There are 3 airfields in Chernarus, but I wouldn't like to try landing a plane on any of them! An unarmed VTOL would be cool, but useless. (would still park it up for bragging rights) Civilian helicopters should be introduced though. The way it is now, there's always one group with a chopper, and it usually never sees the light of day because they're afraid to lose it! It would be better overall if more vehicles could be repaired, so that nobody could monopolize the transport on the map,
  2. A friend snitching on his friend? *Facepalm* Are there any smart hackers? You know.. the ones that DON'T TP people or script in weapons or vehicles NOT in Day Z? Cause ones that just give themselves the best equipment doesn't necessarily ruin the game.
  3. This depends on the server. Some private servers run a script which creates an invisible barrier that destroys you and your vehicle if you leave the map. Others run a script that cleans all the vehicles from outside the map at server restart.
  4. I'm pretty tired of putting items into a vehicle, and having to count or estimate how many item/weapon slots it has left, and if it overloads, having the items deleted or strewn over the ground. SOLUTION: Have player inventory on the right, and vehicle inventory on the left, showing how many item/weapon slots are availible, and what items are currently in those slots. Exactly like the player inventory, just for vehicles. Thankyou.
  5. Ok, so tents seem to be working on most servers I play on. Vehicles are even working (well the 3 I have found anyway). The problem I am having is I have set up a decent camp with a bunch of gear on several different servers and 3 or 4 servers have just vanished from the list never to be seen again. The last server that I have a camp set up on now has not had a reset in about 5 days, which scares me and makes me think it too will vanish. Anyway, is there a way to see how long a server will be around for? Or how long it has been around? I am tired of losing gear NOT due to the alpha conditions, but due to servers vanishing.
  6. i agree with some of the sentiments of the OP. I think this game has a really cool forumula that hopefully companies like bethesda will rip off of and make a game like this set in the fallout universe where its actually hard to surive and be a consistant world in which multiplayer can get down, + quests n such. but untill then we have to deal with this. To me this games genre is in its infancy theres some really cool stealable ideas this game has and its only a matter of time till some other company makes it great. i also played ultima online i was on one of the german shards, tho when i was playin it i didnt have a fkin clue what i was doin, id just get lost in the forest lol and get raped by a lizardman. this game lacks the force to drive the player to do something that isnt PvP, as its a sandbox game, except theres no sand just a mass of players on a lifeless map that spawns zombies without any goals except to, kill other players or log off from sheer boredom. the game requires some aspect that will motivate the player to do or achieve something other than repairing vehicles to horde in a forest or shooting people on a hill in elektro I did my first game of sniper hill today, i got this probably hacked in guy as50TWS it was pretty enjoyable tbh.
  7. Yes, our server is still looking for people to fill certain roles. We have quite a few survivors who fly solo or band together with other survivors... There are a few mercenary types who have formed a clan along with our server's home clan BBF. This makes currently two clans on the server and we are looking for more! We could really use some bandit-oriented players/clans to make make our survivors a little more fearful when traveling about. Our members and community is ever growing with players who enjoy playing Day Z the hard way... No handicaps and no safe zones... No gimmicks and no easy buttons.... You want tons of vehicles so that earning one doesn't even feel like a accomplishment? Look elsewhere... Want safe zones so you can farm in peace? Look elsewhere... Want everyone to be carebears and come to your rescue for nothing? look elsewhere... Our server rewards those who enjoy a difficult survival challenge... We are not all heartless bandits and killers who shoot on sight... but we do not try to force people to play any certain way here. You want to be a bandit? be one... Just remember our policy here on this server... Every action has a consequence... Good or bad... You build a reputation here.. This is not some server you log into once and never come back to... This is home to many players now, and many of them have already made names for themselves as either trustworthy saviors or bloodthirsty killers... Mercs for hire, etc... So I invite all players who enjoy a realistic approach to Day Z through amping up the difficulty and throwing you into a harsh world with unforgiving settings to sign up with our community and join in the fun... Come make a name for yourself. And all our current players: Keep the feedback coming!
  8. This idea has become offical. Find more details @ http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/96467-the-last-resistance-tvt-rpg-whitelist/ Well guys, I have a nice little lingor server, and I want to do something interesting. Basically, the idea is to split the map in half. One team gets the west siide, the other team gets the east, If you look here http://dayzdb.com/map/lingor#3.049.035 it'll be basically split at 044. You'll pick the team you want to go on, and you CAN switch later if you find out that you hate your teams guts, but the other teams faction would have to accept you. Once you choose a faction, you really need to stick to it. So, instead of simply worrying about zombies and the random 'Tag you're it' player, you need to start worrying about boundaries, organized team strikes, etc. You'll also have a team with resources [cars, tents, etc] when you enter, so there will be both private and community tents. I feel this will bring a great amount of depth and make a great game :] A few things I want to see in this server are : Resource Hording [Gathering all the vehicles and trying to steal/destroy the enemy vehicles] Tactical Strikes [Multiple faction players gathering to attack the enemy] A few Independant organizations [Mercenary Groups, a nuetral transportation service, ETC.. These must be OK'd by me.] Trading between the factions [Weapons and such] Faction Base of Operations Hold ups/Kidnappings Faction members Helping eachother Events every now and again [A Race, a town deathmatch, ETC] What I will NOT tolerate Hacking [Obviously. I'll be reading logs and banning.] Spies [Won't deal with this bullsht. the spy AND the guy getting the info will be banned.] Battle Logging Griefing Noobs [Hold em up and ransom their ass out or leave em alone lmao.] So ya. Anyone aboard? If this gets alot of support, I'll just end up tossing a PW on the server and it'll be approval only server.
