Out of boredom/curiosity I've been keeping an eye on some of the more well known hack/script sites that advertise hacks for dayz and noticed this past week many, many threads about global bans so it looks like BE is making a good effort.

Unfortunately a few of the hacks are back operating again and I expect the rest won't be far behind so it was a short lived victory but a step in the right direction at least.

I have to say my major issue with the game right now is combat loggers and people that jump from a server while in combat to move behind you on another server and then log back in, or ghosting.

I think they need to make it if you fire your gun or take fire and then you alt f4, it should just kill you on the spot and spill your guts all over the floor, better yet the server should drop a bomb on their face.

Hoping standalone map (Chernarus +) has a big fuckin volcano on it so all the ghosters and alt+f4 pussies can respawn there and burn. And I can sit and watch.

It is not nearly as bad as it used to be though, I have been practicing sniping lately with a SVD camo and when I tried to use this gun last time I could never score a kill because once I got a hit the person would combat log. Now they at least have the decency to run to cover first if they even end up logging and a slim majority seem to take their death like a man (but every single one has quit after which sinks the body, that is a BS feature). Everyone agrees that something needs to be done to stop this abuse and I think the best option is a time out period, there should be a fix at some point since it is a huge pain. If I am on my regular server I will flat out report the person to the server admin and many private hive servers will issue penalties to those who combat log (hard to prove, who the hell is always running fraps).

As far as hackers it has been much better but I am sure some of the map hacks are still active which is a more subtle way to cheat and almost impossible for another player to realize it is being used.

A time out period (your character just stays in game I assume) wouldn't be fair if someone was legitimately d/c by a powercut or something (it does happen occasionally)

Should just impose a feature that makes alt+f4 kill your character a split second before the program closes.

You should try a private hive. It eliminates that possibility (unless there's more then one server sharing that hive). Also, where I play combat loggers are dealt with swiftly.

Private hives solve tent item duping, server hopping and the lack of vehicles. The only thing it doesn't fix is combat logging, but at least they cant change servers and move positions.

I've convinced half my clan to stop playing on their own server and move to a private hive. The last three days have been the most fun I've ever had playing DayZ.

I started to play this in the last week again. I stopped playing for over a month because there was so much hacking. Now I haven't seen any hacking in this or last week and ban appeals are flashing on the screen nicely. But I think hacking has reduced also because kids got bored.

I remember when there was hacking all the time in Arma 2 servers about a year ago. It lasted couple weeks or month but it stopped just like this time.

Man that is a long logout timer but I have to say this will most likely be the fix for this problem (maybe not that long though). People will complain about the legitimate disconnections that happen but how likely is it that this disconnection happens when you are in the middle of combat. Considering a great deal of dayz play time is devoted to running through relatively safe areas I am not sure it would even put you at risk for zombie damage, but I would be willing to take a death over my internet connection failing than see so many people be blatant sissies about losing their loot. In reality the benefits of a logout timer far outweigh the rare problems.

Imposing a kill function on alt F4 might kill your character for the sudden loss of internet connection, plus there are different ways to quickly log out. When I logout due to blatant hacking I alt Tab and then close the game in Dayz commander or I escape abort, same end result as an alt F4 so that would solve absolutely nothing.
