d1rty 4 Posted September 26, 2012 I've been playing DayZ for about 2 months now and I've gotten quite accustom to it's nuances and tricks, but this is just baffling me. For the first month and a half I found 1 helicopter crash site. Now, in the past 2 weeks, every single time I play I end up finding at least one heli crash site. Yesterday, we found 2 crash sites within 200 meters of each other and the same thing happened twice last week. I've been playing on multiple different servers and having the same thing happen. I'm not complaining, my inventory really appreciates it. I'm just wondering if others are having the same luck? I swear I've found 10 DMR's in the process as well lol.
joeoblong@yahoo.com 614 Posted September 26, 2012 (edited) Yeah it seems more folks restarting servers every 3 to 4 hours enable more crash sites. More sites more of a chance to find them. I been trying to talk our sever admin to switch to every 12 hours. He keeps telling me it's about latency but i am skeptical. I seem to find them everytime i head into Stary or NWAF. steve t 32 Posted September 26, 2012 I switched to a private hive, around the beginning of September, but have had similar fortune regarding crash sites. Sometimes I tend to find them...other times not. I think there is a set number....either 4 or 6 crash site spawns upon server restarts. One morning I even found one....almost inside the town of Staroye. I seem to find them everytime i head into Stary or NWAF.I typically find them in the area surround Stary/NWAF or by Gorka/Berezino. Actually, my friend always seems to spot them, which is odd because I have NV and he doesn't and we typically play in night servers. If there are that many, it makes more sense why I'm running into them so much. I've been travelling NW to NE and down to the South almost every time I login. LukeSkywalkers 31 Posted September 26, 2012 (edited) Nope. In all my months of palying DayZ I only found 2 crash sites so far and they didn't even spawn loot, just zombies.... even after waiting for 10 minutes... smore98 225 Posted September 26, 2012 Well, Heli crash sights do seem to be a common occurance nowadays, mostly from frequent server resets.I don't really feel gratified in finding one anymore, because whenever I find one, I know all I am going to find an FN FAL......Fucking FN FAL... steve t 32 Posted September 26, 2012 One tends to get more excited about finding FN Fal ammo.

Fn fal is great weapon, 8k dmg, great sights etc. Edited September 26, 2012 by csharp
Derpy_Hooves (DayZ) 4521 Posted September 26, 2012 Yup find them on quite a regular basis, sometimes might find one and only one, sometimes there is 3 scattered in the fields around Grishino and Polana

In the last 2 weeks I have found 2 AS50's, 2 M249's, an M14 AIM, an L85A2 AWS and a slew of M4's and M16'sOne tends to get more excited about finding FN Fal ammo.HAHAHAHA, this is the exact reason I never pick up FN FAL's anymore. puppetworx 474 Posted September 26, 2012 They've always been there, you just didn't know where to look.P.S. - I killed 2 bandits popping AK rounds at me today in Elektro with my FAL. Feels good man.
timmy aka silence 0 Posted September 26, 2012 ive been playing about a week - ive found 5-6 sites - mk48, m249, as50, bison, fal, m14 - still no luck with the l8 yet
Nasakenai 34 Posted September 26, 2012 I found one a couple days ago outside berezino with 2 FN FAL's and 2 M14's. Already had 3 Fals at the tents with no ammo so I took the ammo for those (5 mags) and both m14's (use easy to find DMR mags). The FAL is really a great weapon as long as you save it for hostile player encounters only - and the ammo will last if you ONLY use it for that. Killing Z's with it is counter productive because you're likely to attract more Z's than you have ammo to kill after your first shot or two.

That gun's louder then a cockney hooker.
jackwhitter 22 Posted September 26, 2012 we had a helicopter we flew around during the vehicle fiasco when they weren't saving (only had it fixed until next server restart). however, we flew around and found 4 downed helicopters, but i'm not sure if that was all of them. i can usually find 2 or 3 on foot/vehicle. i've seen them spawn nearly everywhere. anywhere a field is large enough, i've seen them spawn. there seems to be a higher chance that at least 1 spawns around stary/novy.i've seen a few as far north as the NE airfield (and even a little north of that). i've never seen one spawn north of podobo dam though.i've also come across the close helicopter spawn on multiple occasions. That route works well for me.Most Northerly one I found was SE of Gvozdno. Scared the shit out of me too because I logged in about 30m away. smore98 225 Posted September 26, 2012 What I sometimes question is how such equipment would survive the crash unscathed. I would expect some damage to any equipment if the friggin Heli Exploded on impact.

It's not coming back.Well I don't think anyone looted a heli carsh site when I'm on a server with only 4 other guys and have been watching the crash site for 3 minutes before searching for loot to make sure no one else is there and the loot spawns (but it didn't >:C ). venthos 605 Posted September 26, 2012 There are ALWAYS going to be 5 helicopter crashes up on a server at any given time. That's just how the DayZ server is setup to run. You will always find 5 crashes. It's just likely that you've gotten more accustom to the game and are staying more in the middle of the map which means you're exposing yourself to more potential heli crash locations.I whipped this up just for you guys in this thread. This was made by reading the exact coords and script logic out of the mission file and dayz_server.pbo

Kill z's with that and pull out a battle rifle when you need to deal with the banditos.
Physsion 6 Posted September 26, 2012 Lucky fellas.I've found 3 crash sites on the main hive in my months of DayZ, two of which had no gear and the 3rd with an M1014 and tin cans. One day...

belzibhaal 21 Posted September 27, 2012 You should carry a smoke grenade and throw it as far away from the crash site as you can. The zombies swarm it and you can run in and loot.