  9. This first post is now OUT OF DATE. Please see this thread for more details and another video! So, today I started a project. That project being modifying DayZ to include bug fixes for the current DayZ version as well as custom mechanics/features that I think could be interesting. Since my current DayZ server's hostname is "dayz.dieinafire.com", I'm lovingly calling this mod "DayZ DIAF" to indicate its origins. There's a lot to do still before I would consider it workable to start having people play on it. But, with the massive volume of DayZ servers out there I'm not even sure if people care about something like this. So I want to see what interest (if any) is out there. Should there be interest, this would be a whitelist only server when it's put online. Thanks goes to ayan4m1, as I'm utilizing his Private-DayZ dayz_server.pbo code and Hive system as a base for the server-side stuff. The end goal is to hopefully create a near hack-free, absolutely dupe-free and douche-free server environment with some various tweaks to mechanics. I by no means am presenting this as "this is how DayZ should be. I'm right, Rocket is wrong!". I'm just damn curious how things in DayZ's gameplay changes if I spin some dials and pull on some levers. This mod will be a living entity and core mechanics will likely change based on in-game testing and feedback. But, I need people interested in this to even possibly have the chance at some fun. If you have ideas or want to play on the box once I have an initial baseline up and running, let me know. I'd love to have this thing capped out and running a full community at some point. But, this thread could also slip into the ether because everyone thinks I'm an idiot for doing this. Let's find out, shall we? Video of Current Changes: Current Changes: [ Bug Fixes ] * Fixes of original DayZ bugs * - It is no longer possible to drink without consuming the drink item - It is no longer possible to eat without consuming the food item - It is no longer possible to pitch a tent without consuming the tent item - It is no longer possible to switch clothes (ghillie/camo) without consuming the clothing - It is no longer possible to build hedgehogs/sandbags/catwire without consuming the item - It is no longer possible to use medical items without consuming the item - It is no longer possible to generate infinite full water bottles at water sources - Switching skins no longer repairs pain shakes and broken legs - Switching skins no longer resets your backpack to an old pack - Switching skins no longer potentially dupes your backpack - Switching skins no longer refills ammo - Switching skins now properly remembers your currently wielded weapon vs. swapping to the one you had earliest obtained. [ Anti-Douche Bag Changes ] + Introduced the base mechanic of stopping ALT-F4 / combat logging. The "Combat" system. If you fire at somebody or have someone firing bullets near you (they don't have to hit you) then both such players go into "Combat". For testing, this duration is 30 seconds and has an indicator. The "Abort" option is blocked while in combat. If you disconnect for ANY reason while in combat (such as ALT-F4) I can have the server retaliate. Potential plans is to insta-kill the player and spawn a corpse with their loot in their place. This should eliminate combat logging entirely. [ Vehicle Changes ] + MH-6J (Littlebird) added as a pure transport helicopter (Can't wait for these to be buzzing around!). [ Backpack Changes ] - Backpacks are no longer capable of holding any weapons. This attempts to force squads to form and individuals to take on speicalized roles with their weapon choice vs. carrying weapons for all situations on every person. [ Starter Items ] - No longer start with any backpack. Not only does this force you to stay near towns a bit longer, but it makes that little 4 slot vest pouch actually something people might pick up and use! [ Item Removals ] - "Flashlight" removed (Everyone spawns with one... so why have it use up a loot spawn chance?) - Satchel charges removed (The cool factor is hampered by the douche bag factor) - One battle rifle removed * FN FAL AN/PVS-4 - All silenced weaponry removed * M9 SD * MP5 SD * M4A1 CCO SD * Bizon SD - All sniper rifles removed * CZ 550 * M24 * DMR * M14 AIM * SVD Camo * M107 * AS50 - All ammo exclusive to the removed weaponry has been removed * M9 SD Ammo * MP5 SD Ammo * STANAG SD Ammo * CZ 550 Ammo * M24 Ammo * DMR Ammo * M107 Ammo * SVD Dragunov Mag ( AS50/SVD/Bizon Ammo doesn't naturally spawn anyway outside of with its weapon) [ Helicopter Crash Loot ] Revamped loot table. The only Helicopter Crash "exclusive" loot is now the FN FAL and L85A2 AWS. - Removed Bizon SD - Removed M14 AIM - Removed FN FAL AN/PVS-4 - Removed M107 - Removed AS50 - Removed DMR + Added Rangefinders + Added GPS + Added M4A1 HOLO + Added M16A4 ACOG Planned Changes: [ Anti-Hack ] * Anti-teleport logic * Anti-godmode * Disabling of all non-legit guns from even functioning * Disabling of all non-legit vehicles from even functioning [ Anti-Douche Bag ] * Prevent