This is by far the greatest Rocket post ever LOL

It was also an extremely cockish thing to do, but I will abide many things... yet not made up statistics because it drives me bonkers

I stopped playing like a month ago. It wasn't because of hacking or anything, I've just become bored of it all. I've gotten all the high end gear, vehicles, etc. and I know all the spots on the map, so there's not really anything new to try out. I'll still be buying the standalone when it comes out, who knows, maybe rocket will add some more to the game that will keep me interested.

My opinion is that a large percentage will play the stand-alone, who have decided to "take a break" for now.

I for one haven't played on the Chernarus servers lately because I've been playing Lingor..

There are also Utes and Takistan maps getting played as well.

While it's true that the playerbase has dropped to half of what it was at the peak, a large chunk of those "missing players" are active in the other maps which aren't tracked with the rest.

Even without the private hives and other maps, 70,000 people is still far from "dead"

I'm pretty sure we can expect to be back up in the millions, once the finished game is released.

god dam private hives why dont people just be normal and if they want a server make sure there is a admin to actually admin it :)

Probably because people are tired of "admins" scripting in gear, re-starting the server just because, and teleporting people around.

Rocket, I'm just another voice in the crowd. But, I have to give it up. Along with large amounts of others, we appreciate your hard work. The adrenalin rush when the mod touched such a large crowd. To the stress level involved with trying to appeal to such a large and diverse player base, with a minimal amount of funds. Many of us love you and your crew. "I got to give it up."

Tuuuuuuuuneeeeeeeeeeeeee! Who needs coffee. I've come over all funky, this is the song I play in my head when I'm strutting round the shops. I've been electric sliding all over my room and I'm going to have mashed potato for dinner. Thanks for cheering me up.

Well if it's going to be that kind of thread...

but I will abide many things... yet not made up statistics because it drives me bonkers

I'm right there with you so in the name of constructive critism, you may want to have a talk with your web designer as the front page of dayzmod.com is a text-book example of how to lie with statistics.

Literally the first thing on the page is "1,254,537 players". I have no doubt there are 1.2 million unique player ID's in the database but if someone were to tell you there are 1.2 million badminton players in New York City you might reasonably expect that those are people who regularly play the sport, or perhaps self identify as players. Not that 1.2 million people played the sport for a week, in gym class, while in high school.

One other example. The number of zombies killed hasn't changed in weeks and therefore is clearly just a made up statistic.

There are no usage statistics.

Er, never mind maybe all of the numbers on the front page are just made up?

2,147,483,647 is the largest number that can be represented by a 32-bit integer, I imagine the real number is much much higher by now. It's a pretty common error and can probably be fixed simply by changing the datatype from INT to BIGINT.

Yeah, I know. I would never have noticed this if someone hadn't pointed it out in a thread a few weeks ago. Just because it's an integer overflow doesn't mean that listing it isn't making up statistics.

Maybe the datatype for players in the past 24 hours could be changed to a 16 or even 8-bit int. That would stabilize the counter on the front page and maybe people would stop complaining. :P

I have now tested out the privatehive concept over the weekend. And man, that was so much more fun. Alot less shoot on sight behavior. And a whole lot of players to actualy team up with. Yeah there is a chance of hackers there aswell. But on private hives, they actualy do somthing about it. We where 8 guys in the store in stary sabor. We all got instakilled by a minigun from a jet taking down the whole building. In public server, we would have to find a difrent server while the hacker could troll the server for hours. While on the private hive, the admin instantly baned the hacker, and roled back the server so everyone could continue from the place they where before the hacker had fu it up. Latly i havnt been playing that much dayz becouse of the hackers. Just been playing a cuple of hours until getting killed by a hacker, and then playing something else for a cuple of days. But this weekend have been all about dayz, with hours and hours of fun on the privatehive.

The problem with DayZ right now, as stated many times before, are the users.

Arma 2 is a trusting engine everyone knows that, and the amount of hacking/scripting is just gone out of hand.

Even without that, the duping is ridiculous at this point. I've seen 1 person with 1 tent create a huge tent city and dupe the same weapons almost a hundred times (unfortunatly there was some hacked weapons that were duped aswell).

A lot of people I know, are just waiting for the Standalone, for 2 reasons.

1 - No hacking (hopefully, it's impossible i know but at least it will break all the know break legs and teleport scripts to a minimum)

2 - No duping (I dunno if it's planned for the stand alone, but a tent "auto-save" feature before a server restart would pretty muchend the weapons duping)

No duping meaning more scarce resources, since when you die, no go back to the tent to your infinite weapons cache, meaning scavaging scarce resources, meaning more conservative play so you don't lose everything you own (again, no going back to get everything again) meaning less shoot on sight meaning more social experience.

and the no hacking, well, meaning no douchebags, let them leave DayZ and go play their so precious WarZ and leave us in peace to enjoy the game.

There are no usage statistics, central connection statistics. As private hives grow I would expect that we would track less and less people. The assumption is, however, that everyone who plays on a private hive will have at least once connected to the public hive... hence the unique players is a rather good indication of the number of people who have played dayz, for more than 5 minutes

Now, I can appreciate the average player might not really care about that number. But in the industry, that equates to sales. That mean's 1.3 million people have bought ArmA2 at the very least, with a number of them specifically to play DayZ. Less than six months ago the number was 6. This is a statistic that I think the whole mod team here, myself included, is pretty proud of. It's also unprecedented.

So true, myself had arma 2 before DayZ got released, though the only thing I'm playing now is DayZ. I don't know why.. But I just love it in someway ;)

I think the a few reasons of inactivity is:

1. People are waiting for the Standalone.

2. Nobody can take the hackers anymore.

3.???

4. Profit!

...sorry.
