Littlebird vs the UH1H

Recommended Posts

Personally, I believe the UH1H is a bit unnecessary, and not really fit for the map. The littlebird is a helicopter use world wide by civilian groups, and best of all, it has no guns. Putting guns on the helicopters... Well its a bit much. It grants *a lot* of power to those who control it because of the incredible rate of speed and the M240's on the side, anyone else who may be driving a vehicle is a huge, easy to hit, and weak target. It is overpowered in many ways, and Im normally not one to complain about something being overpowered. The little bird on the other hand gives the great mobility of the UH1H, no weapons, and fits into the surroundings better. Most importantly, the littlebird is a JOY to fly, unlike the UH1H which feels like quite a task to fly around and land. Also, it would make more sense to add multiple little birds to a server. As the change to littlebirds would, in my opinion, improve the fun in flying and fix a bit of balancing issues, multiple littlebirds could be an improvement to a sever.

TL;DR:

Fixes some balancing, more enjoyable play, multiple helicopters per server being more logical, and it fits into the surroundings better.

Opinions?

Little birds would be nice. Easier to hide and need less fuel. Good for quick get in/get out scenarios.

The lil birds should have mini guns on em... why in hell does everyone want this game balanced? Its beauty is in the fact its not balanced, its suppossed to be hard and unforgiving.

Huey's fine. You worked hard to find and repair the chopper, you get air dominance.

If you're going for sheer numbers and availability to the MI8 beats out the Little Bird by about 15,000 units. That's 15,000 helicopters. The second most prolific is ...

Can anybody guess?

If you guessed the UH1 you win.

... No. I dont want balance, but there is no need for a single vehicle that can give dominance over a map. Even as the proud owner of almost a dozen of them, I still agree to this

Its not just air dominance, it dominance over the air and the ground, particularly against other vehicles. As above.

I dont believe every one of them has two mounted m240 machine guns, however. This isnt simply a balance thing, its also because the LB is more enjoyable to fly.

Fun is subjective, little birds are relatively rare and you would be unlikely to find them in an Eastern European former soviet republic without some sort of caveat.

Two images of military helicopters. Clearly, every helicopter has is armed.

Ok, yes, fun is relative., but what I mean by that is that they are much more maneuverable, and I personally find them much more enjoyable, along with most people I know.

The single asset chosen to reflect a typical Helicopter in DayZ was an armed UH1H. I don't mind this due to engine limitations disallowing the use of passenger weapons, clearly you're of a different opinion, irrespective, every helicopter in DayZ is armed.

Given its rarity, the Little Bird is still a bad choice, despite its fun.

While it might not be as common, Id still love to see the LB in DayZ, but not everyone's opinion matches my own.

I dunno if it's just me but the UH-1H is a bloody dream to fly. Guns or not it is probably my favourite chopper to fly in Arma 2.

I'd love to see an Orca Carryall. That would be pretty awesome.

Id love to see the Merlin with the ability to lift vehicles. Nothing like stealing a car thats driving along the road and flying off with them.

Not really relevant but I always thought the description of the Bell 212 as "A little more Detroit." was a particularly good description by one of the helo pilots I've flown with. He was comparing it to the AStars we were also using but the description is still apt.

I'm not a big fan of fuel and fly helos in a post-apocalyptic game but if they are going to be in, workhorses like the UH-1H or Mi-8 seem a lot more appropriate than hotrods like Littlebirds or even Eurocopter models.

Little bird is very fragile(in arma), 3 shots from an assault rifle to the engine and it's going down. Still i would love to see it in the game as well as Mi-8,Ka-60, blackhawk.

If there were more potentially repairable air vehicles on the map, the people with the hidden Hueys (admin and co. most likely) wouldn't be so afraid to take them for a spin.

With only 1 legit chopper per server, once it's fixed up and stashed it'll hardly ever see the light of day again!

Personally I think the Mi-8 or even the Mi-24 would be a better fit for a post Soviet state.

Well seeing as 95% of the worlds helicopters are military owned.....

I doubt the percentage is that high.

An Mi-24 could level half of chernogorsk! Too powerful, unless each S-5 rocket had to be found and loaded. If they were rare loot then maybe yes, but definitely not the arma 2 version.

This of course would be the stripped down version. I am not going to ever suggest flying death machines with rockets. Ever. I'm just wanting to see something a bit more Russian and able to carry more people/stuff.

I would like to see it if helicopters were implemented where they didn't spawn with any weapons on them. You'd have to salvage what parts you could from helicopter crashes to arm them. And the best you could do would be machine guns. No rockets.

Why don't we just stop the goofing around and bring in Hind D's?

Bombs, rockets, missiles, an autocannon, and 8 pissed off guys with russian weapons in the back.