players/vehicles/tents/etc. from going into debug plains. Stay in the map! [ Changes from stock Private Hive code ] * Have vehicles spawn with proper base loot in their gear like standard DayZ does * Have the option at least to have consistently damaged vehicles like standard DayZ does * Provide caps per-vehicle vs. overall vehicle cap [ Changes from stock DayZ code ] * Permit forcing certain vehicle types to be force respawned after X time regardless of use (anti-hoard, keeps new vehicles coming!) [ Bug Fixes ] * Need to clean up the current anti-tent/vehicle gear dupe. I don't like the current method from stock Private-DayZ. * Either stop the gun from trying to go into a bag or make sure it drops to the ground otherwise. Will need testing. [ Up in the air considerations ] * It sounds hilariously cruel to spawn a blackhawk (either with or without weapons.. not sure) as a single spawn point right in the middle of NWAF's runway. Wouldn't that be a bitch to repair successfully and take? I'd also force its respawn at some interval regardless of its use so the "Blackhawk at NWAF" is always a looming reward. * Thinking of adding some sort of "Crashed Heli" equivalent for newbies on the coast. Either crashed vans or something like that exclusively along the south coast which contains a high chance of low quality gear (ALICE packs, tools, other low-end stuff) (I'll update the list as I remember more... it's late)

  12. YouTube Video Trailer: Being Edited Website in construction Last Resistance There's only us and the dead. We survive this by pulling together, not apart. We're surrounded by the Dead. We're among them -- and when we finally give up we become them! If Man does not stand together then we are lost. We have to fight back and liberate Chernarus from the dead, together. We are The Last Of The Resistance. Why we want more: The Last Resistance that consists of more then just the six guy's above is a mature an more older group of players seeking more. Reasons so is because Arma/DayZ can be enjoyed more with other's, more laughs, more fun and to be more serious give us more options to change the way we play. We do encourage older and mature player that are in there 18+ area to join. We do not have a problem with age, we have had members who are younger be an issue but it's not the case. Being of a younger age you will feel out of place, jokes you may not get and don't like the way we play. With more people in The Resistance we can in DayZ do more and be more safe. The Last Resistance is strictly looking for more casual players. We play for fun, laughs and a good time. You don't play video games to stress out and be angry at other's for no reason. The Last Resistance is a place where you can make friends. Guy's who can help and support you, chatting. New to the game or not Last Resistance will help you out no matter. We survive by pulling together, no apart. DayZ: The day the infected came to Chernarus and chaos had struck turning everyone against each other Last Resistance was formed. Players in DayZ whom where all at the beginning alone and had to fend for themselves. Now we all play together as a group, working together, helping other survivors and each other. Never playing alone. We shoot other's when we feel threatened only. As a group the Last Resistance uses there tents in a different way then making camps. Same with vehicles. The Server The Last Resistance is on will not be posted on this thread for the time being. We are a group of guy's not the military with a rank structure. In game if you have a plan and we all agree we do it. We don't follow one man like a lost dog. There's one person who organising things, myself. In a group like ours, when you all get to know each other you no longer fight, argue. We work together. How people should. Other game: We have found ourselves doing much more in Arma lately. It's a huge world and it should be explored by other players in DayZ. Scenarios, there's so many out there, CityLife and much more. Some have exchanged Origin account names an may play BF3 with each other to pass time. We play DayZ allot but there's allot of fun out there in Arma and we have been exploring it. We are a group of guy's playing for fun and to have a good time; not playing serious Completed Goals: Establish Home Server: We have our very own server (North American Server) Obtain Vehicles: Done Base and Base of operation: Done Help Survivors and Eliminate all Bandit Threats: Always needs doing Website: In Construction Banning Hackers: Always doing You don't have to be alone surviving in Chernarus. 13. I play on this server regularly and I have to say with it being on merc difficulty the only thing I miss is the ability to make way points on the map. If you are worried about not being able to get gear or a ride then don't worry there are several vehicles that have not been claimed so they are fair game. If you are not sure if you will like it just sign up (only takes a couple minutes) and try out the server. If you find that it isn't for you no problem you don't have to stay.
