Remove 3rd person or make it worse

Recommended Posts

Regardless of whats posted here it still needs to be removed completley considering the kind of game this is but im sure that will happen in the standalone, mmmkay..

The thing is, so many people are used to 3rd person by now that removing it is not an option.

How is it " not an option " the game is very harsh by nature.. taking out something that gives an overwhelming advantage would fit super well in my oppinion.. but anyway like I said before the standalone is what really matters and i hope, hope, hope 3rd person isnt in it.

Its always an option, but personally I like it better, but only because it brings cinematic feel to the game.

They could blurout scenery that you cant see with your "eyes"... (exsample if you are behind the wall you couldnt look over it with 3thperson view, well you could but coudnt make much out of it.)

hi,

I opened a topic about this there's a while ago: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/60980-want-to-be-better-at-pvp/

Most people are complaining about first person view since their field of view (FOV) is too low.

If your FOV is too low it means that your game is not configured properly.

There's no ingame option to change it but you can do it manually.

Here is how to do it:

Changing your FOV will increase your game performances, give you more peripheral vision, helps in CQC. Moreover you will feel more confortable with the first person view.

If you want to change FOV in ArmA2:

- Browse to C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\My documents\ArmA 2

- Open YourName.ARMA2OAPROFILE file

- Make a backup

- Scroll down to fovTop and fovLeft

- Multiply both values the same (i.e: values 0.75 and 1.20 become 0.975 and 1.56 when multiplied by 1.3).

- Save the file

- Test and repeat the operation until you feel comfortable with the new FOV.

- Enjoy.

Be sure to find the best compromise between peripheral and center vision

I use the following settings with my 22'' monitor:

fovTop=0.98;

fovLeft=1.57;

I hope this will decide people to play in first person view.

See you on hardcore servers.

cya.

Nikiller.

There's a proper guide to FoV in ArmA on the forums somewhere. I'd recommend using that to fully understand how it works because it uses vertical FoV and radians and won't work if you calculate it incorrectly. The values depend on your in game resolution and aspect ratio, so it's quite complicated, lol.

I've changed mine to an 80 degree view angle and that's working much better for me. I use 80-90 in most FPS games. I used to have toggle zoom out bound to middle mouse and was playing zoomed out for the most part and toggling it off for firing, obviously didn't work for scoped weapons though.

First person with free-look is all you need. As long as we don't swivel our heads 180 degrees and die. That way we can continue to run without slowing down.

I think it pretty pathetic that 'pro-gamers' like Sacriel and Frankie use 3rd person. They, I'm sure would argue that it's a cheat that works both ways, so it's fair play all round.

I disagree; it's the unfair use of close cover against far targets. For example: you're behind a wall, and somehow you can see over it giving you the huge advantage against your opponents. 15 foot tall shoulder mounted surveillance cameras anyone? Maybe we should carry around our own walls.

It's a pretty lame game mechanic that does not fit in with DayZ, who's ultimate goal is to be a realish-life survival simulator set in extraordindary circumstances. Think of the many games released in first person and nobody complained that there was no third person view? Battlefield 3/ COD for instance?? You can think of tonnes more I am sure.

Rocket has stated that he wouldn't take 3rd person away from the standalone. That's a purely commercial decision as once a feature is given, then taking it away would cause an uproar.

Bro, are you stupid? People who play cod/bf3 don't complain that there's no third person because the game is meant to be in first person. Take wow for instance, nobody complained that there's no first person. Its because the game is meant to be that way -.-

really, Bohemia needs to take a more dictative approach with their end user, having both options is a little passive (from the company that creates military i.e. 1st person) simulations. An option would be to only allow 3rd person while running, this would eliminate peeking and close engagements would mimmick reality. Perhaps with the addition of secondary 'peeking' functions (e.g. climbing wall & peeking) which mimmick the reality of reaction times and exposure. Do Nintendo allow you the end user to disable music? no, they take a dictative approach, and the end user respects that. But then how will you keep the WoW kiddies playing?

