Since becoming a bandit, my observations as a Survivor have been confirmed.

Recommended Posts

So many people, so eager to kill that they will get themselves into the absolute worst positions and situations they can to get the kill. I'm up 14 kills on one life over the past 2 days. Prior to this I only had 3 kills from hundreds of hours because I just wanted to be friendly. Now if someone comes close to me, if they don't seem remotely friendly they are going down. I don't intend on killing everyone on sight, but unless they look genuinely friendly I'm not going to risk it. In most of my interactions since taking a new approach to the game, I haven't had to try to get kills. Most people just offer themselves up on a platter trying to kill me.

On another note, this might mean that once players get better at the game they won't be so trigger happy when they aren't being fed kills from players that are intending on playing the game the way its been shown in various Youtube videos.

How do you define remotely friendly.... most people I come up against in game either say nothing and just stand around or crouch walk around so they could be considered a threat or they go on mic saying friendly... but then 50%+ of those might just shoot you anyway.

Me.... I try to observe from a distance, watch how they play and wht they do and decide if they are dangerous to me... if close up and stumble across them. I am always ready to shoot and now i never turn my back on them or remove my cross hairs until they answer or show some level of being friendly.

If they don't talk I'm shooting. Not talking and me waiting is given them the opportunity to get into a decent position. I find you can often tell in their approach. I don't like to let them get within 200m, but if they are just casually running around then Ill give them a chance to get within 100m and if they talk and sound genuinely friendly Ill let them go on their way, but I won't hang around to test out my judgement.

I try to let off warning shots as communication also. Recently a guy tried to kill me, but I killed him. He had everything you need, including an AS50, MK40mod0, range finders etc. A looted his body for some of it and went back to my tent to drop it off. When I came back to the body there was a guy there looting it. I told him he could take what he needed and leave (I had taken all the ammo and stuff I needed most anyways). But he didn't reply. I was in a superior position. I gave him a while and told him to leave. He didn't reply so I shot nearby. He ran about 100m away and crouched, I shot two more rounds and he logged.

Location is important too. If its NWAF, Stary or NEAF its pretty much a guarantee they aint going to be friendly. Ghillies and bandits usually aren't friendly either.

Isn't the range of chat smaller than 200m? With the size of the map it should probably be like 750-1000.

Also, firing a warning shot pretty much guarantees that the person will now see you as an enemy if they didnt before. They will probably think you took a shot and missed

Funny thing about survivor killers in this game is that they will often put themselves in horrible positions to kill you. I have been playing as a hero for what feels like forever now, ever since I first seen the difference in play styles.

When most bandits talk about killing people for survival and gear it's usually a huge load of crock. I have had most bandits fire at me from positions where they were cleary out maneuvered and retreat would have been a far better option for survival. I have had them chase me in and around buildings to try and kill me only for them to run right into a situation where they were at a severe disadvantage like chasing me hitting an open feel while I pick them off from behind a tree in the woods. Or run into a building with one entrance where I clearly have the drop on them. I've also killed many a sniper completely oblivious to footsteps sniping over cherno/electro.

What does this lead me to believe about these type of people? Well obviously they are not out to survive, they are out to kill, most likely because they have tons of gear duped and are playing this game, when they could be playing much more competitive fun games that would probably reward there play style a lot more.

I guess you could say a small portion are just gear hungry and see you with good loot and decide that loot is worth getting killed over. On the other hand most guys that do this usually have far superior gear to myself. Which just leads back to me asking "Why engage when I have the upper hand?". The only logical answer is because they have everything they need and are bored and or just don't care anymore, which is sad.

There are so many different ways to play than that, when I first started getting a bit bored my reaction was to try the more difficult and rewarding things like helping people or protecting them. Some people, I guess, just see 1 way to have fun and that is there end goal, the kill count.

Not exactly what I was expecting from the player base, but different strokes for different folks I guess.

"The normal intelligible outdoor range of the male human voice in still air is 180 m (590 ft 6.6 in). The silbo, the whistled language of the Spanish-speaking inhabitants of the Canary Island of La Gomera, is intelligible under ideal conditions at 8 km (5 miles). There is a recorded case, under optimal acoustic conditions, of the human voice being detectable at a distance of 17 km (10.5 miles) across still water at night."

That came straight off the Guinness Book of World Records. I think that we should be able to chat at a further distance than 80m. Considering "in real life" which everyone wants this game to be as possibly close to, you can easily yell out to 180m.

Who would yell unless they want the attention of everybody, makes no sense.

If you could alter the volume of your voice to whatever range you wanted, from a whisper to a yell that would be ok, but you could whisper in your mike and it would sound the same to someone right next to you and someone 20 feet away. Even direct chat text is has the same 'audibility' from 0m to its max range.

As far as trying to ascertain if someone is friendly or not, your better off being in the superior firing position and having them follow your rules if they wish to come any closer. Seeing as most encounters especially in town is just running into someone as you round a corner or enter a building its really just a lottery.

Being friendly is more that you do not intend to fire first in these situations which is obviously a risky way to play but firing first, saying friendly second is more so as you've probably already scared or angered the other player and they're likely to retaliate in an unfriendly manner.

I thought direct chat has a range of 100m. No wonder you're not hearing anyone say they're friendly. Lol

To be honest, all I can say is this. I can't trust a damn person, and literally the only people I ever trusted on DayZ are random brony comrades I met on there. However, if I do kill someone, I exit my computer, go to my bed, and think about what I have become...

FrankieOnPCin1080p is a good antidote for that shit. He's the one strictly "hero" based dedicated player I've found on youtube.