  14. v0.1.2 is out. The server is coming down in 1 minute for the update. Get the link in the OP or dayz.dieinafire.com As I was uploading the completed ZIP I realized I forgot about the Hatchet ammo thing. And there's more I wanted to fix but I couldn't get to by the end of this evening. I'll probably have another update this weekend (perhaps with a new feature). This should be fixed in v0.1.2 which is going out in 1 minute. Let me know if it's not. I haven't look into six updater. Does it permit folks to contribute to it? I shall look into it. I wouldn't mind if DayZ Commander supported it. But I somehow doubt he'd add in support for a mod that's run on a single server ;) EDIT: Oh, and there has been a refresh of vehicles since you guys apparently love blowing them up and crashing them. Pay no mind that I crashed an Ikarus and UH-1H the first day the server was up. EDIT2: Request for feedback! I didn't have sufficient time to wait around for an hour or so and verify that medical boxes and backpacks are still able to spawn on top of loot piles (and vice versa). It should work, but I at least made sure the boxes/bags were spawning. If someone can please let me know the moment you see a bag sitting in a loot pile or a medbox sitting in a loot pile, let me know.
  15. So on DayZ today I was playing with multiple people in my 'clan', we were making our way up to a encampment set up far far north on the map, as we were making it there we were looting places like Stary and NW Airfield, one of the people in the squad had to log out and the other was brutally killed by zombies in the airfield, so I was the only one left. I eventually made it to the camp, and another friend logged in and he was already at the camp, so we were going out to get the ATV that he lost to the east, he was riding on the tractor and I was walking so naturally I was much slower then him, needless to say he gained a couple of hundred metre's on me. So about 5 minutes later he told me he stumbled across a camp site, as I ran down and checked there was a mass amount of gear, along the lines of multiple L85 thermals, coyote backpacks, ghillies, anything you can name there was around 5 of it in the camp and also a lot of vehicles, as I was checking the tens out I see a ghillie come down around the tents, which at the time I thought was my friend, turns out it wasn't and he opened fire on sight. I was killed. After losing some of the best gear in-game I was pretty devastated, even though my friend was still up there he waited in the shadows because he dropped his primary weapon in the tractor and if he ran back he would surely die, so as he waded it out he slowly crawled towards my lifeless body, and picked up my L85 thermal, as he opened fire on my attacker so did he return fire, my friend had to run to survive, but he was hit. My friend ran about 500 metre's with this guy chasing him but he lost sight of him eventually, as my friend to refuge on a hill he was trying to spot the enemy, but then we found out he brang a friend, a lot of time passed and nothing really happened, my friend took a few shots and only hit one of them, he bled and ran but easily survived, the other enemy ran aswell, but soon enough for some reason unknown, probably after about 20 minutes they just logged out. I have no clue why but they were gone from the server, so my friend ran back down and picked up one of their cars, by then i spawned in Cap Golova, and ran to Electro and looted myself a full inventory of items. 30 minutes later my friend was here and picked me up in Solinchy, as we were heading back to their camp as they were offline we found 2 boats, and a car (luck/10), but we had to keep going, as we were planning our strategy to get in their camp, we find a Off-road Hatchback (omg), we hid the V3S Civilian and picked up the hatchback, so as we are heading to their camp some more people logged on, we weren't sure if it was all of them so we hid the hatchback so it wouldn't attract attention, we thermal sweeped their camp and found nothing, so we ran in and just for smite from killing a friendly soldier (I'm not one to shoot people in the back) we stole their UAZ and our tractor back, we drove the vehicles to a spot in the forest, and stored the tractor there, then we drove the UAZ to the hatchback and picked that up, then hid the UAZ in another forest, got the V3S and hid that in another spot, then took our hatchback into the trees and parked it there, by then we looted the cars and I picked myself up some of the best gear in the game, L85 Thermal, AS50, 6 Mags for each gun, also a backpack filled with medicals/food/water, and also a M9 SD with 6 mags, I was quite happy even though it was a pain getting back to the camp. So my question to you is, what are your payback stories and whats the best gear you've gotten?
  16. You want people to stop mindlessly deathmatching in Chero? Then you need to give players something else to do. "This game is a sandbox!" I hear people say. Yeah it's a sandbox alright, one big empty sandbox. What exactly is there left to do in the game after I've made the journey north for the Nth time? I spend an hour or two getting my character tooled up with sweet military loot and then I do...what exactly? Go look for a vehicle? To what end? I get miltary loot and a vehicle so I can... get more military loot and vehicles. What's the point? Once you been to the airfield a few times, found a few crashed hellies and fixed up a couple of vehicles you've experienced everything the game has to offer. THERE. IS. NOTHING. LEFT. TO. DO. IN. THIS. MOD. May as well take my nifty military gear and go shoot people and where am I going to find people? Cherno. Elektro. Give me ONE reason why I shouldn't shoot everyone I encounter on sight. There is honestly not one single reason why I shouldn't just kill every single player I come across because there are zero negative consequences for my actions.
