Rocket should add a silenced shoe...

Recommended Posts

Whilst it is unrealistic for the footsteps to be so loud. I would wager they are so loud on purpose. To give you a chance to hear others around you.

Sometimes "realism" has to take second seat, as a game/mod must be playable and balanced.

If your running in boots on pavement, it can be pretty loud depending on your sole type. I see your point tho, they are loud

Yeah, a squad getting chased through Cherno sounds like a horse race.

But you must remember if silent footwear was added to the mod, it would be abused (script spawned all over) like NVGs quickly defeating the advantage.

For standalone I can see it working well. probably a less warm, less durable shoe, but stealthy and lighter (if weight is part of inventory).

Reducing the current shoe sound level would be better than introducing new shoes, which would be abused anyway. If you absolutely have to maybe have the silenced shoes on certain Zeds which can be looted after killing them.

Kill a zombie, take his shoes. Awesome. I agree that the footstep sound is sometimes extreme, but since we're hurt by the imperfect audio provided by even the best speakers, some cheats are good in that regard. I just hate the sound it makes when I clomp through an apartment building.

Notice how loud footsteps and other noises are when you are in an empty house/building/street ? You can hear a mouse fart.. so it makes sense in that way. You should not be silent when gallvanting around an abandoned built up area.

Well, what makes this extremely annoying is, when you think you have already "sneaked past" (This doesn't exist in the game at the moment unless you crawl all the time) a zombie, he aggroes, because of the hearing.

Read topic title, was disappointed in the lack of shoes being suggested as a silent weapon.

As they are now the footstep sounds are not balanced. If you walk or run in-game you can't really hear anything that is quieter than a gunshot. Not the way it works in real life.

It is really annoying to play a game that suffers from the 'Thief syndrome'. Anyone who has played the first 2 thief games should know what I'm talking about.

Basically footstep sounds are so loud it seems that the player character is intentionally stomping the ground at every step, while wearing a suit of heavy armor.

Very annoying. :'(

Footstep noise should be reduced in my opinion.

I believe walking (as opposed to running/jogging) makes no noise at all. You hear it, but the ennemies won't.

It indeeds need some tweaking, but in SA there'll be several shoes models, even the possibility to walk barefoot., so let's hope it'll be adressed then.

I must be living in a parallel universe. Maybe because I live in a rural village and physics don't rules here.

I can hear my neighbor's foodsteps through an opened window when the road is 15metres away. When I take my dogs for a walk through the forest, I cannot hear my dogs running at 20m (they are pretty heavy) while I'm walking over the grass. If I stop, I can hear them walking over the grass at 50m.

I want you to ask yourselves "is it realistic" before asking for "realistic improvements". Because I cannot really spot people at 400m while I'm jogging due to the "unrealistic" real life's headbob. I cannot phrone in the grass in less that 1 second as I saw in the standalone footage videos (a very tiny stone can hurt you seriously).

I know is hard to hear foodsteps in a real life's city, which is very noisy. The problem is the lack of enviroment sounds in Arma 2. Try the JSRS sound mod and you will realize how foodsteps get covered with wind, wildlife and other enviromental sounds. (JSRS mod doesn't work in DayZ. Just play vanilla or search JSRS in youtube).

we're talking about pavement here, in grass all footsteps, even without shoes are loud, because what makes the noise is the movement of your feet through the leaves.

On pavement, what makes noise is the impact of the shoe on the ground, and seriously, the sound of your clothes moving are supposed to be more noisy than your footsteps, unless you use a freaking 2kg military boot.

Regardless of quieter shoes or not, how about just taking your shoes off altogether? You would make less noise since you're not necessarily walking on a hard sole of a combat boot, but you would be more susceptible to perhaps scraping your feet, leading to getting an infection? Or maybe whilst roaming the forests or falling a ways down barefooted, you could break a toe, causing you to limp as well? But you'd be a stealthy cripple!

Maybe shoes with a detachable suppressor?

I think there are going to be different types of shoes in the SA, so I could see this happening.

I imagine for the SA different footwear could have different effects on the sound you give.

Sneakers should be a lot quieter than army boots for example and ballet shoes should be pretty much silent.

it'd be cool if different footwear could give you different degrees of traction on varying surfaces.

I went for a sixer the last day, when it was frosty out.

It's likely Chernarus would get cold snaps too. Where running on the road will end up with you falling flat on your ass.

Unless you've got appropriate grippage, of course.

This idea would be great to implement on the different kinds of shoes there are in the game, say starting shoes are loud and work your way to find ones that are better quality and more silence. Something like backpacks, you start with a simple one and start finding bigger ones.

This would be great so shoes are not just a decoration thing.. now be careful with those people who would double cross you for your shoes

Edit: Someone posted the idea sorry, will still leave the post.
