Is there a trick to deer stands?

I'm confused about the importance of visiting deer stands. I've never found a weapon there, only ammo, and often the loot is just useless trinkets.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong?

I approach to trigger the zombies, then wait for a couple of minutes about 50m away to give time for the loot to spawn. Then I go loot the stand. If it's rubbish, I just leave. Recently I've been also killing the soldier zombies out of frustration, but also because I thought they might have military loot on them. But again, it's always trash.

Should I be doing any of that differently? Like maybe empty it of its rubbish, wait five to ten minutes, and try again (and again and again)?

I'm on the same page; I've NEVER found weapons, rarely found ammo, and always found CRAP!! I avoid dear stands like the plague.

I usually find ammo, wait a bit further out than 50m like 100m I usually will take the trash the first visit then wait about 15 and hit it again. FOund a few weapons a couple times.

Nope. no trick, I've found a few decent guns at deerstands, AKM's, M1014, the odd pistol, that kind of thing.

Just luck of the draw. You may be hitting stands that the good stuff has been plundered. Been playing alomost 2 months and at first i wasn't having any luck either. Since then i have found G17, PDW, M1014, AKS74 Kobra, AKM, and an M16A2-M203 at stands and a few times have found 2 weapons.

As i understand it you could remove the junk there and wait 10 minutes(?) for a fresh loot spawn. And yes the soldier zeds can have military loot.

No, just kidding. I've found AK74's, AKM's, and shotguns in the deer stands. They are decent places to loot, but they're no military barracks.

Deer stands do spawn good loot, they are big in numbers and usually not crowded. Check one if it's near you everytime you can.

I found a AKS-Kobra just yesterday.

Never pass up a deer stand. I have found great guns in them. Sniper Rifle(one of my first spawns not sure which), PDW, G17, M4, Shotguns, and my favorite MP5SD.

Definitely take the junk with you and drop it nearby. Then circle back later (after hitting another stand for instance) to check the respawn.

I always approach from the woods crouch walking. That gives the zeds time to spawn and disperse. Ive found m4s, aks of all types and lots of ammo.

Now that i use an m4 a3cco with sd ammo (i kill zeds only), I dont need to hit them up as often.

As I said, it's all about luck. I was killed by the gates of the same camp once, sent me hundreds of meters into the air and killed me on impact with the ground.

They're just like fire stations and airfields, sometimes good weapons spawn but mainly it's tin cans or ammo and bandages. Usually somebody got there before you and took the best. I got my m16a2 at a deerstand and my m4a1 cco, and an akm with 3 clips. Other times there's an empty tin can or a bandage.

Apparently if you take the empty tin cans and drop them on the grass, there will be another spawn about five minutes later, of something else. But who has time to hang around zombie-infested deer stand to find out?

I think there's a wiki page somewhere that tells you the odds of what weapons spawn and how often. Not sure where it is but someone here might know. :thumbsup:

Have you tried farming the stands at all? If I get a Kamenka spawn I go to the three just north of there and if I dont find a weapon or gear I want I take everything out of the stand and put it under a nearby tree. I then move on to the next stand, do the same thing, go to the third, rinse and repeat, and then back to the first until I have what I want.

I raided NW airfield north baracks, fire station and hangars and found nothing better than my AKM. Thought I'd just try the deer stand by the baracks as I left and found a DMR and MP5SD both with ammo! It must have taken pity on me...

I've found DMR, M24, SAW, M9SD, GPS, Coyote, assault rifles, shotguns, Glocks, grenades and trash in deer stands. I also found alot of deer stands empty and found alot of empty cans.

Here is the trick.

A deer stand is a military spawn with the chance of spawining two possible loot piles.

When you enter the game trigger, you either spawn new loot, find old loot or delete expired loot.

If the loot is expired, the deer stand will be empty and new loot wont spawn for a long time.

However if you find trash and pick up/delete all items, the next loot pile will spawn much faster.

So if you're systematically looting deer stands, you should go straight for the stand, check it for loot and then continue to the next deer stand on your planned route. Instead of sitting and waiting for respawns, move from stand to stand.

Deer stands is the low risk/low chance reward for the patient and careful survivor. If you haven't got the nerve to visit Stary Sobor or the airfields durring peak hours, deer stands are a safer alternative for lone wolves.

I was round my mates once playing Day Z on his account. We managed to find an M24, Coyote backpack and an AKM before then, including lots of ammo and stuff

So yeah, i guess it's possible to find good stuff in em once in a while

Great loot has the potential to spawn there, but it's often not great stuff. Best i've ever found in a stand is a PDW or a GPS.

I hope so.... I had one too! Carried it for a long time but was unwilling to drink it.... Sadly it was taken from my hands by the god of respawnatbeachwithnopack :(