  17. So I love Dayz but right now its really just a race to end game gear then what? be bored maybe drive around a little get a good spot and snipe someone that's walking around. This is something that even if it had a lot of support probably would have to be added in the stand alone. An Idea could be to add trade skills, professions, and your passed life pre Zombie apocalypse to the game for example you spawn in you get a small window that reads (Select what your character was doing per-apocalypse) Mechanic Gun Smith Medic Ex-convict Police Officer (Make a suggestion for other things these are just some I doodled down on my way home from work today) Now before your read all that I want people to know once you pick something it doesn't mean your stuck with that role maybe you could find a book of automotive repair and read it therefore you are now skilled in lets say medicine and a little in car repair. So maybe the only way to be able to start a new skill along with your current is to find the book which will be pretty rare since the spawn can be quite low (maybe because the temperature and exposure to whether effects ruined a lot of the books) However I'm currently unsure whether dieing in game would reset your skills or you could choose to carry them over. I'm currently leaning towards carrying over mostly because people would be to afraid to approach someone in town and risk getting killed and lose their characters knowledge. However on the other hand if everyone spawned new and had no current experience then they wouldn't be so afraid to die since their is no work in their character thus this would allow players to meet people and slowly build a trusting group therefore leading to a more competitive end game experience with groups of players roaming around instead of a clan here a clan there and a lonely guy with a sniper rifle. Mechanic: (Could repair vehicles easier possibly jury rig something until necessary parts arise) Gun Smith (If guns ever have condition issues he could possibly repair them with scrap) Medic (Could help heal bones possibly use bandage and wood to make a splint and a crutch) Ex-convict (more of the lone wolf/bandit person feels much less remorse for doing bad things such as killing and stealing) Police Officer (Increased accuracy with guns (good for bandits but also heroes)) A good way to increase your characters skill would be finding books Dev team could possibly add a library so its another building to loot or the player could just do what their chosen role is best at. (Book of medicine) - Spawns inside hospitals (Guide to gun repair) - spawn inside Industrial places (Guide to Automotive repair) - also spawns in industrial factories (How to handle weapons for dummies) - military loot spawns maybe rarer spawns in civilian places (Memoirs of a madman)- Spawns in civilian spawns but perhaps dev's could add a jail house that could have the prisoners diaries. I think that maybe lower levels should sustain lower things such as Gun smith that just spawn cant repair an AS50 right away without a high risk of botching something and breaking the gun Medic that just spawned cant treat a shattered leg without a high risk of making it worse and possibly severing an artery cause the player to bleed to death. Police officer cant handle the big guns right away (obviously would be one of the easier classes to use since all you have to do is shoot but maybe if they added some of the zombie suggestions this character could be better) Mechanic's cant just find a car and repair the engine without the necessary high risk of completely disabling the car (maybe a more seasoned mechanic could fix this but only them) Ex-Convicts (im not to sure what theirs could be) maybe they could have a small insanity factor they would worry about their family if they had one but after awhile they could just kill people or go find a book and come to terms with it and use the rage against others. (leave a suggestion) I think this would possibly give more of an incentive to group up with people, However you would be unable to see what roll they pick that way if someone is following a group they wont be able to just pick off their medic they'll maybe have to track them and watch them and see which one is which. So it will also give more of a thrill for bandits to kill someone instead of now where it's "oh look there's some one *bam* *bam* done" and then they just move on. This would possibly help curb death matching with players where its just "someones in the grocery store better just shoot and kill them" It may not fix this but people will probably be more cautious if they see a group of 3 guys rolling around and maybe save those bullets for something else other than a Mexican stand off and try to talk the group into taking them in. If you read the entire thing which I recommend you to do before commenting just because I want this to be seriously debated and not just shot down by someone saying "No to complex" I think this is a realistic idea and makes sense that the survivors actually use knowledge from there per-apocalypse lives.
  18. You are a fool. It doesn't make any sense. If you don't cheat and you want to play in a server that condones cheating (that's what it would be), you will literally get your ass handed to you over and over because that particular server is going to be full of cheaters; think about it; you will never have tents, vehicles will always disappear, you will be washed out to sea over and over, and they will spawn on you and kill you dead... over and over. I can not see the fun in that. The only possible way to play on a server like that is to be a cheater in order to even the playing field. Brings us back full circle.
