I made this suggestion thread the other day to remove the Krutory Cap spawn, because I feel it just adds an unnecessary amount of travel time to a game where you already spend a majority of your time running. Then I get flamed and labeled as a "deathmatcher" by a mob of smug survivalists, because in their eyes I'm not playing the game correctly if I like PvP (I guess they just like to spend hours running around to collect beans and bandages :|). Why do you play? IMO if you feel so strongly about "surviving" that you want to insult someone who enjoys being a bandit, you should get off the computer and go backpacking for a week on the Appalachian trail instead of playing a run simulator in your office chair.

I prefer a very tactical approach to combat, and the combat just feels much more meaningful because you are punished very heavily for dying, instead of coming back in 5 seconds later with the exact same inventory.

If you're playing just to kill people then why are you playing DayZ? There are countless games out there that should appeal more to people like you. It seems to me like it's just because it's easier to do well when not everyone will shoot at you even if they see you...

There's nothing wrong with PvP, it is part of the game. I just miss the times when people would only kill you to get geared up, not just for +1 murder because they think it makes them more badass.

I just murder people because I like wearing a stylish turban is that so wrong?

I play on a Private hive and 90% of the players on there are forums users of a forum I frequent and we've all formed teams and practically no one travels alone on that server, there's at least 2 people together all of the time. We're always having huge firefights and it's great, It is what I play DayZ for.

In saying that, I despise the deathmatch that happens in Cherno and Elektro and find that childish

What I said in the other topic

Also I f you want to play tactical PvP play arma 2. Every one has a gun, you can play as a team, and no zed obsticles.

But if I played the game because it is tactical, I would be playing BF3 or Rainbow 6 instead. Arma 2 isn't really a game, it is a hardcore simulator. I like playing smart, but most of the Arma 2 people take it too seriously for me to consider it fun. I like to play as a well coordinated team, but without taking orders...it is a game after all. Following the chain of command when probably half of the players never served in the military just seems like BS to me.

What makes this game different from my other favorite shooters is that you must first collect your gear, and then the combat can get pretty scary. Of course I'm not actually going to die, but when you hear the rounds cracking overhead you know that there is a chance you might lose everything you've been collecting for many many hours of play, it is pretty damn intense. When you die in BF3 you just spawn on a squad mate 10 seconds later with all your gear, so there is hardly a consequence for dying.

I play to survive, but I do have a few badnit encounters, and believe me my heart start's racing xD battles can be long and nerve-wrecking or short and adrenaline-filled. That's what special about DayZ. It's the weight of death this game puts on you... still not as much as hardcore more on D3 though.... that shit made me cry a few times (Not really, but really frustrating)

I think of this game as a survival / scavenger hunt.

I derive pleasure from gathering things and finding rare items, killing zombies, and "wabbit hunting"

It's quite fun to be a "fly on the wall" too - I've watched a few survivors moving about, doing their scavenging and running from zombies etc...

I don't need to ruin other people's day in order to be happy. Maybe I've got "too much empathy", but I know how It feels to get shot for no apparent reason, and the only times I've shot people have been in self defense.

In at least 2 cases, gunfire was exchanged probably as a misunderstanding due to my slow reaction time, and the fact that in DayZ your character points the weapon threateningly by default, andI'm too slow with my seldom used direct chat button.

If I want to shoot people, I'll play BF3. Killing and dying is the point, and no tears need be shed on either side.

If I want terror and excitement and fear of death, I'll take passenger and let my wife drive us somewhere the highway. (that's "dual carriageway" or "Autobahn" for you folks across the pond).

Didn't take poll, because you don't give the option on 1 of pvp and survival. They aren't one or the other to many of us. I like trying to survive with the added risk of player killers. 2 not enough options for the hero or survivors. As a Hero I play to help the weak and kill the predators. 3 well all the above and more. :P

You can't be totally one thing mate, you have to draw from both worlds as Pendragon said, there are situations where you will inevitably find yourself into a gunfight.

Or you see someone trying to take that chopper you've been gathering parts for and you can't just let him take it, you have to take the shot, this pool needs more options

Hunting people down in DayZ is a lot different then getting a few kills in other shooters.. I mostly play for PvP reasons and it's a totally different experience.

"Very tactical (I don't want to lose my nice gear!)"

So basically if someone is playing very tactically it's because they only don't want to lose their nice gear?

