Rocket wants standalone alpha in November or December

DayZ mastermind Dean “Rocket” Hall already pledged his intention of releasing the standalone version of his hit open-world zombie-em-up “before the end of the year,” but in an interview with VG247, he revealed that his timeframe includes a potential November launch for the alpha.

“I think the most important thing is we deal with hacking, bugs, duping, new content, tidying up some of the features and expanding them a bit,” he said. “I think if we can get that base — by the end of November or December — then that means January and February will be really happy, fun times.”

Hall also felt hampered by DayZ’s slowed development time, calling it a “challenge” and a detractor of “how ambitious we can be with the actual content,” but he promised the release date stays unaffected. As for future updates, Hall preferred a three-tiered build rollout, starting with internal testing before inviting the public for QA and finalizing a stable patch.

“Code-wise, the updates will be quite well planned — like Minecraft updates ended up being with update Fridays and all that,” he said. “I think content will come out as it’s done.”

Very slim, they will pick some players who started in april/june.... lol read some news. You will be able to buy(discounted) the game in alpha and get alpha access with it along with the retail at release.(minecraft style if you know it)

Would be nice to see some screens, what with November only a stone's throw away. Maybe it'll be visually identical, seeing as it's just a modifying Arma 2 engine?

Then again, I couldn't care less about graphics. I just wanna see new things!

I hope he doesn't rush it. I'd rather wait longer if it means that the game will be a lot more polished, releasing a game too late is always better than too early. I hope he doesn't let any of this affect his judgement and releases it how it should be. Anyway, love dayz can't wait for the SL :)

I guess i should restate... chances of testing WITH the standalone. Cannot connect to the Arma2 Mod because of CD key issues. I've been trying to connect with Playwithsix, DayZ Commander tells me my path is incorrect or something, but Playwithsix connects to game, and allows me to browse servers. I was able to connect to a single russian server, but it was lagging so bad it was like i was taking 3 steps forward then 5 back.

It doesn't matter if he rushes it or not, you are alpha testing... If you want something that is not "rushed" you better wait until january or february, when it has passed the alpha test thingy.