  19. As we have seen, there is rampant "hacking" in -game at the moment. Also as we've seen, everyone is a spastic and rants and raves over how rocket should fix the hacking. I'm just making this so people can get some sort of knowledge about the situation, and generally because i'm sick of every second thread being some douche whining about how BI or DayZ team should fix it. Background. Since Arma was developed, it has primarily been made as a Military Simulator. To this end BI has ALWAYS had a "Trusted client" model. Basically, players can execute any scripts they want, and freely. The game was designed to be played on such a large scale, and with the Military in mind, they made this decision. Why? So you could create your own scenarios with a click of a mouse. No need for modding or anything like that, you type up a quick script in Notepad++ and then you spawn everyone with a tank, or in helicopters, or whatever. In short, Arma 2 was never made to be a MMOFPS w/ zombies. Ever. Because of the trusting relationship the engine has with the client, this clearly leads to people abusing it. It has always been like this, since the first Arma engine. And it won't change, BI cater first and foremost to their Military contractors and the HARDCORE MilSim fans. So in the end, if you played Arma 2 at all, you'd know that most servers were passworded and you organised playing with friends or skrims on the web. Because anyone can just walk in and execute a script that say, spawn a nuke. This is where the Arma 2 engine "fails" in terms of DayZ. (Not to mention being buggy .) Then comes Battleye. But first. For UBCSRavin! More on the Arma Engine/Hive/"Untrusted" In every other game I have come across, the client is automatically UNtrusted. Basically, you're a criminal waiting to happen in the eyes of whatever engine you are on. This restricts just about everything you can do, to an extent. If we take Battlefield 3 for example, there is no way in hell, without the use of a mod, or other more nefarious means, can you spawn anything that the server doesn't already have on it. Or even any Valve game. Each game comes installed with anti-piracy/anti-tamper measures. In Valve's case, its steam and VAC. Though some steam games also use punkbuster. Because you're already untrusted, any time ANYTHING that doesn't match the server-side "rules" you are instantly banned or kicked, not to mention that the Server Admin on most other games have complete control of their servers. There is good reasoning behind DayZ teams decision to tighten up the rules in relation to hacking and such. Without them anyone could accuse someone of hacking, get them banned, probably lose their 5 hour progress. This just can't happen. Its frustrating, but there simply isn't another way, unless Rocket chooses to centralise ALL the servers, like an MMO, and completely cut out the publics involvement in the running of the servers. Seriously, name another MMO that lets you run your own server. But you don't have the ability to execute scripts or anything remotely close to that of ArmA 2 on other games. Its pretty simple, it would get abused, not to mention that coding in the ability to make scenarios (For instance - Thunderdome) on the fly is a huge undertaking. Scripts are normally executed server-side, Client-side doesn't even get to see these scripts, without the aid of certain tools. On Arma 2 however, you can execute scripts at will. It has always been BI's mission to deliver an AUTHENTIC MilSim experience with their engine. Some of the contracts they hold are huge, I would assume. If you have a look at the BI website, it show cases some of their work, most pretty dam impressive. Unless you are playing Eve, I don't think there is any games of note that actually use a HIVE system. The HIVE, if you don't know, is basically a huge SQL (assumption) database containing EVERYTHING pertaining to each players Characters. The general way I the HIVE works is this : (I'd assume there would be more steps, and it would be more complex, but then again, you never know) - Join Server, "waiting for character to create" is the server you join (Lets say ANZ1 for now) querying the main HIVE for your specific data. - Do whatever it is you are doing on ANZ1, find a weapon, get some gear, etc, Battleye is active on each DayZ server, trying to find scripts that aren't meant to be there. - Leave server. ANZ1 communicates all your gear, positioning data etc. to the HIVE. The problem with this model is that its easy to exploit. If you can circumvent Battleye, the only server-level security aloud at the moment, you are free to do what you like. So you can spawn a bunch of vehicles and weapons and the ARMA 2 engine believes that is "legal." Then when you leave it communicates all this information to the HIVE, which also trusts what the Server has to say. Why wouldn't it though? If you assume everyone is good, there is no reason to look for the bad. And we need to remember as well, Arma 2 was never made to have a persistent world. It was designed so you can run scripts, which generally make entire missions, or change the current mission on the fly. Something I'm sure would let the Military contractors stress to their users how battle can change. SCRIPTS. Just about everything in Arma 2 is run by scripts. Practically all of DayZ is one script comprised of many, many smaller scripts. Every time loot spawns. Script. Every time you spawn. Script. Zombies spawn. Script. And so on. Which leads to the system being easily abused by the less savoury types of gaming. Understanding how scripting works in relation to anti-cheat. As you know, scripts can be executed at any time, by any player on any server. Its ridiculously easy to do. That is why Battleye is here. It picks up on any "illegal" scripts being executed, the ones that don't match what is meant to be run according to the server. There is basically a whitelist of scripts that are allowed to run, and anything else results in a kick, or even a global ban. Battleye is quite efficient at DETECTING scripts that aren't aloud to be run. The problem at the moment though, isn't Battleye failing (Well, kinda) It's the fact you can use a "hook" to inject into the Client-side Battleye process and typing a few lines of code that effectively make all the scripts you execute invisible to the server log, which means you can't get kicked, banned, etc. Once they find the memory space getting "hooked" onto, they release an update and a mass ban rolls out. One happened 3 days or so ago. That is how anti-cheat and hacking work in relation to each other. Hackers create a hack, Anti-cheat responds. Mass ban. Rinse and repeat. You can never completely stop hacking, ever. There are people who simply