in that specific combonation...and, only in the Bus/Bike case, will you find the Bike in the exact position the Bus was in before the restart, the other situations are something akin to alchemy or magic, not sure why they happen, but put the right components together and you transmute them into something else with a server restart.....just they usually end up parked in an entirely different place in the area your original vehicle/vehicles were parked. Weird stuff, funny, but, getting somewhat tiresome too. -
i have a group of three singaporean players looking for a server which can save vehicles after server restart. we looking to find more buddies ingame too. importantly we looking for a stable server.

Inception. replied to JacksApple's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't actually think, on most servers that are up on 1.7.2.5, that any vehicle actually saves. On few servers save vehicles, most of which don't actually restart [the restart on most servers causes the vehicles to be reset]. If you're looking to get some vehicles on a server that actually saves, go back to 1.7.2.4. That's what I did, and its a lot of fun being able to fly a chopper for a few days. -

Where did you get your weapon (AKA how bad is loot inflation)?

Dobrry hill above electro. Always someone there with 50cal to kill, all ya need is a lee Enfield. Then head north looking for vehicles and invariably find tent for mk48 or some other assault rifle. -
Nice to read something from you in person Rocket! I'm sure your life has changed dramatically, at least the professional one. But yes, you deserve all the attention you get, after all your idea has been nothing less than game industry changing. At least for the mmo survival horror/zombies games, but i suspect it goes further than that. What we missed was the sense of close community we had b4. Meaning you being on the forums at least once a week to tell us what your vision for the future was or even venting to us how hard your coding job was to implement what you had in mind. We are a though crowd, but no doubt but we still respect you and what you are trying to do. And we support you too by keep on loving to play a mod that, I'm afraid to say, has probably reached the end of the line. You can't say that and i understand completely why. But let's face it, arma2 is a very community/modding friendly game that is appropriate for a small community. Since this mod has gone berserk the game has been ruined by cheaters and hacker and there is nothing atm that can be done anymore. More and more people are posting cheats like dayznavigator and such that can be compiled in less than 30 minutes to have all sort of advantages. Tbh I'm still playing the mod but i don't care about updates anymore. I want a very closed up stand alone game now. What the fuck is about the memory readings not being encrypted for example?? A friend of mine made his own exe with which he knows were all vehicles and players are on the map at any given moment. He has to alt tab to check those things, because they don't appear on the ingame map but still, no way to detect him cause he's not injecting or altering anything. He just reads. A few times i played with him, we notice the number of players teleporting themselves or spawning vehicles or weapons was about 35% of any given server. Make the standalone super closed, encrypt memory and fuck the modding chaps if this is the only way to survive. Right now is out of control. I'm sure you know all this already but i still felt the urge to write it down.
