An Alternative Gesture to the Salute?

Recommended Posts

I feel that the salute, whilst effective at communicating someone’s (true?) intentions, is a bit bland. I would like the option to map some different gestures to the salute key.

For instance, I usually travel without a weapon in my hands. It’s saved my skin on a number of occasions, as most people won’t risk opening fire - and possibly aggro’ing local zeds - if they don’t see me as a threat.

A more appropriate submissive gesture (hands out, palms up) would be universally recognisable as a sign that you are not hostile, as it would be easier to establish that you’re not armed.

If you lower your weapon, lean forward very low and tap the salute key a couple of times that the guys only moves his right hand about 10-20 cm you have a new gesture.

Hands out, palms up? Sounds like you're getting ready to do the Macarena.

I think a waving animation or something would be better.

Waving is good. The salute or vault dance don't do very well as a friendly greeting. I mapped the surrender key, but can't remember having used it in-game. In a game where seeing someone through a rifle scope or seeing them a half-kilometer down the street is the usual way to meet them, some good, expressive emotes could go a long way. Emotes I have wished for:

Waving, both as a greeting and to get someone's attention.

Pointing at something, or indicating a direction

Beckoning

Digitus Impudicus

Feign death

Handshake

Revolver twirl

Maybe not the revolver twirl, but some expressive character animations are definitely in order.

Insufferable taunts. The kind that would get you instantly shot.