dedicate their time as a hobby to writing hacks for games. These people you don't really need to worry about. They might hack in weapons or vehicles and so on, but their hack stays for their private use, and perhaps a few close friends. They don't intentionally, ALL THE TIME, go out of their way to ruin other peoples days, like the currently huge amount of Scripts kiddies that got a hold of a certain hack, the friendly hackers you hear about, the ones giving heli rides and gear are generally the people who write their own shit. SCRIPT KIDDIES. These are the people you see running rampant. I can 99.99% guarantee these people either downloaded a leaked private hack or bought one from one of the hacking sites that make money from spastics who want an easier game. These people go mad with power. That's why you see so many people nuking, mass teleporting and so on. Because they are 12 year olds who have access to their parents credit card. You'd generally find these people who got killed by a legit sniper and say to themselves "I want that gun, oh, better look for an easy way to get it because i'm aman with ADD and a short attention span." Basically, they are the spoilt brats of our generation who want instant gratitude. Unfortunately, the hackers who made these hacks decided to put in instant-kill and teleportation and all these other exploits that ruin everyone's day. Current scripts ruining your day - UPDATED. For more information on this look here : The Truth - A guide to surviving Hackers User Elenkel has gracefully admitted to hacking, and his experiences in relation to what scripts are out there, and how many people are actually hacking are quite eye-opening. I personally had never even heard of "Thunderdome" until he posted it. I did choose to omit certain hacks from my original post however, simply because I believe that some people may think it would actually be pretty cool to hack with all the added features. ESP (in some of the released hacks) Teleportation. (Of themselves and others) Ability to see everyone on the map. Spawning of objects, weaponry or vehicles, including those not in DayZ itself. God mode. Nuking. Give themselves full health with a single button. Disable grass. - Dunno why they would do that, maybe to see people crawling? Name Spoofing/Possible GUID spoofing. Wallhack, kind of. (Tampering with files) If any admin are reading this, you should read this post : http://dayzmod.com/f..._20#entry481304 Props to Barronism for posting it. It should fix the "wallhack" that people are abusing at the moment, its a very good fix, but i'm sure it will be patched. What can Admin or even regular players do? -Updated. First of all, if you haven't read this thread, please do : http://dayzmod.com/f...u-need-to-know/ A fantastic thread letting you know that admins aren't the ones doing this shit to you. On our side there aren't many things we can do to stop them. If you can Fraps them hacking and possibly get their names or what not, you can contact Battleye, the DayZ team or even BI with your evidence and they should get a ban, sometimes. I can't say for certain how on top of this type of reporting they are. The DayZ server hosting rules are pretty strict when it comes to banning people from your server. Therefore it is advised you don't ban anyone without the proper evidence, as you could get blacklisted. Besides, if you have no evidence the suspect will just come here and whine to the DayZ team for an unban. And if you have no evidence they have to oblige. Its not worth the hassle. Found some fantastic work from a server owner, worth looking into if you admin any server. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/39628-dayz-server-suite-name-pending-alpha002-on-pg-3/#entry377033 Huge props to PepperoniKiller. EDIT. Server admin please read. Browsing Reddit for the first time and came across this post - http://www.reddit.co...d_to_read_this/ Props to http://www.reddit.com/user/Zhoir for posting. What does Rocket have to do with anti-cheat? (And is this a DayZ problem?) First of all, aside from the HIVE database bans, Rocket + Team, as far as my knowledge goes (probably wrong :/) have nothing to do directly with the anti-cheat. At all. That is completely in Battleye's hands, not even BI itself would have anything directly to do with it. And no, they won't change their entire engine to stop scripts from being executed. A lot of people i've seen on the forum have been saying shit like : The kind of "special person" I am trying to reach out to with this post. Day Z is DEFINATELY the reason we see SO MANY skiddies in the game. ArmA 2 wouldn't be receiving any attention at all in the mainstream if it wasn't for DayZ. So thats where the influx of skiddie scum has come from. They came to play DayZ, it was too hard, or they got bored and they decided to grief everyone. But DayZ isn't the CAUSE of the hacking. You need to understand this part. ITS NOT DAYZ'S FAULT THERE ARE SKIDDIES EVERYWHERE. Its multiple things. Mainly : - Arma 2 is a trusting engine. - DayZ is super popular at the moment. - Battleye is easy to hook into. There is a quote from Rocket here : http://dayzmod.com/f...ty/#entry434623 User Max Planck linked in a thread recently. It sums up why you don't hear anything from any of the people involved Anti-Cheat - With good reason too. Well, what now? It will be fixed. I think i've written that sentence over 100 times on this forum the past two weeks. Battleye nor BI or the DayZ team announce what they are doing in terms to anti-cheat. It will just come out of the blue one day and MANY people will get banned. Patience, a virtue much lost in this generation. IT WILL BE FIXED. Battleye is a company contracted to work on the anti-cheat for the Arma 2 engine. Its a job. They will get it done, because thats what they are payed for. Its a complex job looking for hooks in your own .DLL, because there are so many places they could be injected. TL;DR : Shit happens then you die. Hackers are always a problem in games. There are ALWAYS people out to crack open games and look inside. Its just unfortunate that the Engine this incredibly popular game is running on happens to trust EVERY SINGLE PERSON. Of course people are going to abuse that trust. People are dicks. You should know that just by running around in Cherno. Edit : I'd appreciate after reading some sort of comment, to keep the topic up on the front page. It would be amazing if it got stickied, but not much chance of that. To the DayZ crew, I apologise if I overstep my bounds with any of this information, I attempted to keep it as clean as possible in regards to hacking. Also i'd just like to mention that a good chunk of my understanding came directly from Suspenselol. Props to him.