I'm sick of this fucking pathetic BF3, MW3 and DayZ comparison. Oh blah blah blah there may be a large amount of players who KoS, but that doesn't make the game 'cod' like. Jesus christ it's not that hard to realise that there is so much more difference between the three games.

And why are there only two reasons to why one plays DayZ--PvP and surviving? Is that seriously the only two options for why one plays this mod?

But I do like " IMO if you feel so strongly about "surviving" that you want to insult someone who enjoys being a bandit, you should get off the computer and go backpacking for a week on the ". I totally agree with this.

I also could not take this poll in good conscience since I truly enjoy and understand both playstyles. Sometimes I am not in the mood for banditry or for that matter being friendly to other survivors, these are my feral lone wolf nights where I just kill zombies and gather gear. Other nights I am in the mood for being a shameless bandit on one of the many non Chernarus maps, not saying I disagree with banditry on Chernarus I just tend to play friendly on that map and have a towel on all others. Then there are the nights where I want to team up and meet random players, can be fun but is also very frustrating at times, just luck of the draw. As long as you are not hacking or duping I actually do not care how you play, well maybe with the exception of people who purposefully hunt new spawns (spawn campers and those who look to shoot the unarmed not those who just do it because it was convenient).

I don't always shoot on sight, it really depends on the situation. Last night when there was only 6 people online someone else in Cherno asked for a blood transfusion, so I met up with him and gave it to him. However if he entered the city unannounced and was carrying a threatening weapon, I wouldn't hesitate shooting him. If I saw an unarmed person running along the coast I would let him go...but if I walked past an unarmed person as he approached possible weapon spawn points, I would shoot him dead. It's better to shoot a nice guy who at the time seemed like a threat...rather than getting killed because I hesitated to shoot someone or was betrayed by a false friendly.

If you only kill others in self defense, I consider that the same as being a survivalist. Being an avid fan of PvP, I like to go looking for trouble. :D

I agree, which is why I play all 3. All are very different games, it is like comparing chicken to fish to steak.

About the "tactical" thing, staying alive is the main reason I see for being strategic. If hypothetically we came across a group of bandits all carrying either Makarovs or double barrel shotguns, we would easily win that engagement without a plan.

I like being killed new opportunity to survive and start from scratch. I rarely run around in top gear usually just med supplies to help others. If you see me and say I got his number kill me I will gladly respawn on the beach stroll my happy ass around and get all my shit back the same way I did before. No reason to label a portion of the game that a lot of kind bandit gentlemen enjoy. Having diversity provides smiles and heartbreak.

Yeah, I wonder why the fuck do I have to collect bandages and beans? I wish I could just PvP all the time without wo- Wait? What's that? ArmA 2? Wow, I didn't even notice I bought the stupid fucking piece of shit for this "game". I could try that.

Totally not childish.

Just ignore the haters. There are plenty of skilled survivors out there. Its only the bads that complain about it. Better they learn to survive now. Being a bandit is a legit part of the game and there is a skin for it for a reason. If anything I think they need to extend the coastal spawn areas right up to and including Berezino. I play as a bandit and when Ive been scouring the map for hours it starts to become obvious where everyone is, they are loot cycling in Cherno and Elektro, so I go kill them there. Survivors need to take a look at the map sometimes and realise there are more than two places on the map. Without the PvP in this game it is rediculously easy and boring. New players might get excited about a PVE DayZ, but the fun with quickly wair off. Everyone wants to PvP otherwise you would be seeing all the 0 population servers have 1-4 people in them playing PvE.

I'm not complaining about PvP, I'm more likely complaining about this guy wanting to kill everyone and removing the Krutoy Cap spawn. Fucking ridiculous.

If bandits disappeared from Dayz it would become boring however, the KOS mentality is BS. A bandit ROBS people. If you are only killing other players then u are a murderer and to differentiate between the two murders should have the face of Ted Bundy. Bandits should get on voice and tell people to stop or they're dead and go from there..

How many zombies are there to kill on the Apalachian Trail? It's a zombie apocalypse survival game, not a backpacking simulator.

What if you have to use bandit tactics in order to survive, a few occasions i have refused to take a risk and dropped an armed player who was in my path... Im just trying to survive but does that in turn make me a bandit?

I generally kill everyone I see. However, in some cases I see people in a position I don't really want to be in when looting their body. So in this case I will watch and wait. But if they are just hanging around in that location then I will just kill them. Dead players/fresh spawns pose no threat.
