[admins/mods] please delete all topics concerning hacking/scripting

Recommended Posts

dear mods/admins,

please delete all topics concerning hacking / scripting.

all it does is fill up the forum with useless spam.

there are at least 5-10 thread about this on the frontpage and it makes reading

the forums annoying and boring.

we all know the problem, it has been discussed hundrets of times.

just add a sticky "we know about hacking, all threads about it will get auto-deleted" and be done with it.

thank you.

PS: i count EIGHT topics right now :/

PPS: or add a subforum for it, call it QQ or something :)

they're virtually spam.

they are spamming without realising it.

or they are spamming in the name of misguided justice.

I personally like to leave well written threads open for as long as possible because it's important that everyone can voice their opinion... We are dong our best. There's also spambots and reports do deal with There's only so much we can do between a few of us at once.

Crappy one line spam posts are a pain in the ass though and we get to them eventually.

BULLSHIT!

I want see more topics about hacking! So the devs have to work harder on this problem.

Its an indicator for them how big the hacker problem is.

I bet my ass that you are a stupid gay ass hacker or your brain is super fucked up.

I bet you're one of those people who "like" photos on facebook made by group pages.

There is a point where showing the mods and such that the hacking is a problem, and then there is the point where you're beating the already pulverised corpse of a horse into smaller bits with a stick.

Everyone knows the hacking problem, and, frankly, I'm tired of reading about the latest 'I got hacked' story.

The problem is that most of the threads that discuss hacking. either intentionally or unintentionally encourage other people to hack the game...that's why Reddit (for example) does not allow any topics relating to hacking.

Posting threads about hacking gives hackers the attention they crave, and lets other people know what can be done if you hack and sometimes how to do it or who to contact to ask for hacking to be done for them or to hack items for them. I have seen several of these kind of posts eg along the line of "PM me I can help you with that [obtaining an item or finding vehicles using hacks etc etc]"

Well, no. the problem itself is being able to hack.

I'm sure other forums would allow threads discussing hack issues if they were as rampant as DayZ's scripters are.

But which games do they not allow hack threads? if it's something like counter-strike, not the best example.

Yeah, you keep donging your best.

*Cough*

Regardless of that. I kinda agree with the OP. It's horrible spam when there's a new "HACKER IN XX####" -thread every 3-7 minutes.

Then again, Fraggle is right. It'd be a crapload of work to keep deleting it all, just for the fact of how much people keep spamming it.

I'll delete topics that have no value besides whining about hacking, and generally attempt to weed out anything that might be worthwhile or you know, helpful. Sitting and bitching about "OMG HACKURS" isn't going to do shit. It's spam. Same with 'hacker stories'

There is far more value in threads concerning hackers than a thread whining about hacker threads. If a person were to come to these forums and see the thousands upon thousands of complaints, bans and stories and decide that the dev's were incompetent and that they shouldn't waste their money with the stand-alone that would be a perfectly reasonable conclusion. Granted there's more to it than that, but it's still perfectly reasonable.

Look around the forums, read the one line questions to Rocket where he is asked where hacking ranks on his priority list, and actually try to understand the problem before freaking out. Here is a great explanation of what is being done to combat this problem, keep in mind that the same weakness of the ArmA2 game that gives us hackers is the strength that gave us Dayz.

Agreed.

The approach must be several layers:

1. Remove the ability to inject scripts in game. This is done through stopping the engine from loading pbo's after runtime, not allowing SQF script riles in after initial load, and checking signatures of all Pbo's. Compiling the SQF in the distribution is also additional security.

2. Improve the security of information between client<>server. You'll never solve that, but you can make it more challenging. This helps make packet injection more complex, therefore more easier to make mistakes. For mistake results... see #3.

3. Auditing of information. An additional cloud of servers who's job is to go through information archived in the database to identify those profiles with suspicious information. Some will clearly be hackers, and these accounts can be banned. Those that are just suspicious can be monitored, and informed of the reasons for their ban with evidence over time.

4. VAC/PB. If, for example, the game is released as a Steam distribution - then it can make use of VAC. Think of it as BattlEye on steroids. It also can cause you some issues with your steam account.

Even with all these levels, some hacking will undoubtedly occur. But like committing a crime, the chance is each time you will screw up, and when you do, you'll be caught. When 1-3 is tied with 4, the results can become even more effective. We need to increase the effectiveness to the point where the chances of you encountering a hacker are low, and where the amount of hacking is low due to the risks of getting caught. Once we reach this, and I am confident we can with standalone, then we will be in a much better position.

But, these things take time, and they take access to the source + smart people. We have all those things, but time only flows in one direction.

People turned Starcraft 2 into an MMO, it's still almost impossible to hack.

Somebody does not understand the problem, the problem is ArmA2 being insanely script friendly. This is a mod of a game, you can not break the actual game to fix a mod, so this leaves us with hackers. To address this issue a standalone is being developed that will make injecting scripts far more difficult and easier to detect, but as it stands now the engine accepts scripting because scripts are a big part of the game.

If you do not think the steps being taken to lock down standalone are acceptable I would suggest not purchasing the standalone for a couple of weeks to make sure the issues you find important are addressed. Complaining about the current state of the mod is a little like somebody in Seattle complaining about the rain, it gets old really fast when you should know why it is happening in the first place. If you can not take the current hacking epidemic, stop playing or at least migrate to private servers where it is less frequent due to vigilant admins. For the love of God stop with the rants making it sound like it is easy to fix the current mod, it is not easy and hacking will continue to be a huge problem in the mod and the only relief we will see are ban waves popping up every now and again, quickly followed by new Battleye bypass scripts and more hacking. Either accept this fact, or stop playing a mod that you know has these problems that will not be solved until standalone, it really is that easy.

I understand this completely. Your statement implied a connection between modability and weak code. That's not the case. ARMA II is moddable and has weak code. SC2 is moddable and does not have weak code.