How do I keep a chopper?

It might not always be hackers, you know to go to Skalisty island and server hop and so do many other players. While you are sitting there fixing up the Chopper people doing the exact same thing could be server hopping to your position. If you want to save it you could always find another main rotary assembly and break the one on the helicopter when you park it so anyone who finds it will have to go searching for a part before take off, but then you run the risk of the person just destroying the heli so you can not have it either. You could land it on a roof of a building in a small low traffic Northern town, like Petro or Gvozdno, but once again players unable to get to it might just destroy the helicopter for the fun of it. Whatever you do try not to park it in the Northern part of the map since that is where most of us check for vehicles being hidden.

Hackers - What you need to know.

"That is why Battleye is here. It picks up on any "illegal" scripts being executed, the ones that don't match what is meant to be run according to the server. There is basically a whitelist of scripts that are allowed to run, and anything else results in a kick, or even a global ban." afaik: wrong?? BattlEye is NOT designed to check scripts. BattlEye is supposed to care about: - aimbots - wallhacks - maphacks - server/client communication - speedhacks/teleporting via memory-changes by third parties - general integrity of the game files and its RAM It CAN check the scripts for certain substrings and pseudo - regular expressions, but not a whitelist, and that is NOT what BattlEye is designed for. "Battleye is quite efficient at DETECTING scripts that aren't aloud to be run." it defenitely is NOT, as you can always use the scripts the regular game is sending on picking up an item etc. But, as i allrdy said, BattlEye was not, is not, and WILL not be designed to. "The problem at the moment though, isn't Battleye failing (Well, kinda) It's the fact you can use a "hook" to inject into the Client-side Battleye process and typing a few lines of code that effectively make all the scripts you execute invisible to the server log, which means you can't get kicked, banned, etc. Once they find the memory space getting "hooked" onto, they release an update and a mass ban rolls out." 1.) BattlEye has no Process. 2.) You can't make scripts invisible to the server log 3.) they dont find the memory space, they try to detect the hooking. 4.) there is no mass ban, because any half-decent child knows that it should NOT use an outdated hack which is unchecked on the hive-servers. "ESP (in some of the released hacks) Teleportation. (Tampering with files)" not only players on the map. players, tents vehicles, even decoration-gadgets like soldier-corpses and rabbits/boars/cows/goats. furthermore: turn off rain, disable night, and so on... local client changes "And no, they won't change their entire engine to stop scripts from being executed." if they do not do that in the standallone, dayz will be ripped to pieces. and i will gladly help, you can not release a GAME with a trusted client. "But DayZ isn't the CAUSE of the hacking [..] Its multiple things." the only reason is that they thought the arma2 engine could work in a game like DayZ. propably the cheapest, and worst choice. "It will be fixed. It will just come out of the blue one day and MANY people will get banned." impossible by definition. obfucscation is no proof of security, new hacks will ALWAYS be released as long as arma2's engine does not get fixxed. and why on earth should many people get banned? lock the dll's file so that it cant patch (or by other means, there are plenty) and you know when to turn off your hack... your so naivly that it hurts -.- you cna even set up your firewall to supress battlEye patches, so... maybe some idiots who cant play without their hacks will be, but... "Its a complex job looking for hooks in your own .DLL, because there are so many places they could be injected." BattlEye is loading upon joing a server. most hacks are injected in the menue (dayz naivator (most popular maphack) btw is only undetected if you start it before joining a server), and battlEye failes to notice. there are indeed many ways of possibilities. but BattlEye is neither working with 2 processes watching each other (like punkbuster) nor using global hooks, so it will ALWAYS be easy to bypass it atm. battleye is not hooking readprocessmemory! they will NEVER detect a half-superior hack! and by the way, it does not matter WHERE it is injected, but HOW. "Edit : I'd appreciate after reading some sort of comment, to keep the topic up on the front page. It would be amazing if it got stickied, but not much chance of that." if you fix your many mistakes, i would appreciate it as well. the community is not really taken seriously in this point! just have a look here: BattlEye has got no problems if you attach a debugger to it's dll, and join a server with BE enabled than :) want to know how battlEye checks the clients version? a little hint: no hashing is involed :P

    Need a vehicle

I can offer you a boat, if my server comes back. Anyone know the deal with vehicles though? There are basically none out there, it's crazy.

How do I keep a chopper?

Vehicles outside of the map will be reset to their spawn points. This prevens hoarding of vehicles and off map camps.

    Beta 97451

Damn. Well, I don't know how'd I get in contact with the owner. Had some vehicles on there too. :( Thanks for the explanation guys.
  25. You can A. switch the location/coords with both vehicles, or B. change the class name to the desired vehicle. Please use this link, I'm not the class name fairy. http://www.armatechs...5165f/index.php