2) As mentioned before my post, there are plenty of servers without third person

that's endemically untrue.

Just going to throw my beans in here.

In real life, you basically have a 180 degree field of view, while your brain connects the gap inbetween your eyes.

In DayZ/Arma, you only have about 70 degree FOV.

In third person, in DayZ you get the same 180 degree feeling, atleast for me.

I once went into a server with 3pv off, After 2 hours in it i found it to be more immersive and better suited from a more real view point. my nerves went through the roof, I was constantly on edge to the point of needing a few breaks during gameplay. (test you limitations I say!)

If i want a good session on DayZ I will go towards a 1st person view as you just can't beat the immersion. I have also changed my view field, this is vital and would suit some of you who play(ed) fps games.

I do more often than not play with 3PV on as I do prefer it, looking around while running is simply great, I would have missed a lot of stuff had it not been in the Mod. I do think it is down to player choice. Each to his own.

I am however against anything which takes anything away from the initial Mod. 3PV needs to stay, You take it away and you will attract less players.

It would be stupid to remove the option from the servers

For some of us that suffer from motion sickness , 3rd person is the only way i can play the game.

1st person makes me incredibly ill within a short space of time as the input from my eyes differs from the liquid in my ears as I'm sat still but my brain thinks I'm looking to the side etc.

So for me 3DP ON is a must

At the end of the day if you don't like it play on the servers that dont use it...

You know the headbob is an option to adjust in settings?

I use both.

If first person was less clunky, I may agree with the op.

You see in first person, unlike in RL, you dont have any of your natual senses so you are almost blind.

I like to run in 3P and kill in FP.

And by doing so I feel I have more of an affinity with my surrounding.....OMG I am talkin such bollo(x) lol

I see yer point OP, but yer wrong, removing £P would be bad man...baaaad Juju  :o

I love 1st person view. I do think 3rd person view is an unfair avantage and make the experience of play worst... and I'm seeing people with the same opinion, and that's my suggestion:

Don't ever play servers with 3rd person view. I'm pretty sure 1st person view lovers are enough to fill servers all over the world, but we want to play in populate servers so we jump constantly from server to server.

Choose a server with 3dp:off and stay there and wait. I'm from Spain and there is no spanish 3dp:off servers (sad as hell), so I went from one server to another (fr, po, uk, ru,...) until I find the right one, the sweetest, my home... in an UK server. Sometimes we are 5, sometimes we are 40, but the fear of being killed is warranted. The admins kick and ban for hacked weapons and I've never seen a cheater (well, 3rd pv is meant to take unfair advantage, isn't it? xD).

We may not be legion, but we are a squad. Unite!!.

I play on a 3dp off server and it's frequently full. Anyhoo, how is this debate still going on? Surely just leave the choice open, case closed.

the player base has spoken and they like third person.

Yeah but who care about what the community thinks, this is not a democracy, the dayZ team isn't gonna do something just because players want it.

The developers. When the developers know they're gonna lose most of their players, they care. Also, it's an option. If you don't like 3DP:ON, go play on a server with 3DP:OFF. I'm for having options. I think religion is stupid, but I happen to like that people who want it have the option (to be stupid). It's called freedom, I think.

I've seen it in another game before but the third person wouldn't render anything that the character couldn't actually see. This could balance out the 3D view but I have no idea if that could be implemented on the engine. Sometimes when I look around in the 3D things wont load or render but that just might be some lag.

If they lose "most" of their players because they remove 3rd person than good riddance. Less h4x.

Oh, I forgot to mention. H4x prefer first person.

The point being, half of a community will not migrate to other games because you take out third person. I like third person, but it is not a deal breaker.

Still, when it's an option, why make it a non-option? So the 1st person purists (1pp) can feel better about themselves? (Even though 3rd person gives a better approximation of real life field of view...)
